HP/Compaq :: HP Pavillion Dv9000-wireless Has Been Cutting In And Out And Sometimes Takes About A Half Hour To An Hour To Be Able To Connect Again

Mar 9, 2009

For a while now, my wireless has been cutting in and out and sometimes takes about a half hour to an hour to be able to connect again. Other laptops in the house connect to the same internet connection just fine. I met a girl last night who was saying how her internet wont connect anymore and she had the same laptop as me so I'm assuming its the computer and not the internet.

even before this issue though, the wireless networks window, when you click on the two computers to see the different connections, it always freezes to a white window to begin with and will take up til an hour to actually show the different connections.

This problem is incredibly annoying and i just want a solid internet connection without it cutting out .

Dell :: Regular Cell Battery Only Lasts About An Hour Or An Hour Or 15 Max?

Jan 31, 2009

i was just wondering about a couple of things about my d630 and see if i am out to lunch or is there something wrong with my laptop?

1. The Fan, the fan seems to run on full throttle all of the time. i used to have d800 and it will never did that. Its not like it does it when its hot or needs power, but the fan runs at full speed all of the time? is this ok?

2. Battery life - may be due to the fan, but my regular cell battery only lasts about an hour or an hour or 15 max? is this normal .....

Dell :: Inspiron 1521, Runs For Half An Hour, Then Shuts Off

Mar 30, 2009

Long time no see! I'm about to grab a Inspiron 1521 for $100, the problem is in the title. Run's fine, for a half an hour then shuts off.

My assumption is the maximum problems could be:

- Fans not working, resulting in an overheating: hence shutdown at max temp.

- Heatsinks or thermal compound issues, resulting in an overheating: hence shutdown at max temp.

- Rare possibility that it has a cold solder somewhere located in the mobo: hence shutdown after 30 minutes of running, generated heat build up .....

Acer Aspire E1-572 :: Takes 1 Hour For Boot Screen To Appear

Mar 3, 2015

My Aspire E1-572 suffers somewhat of the dreaded black screen of death. The computer needs about an hour to start, but when windows finally is loaded, it works like a charm.The "F2 for bios screen" takes about an hour to load.I have done a Acer factory reset.Tested the WD-hard disk - No faults, I've run memtest86 - No errors. I've tried to update the bios from Acer's download section, but all I get is error. Like I said, the computer works like a charm, only it takes about an hour for start up.

Acer Aspire V5-122p :: Won't Turn On When Put In Hibernate With About Half An Hour Battery

Jan 23, 2015

Last night I was using my laptop and it had about an hour of battery left when I put it in hibernate. Today, I tried to turn it on and absolutely nothing happened at all.

I tried taking the battery out, hard drive out, and the CMOS button battery out and leaving it for about half an hour. Put it back together again and nothing. I've had it plugged in for a while and the charge light is on, but it's not turning on still...

Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: W530 - Battery Failure / Lasts No More Than About Half An Hour

Aug 21, 2014

I have a W530 that is about 7 months old, and the battery, which used to sustain for 4-5 hours with moderate use of the computer, all of a sudden lasts no more than about half an hour. It was not a gradual change, but more overnight. When I look at the power manager, I note the full charge capacity of 10.23 Wh, which is extremely low for a battery that is only 7-8 months old. What would cause such a dramatic reduction in battery capacity in a matter of days, when I did not use the computer differently, or is my battery simply defective?

HP/Compaq :: Pavillion Dv9000 Optical Drive

May 10, 2010

when I was replacing my optical drive, I managed to tilt it upside down and several springs fell out. I have no clue where they came from specifically, other than knowing they have something to do with the sliding brackets on the sides.

I've searched frantically for a service manual on my optical drive to fix this problem, but I can't seem to find anything.

The drive in question is:
DVDRW/R and CD-RW Double-Layer Combo Drive with LightScribe

Part number (from the dv9000 service manual):

HP/Compaq :: HP Pavillion DV9000 Fried Card

May 12, 2010

I know the DV9000 has problems. I've had the laptop for 3.5yrs and at the end of last yr it died on me. I tried to find out the problem and eventually figured it was the overheating and badly manufactured design as so many other people with this laptop found. Even took it in for a fault assessment and they told me that the integrated graphics card was probably fried.

Thing is, the other day I bought a screwdriver set and decided to open up the laptop and take a look around and boot it up again and now I'm having second thoughts.

Firstly, if it was the graphic card that was fried, surely the hdd would still boot into windows? When I turn on the laptop, the screen goes grey / lights up (as it normally did when the laptop was working) but nothing much happens after that. I dont hear the hdd booting up and nothing really happens. All I hear is the fan working and eventually after 20min of nothing happening I just pulled the power cable out.

So I tried taking out the hdd and booting up. Nothing comes up on the display and nothing happens. Even if the hdd is out, should any sort of display come up? like surely the BIOS or even a screen saying "no hdd detected" should come up?

If it is the graphics card that is fried, does that mean that if I plug a secondary monitor into the monitor port on the laptop, it shouldnt display anything should it? or does the extra monitor port on the laptop run through a different circuit system than the main LCD screen on the laptop?

HP/Compaq :: Vertical Lines- Pavillion DV9000

May 13, 2009

My friend brought his laptop over and I'm trying to help him sort everything out. I think the problem might be due do a dying graphics card or bad memory.

Basically on the load up screen for Windows, there are groups of white dotted vertical lines spread evenly across the screen. This also happens when in CMOS. Everything seems fine on the desktop in safe mode, so I'm not sure whats wrong.

Here's an example... I used MS paint to make a picture to emulate the problem.

the lines go through the windows logo..

Dell :: 2 New M1330's, One's Dead After 1 Hour Of Use

Sep 16, 2008

So I ordered 2 of these fine laptops, one with the NVIdia 8400, and one with the built in graphics. The one with the built in graphics will no longer turn on at all, it was used for at most 1 hour. Push the power button, it lights for 3-4 seconds, then goes off and you can hear a fan spin down. Holding the Fn key on start up shows all three LED's on solid, and then it shuts down after 3-4 seconds. Pulled/reseated/replaced the ram, battery, wireless, and hard drive. Dell tells me its a dead mobo. So how much should I be scared of a dead mobo after 1 hour of use? Should I let them replace it through their Next Business Day onsite service (which now they tell me will take 2 days), or just send the junk back? My 21 days ends on the 18th.

On the other M1330 with Nvidia graphics, I have not had any issues, with one exception. If I have it on, once in a while I will hear this loud creaking sound, not sure if its the keyboard or not. It sort of sounds like the sound made when you replace the CPU cover panel, so maybe something is just screwed in too tight and its thermal expansion of some sort?

Both laptops have dents in the aluminum palm rest, above the upper left corner of the trackpad. I googled for this and it seems its an over-tightened case screw, so I have backed those 2 screws out a bit hoping it will help.

I'm really not all that impressed at this point with the one laptop. A total mobo failure in 1 hour of light usage (literally just set up favorites in IE and downloaded/installed a few vista updates) seems very shoddy to me.

Dell :: 12 Hour First Impressions Of XPS 1730

Apr 29, 2008

I have ownwed a 1730 [purchased from Leee73 here] for 12 hours now, I spent a few hours downloading all the necessary drivers from Dell and installing them as it had a fresh install of Home Premium. I loaded 3D Mark 2006 and ran it with slightly underwheling results [12000 marks] But I do know that Vista and some drivers dont do well in that benchmark. I loaded Crysis, R6 Vegas2, GRAW2 and UT3 and I must say that this machine totally rocks. Every game is maxed out in screen resolution and still pulls playable framerates. The image quality is mind blowing. The Logitech LCD is fun in a bunch of ways. Ya this is a desktop replacement, but definatly ultra portable compared to lugging a tower to a lan party or on a camping trip. The I/O ports are all laid out well. THe one thing thays missing is a fingerprint scanner. Imagine going to the toilet at a lanparty, you could simply lock your computer with the swipr of a finger so jealous competitors cant go mess with your regidstry. The webcam is a must along with the microphones [although I have no use for them at the moment] The speakers sound crisp and clear and I hear sounds in games that I previously have never heard on my Quad core 3870 Xfired 1066ram raid powered desktop. I also own a 1710 and anyone who compares these machines simply has no idea what there talking about. I really like my 7900GTX powered 1710, but its no 1730 when it comes to flat out image quality and overall performance.

The 1730 could use some beefed up ram as thats the only thing holding back the Windows experience index to a 5.0. I got a great deal on my 1730, I would buy one new from Dell if a smokin deal came along like when I bought my 1710, but I am too cheap to pay full retail. If you were thing on buying a 1730 but had read others complain, dont listen to them, Its an awesome gaming rig, and even though guys with single 8800s in their laptops can brag of simular 3D Amrk scores, you can rest assured that they would have bought a SLI if they could have. And they secretly deep down inside will forever remain envious.

Lenovo Yoga Flex :: 13 - Battery (60% Charged) Lasts For Only An Hour?

Feb 21, 2013

I have been using my laptop at home for the past 6 months for most of the time. When I am running the computer I have it charged with the Optimised Battery Health option, so, less than 60% is charged all the time, and I have never removed the adapter if I am using it. But, when I went to sleep I removed the adapter from the laptop.

What happened: Today finally I am taking it out for a breath and it lasts for only an hour!!!!

What was on: I was using it to do some research online only. So technically only wifi was on - not even bluetooth or video or music play. I only ran Chrome, a dictionary software, and my Dropbox. Well, I actually turned the screen into very bright, which was full brightness minus two presses of F11 (to decrease the brightness).

Would it be a cause of upgrading to WINDOWS 8.1?! (like upgrade to iOS 7 on an Apple phone: running latest iOS consumes lots more battery capacity in older iPhone..)

Dell Studio 1735 :: Died After Being In Standby Mode For An Hour

My Studio 1735 has been quite reliable, until today when I closed the lid and left it for an hour. Briefly, the button on the opposite side of the laptop from the power switch did show a white light, but that's died as well now! I removed the CMOS battery in case it was a logical problem, but it made no difference.

Dell Inspiron 3521 :: Suddenly Slowed Down After Working Fine For 30 Minutes To One Hour

Oct 31, 2014

My laptop (Dell Inspiron 15 3521 model) was working fine until this week. It suddenly slowed down.

Once I turn it on, it works fine but after 30 mins - 1hr, it begins to slow down. While I type words on my keyboard, it would take a minute or so for them to appear on screen in MS Word. My browser would also slow down in loading. When I try to close programs, they would go "NOT RESPONDING" and when I try to open programs, it would take minutes for them to open up. I also tried plugging in a flash drive and the laptop took 3 minutes to recognize it.

What caused this sudden slow down? Is it because of an update? Or does my computer need repair? I've only used it for 7 months.
