View 4 RepliesIve got a dell inspiron 1525, ive replaced the internal wifi card with an atheros based wireless card. But i was now wondering if it was possible to put the original wireless card back in aswell.
The laptop has 3 mini pci-e slots under the cover on the back but the ones remaining had wan and u?? writen on them, but i did not know if the writing was to help less computer senced people
how many sticks of RAM a VAIO SR could hold.
I'm thinking about purchasing an SR with 3 GB (1x1GB + 1x2GB) and just add another 1GB stick (a friend mis-purchased a laptop RAM thinking its a desktop RAM and gave it to me).
However, I'm not sure if there's room in the notebook to insert one more RAM.
The tech specs page lists
Internal Card Slots
2 Mini-Card
1 Half Mini-Card
2 Full Mini-Card
What are these all for?
What are they already taken up by (as in, what's already occupying these spaces?)
Today I was going through the online documentation of my Dell XPS 1530 laptop and found that there are various slots and mini cards in it ,some of which are lying unused .
Some good techie person please kindly answer my following queries :
1) SIM Card slot :What is this slot and how to use it ?Is this SIM slot included in all XPS 1530 laptops when delivered ?
2)Wireless Mini Cards :What is difference between WLAN,UWB and WWAN ?Which of these technology is present in India ?
If none, then which of these technologies is likely to hit Indian market first ?Which of the above technologies is the best ?
3) FCM :What is Flash Card Module ?
I was doing some reading on the Inspiron Mini 9 and I understand that it uses a solid state drive in the form of a PCI-e card.
My question is, since the Mini 9 has three PCI-e slots, can you place an additional SSD in it? If you have the wireless LAN then the only other slot available is the Half mini.
I did some browsing and there are Half mini SSD's available. If one had an 8GB SSD could they purchase a 32GB for an 8GB+32GB configuration?
anyone added 4x2GB dimms into this machine and how did it go was it full stable etc ?

Is there 2 slots for another hard drive? If so is it easy to open it up to put another in?
Another question is, I have 4gb ram but it seems 1GB is being shared for the video memory, it already has 512mb dedicated which is plenty for me (its the 9600GT card), how do I unshare it? There seems to be no option at all in the bios.
One final question, what is the max ram this laptop is allowed?
I got myself a x240 recently. 500gb normal drive with 16gb ssd. My plan is to upgrade from 16gb ssd to a much bigger and run operation system from that one.Â
What slot is the 16gb cache ssd in today? Which slot type is is, mSata or M.2?Â
Do the ssd got to have a certain mesures to fit?
Does the onboard card reader in my my 13-p111 nr X2 notebook (Win 8.1) support SDXC cards in one or both slots (standard and micro)?  Win 8.1 supports the file system, but my 64GB micro sd card is not being recognized in the onboard slot, making me think that the card reader hardware may not support that format.  If the onboard reader does not , should the notebook still recognize a 64GB SDXC card in a USB card reader stick? Â
Â
I've looked in the service manual for this X2 notebook and it is not specific about SD 0r SDHC or SDXC support. Â Where can I find detailed system specs for this machine?
i bought a AT&T wireless usb plug that fits perfectly and works great...Then i bought the highly rated logitech vx nano wireless mouse which comes with a tiny usb plug which could be left in the usb slot...So whats the problem?? both devices cant fit at the same time [/i][/b]on the laptop becuase there is not enough space for the both usb plugs to be occupied. Is there a solution to this?? Are there any adapters that I can use which will allow either one (Preferably the ATT wireless) to be plugged into another slot on the Macpro?

View 5 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone have a good way to OC this laptop other than using ClockGen? I am basically wondering if there is a BIOS option. I know there are some OC guides out there, but this laptop is almost 3 years old, and as far as I can tell does not have an option in the BIOS. Also, my proc is the T2600, not the one is this review, but other than that exactly the same. I am looking to play around with this because it is old and I dont care too much if I fry it since my new hotness is on the way.

I'm using Vista Home Premium 64 bit.
By the looks of the bottom of my laptop it seems it might be mxm compatible as there are lots of removable pieces... including one that looks alot like an mxm slot. I know that this laptop can be configured to come with the 9200m. This is a fairly brand new model but could someone tell me whether this thin is mxm compatible?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIve just about had it with Vista on my laptop and want to try a new OS before I junk this thing. Is anyone running Win7 or Ubuntu on a HP DV5z AMD 64 bit laptop? The machine is about a year old and I have 4gb of RAM and the thing is a dog. Ive used Ubuntu in the past on Dell laptops and its a pain to get everything running wireless drivers, flash, etc. Win7 being a RC may or may not have everything up to speed on for my machine.
So, if you have Win7 or Ubuntu on a HP DV5z please give me a shout, good or bad.

Other than 17 vs 16 inch screen are their any benefits to build quality from 1 to the other?
I will be travelling so I would prefer the lesser HDX 16 incher but build quality is a concern
I travel by plane, train, bus every weekend so it needs to be able to handle a little beating
I'm am deciding whether to buy this laptop for school use. It has a great size, stylish, and decent specs for a laptop that is so lightweight. The only turn off is that it was made for entertainment, but should this laptop do well for word processing, spreadsheets, and web surfing?
Would the 9 cell battery last for more than 5-6 hours? My budget is also under 700$ but it can stretch a little.
i am looking to get the hp hdx 16t and was wondering if there is any bg difference between getting the 2.53 (P9400 i think) or the 2.66 processor? Is it worth the upgrade or no?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm heading off to school, and these stylish, affordable notebooks have caught my eyes. The only problem is that I only get 2-3 hours of battery life on these notebooks although I can buy an extra battery. What I"m mainly doing is word processing, spreadsheets, iTunes, and web browsing but not all at the same time.
Here are my main questions and concerns:
Do these notebooks have good build quality? Is there any other way to charge the battery without having it in the notebook?Do they get hot?
I may have more questions to ask later.
I am buying this notebook in Canada.
Seeing that the battery tests I've seen on some reviews, they are surfing the internet with Wi-Fi on. I will not be, I'll usually be word processing. Should it last maybe 3 hours?
How long does the 9 cell last on the DV3?
I own a DV7-1038CA, I actually decided to buy it after reading what people said about the DV7s on this forum. Unfortunately I have a problem .
I had opened up my DV7 to clean out the fan ( ****load of dust in there) and took the whole laptop apart. I put it back together and it worked perfectly fine for about 10 hours. The laptop worked great until I dropped it down on my table at a height of about 1 1/2 inches, not a significant height but the screen immediately turned white and the laptop shut off completely. It would not turn on at all, the power light would blink for less than a second and turn off and then I'd have to wait 30 seconds before I could get it to blink again.
I then took the laptop apart again and this time I checked if everything was plugged in properly. I decided to leave the unnecessary covers off so I could turn it on without having to screw it all back on, it turned for about 3 seconds....before I noticed the display cable to my screen was on the heat sink and had caught fire. I immediately turned it off but the damage had already been done, the fire had burnt through the wiring on the inside of the cable rendering my screen useless ( whenever it was plugged the charging light on the side of the laptop would turn off). At this point the laptop was turning on but would turn off after about 5 seconds (probably due to the fact that there was no screen) During this little fiasco I had ripped off the ZIF cable that connects the power button board to the Motherboard. So now I had no way to turn my laptop on, I ordered a new screen and a new power button board.......
Looked at the HP DV6 today at circuit while browsing liquidation sales. Looks like a nice laptop. 16inch screen is nice, looks like less vertical screen but web pages look nice. Just a DV5 with a bigger screen?
View 8 Replies View Relatedi sent my laptop (Dv6000) in for repair.
I get it back with a messed up ram stick, a chipped battery and a size bezel that is not installed correctly and has a broken plastic snap...
I'm calling them right now and going to demand replacements, but idk if they are even going to do any thing...
With external monitor hooked up it looks perfect .. this is what the screen on laptop looks like now . I only checked to make sure things were plugged in on the lcd . Inverter or maybe cable ?
