Mar 5, 2009I discovered that the headphone jack isn't functional. Has anyone found a way to get the audio to switch to output through the headphone jack on this model?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI had replaced mobo on my dead SZ 4 series (don't ask why) and couldn't stop there since I was in the move thus consequently contemplated about possible upgrades. For now I settled for fan, WLAN card and CPU upgrade. If it works well, I might install SSD also.
1.Fan Modification
As you all proud SZ owners know, fan is very noisy on this machines so it made me think if there is any possible modification to reduce the noise. Since the BIOS is controlling it there is not much to do on the RPM part (in win at least, but more on that later) I settled for a fan and fan casing swap from SZ 4 to SZ 7 series.
In the photos you can see that fans, fan casings and heat-sinks are of different design. Besides design differences, voltage and the amperage are the same, 5V-300mA.
Only way was to install the fan and the casing of the SZ 7 heat-sink to my old one as one of the heat-sinks bolt bushings is off for a few millimeters.
There has to be some care exercised when prying off the fan casing, some heating was required from the aluminium side on three pins were casing is attached.
Not to be simple, the difference is also in the inlet hole. One on the SZ 7 heat-sink is bigger and off centre compared to SZ 4s. Had to do some filing there, to match it to the size of the new fan. Fan of SZ7 is not bigger, it is due to different design of the fan eye and its volutes...................
I have a Sony VGN-Z36GD. I am having problems with my sound. When I try and record something all I get is a hissing sound when I play it back. When I use Skype I can hear the person I am talking to but they cannot hear me. My laptop says everything is working yet it is not.

How to fix that.
Or ca someone provide me a link to this topic. And there are drivers for video, fi-wi, card reader....for ununtu?
I am not familiar with linux, but it seems interesting this ubuntu
So I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 64bit on my M1530 and have a dual boot setup with the other OS being the NSA's Windows 7 64bit.
This is my first Linux experience and I am rightfully enjoying it. Thus far I have been able to figure things out OK, but I am a total Linux newbie and dont know of a way to undervolt.
I havent figured out if its possible to run RMClock and I dont know of a Linux alternative.
Most the stuff I find on google is years old and Im thinking there have been better solutions since then .....
where do i get drivers for my xps m1710 laptop? I'm thinking of putting ubuntu on it due to how well it works.
Here's what I need:
a 7950GTX Driver
a sound driver
a broadcom driver
i turned off the other stuff, so I'm not going to be needing drivers for them as of yet. where to get drivers for my m1710,
any problem with HP or Compaq notebook? I could not get Ubuntu liveCD load into desktop screen at all?? It does work with my desktop PC.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am planning on getting the mbp with hybrid graphics. I wish to triple boot osx, ubuntu 9.04 64 bit, and vista business 32 bit( or maybe 64bit)
I read that the 9400m is unusable in windows, and the 9600m gt is the only option. I was wondering if I could use just the 9400m in 9.04 to get better battery life, as I do not need powerful graphics in ubuntu.
I bought a brand new HP 470 (i5-3230M, 8 GB, 750 GB, AMD 8750M 2 GB) with Linux SUSE operating system. I erased everything and installed Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit (that time still Alpha release). I soon noticed the random freezes (=screen remained as it is, no mouse, nothing) that needed a hard power off (5-sec power button). I thought it was an Alpha issue but nothing improved through continuous updates. Now, Ubuntu 14.04 is LTS and officially released for over a month and I still experience these freezes. They occur always; can be 5 min or 2 hours after boot.
I suspect the ATI's graphic card. I've installed the beta version of the latest drivers (from end of April). They officially support Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS and 13.10 but there were people on the forum claiming it installs also on the 14.04. I risked and succeeded. But... freezes are still there.
I'm OK to use Ubuntu down to version 10.04 (if that solves the problem). It maye be related to kernel version.I don't want to use any Windows version. I'd rather sell the notebook if Windows is a solution.
out of nowhere it seems that my speakers are no longer working. sound drivers look okay, no viruses, and audio works out of the headphone jack
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have recently purchased a sony cw with the i5 chip. I love it and have had it now for a little over a month.
the question i have though is that when I play a blu ray movie the sound is so extremely low. I have tried moving the sound bar on the PC as well as on the corel dvd window to max but the sound is still horribly low. If i put in headphones the sound is loud as it should be.
I replaced a fan on my Vaio VGN-SZ320. Everything works normal except for the sound. THe internal speakers do not work however the headphone jack does.
I have replaced the following : both speakers, the ANL-66 board, and the FPC-36 cable.
I have a VGN-NR11S and earlier i turned it off and had sound. I then turned it off and came back on later and it started installing some updates. Now in the bottom right hand corner it has a cross over the speaker and says: 'No audio output device is installed'. What happened to it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI obtained a sony VGN-T17C/S last year and the audio was ok.
I went to install a new program andit got the blue screen on lost the sound.
Instead of checking for a previous restore point, the HDD was cleaned out and I tried ot restore everything. All other drivers seem to be ok except the sound.
The sound drive says that it is installed but the sound can only be heard very weakly on the headphones.
Here is the printout from Everest:-..........
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ150P, but the sound doesn't work.
The previous owner said he made by acident a shortcut, near the keyboard connector.
The symptoms the driver does work, and when I look in the volume control I see a moving green bar, indicating the sound is produced, but it doesn't come out.
I tried with external speakers but no luck there.
It clearly is a hardware fault.
I can't find anything on the board that has to do with sound, can someone tell me where to look, and what to look for.
Everytime we connect for a webcam chat, it breaks up and disconnects. Is it because of our internet or is it an issue with the operating system, etc? .
View 4 Replies View RelatedI wonder if anyone has tried the latest version of Ubuntu or Kubuntu on XPS1730. This laptop works very cool on Windows XP (Core2Extreme, 8700SLI, 4GB RAM).
It is just hard to find what might be the reason/solution .....
I'm looking at ordering a Mini 9 but am disappointed to see that I can't get the fully loaded model (2gb RAM, 64gb drive) with XP.
If I were to order the Ubuntu model with all the bells and whistles (including Bluetooth and 1.3 webcam),
how hard would it be to install XP on it? I've heard that the webcam on the Linux version is not the same as on the XP version so I'm wondering if there'd be a problem with drivers, etc
I cant find it on the dell website, I would love to set up a dual boot set up.
View 4 Replies View RelatedUbuntu 9.10 is perfect and to be true it too just works out of the box , given the fact that it has to support infinite pc configurations it is great !!!
Hail 9.10 .. and if you wont try you will surely miss something great. Where else do you have a resume and sleep time of 2-4 seconds. bootup time of less than 15 seconds ..
It doesnt have a lot more to take to catch up .. i am certain that in a year or so you will see emergence of linux everywhere .. Just that volume is what promotes things,
if a lot of people start using linux, a lot of hardware manufacturers will be forced to give better drivers and support.
im a m1730 user interested in installing Ubuntu on my machine. Ive gone through various Windows OS setups, dual boot and what not, and would like to try Ubuntu.
I downloaded the Live Cd, Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit, and when i boot from it, no matter which option i try (Try Ubuntu, Install Ubuntu, Check Cd, etc), i get a BusyBox command prompt which loops some I/o error. No graphical user interface for installing comes up
For curiosity I just want to know, If we have dual boot install of WinXP SP and Ubuntu after complete removal of WinVista, does the machine found all drivers and the machine runs smoothly ?

I have sony vaio Z11VRN, windows 7 ultimate installed...with all the official sony drivers...
everything is working just great...until I wanted to connect my laptop to my new philips tv via HDMI..
(before I was doing that all the time with Toshiba TV with no issues at all!)... so no I have no sound.
To cut the long story short....it is not an issue with sound card (playback devices selected HDMI one...and the equalizer actually moves...), the TV has no issues since it works perfectly with dvd using the same cable.
since yesterday my sound ain't working.
According to Vista the soundcard is installed and working properly.
When I chat through Skype, I can see that speaker-sensor is moving, my friends can hear me too but I can't hear them, no sound what so ever.

I bought my sony aw series it's working well. Just recently, I got a problem with my speaker laptop. when i try to open K-lite plaer or Window media player I sometimes get this Sizzy sound as if like the speaker is broken even i played the song at low volume but when i restart everything goes well. Sometimes this problem occurs? Is it my hardware or software driver problem?

Is this a driver issue or the hardware is built like that?
Is there any software to increase the sound volume?
