HP/Compaq :: T6400+LED Or P7450+LCD

Mar 10, 2009

I'm purchasing HP pavilion DV4t laptop. I have to take a decision.

Shall I go for T6400 processor + LED screen option
P7450 processor + Normal LCD screen option.

LED screen and T7450 processor both costs me $100 more.

I do run computing intensive tasks like Virtual Machines on my laptop as well as I need power efficient and good screen .

Dell :: Inspiron 1720 And T6400 Or T6500

Mar 31, 2010

I have an older Inspiron 1720 laptop with T5450, which is showing it's age. Based on the Intel Santa Rosa platform. I have maxed out RAM to 4Gb already. I have a chance to cheaply acquire Intel T6400 ($50) or T6500($60) CPU.

I know that 1720 supports 800FSB CPUs according to docs (officially T9500 is the fastest). What I was wondering if it will support this newer T6400/T6500 cpu...

Acer :: Aspire 8730G CPU Upgrade (C2D T6400)

Sep 8, 2009

get a 2nd hand Aspire 8730G.

Wonderful machine I might add, far superior screen saturation, contrast and colour gamut compared to the Sony, but the CPU performance difference is immdediately noticeable (almost similarly specced, the Sony had a 7200 RPM 320GB Seagate HDD, the one in the 8730G is a 320GB RPM WD Blue, and the RAM in the Sony VS 8730G is 800MHz VS 667MHz, also noticeable to me).

I plan to upgrade the RAM and HDD soon enough, no problem, but the main question lies with the CPU...

The T6400

With the latest updated BIOS for the Phoenix based BigBear2 mobo on the 8730G (if the 8930 and 8730 share a similar mobo, AFAIK, the newer 8730 and 8930 all use the PM45 based chipset), I believe it should be able to support even the Core 2 Quad processors (I need this power, I do a lot of Photoshop work, compositing, video editing and 3D rendering).

My biggest fear lies in the TDP, where the Q9100 I'm eyeing has a TDP for 45W, but the Penryn based Txxx0 family of processors has a TDP of 35W.................

Sony :: Replacing CPU In Vaio SR41 (T6400 -> P8800)

Aug 6, 2009

I'm currently thinking of buying a Sony SR series laptop, but unfortunately here in Sweden we only get two configurations:
Vaio SR49 - P8800, Radeon 3470 256MB
Vaio SR41 - T6400, Radeon 4750 512MB

Since I would like P8800+Radeon 4750, the only possible way seems to get a SR41 and upgrade the cpu. Has anyone here got any experience on upgrading a laptop CPU? More specifically, upgrading from a T-series to a P-series.

I guess they use the same motherboards, so I can't imagine it would be incompatible, but I'm wondering whether it requires any BIOS changes which would be hard to do in a laptop bios.

HP/Compaq :: How To OC This CPU

Oct 21, 2009

Does anyone have a good way to OC this laptop other than using ClockGen? I am basically wondering if there is a BIOS option. I know there are some OC guides out there, but this laptop is almost 3 years old, and as far as I can tell does not have an option in the BIOS. Also, my proc is the T2600, not the one is this review, but other than that exactly the same. I am looking to play around with this because it is old and I dont care too much if I fry it since my new hotness is on the way.

HP/Compaq :: Hp Dv2

Jul 14, 2009

I'm am deciding whether to buy this laptop for school use. It has a great size, stylish, and decent specs for a laptop that is so lightweight. The only turn off is that it was made for entertainment, but should this laptop do well for word processing, spreadsheets, and web surfing?

Would the 9 cell battery last for more than 5-6 hours? My budget is also under 700$ but it can stretch a little.

HP/Compaq :: DV2 Or DV3

Jul 29, 2009

I'm heading off to school, and these stylish, affordable notebooks have caught my eyes. The only problem is that I only get 2-3 hours of battery life on these notebooks although I can buy an extra battery. What I"m mainly doing is word processing, spreadsheets, iTunes, and web browsing but not all at the same time.

Here are my main questions and concerns:

Do these notebooks have good build quality?Is there any other way to charge the battery without having it in the notebook?Do they get hot?

I may have more questions to ask later.

I am buying this notebook in Canada.

Seeing that the battery tests I've seen on some reviews, they are surfing the internet with Wi-Fi on. I will not be, I'll usually be word processing. Should it last maybe 3 hours?

How long does the 9 cell last on the DV3?

HP/Compaq :: DV7

Oct 25, 2009

I own a DV7-1038CA, I actually decided to buy it after reading what people said about the DV7s on this forum. Unfortunately I have a problem .

I had opened up my DV7 to clean out the fan ( ****load of dust in there) and took the whole laptop apart. I put it back together and it worked perfectly fine for about 10 hours. The laptop worked great until I dropped it down on my table at a height of about 1 1/2 inches, not a significant height but the screen immediately turned white and the laptop shut off completely. It would not turn on at all, the power light would blink for less than a second and turn off and then I'd have to wait 30 seconds before I could get it to blink again.

I then took the laptop apart again and this time I checked if everything was plugged in properly. I decided to leave the unnecessary covers off so I could turn it on without having to screw it all back on, it turned for about 3 seconds....before I noticed the display cable to my screen was on the heat sink and had caught fire. I immediately turned it off but the damage had already been done, the fire had burnt through the wiring on the inside of the cable rendering my screen useless ( whenever it was plugged the charging light on the side of the laptop would turn off). At this point the laptop was turning on but would turn off after about 5 seconds (probably due to the fact that there was no screen) During this little fiasco I had ripped off the ZIF cable that connects the power button board to the Motherboard. So now I had no way to turn my laptop on, I ordered a new screen and a new power button board.......

HP/Compaq :: HDX 16, HDX 18

Oct 3, 2009

Not in a race on which is better mind you, since these two are next-of-kin. But I mean which parts will fit both? I've been looking for some upgrade parts to the HDX 18, but all I seem to find are parts rated for the HDX 16. So, save the obvious screen size difference, just how comparable are these two in parts?

The keyboards look identical; and the extended battery I found lists a match for the HDX 16 but not the HDX 18. Would there be a size difference?

HP/Compaq :: HP HDX 18t Able To Run XP

Jun 25, 2009

I was looking at getting the HP HDX 18t for my self to replace my older laptop. The only problem is the college I go to requires that the laptops you use run windows XP because some of the software they use for web design and programming classes apparently only works on XP. I looked on the HP website and they do not offer a downgrade option to XP. I also looked on the HP HDX 18t support site and they do not have XP drivers listed (except the wireless card and finger print scanner drivers).

So I was wondering if the HP HDX 18t supports Windows XP has anyone who owns this laptop ever downgraded it to XP succesfull before?

I don't mind Installing XP from scatch or setting up a dual boot with Vista but I'm just worried about buying the laptop and not being able to Run Windows XP.

Link to the laptop I was looking at.
