My cpu core hits the mid 90's when gaming. i undervolted it to 1100v @ 11x and the temps only hit the high 80's/low 90's during gaming but hit the mid nineties in orthos and was still going up.
This is getting me down a bit cus the cpu ramps down during gaming and screws up the fps, and also im outside of the uk so cant get my laptop to dell (there are no dell suppliers where i am)
does anyone have any idea what might be wrong. am i reading the temps correctly? speedfan shows much lower temps (in the 70s) however cpuz, rightmark and hwmonitor all show temps consistent with eachother.
Its a t7500.
there's nothing blocking the outake at the back; i lifted the laptop up during orthos to let air out of the bottom but it didnt make any difference.
I've built a few desktops but i havent really tinkered with this laptop apart from adding more ram.
It seems my idle GPU temps are pretty high. I just embarked on a mission to clean my fan out. I believe I was successful, but the whole thing was a little out of my comfort zone.
I'm now experiencing slightly cooler GPU temps i think (around 42-46 C at idle) but the GPU temp at idle is at a very steady 68 - 69 C, and the fan just keeps running all the time. Maybe I should have paid more attention to what the temps were beforehand, but it's too late for that.
Was wondering if this was something to be concerned about. Do I possibly have a bad contact between the thermal system and the GPU, and should I try and connect it more securely?
I have a HP ENVY dv6-7273ca with the following system information...I am running Windows 8.1, along with HP CoolSense.  The notebook is always on a hard and flat surface, with plenty of space around it for ventilation. I periodically clear the fan vents with compressed air as preventative maintenance.  Over the past few weeks I have found that, for no apparent reason, the fan has got increasingly loader and I would experience intermittent 'black screens' at start-up.  It has now got to the stage where the fan is constantly working at a high speed, and is extremely hot to the touch.  This includes at initial start up, even after long periods of shutdown, and with no other software other than the OS running.I have always run HP Support Assistant via Windows, and there does not seem to be any issues shown by this software.  I have also tried to run the HP System Health Scan, but all I get is a constant progress bar.  I have tried this in Google Chrome and Internet Explorer.I have checked, and I have the latest BIOS update.  I am running the ENERGY STAR power option.
I am noticing my second m6400 (Qx9300, Nvidia 3700, Vista64 Ultimate, A03 bios) is behaving differently than the first. The fan is pulsing on and off at idle (left hand fan) and it's driving me nuts.
I checked with speedfan and HWmonitor and notice that it idles 59-61 degrees celsius. I think this appears to be a lot hotter than other's temps I see here. (I saw someone mentioning they idle @ 39C)
Wondering if these temps are acceptable in a laptop or not? Temps idling 3-10% cpu = 57-67C Fan feels the need to go into hairdryer mode every 5 minutes or so to bring the temp down a few C.
My friend bought a Vostro 1700 a few years ago and now i own it, but in the last 6 month or so the temps are going through the roof, i switch it on and it starts off at about 72 degrees then just goes up to about 86 and stays there, i cleaned the fan, the vents and even put a new blob of thermal paste on the cpu but it still does the same. I just did the Dell PC Diagnostic test and it says there are no hardware problems at all..Â
Alright, so to start off I'll just say that I love the DV2. I bought the dual core version loaded when it first went up for customization at the HP site. I have, however, noticed that it can run a tad hot.
When I first got it, without a cooler, the CPUs usually went from between 41c-45c from light usage, and the GPU from between 51c-55c. Even when propping the back up I only saw a drop of 1c total. I bought a small cooler for it and saw a fairly good drop. The temps of the CPU where down to 36c-39c and the gpu was down to 45c-49c with both sometimes even going lower depending on how much the AC in the house was on.
I did try some gaming on this, playing some HL2. The CPU got to 60c at the highest and the GPU also only got to about 60c while on the cooling pad.
So, a few days ago I updated my BIOS to the latest on for the DV2 from the HP site. I noticed right away that my temps where higher. The temps while on my cooler where the same as they used to be without it, and with the cooler off the GPU was getting up to 60c while at idle. I tried a few things, like setting the GPU to low power mode with the Catalyst controls, but that didn't help.
Not sure what to do I noticed this morning that I hadn't gotten SP2 for Vista yet. So I decided to get it in hopes that it would help.. now my DV2 is even hotter. On the cooling pad my CPU was at around 60c and GPU was at 65c while at idle. I've had it on all day, with all the vents in my room open and the AC up high and the lowest it's gotten is to 50c for the CPU and 55 for the GPU.
So my computer is hitting temps as high as 103 degrees Celcius according to atiTool. And by the way this is without overclocking. Its pretty clean inside (no dust and stuff). Im pretty site this is not normal...I may even call Dell about it. I have complete care for three years...
My CPU is hitting around 90°. Inside of the laptop is clean, isn't a dust issue. Could probably do with reapplying thermal paste.  Most likely culprit, however, is the fan is not hitting full speed under Windows 7 x64 regardless of the CPU temps.  It works fine in the BIOS before the W7 splashscreen starts, so it isn't a problem with the fan itself, but as soon as W7 begins booting the speed drops substantially (I can only just tell it's spinning) then stays there. Given Acer's unusual way of handling their fans Speedfan and similar are no use as the fans don't show up.I've updated to the latest BIOS and even tried installing the ePower application, but the problem is still there.
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-Z590 with windows 7 32 bit professional installed. When I switch to speed mode and hook up a monitor (24" dell LCD) via HDMI->DVI the graphics card temperature goes up to around 80-95C (measured with real temp 3.40) and the CPU temp also goes up into the 60-70s. No programs are using the CPU heavily. During this process the fans go up to max and the computer gets really loud. I have all the latest drivers installed and the latest BIOS.
I was wondering if anyone else has a problem like this? Would installing 64 bit windows 7 be better? It makes it really noisy when I hook up a monitor via HDMI. Any ideas?
Everything is perfect in stamina mode, low temps, low cpu usage.
I've been wondering if my laptop is overheating? Playing battlefield 4 at ultra settings. and my temp at cpu is 91 degrees and temp at gpu is 84 degress. gpu load 99% playing for an hour.
Recently I have purchased the Acer v15 Nitro Black Edition gaming notebook. Though I've noticed that not very intensive games are stressing my CPU to about 80-90C, which I am not entirely certain is the norm. This seems to happen primarily when the laptop is plugged in, as temps seem relatively stable when unplugged. I recently turned my CPU power down a bit (to 96%), and that has seemed to keep my temps relatively stable.
I guess my question is: Is this normal? I feel like those temps are way too high, and I fear of burning out my CPU. I am going to pickup a cooling pad today, and start using it when I play games. I am relatively certain my fans are working, but my CPU temps jump around quite a bit. I know gaming laptops are built to get hot, but the last thing I want is to burn my new toy.
2 weeks ago I noticed that my m1530 got really hot to touch after a period (~1hour) of web browsing. So I called Dell and they replaced my heatsink and CPU fan
My current temps now are as follows:
ACPI : 41-58 GPC : 58-69
after 1/2 hour of COD4, my max temps were
ACPI: 71 GPU: 79
(Used CPUID Hardware monitor) Also I am running Win7 Pro (x64) with a NC2000 notebook cooler
I always knew my comp ran hot, but not until I got HWMonitor today did I know how hot. I did a load test and CPU/GPU and ACPI temps went to 90. CPU and ACPI temps would drop to 65 ish after this, but the GPU stays kind of high in the 78-85 range. (Anyone know why this is happening?)
Also, when playing games, my temps are almost all at 87-90 all the time. I thought it might be my bios (A12), so I switched back to A09. This did not change anything.
Basically my question is, should I be calling dell support to take a look, and what do I tell them? I've never had computer warranty before. Or is there something else I can do to fix this? It's very hot to type on and sit on my lap.
A last question, these temps are being measured currently with the laptop on my desk, with the lid closed and an external monitor/keyboard/mouse plugged in. Is this causing increased temps? Should I be leaving the lid open?
Just wanted to let you know of a tech experience with dell.
I got a M1530, long story short it was a replacement of a shocking Insp 6000.
Buncha hell to get it to work right (hardware issues galore).
Ended up working with Dell Liasons to get it fixed.
It was out of warranty (only had 90 days from every repair) and it began to overheat... 75-81 idle and 95 gaming... Called my liason, and he sent me a fan replacement. Temps dropped to 59-69 idle (fan kicks on at 69), and have yet to try gaming, gonna stop gaming on it.
I get idle temps of 65-70 CPU and 70-75 GPU and gaming temps of 76-80 CPU and 85+ GPU when gaming.
Right now i've been leaning toward the method of spraying all the vents with compressed air, is there anything else I can do that doesn't involve taking apart the laptop?
Since I updated my bios I have noticed that my fans are pretty much always on high and that the heat coming out the back is a lot hotter than it used to be. Granted, I have been using the computer with my big monitor with the lid closed more now but even when I'm not doing that it's still just as hot. Has anyone else noticed this since the update?
I have my m1530 for almost two years, and in last 2 months (after I've installed windows 7) i'm having troubles with my graphic card (nvidia g8600m gt). The problem is that in every game after few minutes there is a sudden drop of FPS. For example if i have a FPS of 50 after 2-5 minutes it goes down to 20. I checked my CPU and Memory load but there is nothing strange. I have latest Nvidia drivers: 197.16 I also included as attachment a log file of GPU load and temp after playing 10 minutes of CoD 5.
I recently came across something regarding the right USB port of my M1530 (the port right below the Slot-Loading Optical Drive and next to S-Video).
The two ports on the left were full (one 160GB External HD and a Logitech V450 Mouse Receiver). When I plugged my other 80GB external hard disk to the right USB port, a pop-up box said that I should plug it into a "high-powered USB port" to maximize its performance or something.
Sure enough, when I was transferring big folders of music files, the transfer rate was very slow. So I plugged the external hard disk to one of the ports on the left, and the speed was back to normal
i set up this thread to compare the temps between windows 7 and windows vista. i googled for it but there's no comparison chart. please feel free to contribute.

windows 7:
idle: 55-60 under load: 70-80
i see that windows 7 runs noticeably cooler than windows vista. Please post your details so that other users can have an idea about what to choose if they decide to bootcamp windows.
My SXPS m1640 gets extremely hot underneath the touchpad even when I'm performing basic tasks such as browsing the web. Is that where the graphics card is located? Is it normal for the m1640's to get very hot in this area?
I just got my Studio 1555 today and am having some major issues with the lid. When it's closed, if I press it lightly the lid has a lot of flex.
When I open the laptop and lightly press my fingertips into the lid I can see the imprints of my fingertips on the screen! The quality of the lid is equivalent to that of a cheap plastic child's toy.
I contacted technical support and the rep was trying to just replace the lid with another...the SAME one .....
lately my Inspiron 1720 has been running crazy hot, and overheating (actually shutting down) while playing games (specifically Sacred 2).
For example right now I am only running Firefox and HWMonitor, and here is an excerpt from the HWMonitor report:

In fact shortly after saving that report, my computer actually shut down from heat. I have since restarted it and it is currently running at a roughly constant 52C.
The CPU gets into the 70s and overheats a lot when playing Sacred 2. However, strangely even after closing that game the temperature doesn't come down, such as what happened above .....
i have found file transfer rate is noticeably low in my XPS M1530 machine. i was transferring 1.7gb file from I partition to G partition. it started sending 22mb/sec.
then there after i found it to b reduced to 10/12 mb/sec sometimes extremely low like 3 or 4mb/sec. why is that? how can i keep it constant at 22 or 20 mb/sec transferring rate.
So lately (the last few days, just out of nowhere) I've been starting to have a problem with an XPS m1330. Every now and again the notebook starts Windows
A lot of the times it doesn't go past the welcome screen (after entering the user password etc.)
If it does get past the welcome screen it just is extremely slow for the first 5-7min then, it's normal again .....
I have been using an XPS m1530 as my primary laptop and has been always plugged in (less than 10 times completely drained).
Now, after 1 year i just reached 1h30mins with surfing & music streaming at 3 steps below the higher brightness (and at the energy save battery scheme)
