graphics/processor/ram... ?
These are terrific little computers, with the brilliant LED screen, small size and light weight, DVD/CD recorder/player, 54mm slot for the Mogomouse,
slots for SD and Memory Stick, and a true five hour battery life. It is almost powerful enough to do mild graphics such as Google Sketchup, Irfanview, etc.
We have installed XP and removed everything unnecessary - hopefully without losing something important. Memory is max'd at 1.5GB. The processor is a U1500 single-core, at 1.33GHz
I ordered this Dell laptop a few days ago, and was wondering just how powerful it really is? ...

View 5 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone have a good way to OC this laptop other than using ClockGen? I am basically wondering if there is a BIOS option. I know there are some OC guides out there, but this laptop is almost 3 years old, and as far as I can tell does not have an option in the BIOS. Also, my proc is the T2600, not the one is this review, but other than that exactly the same. I am looking to play around with this because it is old and I dont care too much if I fry it since my new hotness is on the way.

I'm using Vista Home Premium 64 bit.
By the looks of the bottom of my laptop it seems it might be mxm compatible as there are lots of removable pieces... including one that looks alot like an mxm slot. I know that this laptop can be configured to come with the 9200m. This is a fairly brand new model but could someone tell me whether this thin is mxm compatible?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIve just about had it with Vista on my laptop and want to try a new OS before I junk this thing. Is anyone running Win7 or Ubuntu on a HP DV5z AMD 64 bit laptop? The machine is about a year old and I have 4gb of RAM and the thing is a dog. Ive used Ubuntu in the past on Dell laptops and its a pain to get everything running wireless drivers, flash, etc. Win7 being a RC may or may not have everything up to speed on for my machine.
So, if you have Win7 or Ubuntu on a HP DV5z please give me a shout, good or bad.

Other than 17 vs 16 inch screen are their any benefits to build quality from 1 to the other?
I will be travelling so I would prefer the lesser HDX 16 incher but build quality is a concern
I travel by plane, train, bus every weekend so it needs to be able to handle a little beating
I'm am deciding whether to buy this laptop for school use. It has a great size, stylish, and decent specs for a laptop that is so lightweight. The only turn off is that it was made for entertainment, but should this laptop do well for word processing, spreadsheets, and web surfing?
Would the 9 cell battery last for more than 5-6 hours? My budget is also under 700$ but it can stretch a little.
i am looking to get the hp hdx 16t and was wondering if there is any bg difference between getting the 2.53 (P9400 i think) or the 2.66 processor? Is it worth the upgrade or no?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm heading off to school, and these stylish, affordable notebooks have caught my eyes. The only problem is that I only get 2-3 hours of battery life on these notebooks although I can buy an extra battery. What I"m mainly doing is word processing, spreadsheets, iTunes, and web browsing but not all at the same time.
Here are my main questions and concerns:
Do these notebooks have good build quality? Is there any other way to charge the battery without having it in the notebook?Do they get hot?
I may have more questions to ask later.
I am buying this notebook in Canada.
Seeing that the battery tests I've seen on some reviews, they are surfing the internet with Wi-Fi on. I will not be, I'll usually be word processing. Should it last maybe 3 hours?
How long does the 9 cell last on the DV3?
I own a DV7-1038CA, I actually decided to buy it after reading what people said about the DV7s on this forum. Unfortunately I have a problem .
I had opened up my DV7 to clean out the fan ( ****load of dust in there) and took the whole laptop apart. I put it back together and it worked perfectly fine for about 10 hours. The laptop worked great until I dropped it down on my table at a height of about 1 1/2 inches, not a significant height but the screen immediately turned white and the laptop shut off completely. It would not turn on at all, the power light would blink for less than a second and turn off and then I'd have to wait 30 seconds before I could get it to blink again.
I then took the laptop apart again and this time I checked if everything was plugged in properly. I decided to leave the unnecessary covers off so I could turn it on without having to screw it all back on, it turned for about 3 seconds....before I noticed the display cable to my screen was on the heat sink and had caught fire. I immediately turned it off but the damage had already been done, the fire had burnt through the wiring on the inside of the cable rendering my screen useless ( whenever it was plugged the charging light on the side of the laptop would turn off). At this point the laptop was turning on but would turn off after about 5 seconds (probably due to the fact that there was no screen) During this little fiasco I had ripped off the ZIF cable that connects the power button board to the Motherboard. So now I had no way to turn my laptop on, I ordered a new screen and a new power button board.......
Looked at the HP DV6 today at circuit while browsing liquidation sales. Looks like a nice laptop. 16inch screen is nice, looks like less vertical screen but web pages look nice. Just a DV5 with a bigger screen?
View 8 Replies View Relatedi sent my laptop (Dv6000) in for repair.
I get it back with a messed up ram stick, a chipped battery and a size bezel that is not installed correctly and has a broken plastic snap...
I'm calling them right now and going to demand replacements, but idk if they are even going to do any thing...
With external monitor hooked up it looks perfect .. this is what the screen on laptop looks like now . I only checked to make sure things were plugged in on the lcd . Inverter or maybe cable ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedNot in a race on which is better mind you, since these two are next-of-kin. But I mean which parts will fit both? I've been looking for some upgrade parts to the HDX 18, but all I seem to find are parts rated for the HDX 16. So, save the obvious screen size difference, just how comparable are these two in parts?
The keyboards look identical; and the extended battery I found lists a match for the HDX 16 but not the HDX 18. Would there be a size difference?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI was looking at getting the HP HDX 18t for my self to replace my older laptop. The only problem is the college I go to requires that the laptops you use run windows XP because some of the software they use for web design and programming classes apparently only works on XP. I looked on the HP website and they do not offer a downgrade option to XP. I also looked on the HP HDX 18t support site and they do not have XP drivers listed (except the wireless card and finger print scanner drivers).
So I was wondering if the HP HDX 18t supports Windows XP has anyone who owns this laptop ever downgraded it to XP succesfull before?
I don't mind Installing XP from scatch or setting up a dual boot with Vista but I'm just worried about buying the laptop and not being able to Run Windows XP.
Link to the laptop I was looking at.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy DV6 (see in sig) has an AMD Turion Ultra in it and everybody knows that they run real warm, even when I use HP recommended "power setting".
Anyway, undervolting is an option, there is a few free apps that can help doing it. BUT!
My Laptop is only 6 months old, so it's under warranty.
I contacted HP and they seem willing to initiate an RMA.
My Lappy's CPU runs at around 90 degrees celsius after 5 minutes of gaming (COD5).
Running 3DMARKS06 has the same effect...89-92 celsius, USING a laptop cooler, and there is NO dust whatsoever on the fins/exhaust/intake vents...
I know I could open it, reapply thermal paste (I have some Arctic Cooling MX2 laying around)..
