i have found file transfer rate is noticeably low in my XPS M1530 machine. i was transferring 1.7gb file from I partition to G partition. it started sending 22mb/sec.
then there after i found it to b reduced to 10/12 mb/sec sometimes extremely low like 3 or 4mb/sec. why is that? how can i keep it constant at 22 or 20 mb/sec transferring rate.
I'm using a Studio 1535 here and I have a 16GB Corsair Flash Voyager GT USB thumbdrive. I noticed that the write speed of my thumbdrive is slow when I copy files from my laptop to the thumbdrive. However, the write speed of my desktop is very fast.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've got a 320gb Seagate Freeagent Go external hard drive which I need to transfer data from onto my Acer 6920.
All starts well with transfer speeds of around 30mb/s, the speeds then drop to around 10mb/s and more often than not the whole transfer freezes and just hangs no matter what size file I'm transfering. I've got over 200gb I need transfered but it just won't do it, even in small chunks of data.
Am going to try it on XP in work but could it be a Vista problem and would updating my Intel Matrix Storage driver help?
Last month my Dell Studio 1555 broke and I can not turn it anymore. I have a new computer by now, but there are many files on my old computer which I wish to transfer to my new computer, as they are quite important to me. How do I go about doing this without having to use an Ethernet cross-over cable; or otherwise remotely power on the laptop?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer 8930 with the Intel WiFi Link 5100. I updated the driver to version 12.4.3.9. When I transfer a file to my moviebox (connected to a Netgear Rangemax Router via cable) I only get up to 1.2 MB/s as speed. When I transfer via my IMac I can get up to 4.5MB/s.
Looking into the advanced properties settings of the Intel WiFi Link I noticed under Wireless mode the following options:
1. 802.11a
2. 802.11b
3. 802.11g
4. 802.11b/g
5. 802.11a/g
6. 802.11a/b/g
Option 6 is selected, but should there not be an N option?
I have a DV6-2170us. I would like to know the easiest/cheapest way to maximize my file transfers over my home network. The house is wired with a gigabit ethernet infrastructure, but the HP only has 100Mbs controller. I would like to get best speed possible for large media file transfers/backups.
My questions are:Can I add gigabit ethernet to the laptop somehow?Would it be easier to just add an eSATA card to my media server desktop PC?Should I just replace my 802.11g with a 802.11n router?

View 4 Replies View RelatedDone some testing of chargers and charge rates. My non scientific findings as follows.
Battery start capacity 91.3%.
After 19 minute charge time -
Using 70watt charger :
Off 98%
On low power 98%
On full power 97%
Using 30watt charger :
Off 98%
On low power 97.5%
On full power 94.5%
To conclude the larger charger mostly maintains charge rate regardless of load on the computer.
The standard 30w charger maintains its charge rate on normal use, yet go to 100% CPU and charge rate drops by around 50%. It possible this could be far worse with an external USB HDD attached, 3G dongle and so on.
It seems that the computer can consume a little more than the 30w charger can output, but only of use in extreme circumstances.
Even with a larger charger the charge rate may drop if you had the computer consuming excessive levels of power, not sure what point this may occur.
Additionally batterymon charge rate indicator did not support the real world test.
It seems most of the people I know who do a lot of burning and use of their superdrive's on the macbook pros are buying external optical drives because the internal optical drive in the mac is failing (not responsive or working anymore).
I'm just wondering, for expensive as Macs are, why is it that this is happening? I thought with the price one could expect high quality parts and not parts that fail within the first two years of owning the laptop.
When I adjust the refresh rate on my Z to 60 Hz and restart it, it plunges back to 40.

I have searched on Google for days and i have yet to find a definitive answer if my computer actually supports the 3GB/s transfer rate that new hdd is capable of. I do know that the drive i have is a 1.5GB/s however i have not checked it for a jumper. The hdd that my lappy shipped with has the 1.5GB/s transfer rate.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI had sent in a ticket to blizz with DxDiog and the MsInfo and they cound out there was some errors in some applications and is now fixed c: I simply just did a facotry recovery since honestly i just have steam, wow and a drawing program installed so it was nothing huge lose whne i did it. So everything is working just fine right now !  I did try the one with truing off anti aliasing and it did work as well even if my frame rate is back to it's 90+ it jumped up to 100+
So it started last saturday that my frame rate dropped drastically from 90+ to 15- on World Of Warcraft. I followed the steps that i got told with updating drivers and such, but still low and un-playable.Â

It's really strange and all, i bought this laptop for like 1 month ago and had no problems until now. There was a windows update (i use win 8.1) last week that first messed with my latency at first, but then my FPS.Â

When i play on steam per say Assasians creed and Portal i have no problem but it seems to only be on WoW.
My SXPS m1640 gets extremely hot underneath the touchpad even when I'm performing basic tasks such as browsing the web. Is that where the graphics card is located? Is it normal for the m1640's to get very hot in this area?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just got my Studio 1555 today and am having some major issues with the lid. When it's closed, if I press it lightly the lid has a lot of flex.
When I open the laptop and lightly press my fingertips into the lid I can see the imprints of my fingertips on the screen! The quality of the lid is equivalent to that of a cheap plastic child's toy.
I contacted technical support and the rep was trying to just replace the lid with another...the SAME one .....
I have a Lenovo g505s laptop , and when I play games while charging(plugged in) , the frame rates for every game drop to 15-20 fps. Is there any driver update that I require?
View 1 Replies View Relatedlately my Inspiron 1720 has been running crazy hot, and overheating (actually shutting down) while playing games (specifically Sacred 2).
For example right now I am only running Firefox and HWMonitor, and here is an excerpt from the HWMonitor report:

In fact shortly after saving that report, my computer actually shut down from heat. I have since restarted it and it is currently running at a roughly constant 52C.
The CPU gets into the 70s and overheats a lot when playing Sacred 2. However, strangely even after closing that game the temperature doesn't come down, such as what happened above .....
So lately (the last few days, just out of nowhere) I've been starting to have a problem with an XPS m1330. Every now and again the notebook starts Windows
A lot of the times it doesn't go past the welcome screen (after entering the user password etc.)
If it does get past the welcome screen it just is extremely slow for the first 5-7min then, it's normal again .....
I have been using an XPS m1530 as my primary laptop and has been always plugged in (less than 10 times completely drained).
Now, after 1 year i just reached 1h30mins with surfing & music streaming at 3 steps below the higher brightness (and at the energy save battery scheme)
My cpu core hits the mid 90's when gaming. i undervolted it to 1100v @ 11x and the temps only hit the high 80's/low 90's during gaming but hit the mid nineties in orthos and was still going up.
This is getting me down a bit cus the cpu ramps down during gaming and screws up the fps, and also im outside of the uk so cant get my laptop to dell (there are no dell suppliers where i am)
does anyone have any idea what might be wrong. am i reading the temps correctly? speedfan shows much lower temps (in the 70s) however cpuz, rightmark and hwmonitor all show temps consistent with eachother.
Its a t7500.
there's nothing blocking the outake at the back; i lifted the laptop up during orthos to let air out of the bottom but it didnt make any difference.
I've built a few desktops but i havent really tinkered with this laptop apart from adding more ram.
I've noticed when playing vidoes, the video frames update at a slower pace to the point where it feels that movie is being played in slow motion. Sometimes this conditions stays longer other for few minutes. It does not make any differene if I am streaming or playing a movie stored on the HD (machine doesn't have CD drive).

I've ensure there are no other apps running that might seep power away from main processor/RAM or video processor. All the drivers are latest & greatest and I don't see any warnings anywhere in the system manager.

It has Win 8 and Intel HD Graphics 4000 with 1.6G of video RAM which seems decent enough to play a video file smoothly.Â
When I unplug the charger, the laptop returns to normal speed. Does anyone know the reason why this is occurring and if it can be fixed?
Also, I don't think the laptop is actually charging
In the task manager I see the CPU usage at around 20% when its not plugged in, and the moment I plug it in, it goes to 100%, then I unplug it and it instantly goes back to 20%.
I have a Dell XPS 1530 and at school, my computer connects to the wireless internet fine and has normal speed as if it were connected to an ethernet cord, but at home,
it connects but is extremely slow. There are other laptops that connect to the router and they have fast speeds. My computer has vista home premium, 4 gb, intel core 2 duo cpu, t8300 @ 2.40 ghz.
My problem is that the laptop is getting extremely hot on the left side of keyboard during any games i play, even older games. I literally cannot rest my left hand to use keyboard as it is frying it.
When i initially bought the laptop 4 months ago I could play those games and the case (keyboard area including) would stay perfectly cool. I had even played need for speed hot pursuit new with full graphics and laptop was cool.
There is a definite massive difference in case temperature between initial month or so and recently.
HW monitor program recorded temperatures of 85 degrees max for i5 processor, and around 72-78 degrees on graphics card during game play on a variety of games old and new.
Worth to mention that during other lightweight activities, such as surfing etc the laptop is cool.
