May 23, 2009I was wondering if one could write a dual layer dvd on the dvd burner of xps m1530...?
I tried and failed once. can you write one? if not y cant we..??

Sep 10, 2012I just accepted the delivery of my 5 brand new notebooks for my company's new workers.

3 of those notebooks are HP Probook 450 G2's (PN: J4R69EA)
(These are the models with the 128GB SSD drives)
The other two are Lenovo E540’s with similar specs.

So first things first, create recovery media. So that is done before I hand them to the end users in question. While trying to create the windows disc, the "HP Recovery Disc Creator" program demands Dual layer DVD's: "Please insert a Dual-Layer DVD to proceed" The DVD's in question I’m using are "Sony DVD+R 120min/4.7GB" discs that in the past have always worked. (and at this moment are working for the Lenovo portables)

(in this case it is Drive F: for internal drive) I also tried an external DVD writer with the same results.

I have not tried a USB stick, but this is not what I want and since you can only create one set of backups…

This would not be that big of a problem if there was an actual windows 7 key printed on the portable. If I had a key, I would just reinstall the machine straight away with a clean windows 7 image so I dont have to clean out all the HP software. but unfortunatly this is not the case. so i need a Windows 7 Recovery disc to be created.

Jan 13, 2009I'm running a dual boot on my m1530 with Vista and XP. I used a link I found on these forums to find the XP drivers, put them on the disc, and install them that way. I tried to find the link again, but I cant.
Anyways, the problem is that when I close the laptop lid in XP (the problem does not occur in Vista) the screen goes black (maybe into hibernation?) and I have to hold the power button down to shut down the computer and restart it. I've tried fooling around with settings and that doesnt help.
Maybe it's a driver issue? Can some one lead me to the correct driver...or tell me what else may resolve the problem?

May 26, 2009I want to dual boot the new Win 7 RC with the default Windows Vista OS already on the M1530.
My issues lie in not being able to make a 5th partition on the HDD for Win7 to go onto. Is there any way to keep my computer intact the it is and get Win7 on the HDD?
Before I deleted the Media Direct Partition but thats a horrible idea... just wondering if it would be possible without keeping another 2.5" HDD around just to have Win 7 sit on.

Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: W540 - Dual Monitor Display Resolution With DVI-D Dual Link Cable
May 18, 2014I have recently purchased a W540 and connected to my Dell u3011 30" monitor. I used the Dual Link DVI-D cable that came with the monitor and plugged it into my Ultra Dock. The maximum resolution i can get is 1920x1080? When i change over to a Display port cable i can achieve the full 2560 x 1600 resolution? Is there something i need to do in addition to achieve the full 2560x1600 resolution with the DVI-D dual link cable? I want to be able to connect 2 laptops to the one monitor and only have 1 display port input so i need to be able to use the DVI cable on the 2nd machine while still achieving 2560x1600 resolution.

Apr 14, 2010The XPS 1645 offers choices of 4, 6, and 8GB of ram. Just out of curiosity, how can 6GB of ram be dual channel? I was under the impression that dual channel requires matching pairs, and that 6GB of ram would be one 4GB stick and one 2GB stick. However, the Alienware laptop seems to have listed what I would expect (3 and 6GB configurations not listed as dual channel).

Oct 26, 2007I have seen several sigs with people that have an e1705 with dual HDD's...But I can't seem to find any info on it. I need more HDD space, but I do not want to have to re-install everything on a new one. It would save a lot of hassle.

Feb 5, 2009I formatted my XPS M1530 using this guide (How to: Step-by-step guide for installing Windows XP on XPS M1530) and everything worked perfect.
But when I rebooted, I realised that the computer booted directly to XP and didn't let me choose between XP and 7. Normal, I thought, so I stuck in the W7 CD and selected the "repair" option. This did the trick very neatly, repairing the W7 install. The only problem was that now it will boot ONLY to W7 and I still have no selection screen for the OS.

I really like this feature on my HP, but dollar for dollar Dell has much better hardware out of the box. Some one let me know if any Dell's have this. Probably going to wait till Windows 7 comes out.

Feb 1, 2010I am trying to run dual monitors on a d630 with Intel 965 video and the laptop, after reboot, will not hold its settings.
It always wants to revert back the VGA screen as primary and ignores the second DVI monitor.
I have tried undocking and removing the dock profile so it can re-establish it but no success.

Jan 14, 2009I am trying to dual-boot Windows 7 on my XPS M1530 which is currently running Vista Ultimate - BUT I stumbled upon a problem. As I understand it, Vista will only allow you to have 4 partitions and magically I have 4 already.
I reformatted the laptop right after purchasing and no longer have the recovery drive. Here is what Vista says I have:
(1) EISA Configuration - 47mb
(2) C: (Vista) - 179gb
(3) Primary Partition - 4.25gb
(4) Primary Partition - 3gb

Oct 20, 2008I opted for 2 7200 RPM drives for my configuration. I also selected the quad core processor, 1gb video and 8gb of ram. I was very close to purchasing with SSD drives, but my first experience with SSD wasn't very good. I purchased one of the first XPS 1330 with the 32gb SSD option. I really bought into all the hype and after about 60 days I swapped it out with a 7200 rpm drive. Anyway, looks like SSD drives have improved drastically.
I was just reading some reviews and performance tests on the Intel X-25 80gb SSD drives. I'm considering buying two for the M6400 and setting them up RAID 0. I really don't care about storage space.

Dec 12, 2008I partitioned my HD and installed Vista on e: drive. Vista worked fine, and I have the option to boot either XP32 or Vista 64. However, both OS can see C: and E:. Therefore when I do an install I have to make sure I don't install anything on C: when running Vista.

I am using a DVI to HDMI cable and inputting it into the second screen (It is an lcd tv).
Windows 7 allows me to change the resolution of both monitors seperately. i made my regular monitor the same 1920 x 1200, but no matter what resolution i make the second screen, the edges, top bottom left and right are all cut off, sort of like a cropped version of what i should be seeing .....

Aug 1, 2009I had XP installed on my dell1640, but a pirate version. I had so many trouble with that software i went and bought a original xp software.
I messed the booot manger while deleting xp..so i did a full format of the machine and reinstalled vista...and then i partitioned the hard drive...so i can install XP...
now I instered the XP disc and and restarted my laptop and try booting i from the cd...it starts of fine.. and it gets to a point where it says Windows Will Start Setup or somthing along that line....and then the blue screen of death comes up and i have to restart....

Dec 23, 2008Some of you make think this is probably one of the most retarded things done, that may be so, but I also no use of the other graphics card seeing it doesn't fit in the newer e1705 frame.
I wish it did.. if there weren't any resistors where a pipe for a screw goes, then i would have done it, but.. that didn't happen to be the case, so here I am with a dual pipe X1400.
I just got done playing some CoD World at War, and here I am.. idling 15 minutes later, and I still can't get the X1400 above 125 degrees F, meaning that the dual pipes have dropped the idling temperature down by 30 degrees F!
Yes I have used Arctic Silver 5, I did on the single pipe frame too, but it seriously didn't make that much of a different if one at all, maybe a whole 3 degrees tops. Seriously can't beat this haha, now I should be able to get a little more performance and possibly even be able to O/C this card just a touch to get some more performance out of this bottom of the line card.
Just for those curious, even when I was running CoD WaW the graphics card never got hotter than the CPU core.. I can't believe how much of a difference this thing is making.
Because the dual pipe frame did come from the XPS Gen2/9300 body I did have to make a slight modification and chop off one section of it. And for spending a whole 15 minutes chopping it off, one would never suspect it wasn't supposed to look like that.
And now since beginning typing this the GPU has gone up to 127 but has been sitting there for quite some time now.
One last thing, for those curious... the half hour I did play CoD WaW.. the GPU fan never even turned on
