View 10 Replies View Relatedi'm considering reinstalling windows 7 home premium on my laptop and i'm wondering if i can use a regular windows 7 home premimum disk instead of the "restore/backup" discs that came with my acer laptop. Reason for doing this is because i do not want all the bloatware from the original backup discs. is this doable?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a new hard disk for a Dell D630. I was able to install Ubuntu but I cannot get Windows to install. When I try, it does the preliminary loading but when it starts to install I get the blue screen of death. A Google search on this came up with make sure the BIOS has the disk set for IDE. In my BIOS settings however, there is no setting for this, only an SATA choice of ATA and ANCI, both of which I've tried.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an acer aspire 5630 laptop which I bought in October. Now I had to repartition and reinstall windows vista for some unavoidable circumstances. But I have lost all the softwares like NTI CD/DVD maker and drivers like modem. I do not know what the problem is but my dial up modem does not work. It shows something else in the modem list (Contexant) that is different from what was there originally ("HD audio"). Whether the telephone line is plugged or unplugged it shows the same error message. I mean the error message like no dial tone is shown while no telephone line plugged. Besides it does not produce the speaker sound even after enabling so which it used to do before.
Moreover, now as I have lost the softwares like NTI CD/DVD maker, how can I reclaim them as my warranty has not yet expired. (the driver is not in their website)
Is there a way to do a fresh install from a restore disk with none of the bloatware? And then just install all the drivers?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI recently Had my HP Pavilion G7 crash on me which ran windows 8 (OEM) I was unable to restore it. I decided to downgrade to windows vista and do a clean install due to the fact I connot locate my w8 install disk. The problem im having is my network, display adaptors and other devices arent working and showing a yellow triangle with an exclamation point and ive done some research and tried fixes like unistalling and reinstalling but it still not working. Here is what is showing up with the exclamation points in yellow
network adapters
-acer NIC - 559A pro/100+ with alert on lan 2
Other devices
- SM bus Controller
-Universal serial bus(usb) controller
-universal serial bus (usb) controller
-Unkown device
I feel like if i can get online and get windows to update some of these things will clear up and fix. Now i did have problems with realtek PCIe FE Family Controller but i went and found the driver for that.here are some system info:
system Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
system model: HP pavilion g7 notebook pc
system type: x86 based pc (32bit)
processor: AMD A8 -4500M APU WITH RADEOM(TM) HD GRAPHICS,1900 HMZ 4 CORES
I did call HP free support because my warranty was up and they told me it seemed like an software issue or corruption and they felt confident they could fix it but they wanted me to pay for tech support which i dont mind but it would be a monthly service charge which i dont need constant tech support this is the first time ive ran into this issue they also told me that the tech would have me enter some Commands in command prompt to resolve this.
I have a 2.5 year-old Dell Inspiron 640M (the US model number might be different). I had originally purchased it for writing e-mails. Over the past 2 months, I have been using it for heavy work loads such as financial modelling.
My typical use is :
2-3 large spreadsheets open
4-5 PDFs open
8 tabs of web pages on CHROME
VLC to play music in the background.
Access + VBA editor.
Although I have 2 Gb and a 1.66GHz processor (T5500), I find the HDD LeD blinking all the time and I have to really wait for the OS to refresh the screen .....
Recently I have purchased a DELL XPS 15 (L521X) but I am not able to install windows 8 pro on it as the installer could not find the hard disk and keep continuously ask for the driver.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI went to listen to music on my laptop today like any other day, and my acer has the one touch preset thing for music.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have started noticing a strange whirring sound coming from the hard drive. This was certainly not there earlier. I have no idea what is causing this. I have not moved the machine off my desk for well over 2 months now.
Is this cause for concern?
While on this subject, I have another question:
I was thinking of buying a portable backup drive for myself as my existing one is full. Now, I am thinking I should replace the factory installed drive on the machine and replace it with a faster and higer capacity drive.
I am sure this can be done as per numerous threads here. The question is should I get the Acer authorized rep/ service guy in my country to do this? And should the drive also be sourced from Acer? I currently live in a country where buying off the market is a hit and a miss thing - don't want any oddball products, if you know what I mean!
Also, would this be a good opportunity to upgrade to Vista? I can get an OEM installation from Acer for a good price too!
This leads me to my last question:
Assuming I do all of the above - I also have the Office 2007 UltimateSteal edition (all legit!). If I change the hard drive on my machine, can I reinstall this on the new drive? Note that earlier I had the Office software on a previous laptop which crashed. I then bought the Acer and installed Office on it.
I was trying to install windows 7 when i got the "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GTP disks etc" Error.
I know i needed to disable something in bios but this laptop's bios isn't very detailed , i tried disabling the Legacy boot and now the laptop doesn't boot up anymore, not even in bios. When i power it on all i get is a black screen and the Caps lock blinks twice.
I tried pressing the windows key+B+ power button for one second while the laptop is shut down but it didn't do anything.
Im connecting my Acer 5920 to Tosh 42Z3030D HD tv using HDMI.
Thing is I dont know if it will show HD movies in 1080P?
Whats the maximum resolution the nvidia 8600GS M can do?
how i just cant make CIR working. device manager has it and its workig properly but none of the programs wich handle this device couldnt recognise hardware (girder, winlirc...).
i also have 'USB Asus IR Rec+Remote Set' but no better luck. i just cant find hardware with girder
I have a 5920 with XP SP3 on it. I was trying to burn some CDs the other day and all went well. At the end I put in a CD to see what was in its and when done I tried to eject it and the drive bay would not open - I tried it ejecting it from Explorer and by pressing the button. It would not open. So I had to use a pin to eject it.

it currently states 'no device' when the bluetoth button is pressed.
I have an ACER Aspire 5920
Intel Core Duo Processor T7300
3GB RAM
320GB Hard Drive
2GB DDR2
When I press the power button the power led comes on (screen doesnt)
and goes straight off again, this is before the bios even loads, this would continue 5 or 6 times before the computer starts up completely. This happens whilst on AC Power and battery.
I've been having issues with Vista on this machine, so yesterday I decided to scrap Vista and all the Acer software and install XP Pro. Now I have XP Pro SP3 installed.
I Googled and downloaded the XP drivers needed for audio (RealTek), webcam (Suyin), etc, and while they work, I'm having problems. The webcam worked great before the switch to XP.
1. The webcam video quality is very poor, like an old tv that needs to be thrown out.
2. The audio pick-up of the built in microphone is extremely low. I've gone through all the adjustments I can find with no luck. This has actually gotten worse as I've tried to upgrade drivers and what-not. Before the audio quality was poor but it worked, now the audio is barely there at all.
I have been trying to upgrade drivers both from the Acer website and from other sources, but I'm not making any progress. I installed the drivers before upgrading to SP3 (which I had read was the way to go), but now that I have installed SP3 and am reinstalling drivers, it seems like things have gotten worse.
I am having this problem where the buttons on the right side of an acer 5920 (play, stop, forward, back, record) are not working under windows 7 32. Also just recently the red record button has been staying on :S and I can't seem to turn it off
View 5 Replies View Relatedhere we go......formated my laptop and removed XP, had vista on it at new but wiped it when i got it.
So i wiped it last night and reinstalled XP again, thought i had all the drivers but my device manager is showing Video Controller and Network Controller are not installed correctly.
Would the Network controller stop my wireless working because thats my main problem
getting my wireless set up. I even tried resorting back to Vista with the alt-F10 buttons but all its doing is bleaping.
Can i get it back to Vista, my daughter says she wants it and where exactly do i get the drivers i mentioned i'm missing.
Once windows xp is installed do i go to control panel and set up wireless ? if i remember i'm sure it all went on automatic the 1st time i wiped it.
On my Acer 5920, the screen flickers off and on when I plug up to my projector to give a power point presentation. I have called Acer NO-HELP; they said it was a 3rd party software issue, which was not true, because there is no software- it is plug and play. I called Epson; they suggested to chage the refresh rate to 60 and I did to no avail.
There final word was that it must be the Graphics Card.
I am using this machine over a year, its ok. I am working animation, compositing, sound design and music. So i want to make some changes on this pc.I need some recommendations, ideas about these:
1)I m using 2gb of ram and i want to max this to 4 gb. Is there any specific brand that you can say "good" and i also wonder how much mhz use max, recently i m using 667 and i want to buy what ddr2 offers max if there is no any adaptation issue.
2)I also need a 7200rpm harddisk. But i know nothing about laptop hdds. I m thinking for the best hdd as possible. But, i dont know what hdds are avalible for this Acer model, or is it not necessary something like that.
3) Finally, I ve created an Acer backup DVD, i wonder how easy to setup the computer if i change the hdd? I mean is it going to be licensed and free of problems like before.I used recovery once before, but with Empowering T software. Never did with a DVD.
I recently had a small flood in my basement. While my laptop didnt get wet the power adapter did. It stopped working as there was water dripping out of the adapter. I purchased a IGO adapter from Radio Shack. I tried it in the store on my laptop and it worked fine. I got it home and it was a different story. The unit kept turning itself on and off and i kept having to jiggle it to work. Finally I decided to return the adapter and buy another one. I purchased a 90 watt adapter from Best Buy. Now the machine doesnt do anything. Nothing happens, no blue light or anything.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo a year or two ago I bought an Acer Aspire 5920, it's always ran extremely hot (to the point that if I don't use an external fan it will skip movies and lag out everything). This will technically be the second laptop I've bought (the first had the same problem so I exchanged it for this one). I sent it in to Acer twice and it's come back the same way both times, with them saying there is nothing wrong with it. I now have to use a laptop stand with a desk fan behind it (and it STILL gets too hot). I have tried cleaning out the inside, reapplying the liquid silver (or whatever it's called) to the processors and heatsink bar, and even cleaned and oiled the fan. Is there anything that can be done about it?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just replaced the T5550 cpu with a T9500 (SLAYX) in my Acer Aspire 5920. I cleaned and applied Arctic Silver 5 to the cpu and gpu. It started right up, but now it seems like the cooling fan doesn't ever shut down. When the temp. hits about 55 deg C.
(according to speedfan 4.39), the fan runs at full speed. With the T5550, it would need to reach about 65 deg before running full speed, but not for long.
I have system BIOS v.1.3810
Is it possible that I did a poor job of applying the Arctic Silver 5? Any settings that
I need to change for the fan to stop continuously running?
I recently replaced the T5550 cpu in my Aspire 5920 with a T9500 (SLAYX). I bought the T9500 on E-bay as new, SLAYX, installed it and it works fine. Two different programs (CPU-Z and PC Wizard 2008 identify this processor as a T9500 (ES). The cpu had the SLAYX marking on the top. Is it possible I bought an engineering sample cleverly disguised as SLAYX?
View 6 Replies View Relatedmy seven week old son decided to vomit across my Acer 5920 laptop yesterday.
The laptop still boots but I can't login as some of the keys are stuck.
I've downloaded the service manual but I can't seem to be able to lift the keyboard off. There are four areas to prize open just below the speaker but I can't work out how to do it - do they push in or lift up?
Do I take out the tray it's sitting in or prize up each of the keys individually?
