i have a vaio companion dvd for Z690. however my laptop model is Z590.When I try to use the dvd it says it wasn't suitable for my notebook model. how can i modify my model number so that i can use that dvd with my notebook?
I need to find the exact model number like dv6xxxxXX (like dv 6234TX)
I have a hp DV6000 (1.73 Core Duo T2250,2 GB Ram, 120 HD, Geforce Go 7400)
Now I bought this laptop used. there is only a charger and the laptop...
The back of this laptop does not have the Service Tag...it has been taken off...
Then i went to the bios but under product model and number it is blank.... (so my first question is WHY isnt the bios detecting the product model number and serial number in the FIRST PLACE?
I also used the auto detection method on hp site but it is unable to identify ...
I received a dell xps 17 l702x laptop a while ago, but I noticed today that under model in system properties, it displays that my laptop is a l502x laptop, dell's xps 15 line? I know that the outside of my laptop is an xps 17 as it is the correct dimensions and the hard drive covering on the back states l702x. I am confused to say the least.
When I go to watch Lost on Hulu it plays fine in small screen. When I go to full screen it is fine until I pause it. Then when I resume play the picture is choppy. Then to get rid of choppy play I must either exit the site and relog in or if I hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete then close Ctrl-Alt-Delete it will resume normal play until I hit pause again. I have had it back to BB for the problem but they dont know what is causing it. I cannot exchange it for another because the new products are coming out in a few weeks and this one is no longer available. I really like this one and I cannot believe this is a major issue. I really dont want to exchange this unit I would rather have it repaired even if I have to do it myself.
I have to fix this notebook for a friend, but I don't know the HDD model or brand. I entered on the bios but it doesn't show. Is there anyway I can get it?
This notebook has hdd problems and I saw an UUID on bios, so here's another question: Is there anything I need to do before replace the hdd or only Sony can replace it?
To day i found new Vaio Z show off in my country (Thailand) it come in stores 4 days ago here is specification of top model
VPC-Z117GG Intel Core i7-620M 2.66GHz - 3.33GHz DDR3 8GB Quad SSD 256GB Nvidia Geforce GT330m 13.1 Screen at 1920x1080 Windows 7 x64 Professional Weight 1.4 Kg Battery 5hrs Local warranty 2years Inter 1 years Price 94,900 Baht (Approx US$2899)
New palmrest design is looking more better than the picture, the 1920x1080 screen does not look too small at all because it set font size to 125%. Text look a little bigger than the 1600x900 at font size 100%
When i set the font size back to 100% the text is small but not too much i think many people can live with that size.
After that i download some benchmark programs to test the device but in final the sale really don't want me to do that. So i took a picture in hurry and this is the result.
I finally got my VPC Z with HDD/no DVD today and I thought I'd start up a thread on the subject for those like me who once receiving their Z will be trying to use Vaio Recovery Center to create recovery disks without using a DVD Writer.
Installing Win 7 from a USB stick is fairly well documented on the web but the problem above isn't, certainly not for the VPC Z anyway. I know that it's probably gonna be simpler to just create a bootable USB key/stick and copy the relevant drivers to it and use that (something I'll be doing to get rid of all the crapware sony have preinstalled) but I like having the security of an additional backup solution just in case I royally balls it up.
The main issue (i think) is with Vaio Recovery Center itself, if you try to create the recovery disk the software will complain that no dvd writer can be found. After trying a couple of virtual CD/DVD/BD-ROM/HD-DVD tools I took the advice of TofuTurkey (cheers fella) in the vaio owners thread and tried Virtual CD. I'm happy to report that this has the capability to create a fake drive with various fake media discs and does indeed fool the Vaio software into creating an ISO to the internal hard drive. I setup a DVD+R DL drive and everything went smothly. Vaio Rocovery created a single ISO 5,344,117KB in size.
Seems the next trick is to find a way of creating a bootable USB stick (again there's plenty of info out there concerned with installing Win 7) and then writing the ISO (or contents of?) it to it and filing it away for safe keeping. ZoinksS2k mentioned I should be "sure to set the partition to Active and run bootsect to make it bootable." which is going to be my next step after I've read up a little again on this.
I had a question on the SSD drives used in the FW590 CTO (configure-to-order).
I know that they have a 128GB option and also a 256GB option for their SSD drives and wanted to know the make/model/manufacturer of the drives.
As we know, there is a world of difference between the performance of the various SSD drives available, with the Intel models being the highest performing ones, while some of the other SSD drive models being pretty poor from a performance perspective.
I talked to Sony support who expressed complete ignorance on the make/model/manufacturer of the SSD drives employed in the FW models (VGNFW590 CTO is the model I am looking for) and thus was wondering if the folks on the forum know the details on it.
Last minute question (and definitely a dumb one) - where do you find the unique serial number on our laptops (ie for use when declaring it with customs prior to leaving the country)?
I don't have the UPC code that the Sony registration site directs me to on my box, and on the bottom of the laptop there is no specific number that says "S/N: #########"..
I'm trying to find info on an aspire... Not the model # itself as that is not the problem, but the sub model#...
The model is Acer Aspire 8930G, but the sub model # is 6963 and that is where my research seems to go dry... Does anyone have info on this sub model #?
Also i might ask is how user friendly is the 8930G for upgrades as for the processor and video? The current processor is the T5800 with the 9600m nvidia... Would it make sense to upgrade and what is the potential of this 8930G with the T5800?
I found the part number for the raid component in the Z-series. You just need two low-profile SSD, and you should be able to do RAID in the Z-series laptop without paying for RAID config from Sony.
Part number is A-1553-769-A You can go here to purchase the part [url] You may be able to use this in the TT as well, but I'm not so sure about that.
Kiwi (new zealander) here, ive been sortof eyeing the cw series and looking for some kindof equivalent over this way, we do seem to have a previous iteration. however sony model numbers are doing my head in,
ive found something fairly decent, albeit a little out of my price range at 2.5knzd (1.7kusd);
(edit) durr need model number too, S Series apparently, Sony Vaio VPCS117GGB. 2.40 GHz Intel Core i5-520M Processor 4GB DDR3 Ram .....
1. Screen comes on with colored lines and black and white splotches 2. Attached external monitor and it shows no signal. 3. Used Fn key an F7 key, it did not transfer to external.
I'm having trouble sourcing the screen assembly (the bezel or surround rather than the screen itself) for a Sony TZ series. Is there a site that can show me part numbers on a diagram..
I can't look at the machine in question until next week to find out the part numbers directly..
I bought this laptop for about 2 and a half years and I got the extended warranty for 3 years. After I bought it about 3-4 months after I have called and asked for the BIOS password but they stalled and stalled and stalled and I never obtained it. Now I call again to ask for the BIOS password w/ all the information they are acquiring like receipt etc. Now they say that my warranty has expired. Are they not supposed to give all information of the laptop to the customer that purchased their products? I need the BIOS to reformat my OS..
I have this laptop I need to fix, and it looks like it was dropped on the corner where the power inline jack is, and it's pretty messed up so I'll have to buy one of these to replace it, also one of the cords is snapped so I'll have solder it.

I've been looking all over the internet on instructions on how to take it apart, now I've taken all of the screws on the bottom and I'm still pretty stuck.
On the back of my Sony laptop, the model says PCG-6L2L, but when I took it in to servicing to a SONY authorized dealer for a diagnosis, the paper it came back with said Model VGNSZ260P. What's up with that? Is this the same thing, just different numbers? My laptop is a Z series, but nowhere on my laptop does it say anything about Z series or VGN. Similarily, my friend just bought a brand new Z series laptop that was sold as a VGN (over $2500), yet again, on the back of his there is a PCG model number and nowhere does it say anything about VGN or Z series?
Secondly, and more importantly.
The diagnosis came back negative. Everything works (cpu, ram, video, lcd, etc etc), but the actual system board, motherboard, is dead. When I boot up, it shows the SONY screen and I can get to BIOS, but as soon as it hits bios, or about 5 seconds after SONY symbol, everything freezes.
Naturally, the $800 they wanted is ridiculous. I am very tech savvy, especially with computers, I've been building them for a very long time, but have little experience with laptops. I am convinced that I can fix this if I can find a motherboard for it....
I need some help from you Sony experts with something..
First of all.. I'm on a Sony Vaio laptop. Model no. VGN-NW265F
The graphics card is.. Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family
Okay, so here is the issue. This issue has been plaguing my computer since it came out of the box. It has always been like this, so there is no user error involved here .....
I've got a Vaio TT, I can get everything working on it apart from WWAN. I have had the same problem with win 7 32 bit and 64 bit.
What happend initially was aa driver error " smart card not found" now I have got over that but when i try connecting via windows it times out and when using GT connect it says waiting for device or again device not found.
