Lenovo T400 / T500 :: T440p - Audio Coming From Speakers Despite Headphone Being Plugged Into Jack
Aug 17, 2012
This doesn't always happen, but I've noticed a few times on my T440p that when I have headphones plugged in, sounds comes out of the speakers. The headphones are functional and fully plugged in, yet no sound comes out of them, and the sound comes out of the speakers. I've fixed this multiple times by unplugging the headphones and plugging them back in.
(My problem differs from this one, where sounds comes from both the headphones and speakers)....
I have a T520 thinkpad with a docking station. I can get my headphones to work fine out of the laptop, but I would like to leave my headphones plugged into the headphone jack on the dock itself. The computer doesn't seem to recognize this jack is even there. My only sound options are the laptop speakers and the audio jack on the right side of the laptop.
How to enable the audio jack on the back of the dock?
Have a weird problem and just wanted some advice on what to do next, before sending in my laptop to dell..
My laptop speakers wont output any sound whatsoever. While i can hear those very same sounds via headphone jack/hdmi.. No music, windows system sounds etc via the speakers, but can hear them via headphone/hdmi..
I have installed and updated the latest drivers.. Reformatted and reinstalled operating system (windows 7 home 64 bit), yet no results..
While I am convinced that it could be a hardware problem, I was wondering if you guys could suggest any more tests/things to do..
I've tried to make an usb bootable stick(ntfs format) with windows 8 using cmd line commands and other applications but the usb isn't displayed as a boot device on the boot menu when i press F12.
I am running Win 7 on a new T440p. I can't connect to a projector using F7 nor are the brightness controls working (F5 and F6). The other HotKeys are working. I have updated to the latest HotKey driver.
I have bought new T440p (20AN006NUS). Everywhere was written that it comes with preinstalled Windows 7 pro and also includes Windows 8 pro license.
As I understand license key for Windows 8 is embeded in BIOS. But I have not any installation media for Windows 8 included in the box with laptop. How upgrade to Windows 8 should look like?
I have an Aspire E1-572 that is five months old, running Win 8.1. I've loved the notebook to this point, but now the speakers have quit working completely (the headphone jack still works). I called tech support and they had me delete and reinstall the driver (Realtech high definition audio), which made no difference.
She then told me the next step is to refresh my Windows installation, which will apparently blow away everything I've installed since it was new. I declined to do that because I really don't want to spend an entire day reinstalling all the programs, even though I have the data backed up. Is this truly the only way to make a final determination if it's a hardware or software problem?
I've purchased this ram from the lenovo site for my T440p laptop and they said its compatible with the original 4gb RAM which it has. but when I install it in the other free slot and turn it on it cames with a black screen and stucks in it!! When I take it out everything is ok and it turns on normally.
I just received three new T440p laptops using Win7 Pro. Unfortunately, the wireless link to keeps disconnecting ever so frequently on all the machines. I have updated the Wireless drivers, reinstalled the BIOS and even optimised power options to enhance the wireless perfomance but none have worked.
Just got a T440p and it's working fine. BUT when I go into an application like Word and either hit the function key or combine it with the Alt, Ctrl, or Shift key, I still get the default action of the Funciton key. For example, in Word, the Alt-F9 combination is used to display field codes. When I do that, however, I get the Control Panel popup. Similarly, in a browser, I should be able to hit the F12 key and get the Developers pane at the bottom of the screen. But instead in IE, Chrome, and Firefox, I get a My Computer popup.
I just got myself a thinpad T440p and was planning on getting a docking station. Since i have never gotten one before i was confused on which one should i get. I wanted to get the thinkpad Ultra Dock but was confused on how i would determine if i should be getting the 90W, 135W or the 170W. I live in Canada, Ontario if it makes a difference.
I was also curious, whats the main difference between the basic dock and ultra dock. Is it worth it for me to get the ultra for work?
I recently purchased my new notebook (Lenovo T440p) which comes with OPTIMUS integrated Intel graphic card coupled by GeForce GT 730M 1GB. I tried to play some games; however for some reason in game options show, that my Intel HD card is being used as a default graphic card. This suggests that OPTIMUS technology is not switching the graphic card properly. System running on windows 8.1 Pro 64bit. How to enable Optimus switching?
IBM/Lenovo laptops and desktops for a long time. I recently purchased a T440P laptop with a standard 7200 RPM HDD in it. In the past, with previus models, when I wanted to troubleshoot the current Windows install (virus infections etc) I would use UBCD4WIN on a USB stick to boot the computer to USB and access the hard drive to pull data off or remove files infections etc. With this new T440P I cannot seem to see the hard drive when I boot it up with the USB stick.
I can boot the computer just fine and run the USB based OS without trouble but I simply cannot see the hard drive.
So far I have tried: -Adjusting UEFI to Legacy and/or "Both" -Adjusted CSM to Yes and No -Disabled/Enabled Secure Boot
and several combinations of all of the above in hopes it was the issue but it doesn't seem to change my ability to see the hard drive. It simply doesn't show up.
The drive itself (in the T440P) is a standard HDD (not SSD) and is formatted NTFS with Windows 7 64bit installed on it.. The UBCD4WIN is a basic "Windows XP" x86 (32 bit) OS on a USB stick and the USB stick is formatted FAT32.
In previous lenovo models (T400/T410 etc) all I had to do was switch AHCI to Compatibility and I could see the drive but this one is giving me a real fit and I am not exactly sure if its a controller driver, UEFI or something else.
how to see the hard drive when booting to the USB UBCD4WIN stick?
Is it possible to use two external monitors with my T440p (20AW-A08500) with Intel HD Graphics withou having to buy a dock? I normally use my laptop at home with the lid shut and two monitors attached.
I used to have X1 (still do - now up for sale) and that was happily connected to two monitors via HDMI and via a MiniDP to DVI adaptor.I wrongly assume when I bought the T440p that I would be able to somehow power my existing two monitors from the single MiniDP port.I have seen their is a Lenovo DisplayPort to DualDisplayPort adaptor - but this talks about ThinkCentre usage - no mention of Thinkpads. Plus the price of this adaptor is pretty steep.
I tried to do fn + f7 to toggle display modes as I want only laptop or monitor display, not both. But when I do fn + f7, the small window pop up ask me if I want to turn on caret browsing or not. How to toggle display modes between laptop or monitor for t440p, window 8.1?
First is while I'm docked in at work I use a normal key board and it has a right click botton on it. When I go home I do not have that button and know for previous models there is a short cut that you can do to "right click" rather than going to the track pad and right clicking.
Second is for the F1, F2, F3, etc... to work I have to hold down the Fn button. Is there a way to turn around the keys to where when I hold down the Fn key and press F1 it actually mutes the sound. I guess im trying to say is there a way to switch the primary function of the F row?
After updating to the latest video drivers from the ThinkVantage Update Retriever, our Lync clients crash when sharing desktop on our T440P series and X240 series. I noticed when I uninstall the video driver I am able to screen share without incident. Also, if I update the driver from Windows Update I am able to share successfully. We use the update retriever and thininstaller to install our drivers in our environment. I have tried uninstalling the Lync updates all the way down to the base version and experience the same issue at every level. It crashes 100% of the time when sharing desktop. I have tested it on T440p machines in our environment that do not have the latest display driver, and no crashes occurred. Here are the specifics:
Thinkpad X240 [20AL] Thinkpad T440p [20AN] ThinkVantage Update Retriever 5.00.0007 Thinkvantage Thin Installer 1.2.0010 Intel HD Graphics Driver - gid634ww (10.18.10.3412) Microsoft Lync 2013 SP1 32 Bit (15.0.4569.1503)
my new T440p with built-in WWAN Ericsson N5321gw doesn't recognize the SIM-Card. I'm running Win7 64 Bit and in the device manager, I can see the Ericsson device showing up without any errors. Once I launche Access Connections, I receive the error message there's no SIM card inserted and I should insert the SIM and try again. The SIM is inserted as shown next to the slot (although I tried other ways, too). I tried two different SIM-cards just to be safe, both SIM-cards are working in my phone.
I have a T440P, Up to recently, I was in Windows 7 with Lenovo Power Manager set with threshold charging limited at 63%, So far so good. Now, Windows 8.1 has been installed from scratch (Not an upgrade).
The laptop with windows 8.1 still stop charging at 63%. But there is no Lenovo Power Manager available for windows 8.1. I don't find any solution to deactivate this limitation...
Imaged with preconfigured company Windows 7 x64 image I have used hundreds of times before via MDT. WDS packaged T440p drivers (downloaded from Lenovo website) are injected as part of the MDT installation process.
All windows updates applied (except for the Lenovo PM Device Driver otherwise the thing no longer reboots or shuts down properly anymore) BIOS flashed to latest T440p revision.
Run Lenovo System Update to install hotkey drivers and receive the following:
As you can see Win7 x64... driver says no.
Restarted and tried again... error.
Tried downloading the driver manually from [URL] .... Same error.
Searched for and downloaded version 5.40 .... Same error.
I ran Lenovo System Update 2 days ago on another T440p laptop, may have been a slightly different internal spec... not sure but I'm fairly sure the driver was named differently in System Update. The driver Installed on that machine fine and functions as intended.
The driver could very well could have been updated since then I guess. I do also know this is a newer batch of T440p's as the box configuration that it ships in has changed and looks completely different.
so for a while my headphone jack has been breaking. id have to wiggle around my headphone or speakers plug in the jack to make audio come out the right speaker. now it doesnt work at all unless push the jack in really hard and hold it there. does anyone know how to make audio come out of the microphone jack? like change it from input to output or something lol i dunno.
New ThinkPad T440p and the first issue I encountered is there is no option to disable the touchpad when an external mouse is detected. I don't want to do it via the bios or some other hack as I use the touchpad when it is not convenient to use an external mouse. So it should be able to do the switching as needed, this is a simple feature that other manufacturers have had for years and years.
I already upgrade the UltraNav Driver to the latest v18.0.7.57 and that didn’t present a solution. I am running Windows 7 SP1 - 64bit.
My T440p slightly adjusts the screen brightness depending on what is being displayed. For example, on Chrome, one page might have more images, so the screen slightly adjusts brighter or darker. Another page it might slightly adjust again. And it does it when scrolling down a page as well. It is distracting, and I want to disable it? I'm on windows 7.
The company I work for just gave me a new Thinkpad T440P and I have a screen Brightness problem. the shortcuts on the keyboard doesn't work with or without the fn button and the brightness gauge doesn't show up in the power options too.
Someone suggested to that I should download and install the latest Intel HD Graphics Driver for Windows 7 from the support page [URL] ... but after the installation ended a pop up on my screen said that my Laptop doesn't have the minimum requirements for this driver! so who come it's in the drivers section for this model?
We have 2 new T440p (i7 4800MQ, 16gb, ssd) which we installed with clean Win 8.1 and the newest drivers (intel hd 10.18.10.3345, nvidia 9.18.13.3182).
The laptops run on 4 ultra docks with different monitor configurations, mostly dual display, one single display, mostly samsung displays, always one display via dvi, second displays vga as we did not receive our display-port adapters yet).
In all configurations we have the same problem: Between every few seconds and about 20 minutes the external screens flicker and get rediscovered. Often this happens in Chrome or when doing some graphic-intensive stuff, but we cannot trace it down. Takes a few seconds to rediscover and all windows not in fullscreen are resized afterwards, because of display resolution detection and mostly we get the Display port new topology notification... We already tried with disabling the nvidia via the nvidia gpu settings and only using hd graphics but that didn't work.
A few years ago I had problems with my T400 discrete grafics, but then I could disable it in the BIOS which does not seem to be possible with the T440p...
