I have successfully enabled VT on my Acer 8930G laptop using bios 1.13 in windows vista 32. All credit goes to Marcan from this link [url] and the posters who have made this possible. Tjeute post below explains how PLEASE NOTE FOLLOW DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY IF IN DOUBT PLEASE ASK
This is what I did in an Windows environment: downloaded the Bios from the Acer site. I downloaded the 1.13 bios, and ran the Insideflash utility. Don’t know what the differences are between 1.10 and 1.13, but the Windows Eperience Index gave higher rates on the CPU and the GPU parts.
After flashing I filled in a backup name (f.i. c:ackupbios.fd) in the platform.ini file and executed the Insideflash again, but did not flash the Bios this time. After exiting Indsideflash the backup file had appeared on the desired location.
Then I installed Python 2.6.2 for Windows. I copied the vtenbable.py script as well as the backup bios to the Python directory. After that I opened an elevated DOS prompt, went to the Python dir (cd c:python26) and typed “vtenable.py backupbios.fd 8930gvt-bios.fd”.
Finally I copied the 8930gvt-bios.fd to the Insideflash directory, erased the supplied bios file and renamed 8930gvt-bios.fd to KM2_113.fd. Then I executed Insideflash for the last time and flashed.
I have a vaio VGN_AR71M laptop, and recently i managed a fresh install of windows 7 X64 with all drivers including video card 8400m gt.
So i want to put my experince here so everyone can look at this method combined from DrCrank+bogart fron url: VAIO AR Series, VT and symcmos gone wrong - help!
and How to Enable Intel VT and AHCI on a Napa/Santa Rosa platform Phoenix BIOS Vaio laptop
so i have done what bogart indicate ,for this vaio type and change in default.txt the followin value Phoenix BIOS version - R2090J8 BIOS value: (0285) [0000] --------> (0285) [0001]
and after the reboot it worked the vitualization is enabeld and i have downloaded all drivers needed and everything work fine 100% ,and from these pictures it confirm the virtualization:
I have an acer 8930G with a Q9000 processor, 500gb hd etc. Running visa home premium at the moment (32 bit) and looking to change.
I have created factory restore dvds in case I need to revert anyway.
But I do not want to spend ages installing windows 7 if there are no acer drivers etc for it.
Has anyone who has this laptop installed windows 7 and is it working?
I have been given an official 64 bit version of windows 7 (some guy I know is on some training course or something) but I cant find out info about it.
Obviously I need the dash thing to work for volume control, I use the fingerprint reader a lot too, I also have a tv card with my laptop (Havent managed to find channels yet though!!). Basically I want to see if everything works? IE do the vista drivers work?

I have an acer 8930g and over the last 5 days I have tried windows vista ultimate 64 bit and windows 7 ultimate 64 bit (official copy).
Everything works fine on the factory settings (vista HP 32bit) but on both those operating systems I get problems when watching blu ray disks.
At first I thought it was the disk, then the drive but now I have narrowed it down to either the OS or the drivers.
When I watch a blu ray movie with acer arcade or power dvd, I get a constant screeching sound (sort of like its raining or an old fax machine) and I really do not know what to do.
Has anyone else come across this problem? I have spend the last few days uninstalling operating systems and installing again, doing drivers and all sorts but got nowhere.
It looks like windows 7 does now have any 5.1 drivers for this laptop so I will have to leave that for now, but I really wanted to use a 64 bit OS to make the most of my ram, has anyone got a 64 bit version working ok? If so, where did you get the drivers from or how did you get it working ok? Have you tested watching blu ray movies etc?
After a bit of head scratching and testing I have finally got my T9600 to behave.
A few comments on the system, the cooling is pretty well done and fairly easy to work with (once you have figured out how to get the fan in and out easily, this is done by tilting it up and pushing forward then down to get it in).
The heatsink managed to get a fair bit of pressure down on the CPU which is a nice change.
You MUST use a quality thermal compound (Arctic silver MX-2 worked for me in the end) using a THIN layer (since you get good pressure).
Undervolting it slightly also for good measure (down to 1.088v in my case) helps keep it cool.
Seeing as I pretty much made up my mind and want to buy a Acer Aspire 8930G, I hope somebody here can give me some specific advice. Maybe someone who owns one of the laptops (I hope there aren't any differences, depending on the country you live in)
I am looking at the Acer Aspire 8930G-644G32MN or the ACER Aspire 8930G-584G32BN. The first one is 300 Euro's cheaper than the last one. Besides that big difference I can't seem to find any. Did I miss some specific diffence, like do they both have Surround Sound and a BluRay drive and a full HD screen? Does any of the two support DVB-T? Do they both have a 9600 GT graphics card?
The reason why I ask is because I looked through, I don't know how many internetsites with specs and it's amazing how they all differ, obviously mainly copied and pasted from other internetsites. And I really want to get the right one and not regret my purchase after a while.
Since in theory you only hear from people with broken laptops and not the ones that haven't broke, I thought I would start a XPS M1330 with the Nvidia GPU success story thread.
If you have a M1330 laptop WITH the Nvidia gpu and the gpu hasn't gone out on you, please post in this thread. Let us know how long you've owned and and how often you use it!
I got a Dell Inspiron N5010 which comes with Free Dos without drivers. I have been trying for the last week to make the graphics card work without success. I have Windows  7 Pro 64 bit and I followed the Dell Support drivers page after providing my service tags. Nothing works. Windows still sees that as VGA driver with 16 Mbytes of RAM!!! Cannot have high resolution. Also, the characters and fonts looks ugly compared to my 5 year old Acer!! I also downloaded the drivers at Intel site from URL...All my attempts are in vain. I am not sure what else I can try. Windows insists that it is not compatible. On the other hand, all things work perfectly on Linux mint 11.0 but there are applications I need to run on Windows (unfortunately).
I just submitted an order for a new vaio z and while waiting for it I thought I'd look into getting a nice external monitor for home use. After reading through the forum, I can't find any report of a vaio z owner successfully attaching an external monitor with a resolution of more than 1920 x 1200 (due to no dvi-dl compatibility). Specifically, I was hoping to get a 30" 2560 x 1600 monitor.
Is it safe to conclude that it is impossible to connect a 2560 x 1600 external monitor to my new vaio z?
I've had my Acer Aspire 8930G for about 4 months now, bought it brand new for around £800.
I've never really tried playing Blu Rays on it, infact I've not even watched one all the way through, I've only tested 2 when I first bought the laptop.
I've just tried to watch a brand new genuine blu ray film, but the acer arcade constantly stops working and the blu ray doesn't load up to play the film (it loads the adverts prior to the film but not the actual film) acer arcade asks to check for soultions to the problem but doesn't bring any up when I click get solutions.
If I don't get that error message I get a message along the lines of an unexpected error occured, please reboot your machine.
The blu ray is brand new, scratch free and plays fine on other blu ray players.
on the acer arcade menu I've gone to settings and clicked live update, it says connecting and then a message comes up saying no update is available, so I assume it's upto date although I don't recall updating it three times?
The version I'm using is: 2.1.6010 Audio Decoder: 6channel
Is the the right and latest version for Vista?
Whats the problem? Other blu rays won't play either and they take forever to load up until the point, acer arcade has stopped working pops up?
Basically, the laptop can't find any wireless networks in range, normally it finds several.
I know the wireless router / internet are fine because if I plug the Ethernet cable into the laptop from the router, the laptop goes online and likewise my old laptop will connect to the internet via wireless straight away.
On my new laptop, I've tried several ways to make it find the router but all it says is it can't find anything. I've clicked diagnosis why it can't find anything and it comes up with wireless is currently OFF and needs turning on by a button normally found on the top or side of the laptop.
I've clicked the button and it's 100% on, yet it keeps telling me it's not. The orange wireless light which normally comes on when it is connected isn't coming on either.
Any ideas? I've restarted the laptop and reset the router but nothing and I haven't changed anything, it just went off last night whilst on MSN and browsing eBay.
It's running Windows Vista and using Intel(R) Wireless Wifi Link 5100.
I've tried everything I can think off but end result is always it can't find any networks.
My notebook is Acer 8930G and my network adapter is an Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 and i used to have as a wired router a Dlink 524T, which i changed with a Netgear DG834 during my many attempts to resolve in vain my internet problems as i did with my ethernet cables.
About a week ago, suddenly my notebook ceased to have any internet connection and my status varied from local only to limited connectivity while both the green and orange lights on the adapter came and went continiously.
After a casual scan with Malwarebytez antispyware,it turned out that i had 9 infections from the trojan BHO,which turned out to origin from Acer itself,as it was part of the recovery hidden partition. This trojan appeared as Partner BHO that ran as an add on to Internet explorer and was part of the Acer-Google toolbar present at IE.
After innumerable efforts and formats,i somehow cleaned(so it seems without being 100% certain) my PC.The only thing is that the problem persists with the connection, while two other computers that share the network with me,didn't and still don't have any problems whatsoever.
My Atheros adapter functions as follows:The green light on the right is stable for a few seconds subsequently dissapears for an instance and then returns while the orange light beeps only at the presense of the green light. My network status vary from Local only to limited connectivity most of the times and sometimes it turns to no connectivity. The device manager indicates that all devices are working properly without any explanatory or question marks underneath any of them
I consider installing XP instead Vista (no Vista drivers for my HP scanner).
Where can I find XP versions of ACER software (Acer Empowering technology, AcereAudio management, AcereRocovery Management etc.) for 8930G notebook as well as all necessary drivers?
Are there any sites where all this stuff is grouped according to the specific notebook model?
Finally got my 8930G (and it's top quality). What is the best drivers around for the nVIDIA 9600 GT. I know some may say the latest drivers, but the latest any always the greatest.
It has a q9000 processor and geforce 9600M GT (1gb ram) on it.
Can the graphics card be overclocked?
What tweaks do people do to their laptops that are within safe limits?
I just want to get the best out of it. Currently use 32 bit vista home premium (pre installed), someone has said to use 64 bit version so looks like Ill do that. Someone else is giving me a free legit official copy of windows 7 64 bit, is it better to install that or vista 64?
Can the graphics card actually be replaced with a better one or is that not possible on laptops?
I bought two of these nice big shiny laptops and I as soon as I have started Vista they both want to create restore disks. No prob, I went and bought fresh DVD-R discs!
However, during the process I noticed the time getting longer and longer resulting in over 5hrs to burn a single disc!
I left them overnight as I thought it was a little odd and got the resulting burn error message then all hell broke loose! Both laptops no longer recongised their Blue ray drives! . The only way I could get them to shut down and restart fresh was too pull the power and remove the batteries....
I tried to burn normal files using the same type of discs and they worked fine, so why doesnt the eBackup programme like them?
Their must be a simple solution to this! I can't believe both laptops are faulty with the same issue!
anyone can confirm that these models really have the GDDR3 and DDR3 video ram and memory ram for the said models......coz i am quite confused because the HP dv5's and dv7's have the same specs as these models but the videocard of the hp's is not gddr3 and ddr3 respectively......what am i missing here..........are the video cards and memory ram types the same or acer is better coz its ddr3 already compared to the hp's ddr2 only memories?
coz right now am torn between this two brands....acer seems better in spec sheets coz it says the video n ram are both ddr3 already....thats better right??....anyways hope someone can shed light for me.....
I have one of the higher end specs of the 8930g but it is struggling with simple stuff. Even FireFox can get CPU to 100%!
I recently bought a hauppauge hd pvr and when I tried to edit video it became very slow!
It has quad core 2ghz processor 6m cache 1066fsb. When I paid £1200 for it I would have thought it would he more than good enough for stuff like this. Would upgrading the processor fix this problem?
If so, is there a list of which processors would be compatible? I have 4gb RAM and 1tb hard drive space...
I have recieved an external hard drive in the post today along with a cable to connect.
I connected the cable, turned hard drive on and nothing is happening. The hard drive connects via usb fine but that will be much slower to backup 500GB worth of data. Does anyone know if I need to do anything special to get it to work with esata or should it work straight away?
Not sure if the cable is esata 1 or 2 but it should work with either shouldnt it?
im trying to update my BIOS on my 8930G from 1.10 to 1.13 (or maybe even 1.14). Im only doing this as id like to enable VT but the only info i can find is related to 1.13.
Now ive downloaded the BIOS package from Acer and have tried to run the Insyde flash utility (x64 on Win7) but it wont install. After a few seconds it comes up with;
'BIOS not for your notebook'
In the Insyde application window i can can see the following info;
Current BIOS ID - 8930 & Version V1.13 New BIOS ID - KM2/TT2 & Version V1.14
i bought the acer aspire 8930g but on the net there are diffrence specification with the same brand thats confuse me . the question is on my laptop left side there is a logo says intel centrino 2 , do i really have this in my laptop how can i make sure how can i find out that i have intel centrino 2? coz i have bad feeling that they just put a logo on it doesnt really have that technology they might rip me of
I have Acer Aspire 8930G: T5800 CPU @ 2.00 GHz, GeForce 9600m GS 512MB, 4GB Ram DD3, 64bit OS (Win7).
I want to upgrade my current CPU to Q9100 QAVK, and I also want to get one of these video cards: 8700m GT, Quadro FX2700m or FX3600m. (All MXM III type)
Will any of these components work with my laptop? Will I need to update my BIOS etc…?
I have installed windows 7 64 bit and I have one problem. Acer arcade deluxe is telling me that my audio decoder is 2 channel and will not let me select 5.1. As a result, blu ray and movies play in 2 channel and they are the left 2 channels too, not very nice to listen to!
The weird thing is, in windows I get sound from all speakers!
Anyone know what I do? Or shall I just go back to vista until October?
Can someone with vista have a look at the arcade, go to settings and then about, it says the decoder there, does yours say 2 channel or 5.1? I am sure I was given the option to select 5.1 when I had vista but I have only had the laptop for a week or so.
got the 8930g with a 9700m GT 512mb DDR3, question is, the core clock on it is 575 max, isn't that maybe a little low? memory is 800 max, checked these via gpu-z.
