HP/Compaq :: Dv3t Sound Is Pretty Weak
Sep 28, 2009
Friend got a couple weeks old dv3t with P7350 and Intel graphics. Even though it has SRS feature, still sound totally sucks. I cant beleive how quite the speakers are. Even at full volume, you have to be pretty close to notebook in order to listen clearly, unlike my dv6700t, which fills the room with not high quality, but decent enough sound - both volume and quality wise. and it get so hot while playing a little game on it, that the side grill almost gave me burn today. What do you guys with dv3t feel about sound and heat issues? Do you find it weak too, or my friend's dv3t has something wrong in it?

the actual model number is ZD8000
My friends HP computer basically just melted in parts due to the massive heat generated.
I know the Pavilion ZD8000 is quite an infamous machine for overheating but is this common throughout the HP line?

I recently got my HP Envy 15 in the mail a few days ago and I have to say I’m very happy with it. However, I have run into some setbacks.
The most major one is the wireless. Out of the box it was only getting 180 mbps of wireless N speed, which I knew was way to slow. After digging around the device manager I found that the 2.4 ghz frequency was set to 20 mhz and not auto. After setting it to auto I got 300 mbps, much better.
But heres the big issue. While it does get 300 mbps of speed while only a few yards away from the router, once I leave my room and walk away about 40 or less feet to the dinning room, the speed takes a HUGE nose dive, getting to around 20 to 12 mpbs of wireless internet speed. However, the signal quality is ‘good or fair’, meaning 3 out of 5 green bars. When I go to the living room, about 60 feet from the router, it goes down to 1.0 mbps wireless speed, with 2 out of five bars signal quality. Sometimes however, I can’t get any speed and it disconnects...................

i already have the dv2 an i really like it so far. battery life could be a lot better but eh. not that big of a deal. i ordered the dv3t today for some more power and integrated optical drive. my question is do i really need it?
i use my computer for
itunes
aim
internet
word
i know with all those up the dv3t will outperform this one but buy how much? is it really worth all the work to be trading it back in and paying some more money? i really like the sleekness of the dv2. lastly how much will a clean install help the dv2?

I was pretty much set on the xps m1330, but after hearing about some issues with the GPU in the long run, I've been looking at the HP DV3T, but I can't find any professional reviews on it. At Notebookreview there's a lengthy discussion, but that's about it.

I'm pretty much ready to order the HP DV3T notebook, but one thing that confuses me is the processor. I want a very fast processor, so initially i was going to get the Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9550 (2.66 GHz). However, i did some research and i found that the P series processors are more efficient than the older T series, thus using less power and have a faster FSB. The next fastest P series processor you can get with the DV3T is the Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8700 (2.53GHz). I went on Intel's website, and if I read correctly, the P8700 and the T9550 are both 45nm, and have the same FSB (1066Mhz). However, the P8700 has 3mb L2 cache, and the T9550 has 6mb L2 cache.

Basically what im asking is what processor is the better one? Money isn't a factor, so I just want the better processor. All these numbers are confusing me, and i dont know what exactly i should be getting here.

I just got my DV3T. I noticed that the cooling pad I currently have will not work with this laptop since it sucks air from under the laptop, while the DV3T sucks the air from under the laptop and blows it out the side.
So are there any cooling pads that work well with the DV3T? Ones that blow air from the bottom to the top?

Im looking to get myself a smaller laptop to take around with me. I have at home a g50v right now and love it but it’s just too big to take with me everywhere. I like both of these laptops but can’t decide which one I like better. I see some were saying that they had a 30% coupon for the dv3t which would make it the same price or less as the dv2z.

I have received my dv3t in black today, and it comes preinstalled with Vista. I have a copy of Windows XP Pro and would like to reformat it to this. Is there a way to do this and ensure all drivers can work?
For those who want to see the guides I am looking at, here they are (also found on posts #2 and #4):

I had 3 specific laptops that I was looking at buying: HP Dv3t, Sony Viao SR, and the Dell XPS 1340. I ended up choosing the HP over the other two for several reasons. My priorities were, upgraded battery, bluray, P series processor, and nothing larger than 13.3inches. The dell has no bluray (I want the bluray for my HDTV use, not laptop use) so it really came down to the Sony and the HP.
HP Dv3t Pros:
Price
Bluray
9 cell battery ($30)
HP Dv3 Cons:
Video card
Sony Viao SR Pros:
Bluray..........................

Is it possible to add this feature (safely) after purchase? I'm not optimistic but I thought it would be worth asking, it's the one feature I think I would have changed when I ordered (had it for a little while, don't want to go through the return process [even if they would let me at this point] just for this).

when I use my HP Bluetooth mouse the right palm area of the laptop gets really hot. Has anyone else experienced this? Is is normal? That area does not seem to get hot when using the trackpad, just the BT mouse.
I think I'm going to switch to a non-bluetooth wireless mouse.

I just installed windows 7 RC on my dv3t today, and it is such a new enhanced experience! I love the more sleek, smooth, and faster OS already. I have installed many necessary drivers to run W7, did updates, and organized all tools (Advanced System Care, Smart Defrag, etc.) It's a real champ. There are some things on HP's side I need to address to make the 100% of my W7 experience fulfilled.
1. Where is the GeForce 105M driver for W7 64bit? I looked on NVidia's site, and tried 6 different drivers, for Vista and W7 64bit, and the audio is the only part that was installed. This interferes with the native resolution, and I am having to use 1280 x 720.
2. Brightness setting is not visible anywhere in control panel, and the FN keys to alternate brightness (F7 and F8) do not work. The screen remains at full brightness. How can I fix this?
3. The fingerprint reader does not seem to work. In Vista, I had Digital Persona, but cannot seem to find a way to render it useful on W7. Maybe I am looking in the wrong places?

I just got an HP DV3T to replace a Dell Studio 1555 laptop. I liked the Studio 1555 but I wanted a smaller size laptop and the HD 1080p screen, while beautiful, made text a real chore to read.
I received the DV3T a couple days ago and wanted to share my initial impressions for anyone else considering this laptop as there don't seem to be many on this forum who have it. I use my laptops for word processing, light photo editing, watching Hulu etc and general websurfing.
Things I like about the HP DV3T:
Size: It's perfect. Not too small yet small enough to be portable and lighter than a 15 inch laptop.
Build quality: It's very sturdy and does not feel fragile at all. I would describe the build quality as excellent. It does have a shiny finish however which is a real fingerprint magnet. I like the design (I have the black model) although the silver circles on it make it look like it was designed by Target.....

Looking at the HP site these days, the dv3t gives you free 320GB HDD, Included LED display (at 1280x800), and long battery life.
The dv4t has only a free 250GB, extra $60 for LED, less battery life, and costs nearly the same (Infact, only $20 less for the same specs asthe dv3t).
Why SHOULDNT I get the dv3t? I'm in the market for a small, light PC with 512MB Discreet graphics and something around 2.2-2.4GHZ Intel. Seems like dv3t is the no brainer. Considering smaller computers tend to be more expensive it surprises me that HP offer more free upgrades on the dv3t than on the dv4t.

I got the HP DV3T and was looking to see what options existed for upgrading the optical drive to support blu-ray but as of yet I have been unable to find what models of the slimline blu-ray drives are actually compatible with this laptop. Would anyone have any idea where I could find this information or better yet personal experience/knowledge of what will and will not work?

I've had my HP dv3t since mid June 2009 and had no real problems with overheating until recently. I've noticed that the fans have been kicking in when watching videos and sometimes to the extent that it shuts off my computer instantly. I'm not sure why watching videos overheats my system. Maybe it's the specs?

I purchased a 13" HP Dv3t-2000 Moonlight White laptop back in May 2009. I got this particular model before HP released the backlit keyboard option in their slightly newer DV3t's. I also upgraded from Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit in October 2009.
Anyways, ever since I got my laptop I've had an audio issue. Whenever I turn my volume up to 100%, and I play music or a youtube video through my built in speakers, the audio output gets crackly. I can feel the audio vibrating through my laptop. I have to turn my volume down to around 64% to eliminate only a part of the crackling.
This crackling issue doesn't happen when I listen to audio through headphones or earbuds. But I would like to have clear audio output through my built in speakers.
ON A SIDE NOTE: My brother got a 13" HP Dv3t Espresso Black about a month after mine, and his has a backlit keyboard. When he turns his volume to the max, and plays something through his built in speakers, there is NO CRACKLING whatsoever!
I went to his Speaker settings and found that he has the IDT High Definition Audio Codec installed. I checked mine and it just says Default speakers. That raised a red flag - the fact that I didn't have this IDT codec could be my problem..........

Received dv3t CTO couple of days ago from HP. I am not even done clean installing on the notebook, and when I opened the HP total care advisor today, it was showing battery condition as poor. I ran the battery check tool, and it shows battery color as Red, battery health indicator as "Replace" and a message that says "The battery check has detected a failure. The battery may be covered by your HP warranty." I contacted HP chat and rep said they are sending me a new battery. I dont install HP total care advisor after clean install ever, so in a way I am glad this software detected the battery problem before I clean installed the system and wiped out this software, and I got battery replacement. Makes me wonder if this software should be installed after clean install. If I want to install it after clean, where do I download it from?

My cousin own a Dell Inspiron laptop and he gonna replace the laptop battery very soon, because its very weak.
He can't connect to his wireless network. Wondering is there any connection between a 'weak' battery and the laptop's ability to find the wireless connection.
There has not been any issue connecting to the network before the battery issue appeared. What to do before the new battery arrives?
