I have an Acer 8930 with the Intel WiFi Link 5100. I updated the driver to version 12.4.3.9. When I transfer a file to my moviebox (connected to a Netgear Rangemax Router via cable) I only get up to 1.2 MB/s as speed. When I transfer via my IMac I can get up to 4.5MB/s.
Looking into the advanced properties settings of the Intel WiFi Link I noticed under Wireless mode the following options:
I've got a 320gb Seagate Freeagent Go external hard drive which I need to transfer data from onto my Acer 6920.
All starts well with transfer speeds of around 30mb/s, the speeds then drop to around 10mb/s and more often than not the whole transfer freezes and just hangs no matter what size file I'm transfering. I've got over 200gb I need transfered but it just won't do it, even in small chunks of data.
Am going to try it on XP in work but could it be a Vista problem and would updating my Intel Matrix Storage driver help?
i have found file transfer rate is noticeably low in my XPS M1530 machine. i was transferring 1.7gb file from I partition to G partition. it started sending 22mb/sec.
then there after i found it to b reduced to 10/12 mb/sec sometimes extremely low like 3 or 4mb/sec. why is that? how can i keep it constant at 22 or 20 mb/sec transferring rate.
I have a DV6-2170us. I would like to know the easiest/cheapest way to maximize my file transfers over my home network. The house is wired with a gigabit ethernet infrastructure, but the HP only has 100Mbs controller. I would like to get best speed possible for large media file transfers/backups.
My questions are:Can I add gigabit ethernet to the laptop somehow?Would it be easier to just add an eSATA card to my media server desktop PC?Should I just replace my 802.11g with a 802.11n router?
Last month my Dell Studio 1555 broke and I can not turn it anymore. I have a new computer by now, but there are many files on my old computer which I wish to transfer to my new computer, as they are quite important to me. How do I go about doing this without having to use an Ethernet cross-over cable; or otherwise remotely power on the laptop?
I'm using a Studio 1535 here and I have a 16GB Corsair Flash Voyager GT USB thumbdrive. I noticed that the write speed of my thumbdrive is slow when I copy files from my laptop to the thumbdrive. However, the write speed of my desktop is very fast.
With the beta & RC I was getting transfer speeds burning avi, h.264 etc up to 10mbps. Thinking I had a bad spindle of discs I was just now trying my second back up of some films and what not. Same difference.
I am getting 668 kps max. A transfer of 3.0 GB takes about 4 hours!
I'm little worried about the data copying speed of my new dell inspiron 7520 its too slow just giving 1-2mbps on USB 3.0 and only 25-30mbps on HDD(drive to drive) data transfer.
Since updating to Windows 8.1 I have had little other than problems. It added a few useful features, but other than that made things worse in general.
At first the problem was barely noticable at all. I would rightclick on a media file and sometimes it would maybe take a second longer than usual to bring up the context menu. Over the last two weeks it got longer and longer. At first it was mainly only when rightclicking on a media file. I noticed a big change when I tried to rename songs and movies last weekend. WHen it took about 5 seconds to bring up the menu.
Since yesterday that went up to 8 seconds and I also started seeing it when right clicking on any folders, apps, or games. Anything really. Another strange thing, every now and then after I right click, it would wait 8 seconds, the screen would go blank almost like it refreshes, and nothing would happen. Sometimes it would even move icons back to their "default" places before I moved them. Which is another annoyance. This has NEVER happened before I updated to 8.1.
I have the HP Envy 15-j063ei Windows 8.1 64-Bit 8GB RAM 1TB HDD Core 17-4700MQ 2.4GHz GeForce 740M 2GB
I have bought my Acer 8930 and I'm happy.... Or... I'm actually a little sad, because I thought it could run CoD5!!
I can run Call Of Duty 5 smooth in 5 minutes, but then it begins to slow down for some reason. I have tried different graphic-settings and Resouloution with no luck. I have heard in some other threads that Vista 64-bit would help?
I run with these specs:
Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit) Intel Core Duo Processor P8600 18.4 Full HD screen NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GT TURBOCACHE 4GB DDR3 640GB HDD Blue-ray And much more . . .
In the Acer Power-Management I have set it to High Performance, and Maximum CPU and Graphics Settings. I have also set the NVIDIA graphics driver to Performance.
I have also tried to set it on balanced.
It lags most of the games that I play. (Left 4 Dead, CoD5, GRID etc.)
i bought this 8930 with p8400 core 2 duo,GF 9600M GT, 4gb ddr3.
Ran 3dMark with 1280 x XX AA 0... 5100 points?
Isn't that a bit low? I thought the points should be somewhere 5500-6500. My NVIDIA drivers are currently 180.70, maybe i should change those? What about Vista 32bit? Never had a vista before, is there something i should turn off/disable/remove in order to make my computer faster? For now i've only removed some of the useless software that came with the computer and changed the firewall McAfee to Comodo.
I can watch blue ray on my 8930g with no probs using latest version of arcade deluxe.
But when i connect it to a Samsung LCD tv via HDMI it says the display driver is incompatible despite the fact that the desktop show on the tv fine as does any other app.
I bought myself the acer 8930 which has 32 bit vista
I know vista doesn't use part of the ram but my question was, does it really make a performance change to reckon with?
Also a few friends of me told me that my processor would not be supported very well by 64bit What's up with that? They say I need a 64 bit processor although many people here on the forum seem to do a clean install on models which have the same processor as mine
I am in the market for an 18.4" screen laptop. Brands I have found so far are Acer, HP, Sony, and Toshiba.
I just wanted to know if buying an 18.4" laptop from Acer is safe and reliable considering they can be cheaper than the competition. The Toshiba seems underpowered to me and resolution stinks; Sony looks promising with a great screen and design, but costs too much; HP I will never buy because of the gloss coating everywhere and feels cheap; and the Acer I haven't even seen in person yet, but looks good and gives the bang for the buck factor.
How much worth is it for me to get an Acer over a Sony? Both brands seem to have great screens from looking at other Acer and Sony models. Is Acer reliability pretty darn good?
If I can get some help here, links to all the new 8930 laptops would be killer! So far I found TigerDirect.com and Newegg.com, both offer good selections but TigerDirect.com offers the laptops in Blu-ray but lower screen resolution and cheaper processor.
Newegg.com offers only in dvd-drive, high screen resolution, and better processors.
I have just connected my 8930 to my LCD 1080 TV and the Video works great BUT no audio playing through the Laptop....the only way I get sound is to turn the volume up on the TV....cool picture but no sound.......
i have an acer 8930, and i have problem with the multimedia touch thing(the keyboard) on the left, i cant control it, since the volume and mute keys are turned on(in blue), and everything else its turned off, and i try to use it and it wont do anything...so, this happend once before, but 2 days latter, it was working again, by its own, but now its happening the same for almost 2 weeks now, and i dont know what to do...
i just recently bought an acer 8930g laptop, when i log into msn the synaptic tool crashes causing the scroll on the touchpad to stop functioning, however i have uninstalled the touchpad diver and got another from manufacturs website and installed it, it still doesnt seem to solve the issue, i have done a system restore, that didnt help either.
i think its msn that causes it to crash but not 100% sure tho as i have tried to test to see what causes it to crash, i did this by loggin into msn out of 10 times about 7 of the time it crashed, so am pretty sure its msn, maybe i might be wrong and please correct if i am.
below i will paste the error that i get, i got this by going on the event viewer.
on the general tab:
Faulting application SynTPEnh.exe, version 10.2.4.1, time stamp 0x47f6c0c1, faulting module SynTPEnh.exe, version 10.2.4.1, time stamp 0x47f6c0c1, exception code 0xc0000409, fault offset 0x0002988c, process id 0x17bc, application start time 0x01ca1060bf9b1946.
This one comes complete with 32 & 64Bit Windows Flasher and on my machine has fixed shutdown issue and cinedash issue. The only thing I noticed when updating is it took 4 to 5 minutes to complete. "NO" SLIC 2.1 or VT Support.
I came home and turned it on, checked my emails... I went to the fridge took something to eat, came back and my internet was gone. No connection or whatsoever. I tried turing the wireless on and off but it doesn't help, I push the side button and it doesn't matter when I press it if it says wireless allowed or wireless off. I just detects nothing. I thought maybe it was the router so I reinstalled it but even that didn't work. My sisters laptop detects our network so no problem there...
I have a 5.1 output on my comp and after reading up on Wikipedia I'm still not sure whether I should be getting sound from 5 or all 6 speakers. In the test thing it says ; If the low frequency sounds are not heard from the subwoofer (Tuba) then I should check the "Swap" box to swap the center speaker for the subwoofer, which seems to indicate I should normally be getting sound from all 6 speakers, as when I make the test Icones all 6 speakers send out soundwaves. I'm pretty sure that, in the past, I was getting sound from all the speakers, and that the subwoofer was a lot stronger than before.
How does the Acer 8930 differ from the 8920 - and in particular, from the 8920-6746? I was just about to order the Acer AS8920-6746 from Newegg - and then I saw a reference to the 8930, which appears to be a newer model.
I've bought two new hard disks for my beauty and plan to re-install the OS and applications over the weekend, however the application to create the recovery does not work!
