Sep 4, 2009Is the heat overly blown out of proportion with just the 9400m(no SLI)? Is it significantly more than a m1330 with a X3100?
What is the average battery life you get with no gaming(surfing, YouTube, music, word)?
Is the vent going to pose a problem if used on a bed or non-flat surface?
Have the Latency issues been fixed with the audio completely? I've read mixed reports.
I'm thinking about this because Dell offered me a system exchange for my m1330(T7500,LED,Intel X3100,250GB) and said I would be given a SXPS 13 since m1330 is no longer being shipped.

Nov 10, 2009Apparently its a common problem on the SXPS 13 where the Ethernet adapter fails to work after the system resumes from sleep. It is caused by the NVIDIA chipset driver.
Can you check if yours is working correctly after the system resumes from Standby or sleep? If so, can you post what OS you are using? Which driver(Win 7 or Dell one)?
Dell :: Studio 15 And 1080p Screen
Oct 6, 2009I have been looking to buy a laptop for a while, and would prefer to go with an i7 model, hence I am looking at the studio 15 as Dell is the only company to have i7 laptops available in Australia. For some reason the options for inbuilt 3g and a 1600x900 screen are available on the model with the old processor but not with the i7.
The normal resolution screen will likely be too low so I am not going with that. Is 1080p on a 15" screen able to be used for word processing and general office tasks? This laptop will be an all in one - office use, multimedia and a music production laptop.
Should I go out of my way to find a 1080p 15" laptop to trial.

Aug 21, 2009I actually ordered an asus (don't hate lol) g51vx-a1 with a 15.6" LED 1080p screen, since you guys seem knowledgeable I was wondering how many manufacturers of 15.6" LED 1080p screens there were and maybe comment on the quality of them.
My asus g51vx-a1 has the AUO B156HW01 v.5 WLED LCD. It has some cheap bleeding. Here are some pictures.

Is 1280 x 800 one of the 5 resolution settings available under the Display Settings? I believe this is the lowest resolution setting where pictures are not distorted and out of proportion. Anything lower, like 1280 x 720, pictures become distorted....
Dell :: About The XPS16 1080P RGB Screen (displaying The Color White)
Jul 6, 2009I recently bought a refurbished Studio XPS 16 with the 1080P RGB screen and was very disappointed. It did not seem very bright and was unable to accurately reproduce the color 'white'.
Everything that was supposed to be white (windows explorer background, wordpad, etc) seemed blue-grayish. I ended up returning the laptop but was just wondering if this is a common issue or if I had a dud.
I would love to order another Studio XPS 16, but only want to do so if this is not a problem with all the 1080P RGB displays.

Jul 20, 2009I'm gettin a Vaio FW as a replacement to my FZ. The only question I have now is wheter I should get the Xbrite-ECO 1600x900 or the FullHD 1920x1080 screen.
Will the 1920 be too small to actually use? Also my FZ is Xbrite-Hi Color, the sharpness and contrast and colors are VERY important to me that's why I never got an ECO display. Is this 1600x900 "ECO" like all "ECOs"?? (narrower viewing angles, less vibrant colors than Hi Color and so on..)
Or are they the same screen with different resolutions only?
Dell :: XPS M1330 LED Screen Owners.
Jun 3, 2009I got a XPS m1330 with an LED screen. On low brightness, I can see dark spots across the bottom of the screen.
They are usually visible on a white background, like in "My Computer" window. So, I had my screen replaced and today the tech came out and put in a new LED. I am still having the same issue, so I am wondering if they are all like this.

Mar 16, 2010So with best buy selling the low end model for $1699.99 I'm curious if there is a resource for purchasing z series parts like the 1920 x 1080 screen from the international versions (or the $4500 US version). Even if it's a $400 service part it's still worth it.
I'd have no problem replacing the screen and likely able to see the 1600x900 on ebay for some cash. I just haven't seen a place for Sony parts
HP/Compaq :: DV6500T Screen And HDMI Out To 1080p TV Not Matching
May 17, 2009I got my dv6500t with an 8400GS card to output to my 1080p HDTV but the problem is that the image that displays on the TV is only 90% of the full image as shown on my laptop.
This is via HDMI.
I'd like the images on both laptop and HDTV to match perfectly and I've tried every combination of resolution between the TV and the laptop yet I always get the same result: a fully displayed desktop on my laptop and a cropped desktop on my HDTV.

Apr 20, 2009i just got my Studio XPS 16 in from the dell outlet. it looks perfect other then the fact that between the glass and the screen there are 2 small marks that are not dead or stuck pixels.
i have one on the upper right and the other thats right in the middle. i was wondering if there was a way of fixing this as its anyouing the heck out of me

Jun 28, 2009Does anyone's screen dim itself every now and then? I don't know if it's a defect in the screen or maybe a bug in Quickset or something else, but occasionally my screen just dims a few levels.
Quickset shows it still maxed out and lowering it a notch and raising it back up using the keyboard shortcuts makes it go back to normal.

Dell :: SXPS 1640 Weird Screen
Oct 2, 2009I have the WLED Full HD display with the 4670 card. The issue I am having is that on the right side of the screen (rightmost two inches) on a white background only on the white area you can see a faint flickering that sometimes looks like waves coming up from the upper right conner. Again, this effect is very faint, yet visible if you know about it. Is like the wind is messing up the "water" or something.
To see it/test it open IE (or notepad etc) at google and look at the right most side in the white area. It is easier to see if the screen is tilted away from you or looking from under, however, I can see it in the regular position I use.
If you have the same configuration can you please check yours if you see anything?
The problem it is not visible in an external monitor.
Dell replaced my screen in which the problem is milder than the previous screen, but it is still there.
I kinda accepted it as fact of life for the screen, however, when I update the ATI driver, during the update process the screen flickers for a second or two (goes black) and after that there is no problem until I reboot. So apparently the driver is reseting something that makes the problem go away.
I now have Win7 RTM, but the problem was present with Vista and in the Dell Diags CD (if you move the Diags window to the right). I have the A10 BIOS, the problem was also present with A8.
The screen brightness setting does not affect it.
I run a couple screen test software with a lot of patterns no additional problems there ,i.e., no distortion of the patterns, other than the above issue on a white background.
I do not mean to be picky about it, but it bugs me since my other laptops do not have this issue and now that I found that the issue can go away momentarily with the driver update/change.
Dell :: Watching Full Screen Is Choppy- SXPS 16
Jun 21, 2009So as the title indicates, i get choppy video when i try to watch some sort of online stream such as youtube or hulu in full screen view.
It's unbarebly choppy, just not as smooth as it could be.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Fullscreen viewing works fine on my XPS desktop (4 years old), so i dont think its the internet

Jan 10, 2010this is a little thing I noticed just last night, actually, about my 1640, I guess I probably didn't pay much attention to it before, but:
Most easily seen when the background is black (e.g. screen saver, boot-up, etc.), I noticed that the black in the middle is the darkest,
whereas the black on the left and right sides are slightly lighter (as if due to extra residual light from either side), and gradually smooths into the darkest of the black, of course
Dell :: SXPS 1645 Discontinuedi7-820QM No Longer Supported On SXPS
Dec 30, 2009This is interesting... a friend of mine just tried to order the SXPS with the i7-820 processor and got denied by Dell. Apparently, the 1645 has been fully discontinued, and Dell will no longer be placing the i7-820 processor in any SXPS form factor. They quoted that due to hardware and power issues as the reason behind discontinuing the 1645 (and replacing it with the 1647) and killing i7-820 support. The sales rep said the only offering will be the Studio series for the i7-820.
As a 1645 owner with the i7-820, this is kinda scary that this laptop has been discontinued this quickly as well as the offering of the 820 series chip. We ended up calling a second time, and another sales rep confirmed the same story.
Anyone get similar information from Dell on this? I'm also wondering if this is a "Dell Canada" thing...
Dell :: SXPS 16, Lid Closes, Screen Doesn't Turn Off + Battery Question
Mar 17, 2010I'm running windows 7 64bit, I got a new RGBLED screen as a replacement mid last week. Now I just realized that when I close the lid the screen isn't turning off. I've went through all of the power options and set it to "Do nothing" when closing the lid and that, for every single laptop I've owned has made the screen to shut off when closed. If I let it idle it'll dim and then shut down like it normally would during windows use. Is there a quickfix or some sort of driver needed?
Also grabbed a 9cell battery from a parts sort locally, couldn't believe they had a 9cell for $30! This thing looks brand new, but I'm suspicious that it might be some chinese fake, how can I determine if it's real? It only have 1.0% of wear on it according to HWiNFO32.

The other day I played a 720p mkv file via HDMI output to a tv, with no problems, picture/sound was fine.
I then tried 1080p output of another video file, via HDMI to the same tv. This tv has a native resolution of 1680 x 1050 and I know that this is not full HD (1080p) which is the resolution of the video I was trying to watch but if I recall the display settings on my laptop were set to 1080p... The video was unwatchable and choppy, pixelated and skipped a lot.
I then tried the same video via VGA with slightly better results, running this time at the natvie resolution of the tv (1680 x 1050). The video was less pixellated but still skipped, enough to make it unwatchable.
I have eliminated the cheap (£3.50!) HDMI cable as the VGA cable was also similar in quality.
My question is this:
Is this poor quality simply due to the fact that my GPU cannot handle pumping out 1080p via hdmi/vga output to a TV? (it plays fine on my laptop's native resolution of 1200x800, although clearly that is not 1080p so it seems that the GPU can handle it?) If the GPU cannot handle it then I am dissapointed as I assumed when purchasing a laptop with a HDMI port that I could output full HD videos to my televsion.
On the other hand if I purchase this new monitor that supports full 1080p HD will the video play ok? In other words, is it the my televison, and not my laptop that is the problem; surely the GPU works just as hard to play the video regardless of what the display output is?

Mar 7, 2010so ive got a 1640xps, and it cant handle 1080p for .. im trying to watch Life E01 BluRay BBC 1080p x264 H@M i get nothing but lags/freezes this shouldnt be happening.. im using VLC to play it. nothing else is open when i play it, i have laptop set to high performance and its plugged in. all drivers are newest to my knowledge.

It makes the middle to bottom portion of the screen to be washed out looking on any dark images? Pretty much the same as any cheap besbuy notebook .....

It's a beautiful screen, just bright... The colors seem like they are highlighted, and not natural.

However, I'm pondering the screen size. 1080p on WLED is only £10 more expensive than 720p; but I'm wondering if it's worth it. I mean, 141DPI is massive over the 97DPI on the 720p panel, but can one see such small and finer detail on a relatively small screen? .....
