View 5 RepliesI notice that all reviews for this laptop are based on the SU9400 model. I'm wondering if these reviews are then accurate for the SU3500 and SU2700 models in terms of performance?
I know the SU9400 is dual-core, I'd just like to know the difference in performance between the two varieties.
If you want a quick info about the machine then watch these videos

How's Su9400 for Multi-tasking? will it get stuck if a few or more programs will be running at the same time?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am considering buying this system because of its sheer setup, this being SU9400/4Gb/11.6/4500HD/BT/HDMI...olympic version... along with light weight and great battery life for whats in the system

Few questions if I may....
1.Does it use a regular 2.5 drive and is it easily accessible?
2. I would like to upgrade to Win 64 and wonder if a bios update necessary and, if so, available?
3.Are 64 bit drivers easily obtainable?
4.As I am fm Canada, it will have this terrible bilingual keyboard...Can it be replaced and is it a simple process?
5.Recovery Media... Does it come with a windows 7 reinstall disk? If so, does the disk contain both versions of Win (32bit/64bit) and can either be installed with the same key?
6.If not, are there free versions of 64 bit available on the internet, as was the case with Vista, where one could legally download and use their key for 32 bit successfully?
1) SU3500 + ATI HD 4330 better than SU9400?
My usage would be web surfing, office apps, music/movie playback, 0 gaming.
I tend to multitask, open many tabs when browsing, plus run several apps at one-go etc.
2) Can I easily replace the HDD with a SSD and will it support the 2.5inch SLC ones?
3) Are there official 9 cell batts for this model out yet?
I'm having a bit of trouble finding out this information. Does anyone know if there is a release date yet on when Acer will be offering the su9400 in either the 4810 or 5810 timeline series?
View 5 Replies View RelatedOne is marketed as business-grade, another is consumer-grade. Both look very similar and I am not sure if the materials used are any different. So tell me, as I am preparing to buy my next laptop.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have purchased a HP fv5 1215 tx its C2d 2.2ghz (intel T6600) has Nvidia 9600M GT graphic card,15.4 inch display full specs:- [url]
I felt that the 6 cell battery life is not as it sould be (a few fellows have laptops, without a dedicated graphic card, so i wasnt sure) so I have ran some tests (more than once to verify data ,the difference is +/- 1 minute) to verify the status of the battery ambient temperature around 35~40 celcius
All 'tests' were on windows vista SP1 , 50% brightness, no wifi, bluetooth, lan moden connection,no usbs attached on windows vista, when laptop is idle (to test, i just opened it up,changed the powersettigns so it doesnt close scree, run screen saver ,suspend or hibernate, and left it there, doing nothing and it ran for mere 2 hr 30 min
and with everything same, ran a avi movie off harddisk it lasted 2hr 18min
when turned off , it takes 1hr 45 min to charge from 1% to 100
when turned on it takes 2 hr 25 min to charge from 1% to 100
I just installed Windows 7 on my MBP 13". Seems like battery life is a little shorter, about 4:37 max, while I got just over 5:00 hours in XP.
Is this consistent with what other people found?
I'm considering going back to XP.
the 17 macbook pro would have poor batterylife due to drivers and the forced use of the dedicated gpu. now I got an idea: how about the 15 with intergrated graphics? I've heard that the 15 on dedicated graphics can hit 3-4hours(in windows) which isn't quite enough but VERY close.
View 10 Replies View Relatedi looked online i couldn't find an comparison between :
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor SU9400 vs Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500.
i am trying to buy my first acer computer and i am deliberate between the timeline 14" with one of this cpu .
i was wondering what would bee the different between the 2.
they have the some system bus 800mhz and the some clock speed 1.4Ghz, the only different is between 1 core or 2 .
price different would be from 579$ (staples spacial) with su3500 to 919$ (only from Canada) with su9400.
at a significantly speedier 1.6ghz compared to 1.3 and 1.4 for the former two.
I can save app -80+ bucks going with the su9300 then upgrade later.
1. Is the upgrade easy?
2. What will su9600 cost? .. app/best guess.
this thread is for all Acer Timeline owners who suffer from 100% CPU load, when only thing that helps is restart.
1. If you are a Timeline owner - having this problem or not, please do report here, what model you own and tell us how is this happening for you.
2. Please inform Acer about this, so they know and can offer a solution (especially if you're from United States as this will have greater impact rather than me telling this stuff to Slovak Acer service)
Alright, this is what I got so far about this thing:
-CPU will just go nuts at no specific time (idle, browsing, ...)
-Proccess explorer shows 'Hardware Interrupts' as source of 99.9% of CPU power
-unlogging won't help, only restart does
-updating BIOS doesn't help
-uninstalling acer epower managment doesn't help, even though it seems making these episodes less frequent somehow
Mine notebook is:
5810T with SU3500 and GMA 4500MHD.......................
I'm looking for a Timeline with:
Core 2 Duo Processor
the ATI Graphics Card (not integrated intel)
and a DVD Writer/Player
As to screen size I don't really care which it is, 13-14-15...I suppose I'd prefer 15, but any will do as long as the above specs are met.
I've read reviews that state the timeline series offers these specs but I can't find anywhere that sells a Timeline with them in it.
I actually have a Gateway EC1815U and heard it is identical to the acer 1810t.
In the Gateway bios (insyde) I see an option for a device on IDE1. IDE0 is used for the internal hard drive.
I am wondering if there is either
1- a way to expose the 2nd IDE externally to use like a eSATA device with it
or
2 - Be able to install a 2nd IDE device like a SSD to use that interface
I'm wondering out loud and checking here to see if anyone can offer some advice.
Im receiving my 3810t-6775 this week.. the one with the su9400 and the intel x25 80Gb ssd, im wondering which os will perform better? XP or 7?
Which are the pros/cons/tips to make it run better?
I never had an ssd before (well.. the 2gb from the eee700 a while ago but it doesnt count for me )
My 4810T has the fan always on (not too loud, but on nevertheless...). I can't tell if it's because of the CPU (intel SU9400) or the GPU (intel gma 4500mhd).
Is there any option where I can control this? I'm on Ubuntu and I'm using the "CPU frequency scaling monitor" applet to throttle the CPU, but even in it's lowest frequency, the fan never shuts down.
I am thinking to add XP to my TL.
I kinda tried drivers from acer.com but some did not work.
Anybody successfully installed XP on thier TL?
Anyone with 3G module installed on 4810 model?
Trying to upgrade mine but no luck so far...
I had installed Windows 7 and it was working fine but it blue screened and now it won't start. Fine, I decided I'd just reinstall it but if I put my flash drive in it will just stick at the Acer Empowering People splash screen and won't move for a while and then just goes to a screen about something being not connected and then it'll boot to the normal start Windows Recovery (Which doesn't work) and start Windows normally. If you try to start it normally it'll either stay on the Windows animation starting or get to login and then i'll input my password but it goes to Blue Screen.
I formatted the flash drive using this guide [url]
I've tried having USB FDD and USB HDD as the first boot option and still nothing.
I was looking at the Acer Timeline 3810t and I am thinking about purchasing it because the battery life is great and so is the performance. Yet, the one thing I found that may hold me from purchasing is the stiff mousepad buttons brought up in many reviews. I was wondering if anyone who has this laptop has experience with the touchpad buttons. Are the really stiff that it would annoy someone who uses their laptop on the go without an external mouse?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI uninstalled all the extra software that this laptop came with. One problem i am having is every SECOND start up, the computers loads very slow. The next time i turn on the laptop it will load really fast and all the icons and stuff will pop up right away. Then the next time it will be slow again, windows load then only the wallpaper visible, the icons on desktop and the start bar is not there for about 2 mins.
I tried to restart and i noticed it is always on the second start up.
Also i tried to format my laptop with XP on a usb stick. When i get to the set up, it can not detected the harddrive but only the usb stick.
I'm looking at getting the Timeline 4810t with either the SU2700 or SU3500. Can anyone tell me any discernible differences I'll find between the two? Right now I'm looking at about an $80 difference between the two (also 1gb more ram with the SU3500).
Also, fyi this laptop will be for law school so it won't be very task intensive besides internet research, word processing, onenote etc.
computer beeps everytime the adapter gets taken out and plugged in. I tried lowering the volume, turning the sound scheme to no sound. But the beeping still happens.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've previously had good experiences with HP until their past few models which have been a nightmare for a long, long list of reasons. But this post isn't about HP it's about Acer. This is my first Acer product and I've had a very positive response to the quality of their design but a very poor experience with the quality of manufacturing.
The unit I purchased is the Acer Aspire Timeline 4810T (1.4Ghz, 4gb, 14", 320GB WD) from Staples (US retailer) for the bargain price of 544.98 USD.
The most attractive aspects of the 4810T includes:
* The battery (wow!)
* The excellent, bright LED screen
* Fantastic keyboard (the fn key is to the right of ctrl, perfect!)
* Synaptics touchpad (the best)
* Super quiet fan even when playing games and doing heavy processing
* Decent speakers (dolby) with great sound through headphones
* USB ports on both sides
Some of the less attractive aspects include:
* Keyboard audio functions seem to rely upon software instead of hardware and can fail during heavy processing or if the OS hangs
* As a single piece of platic instead of separate buttons. The touchpad button only works on the edges with the center being "dead"
* No dock
* No expansion slot
* The speakers beep loudly when power is connected/disconnected if the speakers are on (annoying)
* The wireless light blinks during activity instead of just being on or off (annoying)
* The screen hugs the keyboard too closely creating key-shaped oil deposits on the screen (not uncommon but undesirable and a source for damage if something hard like a grain of sand is on the keyboard)
I have a 4810T (SU3500) and the wireless connection is giving me some issues. After a suspend or restart the wireless connection does not reconnect properly. Sometimes the icon says I'm connected but there is no data transfer. I have to disconnect/reconnect or turn off/turn on the wireless via the touch sensitive button. Once I do that the wireless connection is rock solid.
I'm using the newest Intel drivers and Bios version 1.23
Which is the difference?
Im thinking about buying acer timeline with SU4100 , does watching divx, movies, multitasking work? And does dvd's stutter ?
is it alot slower than su7300 ?
how are folks preparing to upgrade their Acer Timeline to Windows 7? Are you assembling the drivers on Acer's website, or are you content to rely, at least initially, on Windows 7 drivers? For folks who will be upgrading to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, what are you doing about the fact that there seem to be very few drivers and applications currently on Acer's support website?
I keep telling myself that Acer is going to release something, anything, in the next few days giving customers at least some guidance and help on how to get their Timelines fully compatible with Windows 7, but those are probably pipe dreams. So... as folks upgrade to Windows 7 over the coming weeks, it might be helpful to post experiences--good and, in particular, bad--for the benefit of the community.
Owners of the Acer Timeline 3810T-6775:
What model SSD is in your Acer Timeline 3810T-6775?
Is it the 1st or 2nd generation of the Intel X25-M?
Please note when and where you purchased your Timeline.
reference: [url]
The second-gen X25-M's extensive under-the-hood changes are capped by a new skin. Gone is the black exterior of the old drive; in its place is a bare metal casing that's gone unpainted in an attempt to further reduce costs. A black metal shim has been added to bring the drive up to a standard 9.5-mm thickness, though.
It's a good thing that there's a color contrast between the old and new models, because Intel intends to produce both as its customers make the transition to the new hotness. One may also differentiate between generations based on their model numbers: The old ones end in G1, while the new ones are tagged as G2.
