Also I have the Intel Q9000 and ATi 4670 1gb graphics card. Would I be able to upgrade these and if so what would you guys recoomend? Would the icore range work on my laptop?

Was going to use the second hard drive for a second OS and since I am waiting on Proper Windows 7 driver support for it was going to try something else out.
Anyone any information on how to reset a bios password. On Sunday evening after it coming out of sleep mode it asked me for a password? as I haven't set one and couldn't supply it with what it wanted it comes up with the message System Disabled ( 01576 ) anyone with the same problem or is there a default acer password.
I cannot access anything or boot windows as the first thing it does on start up is ask for this password.
Operating windows 7 32bit
I have just received an Acer 8935g and as there seems very little info on it I thought I would post up my initial impressions and add some photo's later.
Reasons for buying - I wanted a desktop replacement with decent sound quality and decent gaming quality so I can finally ditch my desktop. I have bought plenty of laptops in the past which have all been great for the odd LAN parties but would never replace my desktop. I am happy to say so far so good.
So first things first, Acers website is shocking and is very short of info. I spent days trying to dig up info on this model with very little success. The main thing that had been holding me back is the gfx card, in 1 sentence it says 4670 and in the next it says 4650. My main concern was that the 4650 would contain ddr2 ram.
I am pleased to confirm my model has the 4670. I went for the lower end model with P7350 as I already have a decent CPU to switch into it.
Build Quality - I have heard rumours of poor build quality and poor QA from Acer but I am happy to say my laptop is perfect, the construction seems solid and no defects to be found. It is very heavy at 4.1kgs but this is a desktop replacement for me, I wont be lugging it around on a daily basis ( I have a Dell studio 1555 for that)
Screen - The screen quality is average at best. It is far lower quality than my dell 1555 1080p screen. Although it is LED it does not have great brightness so I wont be using this outdoors. Also it is very glossy so lots of reflections. The contrast is also only average and colours look a little washed out. That being said Blurays looked good and 3dmark06 looked good, I am yet to install any games.
Keyboard - The keyboard is very good and easy to type on, it also has all the keys of a full size keyboard (so no Fn plus key for home etc). The keyboard is also backlit, I always thought backlit keyboards were a gimmick but now I have used one I would never go back, especially if like me you use your laptop in low light...........
I've just purchased a brand new acer 8935G and I just want to say what a mistake that was so far.I received delivery last Wednesday but the windows 7 upgrade disc was missing,it took me 2 days and loads of calls and emails to get it sent out.It arrived Friday so I unpacked computer and then noticed the back lit keyboard wasn't working. Contacted retailer they said I had to contact acer technical and get a returns number before they could do anything .
So I emailed Acer on Friday and explained as I was about to load windows 7 upgrade onto the computer but on checking it out I noticed the back lit keyboard wasn't working . Got an email back Monday totally unrelated to my question stating as it was a software problem and I had to contact a premium rate number .50 p a minute yeh right
So this morning I tried and tried to get trough to the customer services technical hardware) help line finally got through at .10p a minute and what a carry on. Don,t forget this is a brand new unused 8935G just unpacked . I had to go through about 20 mins of questions with a male who I couldn't understand a word of what he was saying and he definatly couldn't understand me .
In the end I asked for the ref no and he tried & tried to get me to return it for repair he said a week at least! stuff that
So I got back on to the retailer(simplyacer.com) customer services sixth in the cue and waited & waited ,eventually got through and was told ,the returns department would call back within the next 10 mins and they would arrange collection today (11am)
At 3pm still no call ,so I emailed them twice I received a read reply , but no answer and no reply to my question . Back on the phone again and 8th in line ,so I hung up
At 4pm receive a call from the returns department,He asked what the problem was and when I told him he replied Oh I didn't realise the 8935g key board was back lit . I lost it a little I'm afraid, told him to get it sorted I want a new computer not a repaired one . Their collecting tomorrow but I'm not sure what the outcome will be . Am I being unfair on insisting on a new computer with the service I've received so far? or should I insist on a full refund and go somewhere else and buy a different model and tell them to stuff it.
just recieved the upgrade in the mail yesterday (finally hehe) well install went real smooth but once into windows 7 and all drivers installed i go to windows updates and theres a recomended for the ATI video card.
Now I don't want to do this because of all the problems we had with this system during the beta and video card drivers, has anyone tried the window updated drivers?
I am looking for a laptop that I can use as a media centre, as well as my main computer.
It is to replace my desktop (which currently went bang) and my DVD player (seen better days). There are some obvious requirements, but I cannot seem to find definitive answers from the manufacturers (Acer told me to contact Toshiba and vice versa!) or stockists so I am not yet happy to part with my cash (at least without an option to replace or get my money back).
I am looking at an Acer Aspire 8935G / 8735G with a Blue-Ray player.
I will HDMI the laptop into my Toshiba 32” LCD (32WLT66), which has a standard widescreen display (16:9, as opposed to the film-style 2.40:1 ratio that I believe these Acers have) and has a resolution of 1366 x 768. It will display 1080i and 720p, but not 1080p.
Can somebody please answer the following questions, as well as possibly suggesting alternatives around the same budget if they will do a better job (£1k)?
Generally how will the picture look on the Toshiba? Will the Acer output 1080i? Or if not what will be the best resolution possible, and will it be worthy of blu-ray?
When playing a DVD with a tv-style widescreen format (16:9) presumably the Acer itself will have bars down the sides when playing full screen (side panel format)? Is this correct? What about the Toshiba as this already has a 16:9 ratio?
Reversing the question above, when playing a film-style 2.40:1 the Acer itself will look great presumably, will the Toshiba just have the usual bars at the top and bottom and look decent?
The Acer has a line-out with S/PDIF support, which I really want as I will be lining the sound into an AV amp. My AV amp is a few years old, it processes Dolby Digital, DTS as well as the old pro-logic, but it is too old to recognise Dolby Digital Live which is supported by the Acer. Is the original DD backwards compatible with DD Live? i.e. will my amp pick up DD from the Acer?..............
Are the new models by Acer, the 8935G and the 5935G, based on the Gemstone Blue design?
Because both look very different from the 6935G, 8930G etc.
Is that a new design and Acer hasn't announced it yet?
I finally got my Acer 8935G, and right away, wiped the hard drive clean of all the crap that comes on notebooks. In this process, I removed the "recover" partition... didn't think much of it at the time until I realized they didn't include a single CD with drivers or OS. Oh well, thats not the issue.
I loaded the computer up with the RC version of Windows 7 - and everything seems to be working great, except, the LCD is using the built in Express Intel 45 Display Chipset, and no the ATI Radeon 4670.
I have both devises listed in my Hardware Manage, and under display properties, but I am unable to set the screen to use the proper display adapter...
My other issue is - acer doesn't even have this model listed on their website as it is so new - they don't have any place to download drivers and neither does anywhere on the internet.

I've installed a second hd in my 8935g for an xp install, and got a couple of q's before I get stuck in.
1. is there way to install windows XP as a "genuine" acer oem install "like the "genuine win 7 install procedure"?
2. And is there info on ways to recreate the "acer arcade" button usage to boot win 7 and a full xp from the new disc depending on wether I press power button or media button.?
I've done some searching and found some good info, especially re ACHI slipstreaming, but haven't found anyone using the arcade button for an alternative boot method (other than to force different video card in win 7)
- is-it possible to put two hard drive and enable raid fonction, i saw that it's possible to put two hard drive but on the bios there nothing
- is-it possible to install another OS ( Vista 64 or Seven 64 ) ? I read there are problem with the driver for the video card.
I have a new Aspire 8935G with Realtek audio (AL889, if I read it well) and I'm not able to use digital output.
I tried using a common stereo jack to RCA cable, using just the left (black) RCA to plug into the digital COAX input of my ampilfier, but nothing came from the speakers.
Do you know how to setup the digital output of the Aspire?
Got a 8935g, q9000 1tb 4gb ddr3 and ati 4670 1gb.
I am very computer savy and have built my own systems and overclocked etc for many years but this is my first laptop so any thing you think I should know just tell me.
Here I go , Why does this laptop have 5gb (4gb system ram and 1gb on the gpu) and a 32bit OS? I am waiting on the windows 7 upgrade but that will also be 32bit, Can I download a copy of windows 7 home premium x64 and use my genuine key, And if I do this can I get all the apps and drivers I need for full functionality of the laptop?
Also, When I turned it on brand new it is using 43% system memory, How much crap is on this thing lol? Is the upgrade cd for windows 7 a full new install or does it just upgrade the os without formatting the drive? Will the drivers needed for the laptop be bundled in the upgrade cd?
Anyone overclocked the cpu or gpu in this lappy?
I have an Acer 5610-4610 system. It was repartitioned to one XP drive for several years. I am finally wanting to put the PQ service partition back on it but none of the folders of the restore CD's have any of the files needed to recreate this partition. I am wanting to put the factory (VISTA Home Premium) system on C. With all the system files and folders from the 3 restore CD's into the PQSERVICE partition. I have no clue how to proceed.
I do remember there was an acer(C) partition and a data (D) partition when I got it. The PQSERVICE partition was there back then.
The first (System) CD has none of the files mbrwrdos.exe or rtmbr.bin
used to create the PQSERVICE system.
I run the ACER Disk Formatter and it cannot find any drives on the laptop.
Weird! From what I've been able to glean my thought was that that the Formatter disk would facilitate creating the correct partitions?
im going to clean upgrade to win 7 64 bit, after i do that i know acer do drivers for web cam ect... but can i download acer software eg Empowering Technology, Acer Arcade Deluxe ect.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI successfully upgrade an old laptop so that it will run well and not be too costly to upgrade either? So slow at present....
Laptop is:
acer travelmate 4502WLMi running xpsp3
Was thinking that probably the only upgrades worth considering were ram and hdd.
If this is the case what size mem and spec will work?
If the hdd is worth upgrading do I go for internal or external? and what size ?
Compaq Presario A931NR or Acer Aspire AS7720-6569?
Wondering which is the better choice? ...
Recently I developed this simple application that lets you easily configure CineDash and other buttons functions on Acer laptops. This application, “Acer CineDash Config”, is mainly for mine purposes.
I tested it on my Acer 6935G and Windows 7 64bit version. It probably should work on other models and systems to.
Some of the features that Acer CineDash Config supports are:
•32bit and 64bit systems
•Configuring applications to run and captions for buttons:oArcade DeluxeoEmpowering tech.oInternetoE-Mail•Making and restoring registry backup
•Enabling media keys to work with other programs, like winamp, and restoring original key mapping file

I have a wireless network setup between my desktop w/xp pro an my laptop w/vista home preminum Acer 5570Z.
My laptop can open drives & folders on my desktop, but my desktop can't open drives or folders on my laptop it says I don't have permission. I fixed this once before but can't remember what I did.
I have an Acer 6930ZG with a fresh install of windows 7 RC 32bit. I can play Call Of Duty 4, Counter Strike, Flatout 2 etc. with no problems! But when I try to open MapleStory a blue screen appears, and begin to make a physcial memory dump? . MapleStory is a 2D-game, and Call Of Duty requires much more.
I made a little research, and I found out that alot of people have the same problem, and they said it was caused by a conflict with a program or hardware drivers. I have tried to delete my NVIDIA driver, and install it again. No luck.
And yes, I have also tried to run MapleStory in compatibily mode
As I said: It's only in MapleStory I experience the problem, and I don't think it's ram-failure, since I have seen the same problem on a different computer, and I can play Call of Duty 4.
Here is the system log:

View 10 Replies View RelatedI had vista installed on my laptop, Acer 6920, (first OS) and it was direct from factory so everything worked fine. I then installed ubuntu and everything still worked fine. I then deinstalled both of those to put on windows 7 RC where all my hardware was working perfectly (minus the fingerprint reader but i honestly couldnt care about that thing) so my computer eventually got pretty bogged down with crap to the point where boot was about 30 minutes. during this whole time my sound seemed to work, but near the end windows stopped finding any internal sound related hardware (the speakers and the mic). For other reasons i did a clean reformat (3 times) and reinstalled 7 Professional 32 bit and when i booted i downloaded all the drivers and everything seemed to install correctly, but when i rebooted the sound still didnt work nor did the mic. the exact error message windows is giving me is "No Audio Output Device found" however when i plug in a headset or a bluetooth adapter + headphones there is audio and it works perfectly. I really need sound to work as some programs crash if they dont detect a sound output and also for monitoring audio recordings.
I have tried installing all of Realtek's drivers. Literally all of them. None of them worked what so ever despite clean installs and deinstalls.
I now am running 64bit and ive almost given up on this problem. I bearly saved this computer and i dont wanna have to buy a new because of sucha stupid issue like this.
More info:
Under the hardware manager in windows there is no tree for sound devices. there was an unknown component which i put forceware on as i thought it was the sound device but no go.
