If you're like me, and you bought your Studio 1535, 1536, or 1537 with the standard keyboard and now wish you had the backlit model,
it's an excellent time to buy the keyboard on your own and install it yourself. It's an extremely simple process, involving no more than 4 Philips head screws, three ribbon cables, and ten minutes of your life.
Resaleremarking.net, an excellent parts retailer for Dell notebooks, has the backlit keyboard available for $37.95, which is an excellent price, especially considering it's Grade A, which is brand new. For reference, I bought mine for $50 just a couple months ago.
The part is now cheaper than ever, so what do you have to lose? Replacing the keyboard does not void your warranty with Dell, and is one of the easiest hardware replacements you can make on this laptop.
I'm tryng to install Linux Mint 16 on my new Envy 17-j113el, completelly removing Windows 8.1 (no dualboot needed)
Â
I was able to install Ubuntu 14.04 but no previous version, like Ubuntu 13.10 or my standard OS, Linux Mint 16, which is based on Ubunto 13.10.
Â
Seems that I have to wait for Mint 17 based on Ubuntu 14.04, right ? Any workaround ?
Â
Why is this so ?
Â
I dasabled UEFI going in "Legacy mode".
I own a Dell Inspiron N7110, i7 processor, 4GB of RAM with a Nvidia Geforce 525 optimus/intel integrated GPU. I need to install a Linux distro (preferrably ubuntu or debian) and dual-boot windows7. Is it possible?

Does anyone know anything about this?

Can i will be able to install the windows vista OS after installing windows Xp with the same BIOS settings for onboard devices (In BIOS:

I spoke to Dell India today and received a quote from them regarding Studio 15...but surprisingly they say that they don't have drivers for XP/Linux...
I know that the laptop comes with Vista Premium but I thought I could always change it later if I wanted to...whats this weird thing about not providing drivers for other OS?
Could someone from India who's got Studio 15 help me out?
I have recently purchased a Dell Studio 14 laptop with Western Digital WD3200BEVT 320 GB 5400 rpm HDD. I installed Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 immediately after purchasing it.
I am aware of the Load_cycle_count issue and would like to fix it. But with so many threads on the topic available on the net, I am a bit confused.
Has anyone applied the fix on the Studio Laptop with the above HDD yet? If yes, can anyone please share their experiences/caveats etc. so that I can confidently go ahead and apply the fix .....
I know that on the dell site it states that the studio only supports 4gb ram. But I know the chipset supports 8gb ram. I was wondering if any one has tried more than the 4gb.When I look at the report from everest, it states that the system supports 8gb.
View 10 Replies View Relatedis it normal for a the fan on a studio 1537 to ramp up every 5 minutes or so? It doesn't go to full speed but its cleary audible and a little annoying. When it happens when I'm just browsing the web etc so nothing is being taxed.
Its about a month old and I have had the fan replaced but didn't really make a difference. Is the controller part of the fan assembly? Is there something else I need to get replaced? or is this the case of the laptop jsut trying to keep optimal temperature?
I have a couple issues with the studio. I have the jumpy trackpad problem. Seems there is no solution.
And graphical coruption with the video card. It happens at random times to all windows and when playing games. Built in games, or other games.
i just cracked my screen and might replace it if its cheap enough. the back of the screen model is LP154WX7
and i am just wondering if i can just get any screen that was in a 1537 and fit it in or does it need to be the same model again.
I have a Studio 1537 with a 3450 graphics card, 500GB HDD, 4GB Ram and a T9400 CPU. After around 20 mintues of the laptop being on the area surounding the touchpad gets quite warm

The bios on my laptop says its A07 when the lastest bios on the Dell website is A05.
Saw one of these poll threads over in the hp forums regarding the HDX16t; thought I might start one for the Studio 15's since many people (including me) are experiencing problems with them.
View 10 Replies View RelatedGot a new Studio 1537 and read a lot about the sound being improved by removing the IDT drivers.
The sound on mine isn't great but I've never had a laptop before so have nothing to judge it by.
Are the new 1537's still improved by removingthe IDT drivers or have Dell already improved it. I don't want to uninstall drivers if its not going to make any difference.
Did a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit on a Studio 1537 and have a few questions. First off is how do I get the Dell backup software installed? My previous OS was Vista 32 bit so as I'm running a 64 bit os the disks that originally came with my computer probably won't be of any use.
I also require the Dell webcam software program. S Dell has a site where you can download this software but like a number of pages on Dell's site, it doesn't seem to work, does not recognize my service tag..
I also need software for the fingerprint reader. I found the driver for it, Authentec Inc but for some reason I can't find my previous software, Digital Persona Fingerprint Software.
Let me correct that, I did find it on their website but for some reason the program never fully installs itself. It says that it's now preparing to enrolling process but never does
It's been 1 month since I got my studio so I published a review of it on my site, Towards the optimal laptop.
Maybe you'll find it useful: Dell

I wondered about this for awhile because I am starting to see some shadowing on the lower left and right hand corner of my LCD.
I have about 14-15 brightness levels and I ordered the WLED LCD. Any ideas?
My Dell Studio 1537 can't boot up.
No BIOS is display

Wi-Fi Catcher doesn't work while off/on

The only thing is the media buttons which light up on touch .....
I have a Studio 1537 with a P8400 2.26Ghz CPU
I will be getting another Studio laptop for the mrs as we have had a refund for a bust laptop. As the Studios now come with a P8600 2.4Ghz chip as standard now i would like to swap the faster chip to my laptop.
Is this hard to do / possible? How do i remove the chip and will i need to apply any artic silver (my laptop/chip is only 2 months old).... Its been a while since i've installed a chip, last one being a 2.0Ghz Athlon
I have tried to find info on suitable processor upgrade for the 1537 that I am picking up tomorrow. It comes with the T3400 cpu which I am not a big fan of. I currently have a D630 with a T7500,
and was thinking of putting the T7500 into the 1537. However, after some researching, realized that they come from different platforms with diff FSB. Would that be a big problem? is this upgrade worth it?
If not the T7500, What other processor would you recommand? I have seen people using processors with 800mhz FSB, but not sure whats a good processor to upgrade to...
Ordered a Dell Studio 1537 on Thursday 26th March. Estimated delivery time is 14th April. To be honest with you. I think that is a bit of a long wait. Not very happy. On the other hand the payment cleared and it also went through pre-production within a day. It has been in production(phase 3) for 3 days now.
Other than that....
What do you guys think of it. Good laptop? My main specs are Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core Processor T4200 (2.0GHz, 800MHz, 1MB cache), 2GB RAM, 256MB ATI Mobility RADEON HD 3450, 160 GB HDD.

Also, can someone tell me the differnces b/w the 1535, 1536, and 1537? I am not a gamer, outside of an occasional game here or there (nothing too crazy-i.e. I have never bought a game that cost more than about $20 for context)...............
Dell has officially yanked the Studio 1537 SE from their website. It hasn't been an option on the actual Studio laptop page for several weeks, but you could still access the model's page by searching for "Studio 15 Special Edition" on Google, or Dell's own search.
Today, though, that page no longer exists. The Google and internal Dell search links just redirect to the main Studio laptop category page.
It was a good machine, and if I had my way, that's what the Studio 15 series would have become, not the 1555. The edge-to-edge display and that unique black and red finish were fantastic. T
his now means that the 1555 is the only Studio 15 model available from Dell anymore, and there's no way to get any of the 15.4" models with media buttons brand new.
