I have finally switched and should get my first ever mac the new macbook white in next couple of days
I have two questions, I had ordered SODIM DDR2, 800Mhz 4GB RAM and a 500GB, 7200RPM SATA Drive with a thought of upgrading my latitude E6400.
Can I use them (RAM and HDD) and upgrade apple macbook? and will that impact apple warantee?
I just upgraded my MBP to 4GB from Crucial.
This is what my "about this mac" looks like now:
I forgot to check what it looked like prior to my upgrade. It's probably silly but I just want to make sure that everything matches up. Can someone with a factory default 2.2GHz MBP confirm that it also reads 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM?
The original RAM was Samsung. This one says Crucial on one side and has an M logo on the other side. Not sure what brand it is.
I just got done upgrading to 3.0 on the 2g iPhone via redsn0w. I have to say the sideways texting is a huge improvement. I want to copy/past every once in a while, but I think for the moment, it's not a huge improvement. Maybe that will be bigger down the road. The other thing I wanted was MMS, but I'm not sure it works with T-Mobile. I heard and I could be wrong, it's not working with AT&T at the moment. I'll have to have someone send me one latter today to see if it works. Other than those few things, I didn't see anything majorly different, but the texting is huge.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have the stock 320 in my MBP. I almost ordered the Intel SSD that was like $1000...but then I came to my senses and told myself that was crazy.
However, in my old MBP I had the Hitachi 7k200 hard drive, and then was a solid drive. It was definitely faster.
I want to get the Seagate 500 gb 7200.4 drive. Do you guys think I would be able to notice a difference in overall speed compared to my 320?
I currently have a 320GB Hard Drive. I separate it into 2 separate partitions of 64GB and the rest on the other.
What will happen if I were to get a new HD and I want to transfer everything over?
Basically, I have MacOSX and I want to install W7 in a separate partition of about 64GB or maybe less.
I want to upgrade to 500GB HD, and keep all the info and data I already have on my current HD.
I'm guessing the best way to do this is to just reinstall mac OSX and W7 and transfer the files over? What about programs?
I got a 13" MBP 4 days ago Its kicking so far...very impressed. I still don't think OS X is any better than windows but it sure is very slick. So I have a pretty straight forward question. I want to upgrade my ram from the base 2gb to 8gb. Will this ram work CM3X4GSD1066?

"how to upgrade the HDD" thread, so now I'll make a guide on how to upgrade RAM in the Aluminum MB and MBP's. Upgrading of the RAM is a bit more difficult, therefore it might be more helpful. You will be needing a Phillips 000 screwdriver, PC-8500 DDR3 1066MHz RAM, up to 4GB. I have yet to upgrade this yet, just waiting on the RAM from Newegg. So here is a step-by-step guide on how to replace you RAM in your Uni-body MB and MBP.
Step 1: You are going to turn your computer completely off to replace RAM.
Step 2: Make sure you have data backed up, just to be on the safe side. You don't want a bad ram module to lose some of your data. Some people don't do a backup before a ram upgrade, but I do.
Step 3: You are then going to flip the notebook over. Be sure to have a cloth or towel on the surface you're laying to notebook on, to prevent any scratches.
Step 4: No you are going to flip up the tab, just as you would do in changing the battery or HDD. After the tab has been flipped up, take the back battery cover off. The battery and HDD will be exposed at this point. Take the battery out.
Step 5: Now you are going to unscrew the 8 screws around the frame of the computer. There will be 4 short screws, 1 medium length screw, and 3 longer screws. Make sure you have a cup or dish of some-sort, so you don't loose your screws or get them mixed up...........
I'm planning to buy a MacBook pro 15 soon and I need to know the following
1. Are the processors 25w or 35w, the 2.66 ghz, 2.88 ghz.
2. Are the SSD's apple sell with the MacBooks fast and worth the upgrade?
3. Do the MacBook 15 overheat or get hot often
I have just upgrade RAM from 2 to 4GB for Macbook Unibody (2.0 / 466) just wondering for any new determination I could see, I've been manage photos with Lightroom, but haven't see any difference (or, I wasn't notice that) Maybe from all of your review can provide more information to maximize fo 4GB RAM.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI got a last gen MacBook Pro 15in and I'm wondering what I should upgrade first.
SSD Drive
8GB of RAM (I do a lot of DB work and gaming)
Dual HDD's (twin 1TB Drives)
Dual drives (1SSD, 1TB)
I'm looking to upgrade the harddrive in my Santa Rosa Macbook Pro and am currently choosing b/w these two
Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD5000BEVT 500GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache
[url]
Seagate Momentus 7200.3 ST9320421AS 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache

From what I have been able to gather the 500gb is quieter but has the slower revolution rate and less cache and obviously more space
My girlfriend has a Macbook 13' and recently she told me a problem with it, everytime she opens Word the system slows down, big time. It sounded like a Ram problem because I know Word is mem hog, plus all her other programs running. Anyway the Macbook comes with 512mb which is crap and can barely run much of anything, I looked it up and its fairly easy to install, so this is where you guys come in.
I need to find out how much Ram I can install (only 2? or up to 4? and can OSX even recognize 4?) and what Ram is compatiable (I thought Ram was universal, but I could be wrong)
im about to buy a black mac for my lil bro, and i was wondering if an ssd upgrade was possible.
View 10 Replies View Relatedhave had my macbook pro for a year and a half...figure it's time to experiment. I want to upgrade to either a 7200 RPM drive OR a solid state drive AND add Vista Ultimate either through boot camp or another piece of software. So two questions:
1) Where can I get apple HD's
2) How hard is it to swap an HD in a 2008 model MBPRO
3) What software makes it easiest and WORKS the best with Vista?
i had a macbook pro that i bought last year in april, its not the unibody. i would like to upgrade the ram to 4 gigs, do i have to use apple ram? like ram from sites like tigerdirect.ca but written apple, would this work? [url] also, how many ram slots are there and how fast can they go?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI picked up an old iBook G4, specs are:
1.33Ghz PowerPC G4
1GB DDR SDRAM
ATI 32MB VRAM AGP Video Card (integrated I believe)
Seems to be loaded with all the goodies: Bluetooth, Firewire, USB, WiFi.
Not sure if it would be worth it to upgrade to 10.5 though, seems like it would only slow me down but with Unix/Macs I'm not so sure. Plus, it appears that 10.5.x is the last OS Update for the PowerPC crowd.
I recently got my macbook pro 13 and am loving every minute of it, so much better than windows for me personally.
The mac was running really fast to start with with internet pages loading immediately on firefox. However, yesterday i installed office for mac and now things are loading more slowly, sometimes a 1-3 second delay while it loads.
Does anyone know if this is just something random or is it caused by installing office for mac? If it is caused by office for mac, would upgrading from 2gb to 4gb make webpages load faster? And generally make things more snappy on the mac?
I only use the laptop for office documents, internet browsing, movie watching and listening to music...so no intense video editing or any thing like that.
I recently got a Macbook Aluminum (the 2.0 Ghz), and i'm really impressed with it. Well, i haven't really explore everything (first time using a Mac, so please be gentle, ).
One thing's for sure is that i absolutely love the trackpad. The swipe thingy is incredible.
Anyway, any advice on applications that I should be using? I mean, other than the ones stated here (a superb guide by Sam if i might add)
I plan to install Windows to do some programming (job requirements, visual studio 2008 bla bla bla). Should I upgrade my memory to 2 x 2gb? Currently considering between boot camp and vmware...
I received an email from a friend this morning about upgrading a macbook, since I'm not really sure I figured I would ask here.
Firstly, here's the email:

a friend of mine needs to buy some ram for her Macbook.
She is currently running Mac OS X 10.4.11 but will be upgrading to 10.6.x soon (has it ordered) It's a processor 2 ghz intel core 2 duo, Currently has 1 gb 667 mhz ddr2 sd ram.....
I'm upgrading a Mac from 10.3.9 to Leopard. I've got an image of the disc... how do I go about upgrading.
The Mac in question is a desktop (please don't shut down the thread mods! ) 1.6ghz, power-pc g5, 1.25gb. I've checked the specifications for Leopard and its seems to meet them. [url]
Someone else tried unsuccessfully to upgrade Leopard on the same machine before without much luck.... hoping it might be better this time.
this is my first foray into 4GB in OS X. Just to appease my TypeA twists, could someone please comment for me?
Upgraded my uMB to 4GB last night and System Memory in OS X Activity Monitor (Utilities folder) shows 3.75GB available. I'm not freaked out about this, just wanting to check my curiosity.
Now the About This Mac pop-up window shows 4GB installed so I'm thinking the difference may have to do with OS memory addresses and such which is why you end up with memory recognition in 32bit windows systems, but I'm hoping for confirmation from others that I'm not missing something. The other possibility I considered for the difference is just simply the 1024bit vs 1000bit thing that you end up with in HDD sizing (and that would actually match nicely with the conversion @ ~3.73GB ).
I JUST got a new 13" mbp , but I need to upgrade the harddrive to maybe 320 or 500gb...I'm not too sure which specs to look for, and have noticed the opposing viewpoints for 5400 and 7200 rpms. I'm not a huge fan of a lot of laptop heat, but a faster harddrive would be beneficial for me, as I'll be DJing with serato.
Do you guys have any suggestions or harddrives that you'd recommend?
I also plan on upgrading to SSD when prices drop a good deal sometime down the road.
I got a macbook pro and I asked them to give me an upgrade for a 4GB instead of the standard 2GB DDR3. I returned the notebook but they had a policy that I should keep the 2GB DDR3 I asked them to install. This costs about GBP 80. So I ended up with 2GB DDR3 that I paid for the GBP 80. I checked online and I could find them for a much cheaper price. Why then apple has it with this price? Are they any different? Is the GBP 80 the price for the 2GB DDR3 only or inclusive the price difference between 2x1GB and 2GB one chip DDR3. Because in the process I guess they had to take out the 2x1GB chips and insert 2x2GB chips to fill up the two internal memory slots. I asked them but they told me that it is the cost of just the 1x2GB DDR3 increase that I ordered?
View 8 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to upgrade the 15" unibody MacBook Pro screen (1440x900) to a 15" 1680x1050 screen? Not concerned if it voids the warranty or not, just wondering if it can be done.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy upgrade to Snow leopard from Leopard went without incident, and everything works great except for Quicktime.
If I want to watch a WMV file, I get an error message indicating that Quicktime must be installed first to proceed.
The question is this. Can I install Quicktime alone from the Upgrade disk?
I tried the newest version downloaded from Apple's website, however it gives an error upon installation that indicates that the version is incompatible with Snow Leopard. I guess Apple has not updated their download website.
I just got a free Powerbook G4 17inch from a relative and I was wondering if I should upgrade it to Leopard or if I should keep it on Tiger. It has a 1.67Ghz processor, 2GB of ram and an ATI 9700 128mb. Will I notice any significant improvement in performance or will it slow this machine down more? I was inevitably planning to sell it but if I can run Leopard decently I'd most likely keep it. Though being unable to play HD youtube videos without stuttering is kinda annyoing.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi have a Unibody Macbook Pro 13" 2.24 GHZ Laptop. I want to upgrade to 4 GB but am unsure of the ram specifications i need to buy. I am interedted in the crucial 4gb ram. a Newegg link of the proper ram for my laptop?
View 6 Replies View Relatedhaven't seen this question yet, so I will ask it !
Now that the new Unibody 17" Macbook Pro has been announced and it has the ability to upgrade to 8GB of Ram, why is the Ram limit for the 15" Unibody apparently limited to 6GB ?
Just curious if this is indeed a firmware problem or ?
I've got my first Macbook Unibody that i've had for a little over a week now, and I love it (First Apple computer period). I've been using it with Parallels and everything's been running great, however I'm beginning to wonder if I'll get better performance with more RAM. I haven't really looked at the RAM usage of OS X right now, however I do know that with Linux the amount of RAM you're currently using isn't really relevant, it's swap space that's relevant.
Also, I don't do anything graphic intensive except for gaming in Windows (bootcamp) every once in a while, in OS X I use Parallels all of the time, so it may come in use there, but again that's what I'm asking for.
