View 10 RepliesI need a copy of the hacked bios for updating an Inspiron 9300 with a 7800GTX video card to the XPS Gen 2 bios. The link in post on this site "photo guide to install 7800GTX" does not work any longer. I have the 7800GTX installed in my 9300 with the 9300 revision 5 bios but it shows unknown video card in the bios Device Info screen.
View 15 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know of a hacked BIOS that removes the whitelist for the DV8230US? I'm getting one with no drives, a bad optical, and potentially bad WiFi (it doesn't show up) for free next week. I'd like to try to put in the B/G card from my NC10, which is an Atheros that I'm pretty sure isn't on their whitelist.

And I was wondering how is the screen quality is (such as viewing angles). And wouldnt the beautiful glossy black scratch easily such as if something fell on it or skidded across it. Im apologize I am just really picky with my purchases.
* No offence, but I used three different Dell Xps m1530 and I found that the keyboard was very noisy, and feel so cheap. The trackpad is way too small and the trackpad buttons are to small and noisy.
I have some questions:
hacked by pca
1. Is the 4 gig of ram sufficient to run Vista 64 bit and the games
2. Is their much advantage to the RGBLED screen (when he is at home the laptop will be connected to his LG LCD monitor)
3. Finally is this a good buy (I can get a 21% corporate discount but it will still be over $950)
Finally why are the memory upgrades so expensive

View 13 Replies View Relatedim about to buy a XPS M1530 and i think im going to jump on the $99 for a Mini 9 Deal, i just have a few questions:
hacked by pca
For those of you who has a Mini 9, what do you guys think about it?
I read that the highest amount of RAM that the Mini 9 supports is 2GB, now is that 1 or 2 slots?
What is the biggest SSD that is available for the Mini 9 right now? I read that the Mini 9 takes 50mm SSD's and the biggest SSD is 32GB?
After all, i think it won't disappoint me for $99.. Im going to get the linux and install XP on it, upgrade the RAM to 1 or 2 gig and maybe upgrade the SSD from 4GB to something alittle bigger..
I am not sure whether this is normal: I usually put my laptop into Sleep mode after finishing work, so it's almost never turned off. However, it almost always goes to hibernation at about 77% to 75 % battery.
hacked by pca
I thought this is must be set up in the Advanced Power Options of the Power Plan, and I checked that the critical battery level is at 10%.
So how can it be that it goes off to hibernation so early?
I have an Inspiron 1720, about a year old.
The VC in my XPS M1210 (Geforce 7400) just crapped out.
hacked by pca
I'm sure its the VC. The diagnostic key sequence is also for the VC.
I was wondering where I could buy another VC. Is it built into the mobo, meaning I have to buy another mobo as well?
I called Dell but since my warentee expired a couple months ago they won't even speak to me without paying a 40 dollar fee which is rediculous.
I was lurking around the forums for a little bit after a "dell studio fan speed" google search led me here.
hacked by pca
Anyways, I've got a dell studio 17 C2D T6400 @ 2ghz, 4 gigs of ram and the integrated graphics.
I came across the program that I found here called I8kfanGUI to control my fan speeds (im really paranoid about using a laptop actually on my lap doing anything more than watching the desktop) and turn them all the way up while its on my lap.
I managed to get it to turn the fan speeds on full blast, and then the apparently common frozen desktop that only comes back after 10ish seconds for a half a second. (im on vista home prem 64 bit and already read about disabling the signed driver check though F8 on boot)
And now I cant get it to stop freezing. There isnt alot of use in a program that does what you wants and then completely crashes your computer.
I called and was going to renew my warranty since my warranty should be expiring in mid march. It had a 2 year complete card/accidental coverage policy,
It was sent in mid march of 2007 after a ton of trouble and was replaced with a new system.
hacked by pca
At that time they said that the previous warranty was gone since this was a new system and that this new system would have a 1 year limited warranty on it which was ok since the 2 year warranty was about up anyways.
So anyways I call today and they say the warranty on it is expired...first thoughts .. So i go through 2 or 3 CSR's and they all cannot explain why my current expiration for my warranty is 4-27-07, when it should be 3-16-08.
I finally get to an extended warranty CSR who decides she is going to go talk to her supervisor about it since something doesnt seem right.
She comes back and says that since something was messed up in their system or something.
Her supervisor says that they can offer to extend my warranty. I was like Great, I'm glad that's fixed.
Then she was like here are the prices...
$480 3yr CC , $380 2yr CC , $280 3 months CC (yes thats right, until April of this year). I was like Whoah!! when did the prices go up.
She proceeds to tell me I have to pay a reinstatement fee. I'm like uhhh, I'm paying a fee because you all messed something up and got my warranty date is wrong?
So I told her to give me a call tomorrow when I get paid and I'll give it some thought.
What do you all think? I mean a $100 fee for them messing it up, not to mention I'd like the cheapest option, but it's only 3 months coverage...

and every time i switch to performance mode (battery setting) aka switch to the 9400 it goes blue,
eveytime the computer tries to load a disk it goes blue. I'm running it in battery saving mode and its fine.

my system is a

4GB DD3
and an Nvidia 9500 .....
I figured we're due for a new SXPS 16 thread with the 4670 configuration. That way it doesn't get muddled with the 3670 which is a completely different motherboard and video card.
Hopefully this is ok with the forum mods. I'll continue to update this first post with relevant benchmarks, issues/solutions etc that crop up with the 4670 configuration.

Studio XPS 16 + ATi 4670 GPU FAQ:
Are there any gameplay videos of the SXPS 16 + ATi 4670?YES, I've made two of them that you can watch on YouTube:
1. First video is of the Street Fighter 4 benchmark. It's the Dell SXPS 16 (4670) vs. HP DV7 (4650 overclocked): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjFiZCeRRq8
2. This second video features Crysis Warhead gameplay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oS2Lr5NhfE
3. The following video was made using FRAPs (performance is degraded by FRAPs during video recording) by Skraeling: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gyYBFnCqXE .....
The previous Studio XPS 1640/1645 + ATi 4670 Owner's Thread was getting too large and slowing down forum search, so this is the new thread.

I keep getting crashes. I have had a two freezes where I had to hard boot it and 6 or 7 blue screens when trying to wake it up from sleep. Anyone have any ideas before I call Dell? I already updated everything.

when I turn on my inspiron e1705 during boot the screen has white marks on it all over the screen and when the os starts to load (windows xp) the screen look perfectly fine.

The dashes are even there if I go into setup. After windows boots and it should show the logon screen instead the screen is blank (black) and the computer is totally idle. At that point I even tried putting in a cd to see what would happen and it doesn't even respond by spinning the cd. The hdd light doesn't show any activity and the only sign of life is that the laptop is getting power. I just started the extended self diagnostic test that can be accessed through the boot selection menu.
It's a dell inspiron e1705 17" wuxga, dvd burner, BT, wi-fi, 100gb hd, core duo cpu, 7900gs, 2gb 667mhz ram.
i was planning to buy xps studio 16 but i have several questions
hacked by pca
My first Question is, i heard about bios A08 update and drivers update, does this fix issues regarding crashing and heat?
Second question: which processor is the best out of the 3 i5 540 or i7 620 or i7 820 in terms of speed/low heat.
Btw i use laptops to surf the net and most work with programs such photo shop and visual studio mainly, however i need a future proof processor because i change laptops every 2 -3 years, so if i pic i7 720 or 820 will i have alot of heat issues doing what i do?
I also spend around 12 hours on my laptop daily (inspiron 1520) dont have any heating issues at all, so i hope xps studio wont be different.
Finally, is the screen impacted by the heat and can it cause serious damage when i am gaming and such??
How about xps studio 16 vs envy 15 both on core i5 or core i7 which should i go for
should i buy this cute netbook right now? the $30 discount is gonna end in Nov28. do u think dell will lower the price later? and add more color? seem like the red one is on sale in japan only, ***? i want to get green or red. should i wait? but i am afraid later dell will drop the ubuntu mini9, i want to have ubuntu on the mini. and one more question, does the mini that comes with hdd has fan?hacked by pca

Do you need to enable it, the only thing i can find in regards to it is, security purposes and i need to put a password in and then it asks me for a password on bootup

just bought dell studio 17 with t8100 processor, love this laptop but i am finding the fan is switching on and off every 2 minutes. not running anything just internet. had a sony before and fan never kicked in for ages. i am finding it distracting, i would rather have it on constantly. the room i am in is well ventilated and so is the laptop. is this a problem with laptop or is this normal? i only just switch it on and it happens straight away, no heat is coming from the case anywhere. is there away to set the settings, not using battery only mains power.

I noticed that the power connector jack was broken so I suspect part of the problem was that it was not getting good contacts. I have a new DC jack on order.
Since I now have this puppy open, The processor is an AMD Turion 64 TMDMK36HAX4CM Which tells me that this is a 2Ghz single core Turion. (for some reason when I worked on her machine before I thought it was an X2 Turion) As part of rebuilding this machine, I want to upgrade the processor.
