In the last couple of months I've noticed my laptop is getting pretty hot, well actually REALLY . Right now after turning it on for 45min and turning on a game, not a really intense game and I'm not doing anything on it yet, for 10 minutes the temperature reading is already 92 degrees Celsius for the gpu, 23 for the cpu, and 44 for the hdd.
My laptop didn't heat up before only within the last 2 months or so, even though I don't use it that often since I'm mainly on my computer now.
Seeing as I pretty much made up my mind and want to buy a Acer Aspire 8930G, I hope somebody here can give me some specific advice. Maybe someone who owns one of the laptops (I hope there aren't any differences, depending on the country you live in)
I am looking at the Acer Aspire 8930G-644G32MN or the ACER Aspire 8930G-584G32BN. The first one is 300 Euro's cheaper than the last one. Besides that big difference I can't seem to find any. Did I miss some specific diffence, like do they both have Surround Sound and a BluRay drive and a full HD screen? Does any of the two support DVB-T? Do they both have a 9600 GT graphics card?
The reason why I ask is because I looked through, I don't know how many internetsites with specs and it's amazing how they all differ, obviously mainly copied and pasted from other internetsites. And I really want to get the right one and not regret my purchase after a while.
Basically, the laptop can't find any wireless networks in range, normally it finds several.
I know the wireless router / internet are fine because if I plug the Ethernet cable into the laptop from the router, the laptop goes online and likewise my old laptop will connect to the internet via wireless straight away.
On my new laptop, I've tried several ways to make it find the router but all it says is it can't find anything. I've clicked diagnosis why it can't find anything and it comes up with wireless is currently OFF and needs turning on by a button normally found on the top or side of the laptop.
I've clicked the button and it's 100% on, yet it keeps telling me it's not. The orange wireless light which normally comes on when it is connected isn't coming on either.
Any ideas? I've restarted the laptop and reset the router but nothing and I haven't changed anything, it just went off last night whilst on MSN and browsing eBay.
It's running Windows Vista and using Intel(R) Wireless Wifi Link 5100.
I've tried everything I can think off but end result is always it can't find any networks.
anyone can confirm that these models really have the GDDR3 and DDR3 video ram and memory ram for the said models......coz i am quite confused because the HP dv5's and dv7's have the same specs as these models but the videocard of the hp's is not gddr3 and ddr3 respectively......what am i missing here..........are the video cards and memory ram types the same or acer is better coz its ddr3 already compared to the hp's ddr2 only memories?
coz right now am torn between this two brands....acer seems better in spec sheets coz it says the video n ram are both ddr3 already....thats better right??....anyways hope someone can shed light for me.....
i bought the acer aspire 8930g but on the net there are diffrence specification with the same brand thats confuse me . the question is on my laptop left side there is a logo says intel centrino 2 , do i really have this in my laptop how can i make sure how can i find out that i have intel centrino 2? coz i have bad feeling that they just put a logo on it doesnt really have that technology they might rip me of
I have Acer Aspire 8930G: T5800 CPU @ 2.00 GHz, GeForce 9600m GS 512MB, 4GB Ram DD3, 64bit OS (Win7).
I want to upgrade my current CPU to Q9100 QAVK, and I also want to get one of these video cards: 8700m GT, Quadro FX2700m or FX3600m. (All MXM III type)
Will any of these components work with my laptop? Will I need to update my BIOS etc…?
i currently have the Acer Aspire 8930G 584G32Bn - my processor is Intel core2 duo T5800 (2.0 GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache) - running Windows 7 x64 (bought this so it is a 'vanilla' (clean) install - didn't come pre-loaded on laptop
i am wanting a performance boost (currently getting this by using a program called throttle stop)
i know there are different Intel processors such as the Q900 and Extreme...
what is the best possible processor for my system? and what would you reccomend?
I know the usual drill, disable bluetooth, reduce brightness and etc.. but since i bought my mac (October) my battery life have decreased from 4:30 hours to about over 3 hours. Does anyone have anytips? Use black wallpapers? Use safari instead of firefox? We could make sticky thread for reference for future mac owners. i am using safari right now, and it seems to be consuming more energy than FF
I found that we don't have an owner's thread for Acer's latest Gemstone Blue notebook, the 8930G! I got the laptop today and it is a beaut! I got the 6243 model with BluRay.
If anyone here has tweaked it or has some useful tips, post it here! I'm pretty novice in regards to notebooks so it would help me just as much as other members! A quick guide to what to install and uninstall would be greatly appreciated. Also appropriate drivers would be beneficial.
If I'm too new to this board to post an owner's lounge, my apologies.

i just have updated the bios for my notebook after a while i get a bluescreen error the microsoft error was showing the error and the error happens because of bios update my RAM and CPU not working very well with my new bios version so i just want to rollback the version from 1.10 to 1.05 one
any link that i can get the 1.05 bios version?
if i would do a full system recovery like factory recovery would that goes back to old version?
My problem is that when i start up my Laptop (its about a week old) i just get a black screen and nothing else. The only way of solving this problem is to take out the power lead and the battery and start it up again. I dont want to have to do this everytime i start up my laptop.
This first happened after my laptop crashed (Frozen screen bussing through speakers) there was a lot running at the time, virus updates, windows updates etc.
I am just wondering if my Acer Aspire 8930G has an integrated TV card or not... i believe its one of the lower-end 8930's
The product number is: 54G32Bn here are the specs; Intel Centrino 2 T5800 NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS (512MB) 4GB DDR3 RAM 320GB HDD inc. Blu-ray disc drive. 5.1 surround sound.
On the right hand side of the Laptop there is a TV-in port next to the Kensington lock slot.
When I plug the computer into my Philips HDTV via the HDMI cable (a cable I know is perfectly good and undamaged), the video pops right up onto the TV. The edges are cut off but I know why that is.
The audio is another matter. The TV says it doesn't have any audio coming in, at all. So I check the Sound applet under Control Panel, to see what it's got to say. Under Sound, I see three devices:
Speakers - RealTek High Definition Audio (this is the computer's built-in speaker) NVIDIA HDMI Out - NVIDIA High Definition Audio Realtek Digital Output - Realtek High Definition Audio
The default is the speakers, and when I plug in the HDMI cable the computer automatically switches to the nVidia HDMI out. When I play something out (I've tried both Winamp and Windows Media Player), the VU meter next to the selected device bounces up and down as if there's sound playing. Yet, despite the volume being near maximum on the TV, there's no sound.
I've tried switching from the nVidia option to the RealTek option. I've tried restarting. I've tried updating the drivers to all the current versions. Nothing works. This is a Windows 7 Ultimate x64 installation.
my computer produces this crackling noise and everything begins to slow down. it doesnt happens everytime but most of the time. like when im watching a video, the crackling noise would come and the video would slow down and the sound would go into a low slow motion sound ..
I have bought nVidia GeForce 9650M GT 1GB DDR2 MXM II Graphics Card from ebay. Aspire 8930G is listed by the seller as one of the laptops that supports the card.
I have changed the card very carefully. My previous card was 9600m GS DDR2 512mb MXM II.
At the moment the laptop does recognize the card, however sees it as Standard VGA Graphics Adapter.
Here is my GPU-Z screen shot. [url]
And this is what it should look like after installing nVidia video driver. (So I believe) w ww.aliexpress.com/product-fm-img/288728719-NVIDIA-GeForce-9650M-GT-Graphics-Card-Acer-Asus-wholesalers.html
However when I try to install nVidia drivers from the nVidia website, the setup informs me the following: "The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."
Has anyone tried 9650m GT with their Acer laptops? Did it work? Does anyone have a solution in my case?
I hope to find an answer here, I have an Acer Aspire 8930G. It came with Windows Vista but I bought Windows 7. I installed it and it runs fine up to the last boot (right after the accountname and internetconnection questions) After it boots it will go to the recovery straigt away. I called Acer and the guy was a man of few words, he basically just told me it couldn't be installed unless it was a Windows 7 bought from Acer. Is this really the case that Acer is like all those horrible telecomcompanies with their customized firmwares?
last week i had 1 vertical pink line come on my screen and i dont know why because i hadnt dropped it or anything, but ever since i have been getting more and more of them until today when i turned it on and theres a big group of them.
I was wondering if i brought a new lcd for it would this fix this problem?
And also how easy are they to fit by yourself if you dont really know much about computers?
I'm running the Windows 7 RTM on my Acer. One of the main things I was excited about in this build was the Windows XP Mode, which requires the use of the Virtual PC 2007 Beta in conjunction with a specialized add-on (both are available for download here).
Well, long story short, the Virtual PC installed with no problems. The Windows XP Mode module also installed, but when it tried to run I got the following error:
"Virtual Windows XP could not be started because hardware-assisted virtualization is disabled. Please enable hardware virtualization in the BIOS settings and try again."
I got on the phone with Acer Tech Support--yes, the guys who charge money for their services--and although they tried their best, the only solution they really gave me was to update my BIOS from version 1.00 to version 1.13. To no one's surprise, that didn't help.
My processor is an Intel Quad-Core Q9000, which according to both the Intel test utility I got through Microsoft and Securable, my processor supports this function. Securable even wanted to run a deep-level check and see what was preventing it from running, but for some reason it said it couldn't function properly in a 64-bit environment, so I'm still in the dark.
In my BIOS there appear the following options at the top of the screen: Information, Security, Boot, and Exit. That's it! No Advanced tab, and no options even remotely pertaining to the processor.
Is there any way to make what I hope are simply hidden Advanced BIOS options visible?
I have read guidelines of battery maintenance. It says the best is to keep charge level of the battery at a certain level: 40% for storage, around 80% for standby. I am using same levels for my office laptop Lenovo T400. It is set via Thinkpad Power management utility and works marvelous! Hovewer I was not able to find similar settings in Acer Power management SW. Vista doesn't have that either (as it seems to me ). My main idea is to keep the battery attached and serve as a standby power backup, but minimize charge level to 40%. It is sufficient to protect against short power interruptions or roam around the house from one socket to other.
I flashed the Bios (from Acer webpage vers. 1.10 to vers 1.13) on my notebook Acer Aspire 8930G - 864G64Bn. No I have a really big problem.
I can switch on my notebook and it shows the Acer empowering people screen, but stay there. Nothing happens. The only thing I can do is press F2 (is the only thing which is offered on the screen) But also there it just says please wait.... and nothing happens.
At the first time reboot after flashing I was able to enter the Bios, but since than I can't.
So I read a lot of using a usb thumb drive or an external floppy drive.
Will this work for my notebook and should I copy just the .FD file on it?
I have an Acer 8930G, it's knocking on some years (approx 7ish) and this is the first problem I have had with it. When i turn it on, the normal Acer screen shows up and then where it would normally load to windows it just blacks out. There is still power as the all the lights are still working and there is a white-ish light which looks inside the base of the screen. I have looked around on the web and have tried the flashlight on the screen and also removing battery / power cable and holding down the power button for a minute and rebuilding and trying again, but to no avail. I am able to get onto the BIOS screen, and it did look like the boot device in position 1 was the BD drive, I moved this back to the hard drive but still the same....
Recently, the screen on my laptop goes blank, then after a few seconds returns to normal with a message that the display driver stopped working but has recovered. Â Is there a possible solution to stop this happening?
has anybody else had a crackling sound when playing sound example music/games. i always get it in my right speaker and how can i fix this i believe this is a software/hardware issue as whenever the sound goes off the crackling deaseses.
I just purchased a 4810T laptop, formatted it, and loaded windows 7. Now on power saving Mode it says i only have 4 hours of battery left.. what happened to the selling point of 8 hours?
I'm thinking it might be because I don't have the empowering technology and power smart applications installed, but i can't install it anyway as it doesnt work on windows 7. So whats the problem here? my laptop, windows 7, or acer software?
My battery icon keeps on displaying that my battery is not depleting, which is weird since I've been using my laptop for several hours now and it is still at 100%. When I plug in, it registers that it is plugged in but says fully charged. Not sure if this is a magical always - full battery - or a problem?
I've had my Acer Aspire 8930G for about 4 months now, bought it brand new for around £800.
I've never really tried playing Blu Rays on it, infact I've not even watched one all the way through, I've only tested 2 when I first bought the laptop.
I've just tried to watch a brand new genuine blu ray film, but the acer arcade constantly stops working and the blu ray doesn't load up to play the film (it loads the adverts prior to the film but not the actual film) acer arcade asks to check for soultions to the problem but doesn't bring any up when I click get solutions.
If I don't get that error message I get a message along the lines of an unexpected error occured, please reboot your machine.
The blu ray is brand new, scratch free and plays fine on other blu ray players.
on the acer arcade menu I've gone to settings and clicked live update, it says connecting and then a message comes up saying no update is available, so I assume it's upto date although I don't recall updating it three times?
The version I'm using is: 2.1.6010 Audio Decoder: 6channel
Is the the right and latest version for Vista?
Whats the problem? Other blu rays won't play either and they take forever to load up until the point, acer arcade has stopped working pops up?
I have an acer 8930G with a Q9000 processor, 500gb hd etc. Running visa home premium at the moment (32 bit) and looking to change.
I have created factory restore dvds in case I need to revert anyway.
But I do not want to spend ages installing windows 7 if there are no acer drivers etc for it.
Has anyone who has this laptop installed windows 7 and is it working?
I have been given an official 64 bit version of windows 7 (some guy I know is on some training course or something) but I cant find out info about it.
Obviously I need the dash thing to work for volume control, I use the fingerprint reader a lot too, I also have a tv card with my laptop (Havent managed to find channels yet though!!). Basically I want to see if everything works? IE do the vista drivers work?
