View 10 RepliesI own Vaio VGN-CR14GN.
I am having heating issues, it gets so much i can't even put it on my lap it burns like fire. And can i upgrade my vaio.
I have
Intel Core 2 Duo T7100
DVD +-RW/+-R DL/RAM Drive ( Don't read or write anything now)
ATI Radeon X2300
2GB RAM ( Each Slot 1GB)
My question is can i upgrade cpu, ram, gpu
If i can what ram will get operated 1066 or 1333 or 800 mhz
I recently received my Hp dv4t. Its cool but has below mentioned problems.
1) Wireless connectivity disappears after 1 min. I have to manually restart network connection.
2) CPU fan always remains on. HP has by default set it to "always on" in BIOS. I know they had some issues earlier with heating so as work around they introduced this Hack. Is same issue with this laptop too?
3) HDD is getting very hot. Much hotter compared to my dell studio laptop. Is this normal or shall I ask for some specific manufacturer harddisk in replacement?
4) display is not fitting in screen. Display leaves 4cm space on bottom and right edge. Is there any way to manually adjust display like the one monitor or other laptop manufacturers provide? I have asked for replacement of whole laptop at present
I'm having an issue displaying a picture properly on my Vizio 720p 26" LCD via HDMI. No matter what resolution, the desktop extends beyond the border of the screen as my mouse will move past it into the area I can't see, and the screen doesn't scroll like it normally would in windows when the resolution is set too high. The NVIDIA control panel can't even get the 720p option to display properly.
View 6 Replies View Relatedi just purchased a Bronze DV4-1220us from Micro Center for 584.99
I currently has the AMD Turion X2 Dual core RM-72
And the ATI Radeon 3200 Installed
The Problem is when i play wow on my laptop the top left corner gets really hot and the fan blows forever even after the game is closed
My question is should I return this model and order the DV3 or DV4 on the hp Website with the GeForce 105M card will the laptop run cooler a bit and is the upgrade worth the extra 300 dollars for my order.
When i plug the laptop in the charging light flashes on & off. It's not the power outlet, i tried more than one. How can i tell if it's the brick or the laptop that's causing the problem?
View 4 Replies View Relatedif any of you dv4t owners have run into the same issue trying to replace your hard drive... I opened the hard drive cover, removed the 3 screws holding the drive in place, and tried pulling up on the metal tab (the one facing the inside of the notebook) but couldn't get the drive free... I've been struggling to get the drive out for awhile now without any luck. Out of desperation I used a pair of pliers to try and get a better grip on the tab, but all I ended up doing was bending the outer casing (not the drive) slightly. It's like it glued in there or something!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought a esata cable from newegg, but it doesn't seem to work with my new dv4t. It has the same transfer speed as my usb. Is there anything I can check or update a driver. And what about AHCI?

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy wife spilled Mt Dew on here laptop (hp dv4t), all over the keyboard, I quickly grabbed it, and help the power button to shut it down, turned it upside down and let the pop drain out, let it sit for a few days, and now it works fine... Except... Half the keyboard is now sticking, Im wondering if the whole keyboard will pop off in one piece, or if the indivizual keys pop off easily enough.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI understand that the dv4t has heat issues, but is 77 degrees Celsius normal for the GPU? The HD hovers at 60 as well. CPU temps are in the 30s at idle and 40s under load.
I've already had the laptop serviced once for heat issues, but they've returned.

Following my brief yet impressive experience with the budget HP dv4-1225dx notebook back in February, I wanted to revisit this model to see just what it was capable of in a more potent configuration. Welcome the new HP dv4t-1300 series CTO model, available directly from HP.
PROS: LED screen, styling, 12-cell battery, smart bay hard drive, gaming performance
CONS: Heat and noise, poor speakers, no firewire
DETAILS:
In early March of this year HP did a slight refresh of their dv4 lineup. Gone unfortunately is the bronze/chrome color scheme that I was such a big fan of, but in place HP now offers a glossy black and, what they call, moonlight white color scheme.
Something has me thinking someone at HP wants to mimic that "other" black and white notebook maker. Like it or not, if you want a notebook from HP now it's going to be either an all black or white unit - no bronze, no silver - so get used to it. The specs on my unit are as follows:...............
I just received my dv4t on 04/12/2009; and my temperature specs are...

what should I do... CONTACT the customer service...ask for a RMA...?
These are two of the laptops I am looking at and I just wanted some opinions from people that own them or know about them.
What I would be getting for the two is pretty much the same thing.

My friend wanted me to reformat his .. i think it was dv4t? what are some bloatwares im looking to get rid of. And i was wondering if just going to control panel> add/remove programs was enough to get rid of them.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just did a fresh install of Vista Home Premium 64 Bit following Orev's guide. I backed up the SWSetup folder and everything went fine except a couple of things:
1.) Quickplay. I don't have the QPW & HPQPDP folders in the SWSetup folder. Does quickplay still come with DV4T's or is HP using something new? Do I need to install some other program or driver from SWSetup to get quickplay to work? Should I not even worry about it and just another player?
2.) Recovery Partition. I followed a link in another post, here at NBR, to HP's site telling me how to add quickplay from the recovery partition of the hdd. I can see the recovery partition but when I try to access it, it says it's empty. Is it possible to access it through explorer or do I have to boot from it? When I did the fresh install, I just reformated partition 1, the one with vista on it already and did nothing to the recovery partition. Is this correct?
3.) Bluetooth. After I installed bluetooth and only after the internet connection is established, the icon pops up on the system tray even though I disabled it in the startup menu and told it in the bluetooth program itself not to display the icon. Also, when the computer first boots up, it tells me bluetooth couldn't connect because of a .dll file that is missing?
4.) Scroll Slider on Touchpad. I disabled alot of things in the startup menu and now the scroll slider doesn't work. Obviously it's because of the things I disabled, but why would disabling it from startup cause it not to work? The touchpad still works fine. I followed some things in this thread and everything here. Could any of this affect the scroll slider?
5.) Recovery Manager. What happened to the recovery manager that came factory installed? Is that in the SWSetup folder?
6.) Drivers. Should I follow this thread and update all the drivers since they are all new compared to what is in my SWSetup folder?
I was looking at the HP DV4T with specs:
-Moonlight white
-Vista 64bit
-P8600 2.4Ghz or I can up it to the P8700 2.53Ghz
-4 GB Ram
-320 GB Hard Drive 5400 RPM
-512MB Nvidia GeForce G 105M
-14.1" diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP LED BrightView Widescreen (1280 x 800) LED for better battery life.
-Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
-High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
I was wondering what you all think about this set up, or if I should tweak anything with like the processor.
Also how does this laptop run in your experience. Hot or loud? What does it score on performance index with these specs if anyone has them? Are there any concerns I should know about or tips. Like does the optical drive pull out if not using to save weight or add another hard drive? Maybe even steer me to another direction if you would like.
Also I have never owned a laptop before, but my friends use an external monitor when home. What do you all think about getting one?
This laptop will be for everything, school, entertainment, causal games.
I was wondering if we can give some more juice to p8400 on a dv4t?
I believe there is no volt/mhz change menu on the bios.
so it should be a software, right?
My hp.com customized dv4t arrived this morning and I have already managed to create a problem. I attempted to stick the media center remote into the eSata(or w.e) slot and I managed to push it in all the way, but now it is stuck. This isn't a problem as I probably will never use the remote, but it will be a pet peeve for a long time. Is there anyway to remove it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've read some threads that the HP DV4T can have up to 8GB memory, but the spec on the HP website says that 4GB is max. So can I upgrade the DV4t to 6GB or 8GB memory? Will they be recognized?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got my new HP dv4t in the mail from costco. I was wondering are there anyways to do a clean install and get all the bloatware/junkware out of the system?it didn't come with a CD for vista or any OS.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just got a dv4t shipped from hp with 2.53 gigahertz, 4 gigs ram, and integrated graphics and I seem to be having a problem. After about half an hour to 40 minutes of talking on skype with video, with firefox and maybe a folder or two open, aero enabled, opening just one more app that isn't even too processor intensive such as the task manager or device manager, I suddenly get a message stating aero needs to shut off and my webcam stops working. The only way to fix it seems to be to shut down skype. After I do that everything is restored.

Bought a very costly HP laptop around Sep 08
Experienced heating problems from around Dec 08.
Dealt with their customer care to get it returned or replaced in Jan – but they simply would do nothing for it.
Heating problem as got worse. It turned off due to over heating with just windows and 2 windows of Firefox and a streaming video.
Trying to understand the options I have now. So people who have had similar experience with HP customer care, PLEASE tell what can I do now.
Reading the expanded version below will give a lot more insight to my problem.

View 5 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone have experience with the dv4t Special Edition?
I've been researching pretty hard for a while now, as I'm getting a laptop as a graduation present, and I keep coming back to this one. I really like the specs on it (4gb RAM + 400gb hard drive) since I do a lot of digital art and photography work, and even small things like the memory card reader. The estimated battery life is good, and most of the reviews I can find have been positive.
I was just wondering if you guys had any extra input on this- I've seen the dv4 owner's lounge, but the Special Edition seems like a fairly different computer. I want to be absolutely sure I'm making the right decision!
Oh, and Best Buy seems to have a much better deal than the HP site right now. Does this look good, or is there anything crucial I'm missing that I'd be better off custom ordering for?
Also, Windows 7. Presumably I will want to upgrade to this when it comes out. Are there any future upgrade offers I should be aware of? I seem to recall reading something about this, but I don't remember exactly what.
After three stripped screws and re-applying the thermal paste three times, I am now happy with upgrading to t9900 from t9950. Idle temps are just a few degrees higher then the t9550. Load temps are higher too. My gpu temps are now the same as before which is a miracle since there is only one heat-pipe and fan cooling everything (cpu, gpu, and chipset). Was it worth it? Yea, the upgrade gave me a great experience with my laptop. I can now open my laptop without looking at any documentation
Here are the pictures:
My HP DV4T laptop is still under first year limited warranty.
I suddenly saw the screen broke (dont remember of any accident)
can it be repaired/covered under limited warranty?
i just accidentally dropped my laptop a few hours ago but it is still working fine. i think the accelerometer came on and stopped the hard drive. but there are a few scratches and looks like small cracks on the cover of the laptop? i really want to change it out without sending it off to HP. are there any sites that sell parts for this laptop?
View 10 Replies View RelatedLooking at the HP site these days, the dv3t gives you free 320GB HDD, Included LED display (at 1280x800), and long battery life.
The dv4t has only a free 250GB, extra $60 for LED, less battery life, and costs nearly the same (Infact, only $20 less for the same specs asthe dv3t).
Why SHOULDNT I get the dv3t? I'm in the market for a small, light PC with 512MB Discreet graphics and something around 2.2-2.4GHZ Intel. Seems like dv3t is the no brainer. Considering smaller computers tend to be more expensive it surprises me that HP offer more free upgrades on the dv3t than on the dv4t.
I bought a DV4T (T5800) during black Friday last November. Lately it is unstable. The GPU randomly crashes and the fan is louder than when I first bought it. When I put my hand near the fan outlet it doesn't seem to be moving much air even at high speeds.
So I decided to try undervolting. In the process of undervolting I found out that the CPU is hitting its thermal barrier when I run a prime95 torture test (in place FFT's). It hits 85C and the thermal throttling kicks in. This is AFTER I lowered the voltage mind you.
I am just looking for confirmation of my suspicions. I emailed HP tech support, do you think they will give me a hard time with an RMA?
Anyone else have probs with their DV4T and heat?
