just recently installed win7 x86 and everything seems to be working. I have one remaining unknown device under USB controllers and i am trying to figure out what it belongs to. my webcam works (although i think its listed as usb input device), and parser device, i/o device and texas mem stick have all been installed. i have also noticed that my fingerprint reader says that it is not connected when im first booting into windows although it works properly. could this unknown device have something to do with the reader?
I'm using the W540 with an ultradock and external monitors. After upgrading my W540 to win8.1 64 bit, device manager is showing an unknown device. I'm not quite sure what it is, but almost everything seems to be working fine and Lenovo solution center isn't finding any driver updates.
I did notice that the solution center hardware scan did not test the video card memory and listed that test as N/A. Video and monitors seem to be working fine though and both nvidia and intel graphics show up in device manager.
Device manager lists the device in question as follows: Device instance path: ROOTSYSTEM001 Hardware Ids: rootiwdbus Device stack: DriverPnPManager
I just bought a B590, model 20208, with, i3-3110m, 500GB HDD, GeForce 720M.I installed Win 7 64bits, but in Device Manager, before installing all the drivers appeared Other Devices an Unknown Device with thise details: code 28, Device type: Other devices; Location: on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controllert . After installing drivers, the problem persists.Another problem was with PCI express but resolved with Intel Management Engine Interface drivers.Other problem resolved was with the GeForce 720 M videocard; wasn't recognized but resolved with the last driver from GeForce site. the last problem remained it's The Unknown Devices.
I have an HP Pavilion dv5-1183cl that has been upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate (32bit) and I have some issues.I have four errors showing up in my device manager, three Base System Device and one Unknown Device, and I don't know what they are or where to get the drivers (since I don't know what they are). Additionally, the battery will not charge (there does not appear to be anything wrong with it physically). I am wondering if the below errors are related to the battery issue. Below are the hardware IDs for each error entry.
Base System Device (PCI bus 6, device 0, function 1): PCIVEN_197B&DEV_2382&SUBSYS_3603103C&REV_00PCIVEN_197B&DEV_2382 &SUBSYS_3603103CPCIVEN_197B&DEV_2382&CC_088000PCIVEN_197B&DEV_2382&CC_0880

Since a few days now I get the message'The USB-device was not recognized: One of the USB-devices connected to this computer does not work correclty. The device has not been recognized'. It keeps popping up from my right corner below, every 5 seconds if I don't click it. When I click the message, I get a list of USB devices (ports) there are available. There's one 'Unknown device'. Maybe it has something to do with the finger scan (biometric)? This hasn't been working very good lately..Even when there's no single USB device installed (normally I have a mouse and a Targus laptop chill mat installed as USB devices), it keeps popping up. I tried deleting the USB port from the list (or uninstall it) in Device control, but it seems it keeps happening.
I suddenly got it, I did nothing specific of did not connect any strange devices (except for a projector on the external monitor exit, but that has nothing to do with USB). I also hear the sound for connecting and disconnecting USB devics randomly when I'm on my laptop.

I just finished doing a clean install of Vista SP1 on my new Studio 1537. Everything has gone well, however when I checked Device Manager I have one device with an exclamation mark next to it. When I clicked on the unknown device properties it tells me that it is "Intel(R) ICH9M LPC Interface Controller - 2919" I've looked all over Dell's Driver and Download site and I can't find the driver for this device nor do I know what category I should look under. When I contacted Dell's support they wanted me to unistall the device and overwrite my current BIOS version, A07, with an older version, A05. I decided that wasn't the best way so I thought I'd ask here hoping someone could help. After my install I loaded the drivers in the following order per Dell's directions: Notebook System Software, Chipset, Audio, Video, NIC Card, Dell Quickset, Wireless NIC, Touchpad. I didn't download and install the SATA drivers from Dell's website because my drive model isn't one of the ones listed for use with the driver. My drive is listed as a ST9320320AS. I'd appreciate any help someone can offer.
I basically used my webcam every night with Skype to talk to my friends. The very next day, it stops working. Ive literally tried everything. In the device manager, I have an "Unknown Device" listed as a USB. Im 100% sure this use to be my Camera.
I just used the Acer factory CDs to reinstall my OS + Drivers. All the drivers were successfully installed with the exception of the Camera Drivers (because the computer doesnt see a camera)
I tried to download the drivers from the Acer website but (both Chicony and Suyin) and everytime I try to install them a error comes up that says "Camera not found!" I have a laptop so I have no clue how its not finding it.
ive been working on this for hours now and its really getting frustrating. Here are the things ive tried, and if someone knows a solution or a different method I havent tried to fix it, PLEASE let me know
1. Reformatted computer using Acer recovery discs 2. Downloaded and tried to install drivers from acer website (camera not found problem) 3. Put windows in Safe mode, uninstalled unknown device, restarted computer to let it automatically scan/update (still failed) 4. Deleted all pictures from My Pictures 5. Tried using Windows Vista drivers and setting to Vista Compatibility mode (I have windows 7), no avail 6. Uninstalled and reinstalled Unknown Device (aka camera) driver, didnt work 7. Tried the windows update software option, windows said everything was fine (pshhh). 8. Uninstalled unknown device, used the option "scan for hardware changes" still didnt work 9. Installed skype to see if the webcam would be recognized, which it wasnt.
I am looking for a driver to suit an "unknown device" that is being reported by the Device Manager. The properties of the device are that the driver is not installed (Code 28) Details of the device are that it is located on PCI bus, the value is ACPIHPQ6007 and the resource type is IRQ setting 0x00000017(23).
I've got a XPS 15 (L511Z) which recently stopped charging the battery. It says plugged in but not charging when I hover the mouse over the battery icon. Luckily I've got an extended warranty and on contacting Dell they sent out a new charger. I plugged that in and the same result. In fact now when I boot the laptop it gives me an "The AC adapter plugged in cannot be determined" message.
Dell then asked me to buy a new battery since batteries are not covered in the warranty. Did that but still no luck. Am thinking that the original battery was ok to begin with anyway! Dell then asked me to update the BIOS but when I tried to with the update they gave me it failed, saying incompatible with the current hardware.
I then ran the DELL Support Center utility which identified another BIOS update which updated successfully but then I noticed that it changed the Product to L501X now. The charging issue still persists though.I've sent a response back to Dell but based on what I've been reading on the forums it looks like the motherboard would have to be replaced.
This is my 3rd day since i bought this new HP probook 4540s [Product No. B9A39PA#UUF] and i like it, i made a clean install for windows 7 ultimate x64 and i've just realised that the hp drivers support page dose not has any drivers for the ultimate version, so i downloaded the proffesional drivers, now i have all devices are installed except two devices named unknown device
I have been running in to an issue lately with a Latitude E5540 laptop.
The specs are:
Intel i5 cpu @ 1.9 ghz 4 gb RAM x32 Windows 7
In my device manager it says that I have an unknown device and there is the warning symbol next to it. When I go to update the drivers it says that it can't find any drivers (I am connected to the Internet). I looked at the hardware ID and noticed that it was APCISMO8810, I then proceeded to research the driver, which I found was the ST Microelectronics Free Fall Sensor Driver. I also know what it's primary function is.
The issue I keep running in to is that I have uninstalled the driver, and tried to re-install the driver from the Dell downloads. However halfway through the process the install wizard tells me that the most recently updated driver from dells site is older than the driver I currently have installed. (even though it says there is no driver installed)
I installed a new hard drive on my Niece's laptop Inspiron 14Z (N441Z) and did a clean install of Win 7 Home Premium. I installed the Chipset drivers first and then started on the list displayed in the support area for this machine. After completing all of the drivers install, my device manager looked like this:
The Unknown Device shows an ID USBUnknown. This machine has 1-USB2 and 2-USB3 ports. If I run the Dell Diagnostics it shows that I have 1-1.1 USB ports, and 2-USB2 ports. The 1.1 port appears to works since it will recognize flash drives etc. This is also true of the of USB2 ports. The other USB2 does not recognize anything except my Samsung Galaxy 4 phone. But when it is unplugged I get a balloon on the task bar that says a USB device is not recognized. This will also occur when I first boot up the machine. It is like the machine is not recognizing the USB ports If I run any of the hardware troubleshooters that Microsoft has it tells me that a driver is missing but when it tries and install, it reports that it fails. I have undated my bios, all drivers, I have uninstalled drivers and then rebooted with no luck.
Anyways, I have just about every hardware set except for this one device windows can't figure out. I have a Pavillion Dv7t-2000 series and I did a clean install of Windows 7 Home premium 32 bit. I have just about done every driver install from the driver page that pertains to my config....
So far I have downloaded:
Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver for Microsoft Windows 7 Intel PRO/Wireless Drivers for Microsoft Windows 7 IDT High Definition Audio CODEC Driver Intel Chipset Installation Utility ATI Mobility Radeon Video Driver Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad Driver HP Quick Launch Buttons JMicron Card Reader Driver HP MediaSmart MVP Software HP MediaSmart SmartMenu HP MediaSmart Webcam Software HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection Lightscribe System Software...........
