Aug 7, 2008i have a ACER 5101 laptop. suddenly one day my keypad and touchpad is not working,
i cant even go to Bios by pressing F2. only sometimes Fn+F6 works.

1) Backlight not working, not sure whether I've this service or not because I can't see anything in Windows Mobility Centre
2) Keyboard and mouse pad works in safe mode but not in normal mode.
When I tried to remove Cypress trackpad, only mouse pad worked, not keyboard. Now only keyboard is working after Cypress trackpad reinstallation? I've tried to resolve it many times using drivers updater but failed all the time.

Sep 21, 2008Just taken ownership of a 2nd hand 5101. looks like it has been reset back to factory settings but the built in orbicam doesn't seem to work properly !
I have tried reading various posts, I have tried to install both the bison and logitech drivers , but all I get is a greyed out screen no matter what I am using ...msn messenger, orbicam software, etc ...
going through the hardware check etc , it says all ok with cam ?
I am running XP on it !

Jun 14, 2008swapping the cpu on my acer 5101 to a dual core. The manual says in can take dual core cpu's but I swaped the mk36 single core for a tl50 1.6ghz dual core and it does not work (tried 2 different dual core cpu's). The machine does not boot. I have the newest bios 3.10a .

I've upgraded the RAM memory to 4GB and I'm going to upgrade also the OS (Win XP) to Win XP 64bit (BTW not with Win XP professional x64, simply the 64 bit version of XP) to use the RAM fully...
Well, searching infos about my RAM, I've seen, with a small software (CPU-Z), that my socket is the S1 (638 pins) model, and searching in the web I've found that this one is used also for processors like the Turion64 X2 (that, if I'm not wrong, is the AMD dual core, isn't it?)...
Now my question is: Can I change my CPU upgrading it with a dual core one?
If yes: What kind of dual core CPU can I put on?!? The Turion64 X2 only, or also something better?
Another little question: if I upgrade also my hard disk to something like a 7.2k rpm one (from mine, that's a 5k rpm), it's better or indifferent? There will be an increase in speed or it's only a way to waste my cash ?
Acer :: Aspire 5101 Memory Test Errors
Feb 28, 2008My Acer Aspire 5101 wasn't running very fast so after the usual anti-spyware and anti-virus programs I tried the Windows Memory Diagnostic program booting from cd.
My laptop came with two sticks of 512MB DDR2 RAM. I got fails on wmats+ so I tried each stick seperately in both slots. I got the same errors for each stick in either slot.
I don't know what to do now. My laptop is out of warranty so if I want to speak to Acer technical support there's a 50p/min helpline. I thought I'd ask for advice on this forum first to see if anyone had any other advice before I end up spending a fortune on the phone.

Apr 6, 2009When Windows is finished loading my touch and key pad seems to turn off. My device manager does not indicate any problems with either. In safe mode everything works fine. Since I did not have anything valuable stored I used the acer recovery and had it reinstall Windows fresh. After that, it seems to work fine with no problems.
Auto updates starting downloading and after updates are installed I have the same problem again. I have done this procedure a few times. I have also install AVG Anit virus and thought maybe thats what was doing, so this last time I did not re install the anti virus.

Feb 25, 2010I just got the new acer 5740-6491 model and the alps touchpad (multi-touch) does not work well.
When in use the cursor jumps around the screen very erratically.
Ive tried reinstalling the driver and using the synaptics driver as well. Neither work.
Does anyone have support in this issue? Basically all I want is to scroll on the touchpad and doubleclick.

Nov 16, 2014Early morning, i get up and go to my laptop for work emails and facebook, START ERROR.
After a shower and breakfast, it starts then TOUCHPAD ERROR.
Bring it to office and get there 9:00 a.m, run TOUCHPAD then good but WIRELESS LAN ERROR.
Before i manage my office works, run WIRELESS LAN then good but goes to BLACK SCREEN ERROR.
After half an hour talks for stuffs, BLACK SCREEN ok then AUTO RESTART ERROR.
Half an hour later, it come back to windows very well but FAN is still sleeping.
Emails, market data pages are running. So I keep to carry on without FAN working. Some minutes later, SHUT DOWN automatically.
Try to restart, cleverly comes to windows back and FAN also works very well but CD comes out without commands.Then to lunch.
After lunch, i resume my works. My laptop is also again to above ERRORS.Then go back to my home at 6:00 p.m.

Nov 17, 2008about 2 months ago i bought an Acer 5920G, a week or so ago suddenly the touchpad stopped working, i dont recall how it happened, i think i just booted Windows Vista as i usually do and the touchpad didnt work when i tried to click my user name so i could enter my password to logon.
I thought maybe the driver had gone bad so i rebooted and booted Windows XP( on a different partition) and in windows xp the touchpad also didnt work anymore.
Is this a hardware failure? Or are there other possibilities? I tried removing the driver and reinstalling, but it still didnt work.

Feb 24, 20152 days ago I bought a acer notebook. The touchpad is working but not the gestures. If i go to the "mouse settings", there are no specific settings for my touchpad. Just the normal mouse settings like pointer speed. I already downloaded the 2 driver which are on the acer support site: TouchPad_Synaptics_18.1.2.1_W81x64_A and TouchPad_ELANTECH_13.6.1.1_W81x64_A. I have installed boot of them sucesfully (there was the green pick).
Also for ur info there are no warning signes for unknown devices in the device manager.

Feb 11, 2015How to get my Acer Aspire E15 laptop (E5-571P-55TL) touchpad working again? It worked when I began using it in January and now does not, and I have been checking the FAQs and spent hours also looking for and downloading user guide info which did not work (maybe I did not EXTRACT it correctly). The little mousepad or touchpad below the physical keyboard.
I use Google Chrome, not Internet Explorer, by the way, and not the Microsoft Account login stuff, which is messing me up too, as first I had to create a password to login to my laptop,then apparently it wants me to create and use another password and login email, which apparently I did once after some problems with it,and now I cannot get it to let me login OR send me a forgotten password for Microsoft Account. It wants to call me at a number whose last 2 digits displayed are not mine!
Acer Aspire V5 :: TouchPad Gestures Not Working
Jul 25, 2013I first noticed the issue with sensitivity. The mouse was really sensitive. I then noticed that the gestures don't work either. I cannot scroll using the mouse. So I went into great depths and tried to figure out the problem (but no solution).
So I performed these steps:
-Changed the pointer speed to the fastest (I didn't like the slow pointer speed). The pointer was still pretty slow.
-Decided to change the TouchPad specific drivers. I go to the ELAN tab under mouse settings. I look and see that the "Options" button is greyed out. I also noticed that it said "Standard PS/2 Mouse"I decide to find the software to change the settings and located it in C:Program FilesElantech. I open ETDAniConf.exe and decide to do a test. I uncheck the right click and left click, and some other scroll settings. No avail.
-Then I decide to uninstall and install the drivers. Did that. Nothing changed. Changing the tapping, button, scrolling options does nothing. The mouse settings still shows it as "Standard PS/2 Mouse" even though the tab says ELAN.
-I decide to take a big step and just reinstall Windows 8 altogether using Acer Recovery. Reinstalled it, still facing the same issue. Still recognized as "Standard PS/2" mouse.
-I try another way to attempt to fix the issue. I try to find the most up to date similar driver. I located on that was much newer (2013 version rather than 08.2012). Installed it, restarted computer. Still no avail. Still recognized as "Standard PS/2 Mouse".I decided to go the last route before posting the issue here. I downloaded a copy of Windows 8 Pro from Microsoft website and transferred the ISO into the bootable flash drive. I split the hard drive into a clean partition (60GB) and installed fresh Windows 8 Pro on it, without all the Acer Drivers. Of couse I was missing the network drivers so I had to go on my Desktop to download the drivers online.
- I decide to first go and download the TouchPad drivers. Downloaded them, copied on a Flash Drive, ran them on the Acer laptop. Restarted computer. Still facing the issue.
I got the laptop for a good discount from my work (as a bonus of working there). It was a one time discount. As you noticed, I mentioned that it was recognizing it as "Standard PS/2 Mouse". That is the huge clue that tells me that the drivers are really buggy. The issue here is that the TouchPad drivers are not recognized like it is a TouchPad, but as a Mouse. A mouse that can only do right click, left click.

The touchpad was working very well and smoothly but suddenly one day, it stopped working. I thought it happened because I was using Windows 7 so I installed Windows 8.1 hoping that everything would be okay but even during the Windows installation, I had to use keyboard commands. The touchpad didn't work at all. It is not working even after the Window has been completely installed. For an alternative, I am using an USB mouse. And, do not suggest me Fn + F7 because I am not that dumb to not to know that simple trick. My keypad is not working at all!

Feb 27, 2015I rarely use the laptop's touch pad and use a wireless USB mouse. I forgot my mouse and the touch pad wouldn't work when I started up laptop. Borrowed someone's wired USB mouse and it worked, so I ran to Walmart and picked up a $7 wired mouse.
Control Panel > Programs and Features > Elan > Unistall > Reboot = Touch pad now working.
But apparently the Elan didn't reinstall as I don't see it anymore in the Programs and Features list. I thought about downloading and installing the Elan drivers, but I don't want to "fix" something that isn't broken right now.

Nov 13, 2009Has anyone experienced a problem with Acer notebooks where when the user presses any key on the keyboard, the touchpad gets disabled? The 8940G we are reviewing has this problem and I have never seen this happen before. When the touchpad stops functioning the little Synaptics status thing on the taskbar still shows the sensitivity blob when you finger presses the touchpad. This tells me it is still working but something else is interfering.
I have looked around the Synaptics menu for anything relating to this feature and found nothing. I disabled the "hide cursor when typing" feature in Windows already and that didnt fix it.

Nov 1, 2007I've fot Acer Aspire 9423WSMi laptop with Vista Home premium preinstalled. Untill recently, it worked just fine, but the other day, my navigation keys on the touchpad just stopped responding (everything else on the pad works OK). I've tried to update the driver, but the response was that I'm using the latest driver and the device is working propperly. I've also tried switching the pad ON/OFF with Fn+F7 but to no avail.
