The status light associated with caps lock on the XPS 15 does not show when active. The keyboard backlighting as a whole works.
I have uninstalled then reinstalled the Dell Quickset package but that has made no difference. Is there a setting I am missing?
I have Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop (2005), when i press the power button the screen stays blank, nothing happens and the caps lock light flashes a few times, then the entire system shuts off.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy laptop won't boot. I press the power button, the power button lights and I hear the system fan run. Then it shuts off and the caps lock LED flashed about 20 times, then turns off if under battery power. If on AC power then the LED stays steady after flashing. Screen never turns on. Late yesterday and late today the computer started hanging. Usually a restart would fix it for a short while. But now it's dead dead. I suspected overheating so I did a bit of digging and figured out how to remove and clean the fan intake. It's was clogged up pretty good, but that hasn't fixed the problem and the laptop is now cool to touch on the bottom..

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have strange quirks with caps led indicator and brightness keys: they work just after power on, in grub menu but they cease to work after operation system boots to graphical environment.
Caps lock itself is working fine: just indicator don't light up. Brightness control itself is working also: I can configure brightness if I map other buttons. Just function keys don't work. I've tested it on opensuse 12.3 kde and gnome running 3.7 kernel: both are affected. Opensuse 12.2 with previous kernel didn't have such quirks. What causes this quirks.
I own a Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720.
Recently, out of nowhere the computer is not powering up. I plug the power cable in (without the battery) and the caps lock key's light lights up but nothing else happens.
Once I place the battery into the laptop with the power cable, the third light on the front of the laptop (below the touchpad) lights up in this sequence and keeps repeating itself:
Amber/red
Amber/red
Amber/red
Amber/red
White
Then repeats from beginning.
I have tried the usual, power discharge by making sure all power sources are removed and holding down the power button for 60secs. Tried with known-working RAM and also with an external monitor - no luck.
There are no other POST notifications that I can see, no beeps etc. Just the lights on the front which only happens when the battery is plugged in with the power cord. I cannot find anywhere in the manual what the lights mean.
My fiance has had an Inspiron 1501 for some time. Today after she put the computer to sleep, the PC would not come out of sleep mode (typical windows problem); however,
button the fan kicks on and then the screen stays black and the CAPS lock and SCROLL lock lights come on and stay illuminated. I could not find the POST code for these two lights remaining on. I've tried re-seating the processor, as well as cleaning out the heat sinks.
I'm afraid that the PC may have overheated and fried the board/processor/some component, but I wanted some advice before I began searching for a new laptop
I have a 1 year old inspiron 1520 laptop which has suddenly stopped working.
When I press the power button, the power light comes on but I don't hear a fan whirring, the battery light also comes on. The screen is totally blank and the caps lock icon continually flashes and after about a minute the computer shuts down.
This happens with the battery attached or connected to the mains.
About a week ago, the (external) screen of my dell lattitude D830 went completely black. I hadn't got a clue wat to do, so I waited a while, and when nothing happened I turned off the computer. I've been googling for a while, and found something about POST-codes here [URL] ..... apparently the video-card doesn't work anymore (If I start the computer with FN+power, Num and Caps flash, and Scroll burns permanently). Lucky for me my Dell was old, and I had recently replaced it, but I still wanted to use my old computer for rendering etcera. Would this still be possible? I have the idea that the computer doesn't boot anymore (I can't see whether that's true, since there's no screen). Would it be possible to make it boot again, so that I can use my old Dell on a network?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a inspiron 1710 It has been ok for the most part But the issue that i seem to have and bugs the heck out of me is that when i'm typing and tap the caps lock its like every thing stops and it is a few seconds then the caps lock changes to upper or lower and i have to wait for it to come back on then i can type again But i can not just tap caps and type , BUT if i have a external key board No problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem whereby it takes ages for my caps lock to go from capital letters back to normal & vice versa.
The little bag with the A coms on then you have to wait a few seconds for it to click off then you can start to type again.
I had this problem when I first got the laptop & it rectify itself but now the dreaded thing is back again, as I remember it was a problem as I remember someone mentioning something about the same problem before.
Either email or office its still the same. I am forever using the shift button to get around this problem...

I opened the laptop (Pavilion G6 2241sa) cover and saw that keyboard cable was loose. I reconnected it properly, closed the cover and switched laptop on. Now, all keys are working fine, BUT CAps Lock light is not working well. Key is functioning, but when I press it - the light come on, but as soon as I release the key - the light goes off. Light doesn't stay. Also when the actual function of caps lock is on, when I press any other key the light come on the surface of Caps lock key but it is dim.
I rechecked keyboard cable again - all is fine, but Caps lock light doesn't stay on when pressed. I do practice typing for the last 3 months for few hours each day, so I guess it also affects the life span of my keyboard.
I have an Aspire E5-411... I like many others am experiencing the same issue. A "sound" notification would not work for me. I went to the Windows 8.1 site and saw someone ask the very same question about his Acer a few months ago. The Rep. at the Windows site told him that that feature was locked and he would have to contact his OEM (in this case Acer) how this feature could be unlocked. Is this true? I need to be able to see a caps lock notification.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using this small utility for caps lock on a 5742 using W7 Pro and it works well. The 5742 doesn't have a caps lock light or indicator built into from Acer, so one have to come up with something.
This program will place a red "x" or green "check" in the taskbar letting you know if you're in caps lock and will also produce a small "beep" after a few letters typed in if in caps lock.

sony tech did a repair on my laptop and when he was done, a piece of the trim wasn't flush near the LCD hinge. To fix this, I put a drop of krazy glue under the hinge (it snaps off) on the panel above the keyboard and was able to fix the problem cleanly.
The problem is, I noticed my caps lock light no longer turns on. I have no clue when this could have happened, since it was under a couple repairs before. But, my worry is my warranty. Do you think they'll complain about replacing it if they see I had to glue a piece together? On the other hand, the light module screws into this panel so, technically they don't need to replace this panel, just the light module.
I have an HP g6-1325sa had an issue that had to replace the fan. However since then nothing will appear on the screen F12 has an orange light on and the caps lock continuously flashes every 2-3 seconds. This is not a blink code it does this continuously. So far i have tried blocking the vents and leaving the laptop running for over an hour as I heard it can be caused by dry solder joints.
I have also tried replacing the motherboard and have twice managed to get a cursor flashing on the screen however niether of these times could a normal boot happen as the HDD was disconnected on both of these occassions, the first time this happened i had just disconnected power and battery and held down power for 30 seconds, i'm guessing that was a cmos reset.
The only cause i can think of is that the processor was cooked when the fan was replaced but having already paid for another motherboard i'd like someone to confirm what it means when the caps lock blinks endlessly and if there is another way to repair it.
On they old keyboard, there was a dedicated green indicatory light on the key itself, which is missing on the keyboard. Now, I realize that the new keyboard affects all thinkpads alike, but the reason I'm posting this here is because my Thinkpad Edge (E530) has a dedicated numpad, thereby making me use the numlock much more often
I am aware of the often-suggested windows 7 software-sided fix: screen resolution > advanced settings > on screen display
However, the issue with this is that is that it groups the caps lock and numlock together. What if I want the numlock to be default on and NOT shown on-screen, but still wanted to be reminded on-screen if I [accidentally] have the caps lock on?
Is there a solution to this or is this another problem that Lenovo overlooked when upgrading the keyboard?
HP g7-1150us .....Problem started after replacement of the touch pad/mouse cover. It initially did not power on. I plugged in AC in case the battery was dead and tried again.
Then it started the continual blinking. I tried the hard reset, hitting ESC upon powerup but had no luck. The hard drive is spinning, but not seeking.
I removed the new panel, and put the old one back in and there was no change. I'm confident that I did get all the cables & connectors in correctly.
I thought I may have killed one of the memory sticks, so I tried installing just one. I do not get any of the 6 different blink sequences, it blinks slowly about 1/sec continuously.
I am using an HP Pavilion g6-1125sw laptop. The laptop is about 5 months old and 2 days ago something odd happened. Let me start from the beginning; I was changing the graphics properties of a game and when I pressed "Proceed with changes", the screen went blank but the computer was still working. So I switched it off (took the battery out) and booted again, and it went as far as to my wallpaper and I was able to view my wallpaper and all for a about minute then screen went blank again. I tried using HP advanced diagnostic tools that come up just when you boot up, but even with that the screen went blank.
The next day the laptop didn't even boot up, the fans were whirring but not the BIOS screen came up. The CAPS lock button is blinking in intervals of two, the wireless button is orange and thats it. Its been like this ever since.

I am quite bugged by the Caps Lock onscreen display, since I cannot find a way to only turn off the capslock display without turning off all displays.
This display drops my FPS from about 70 to 40 when I'm playing video games which is bugging me a lot. But I would like to keep my other displays like soundlevel and screen brightness.
And yes, I know that it is possible to keep the capslock display for only 3 seconds when turning it on too, but I want it to be not displayed at all. I have a green light on my keyboard which is good for me.
So is it possible to completely turn off the capslock display without turning off the other displays?
I have a HP Pavilion dv7-4065dx laptop with Windows 7 64 bit that will not boot up or go to the Bios screen. When the laptop is turned on, you hear the system fan start, power button light comes on, and the caps lock button starts to continually blink once every three to four seconds. The HDD activity light is also on but is solid red with no blinking. No changes have been made to the laptop and it was working perfectly fine just a few hours earlier. I have attempted the hard reset of the computer and reseating of the memory cards, but the laptop still would not boot.

When I purchased the above laptop, Windows 8 was loaded, however, due to some issues, I had to install Windows 7. Since the time, I have had the following issues:
-The CAP and NUM lock indicator is no longer operable
-The laptop is VERY slow
-When watching NETFLIX, the screen goes to sleep every 20 minutes
I have a major problem with my hp pavilion dv6-3143sa laptop.
I put it to a shop and they told me it was a motherboard/cpu problem and they couldn't source parts. I managed to get the parts. I put the motherboard first, but didn't work. I then added the cpu and put on thermal paste, but still didn't work.
My laptop will power on but I'm still getting a blinking light on the caps lock button and a black screen.
