The instruction booklet says there is a 2GB limit, and that I can only use two 1GBs. That sucks because it comes with two 512MBs. Is this true, or could I go buy a 2GB DDR2 and replace one of the 512MBs? It's a Acer Aspire 5315-2153.
I've recently posted a question here Total Memory in task manager incorrect after upgrade to 4gb Aspire 5735 where I received some great help. However I've done a bit more research and I'm starting to fear my notebook may be limited to 3gb by the bios/chipset for some reason. I have just upgraded it from 3gb to 4gb. The bios shows 4gb as the installed amount but memtest in dos mode only shows 3000mb total as does windows task manager.
So it appears the notebook detects the 4gb installed ram but only allocated 3gb.
My question is does anyone know if acer has limited this notebook to 3gb total and if there are any suggestions on getting around this limit?
I got a problem with my Acer Aspire 5315. The HDD is shown in the bios but won't show in Vista most of the time. The HDD is completely formated, including the Acer partition. So recovery is not an option.
The problem is strange because it is not consistent. Sometimes I am able to acces the drive and install Vista. But then the next day, when i try to boot again, i only see a cursor after the Acer boot screen.
I've tried running in IDE mode. I also tried replacing the HDD with a new one. I installed vista with the correct Intel driver.
I also tried running Linux live cd. It also sees the HDD drive correctly but when i try to acces it, the program freeses.
I'm affraid something is wrong with the I/O controller, or it is a loose cable. If you think otherwise, please let me know. If not, i'd like to know how I can check the HDD cable.
i upgraded my aspire 5315 from vista basic 2 vista premium. it took a lot of space on the hard drive so i tried 2 reset 2 factory settings by alt/f10 but nothing nothing happened . has the upgrade removed my recovery ghost partition. my hard drive has been partitioned c/and d/ drives the d drive has files in it. i tried alt/f10 again and there was loads of beebing i switched of the lap top asap rebooted now the acer logo does not come up anymore, boots 2 os screen.
My aspire 5315 over heats occasionally and when i am using it it shuts down due to heating problems. I use "notebook hardware control 2.0" to monitor my hardware, and at time it shows my cpu temp to be 98 degree centigrade, at 99 it shuts down.
So what im asking that is this a normal issue, do you guys owning this model have this problem as well.
Today i used "Speedfan" to find out any info about my cpu fans, but it gave me no info, like no fans found.
Can some one install this app in their aspire 5315 and tell me if u get the same results.
edit: k even if someone else does not have this app or does not want to install it. i stilll find it a bit odd for a laptop to be with out a cpu fan, dont u.
like this is how the normal operation of speddfan should look like, " i ran it on my desktop pc"
I downloaded the new BIOS for the 5315 and went to run it tonight. It said I had 1.22 and the new BIOS was 1.25. I double clicked the BIOS program, said to close all other programs so I did, and then clicked START. It got about 1/10 of the way through and then said something about a read error (I can't remember exactly). It completely froze my system where I couldn't even force power off by holding the power button. Acer tech support said that flashing the BIOS isn't covered under warrantee and it's $100 to send it in and get them to replace the mobo. He also kept saying that there are ways to fix this myself, just to look online. I have tried force powering it off by unplugging the power and unplugging the battery. Now it won't turn on at all.
I can't seem to find a replacement battery for my aspire, all I find is 14.4 or 14.8 volt batteries. Does anyone know where I could order one online? (# on battery is AS07B41)
i just downgraded my new acer aspire 5315 from vista to XP, however now i am getting no sounds output at all just beeps! I have installed the Realtek HD Audio driver and removed it a number of times but no sound at any time..
I recently upgraded the ram in my 5315 with 2x1GB 5300 DDR2 sticks. Ever scince i did the upgrade i have had the Memory Management Blue screen about once every 3days. The sitcks are installed correctly and ive even tried swapping the order of the sitcks in the slots and i still have this problem. running Vista Basic 32-Bit
I've got an Acer Aspire 5315 and for some reason the laptop has stopped working correctly. The laptop will turn on and work fine when the battery is in, but when I try and charge the battery from the PSU plugged in nothing happens and the battery is starting to drain. I've taken the battery out and tried to power the laptop up but there seems to be no power getting to the laptop. The PSU is showing a green light on the block. I have also been advised that it could be the AC socket on the laptop, but I've now replaced this and its still not working.
I haven't got another PSU. Could there be any other reason why the laptop wont turn on?
Problem-- When you Turn on my acer 5315 laptop a blank black screen comes up after the acer logo appears. If you press any key a loud beep noice sounds.
Solutions I have Tried-- Well i started with using the preloaded restore to factory defults and I got an error message at about 99 percent. The error was- Restore Failed- Reason oxd0000001d - or close to that. I figured maybe the backup partiton was screwed up so I pulled out the old recovery cd's I purchased from acer. The same thing showed up. I then figured i should call acer. I called and they told me to use the acer post disk formatter. I tried that and it still did not help the problem. I have no where else to turn so thougt maybe you guys could help.
By the way This is some of my system specs--

Second time this has happened. I've downloaded the BIOS update from Acer's website.
Closed all programs, disabled the antivirus and went to flash it. Right after clicking start I get a Verify Error and the sytem freezes and is a dead unit. First time this happened they tried to tell me it was something like $150 to fix even though I did everything right. Now I went to do it again, same thing. Now Acer is telling me it will cost $450 to fix it. It's only 3 months old. They are also saying they are not responsible for anything downloaded from their web site.
So, couple questions. Has anyone successfully flashed their BIOS to 1.34? Does anyone know where you can buy motherboards cheap?
I've got an Acer Aspire 5315 with the Mobile Intel GMA X3100 in it as standard on the motherboard. Granted this isnt a great card for a lot of (or any) modern games, but I was wondering if it's possible to have another (better) graphics card put in it?..
Maybe a better processor too, because its got a Celeron 550, but the graphics card is priority at the mo.
I have an Acer Aspire 5315 laptop, which is just over a year old. A few weeks ago, it powered off suddenly. I tried to power it back on, but it wouldn't. I tried booting it with/without the battery and AC adapter, but no luck. The power light does not come on, and fans do not turn on. However, the battery charging light was unaffected, and still turned from amber to green when the battery finished charging.
Then, a few days later, I pulled the battery out and left it out of the laptop overnight, and when i put it back in in the morning, the laptop powered on again.
But - after a couple hours of running fine again, the laptop shut off suddenly again, and wouldn't turn back on. I got it running again after 10 minutes of fiddling around.
Since it was on again, I shut it down using windows and it turned off normally, and powered back on first try. I tried this several times and it always powered back on first try when it was properly shut down using windows. At this point, I assumed everything was good to go, but the laptop shut down again suddenly and I haven't been able to get it turned on again for 2 days now.
Even when the laptop won't start, the battery still charges using the AC adapter; I can tell from the LED on the front of the laptop.
I have the acer aspire 5315 and want to change from Vista to XP pro. How do I do this? I have an XP disc. Do I just put it in the cd-rom? Do I need to install extra drivers, and will the computer except this?
Hoping to upgrade my daughters 5315 from a celeron 530 to a core 2 duo. So many pages about doing this but my main question is which processors will it accept. CPUID says its a mPGA478 socket but not sure about the chipset whether 960 or 965. Already upgraded to latest bios 1.45.
My Father has given me his Acer Aspire 5315. It is full of stuff i dont even need. It is quite slow aswell. I was just wondering is there a way i can delete all programs but keep Windows. I would like it so it exactly how it was in it came out of the box with all drivers installed. I only want to do this because i dont have a Windows Vista Disc or any Driver's for the laptop.
i have bios 1.27 and want to install the latest but am a bit worried about bricking the thing, my fan never seems to be off anymore and the indle temp is between 46 & 51 degrees is this normal for this model. Can i use a memory stick to flash the bios from dos ? cos a dont want to use windows killed my old hp laptop flashing in windows. Anyone have a safe cant fail method of upgrading this bios.
my boyfriend's laptop, an acer aspire 5315, will turn on but the screen stays blank.. doesnt even light up.. i plugged an exterior monitor into it.. and that didnt work either.. so its eaither the mother board or the graphics card. the latpop still turns on and it looks for a CD in the tray because of the blinking light and i can hear it do so... so the mother board isnt dead... so it MUST be the graphics card... thing is, i think its integrated.. can anyone help? is it even possible to replace an integrated video card?
I need to know how to get the memory cover off. Even after removing the four screws it acts like one corner near the indent by the RAM icon is snapped into it or glued down. The cover is huge, over half the bottom of the case.
I'm also interested in upgrading the 1.73 Ghz Celeron M 530 if it's possible. Eventually I plan to upgrade the DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive to a DVD burner, so the manual will be handy for that too.
My touchpad broke days after I got the laptop, I go to Acers site for drivers and then when I download them I get told they have errors. I cant click or scroll with the buttins either, it is utterly useless and I am having to use a terrible USB ball mouse.
I bought a samsung TV (LE19R86BD) to use mainly for a dual monitor setup with my laptop.
The supposed max resolution is 1440x900, however the only suitable options listed are 1280*768 (16:9/10) (what I currently use) and 1600*900 (the number of pixels are correct vertically, but it is squashed horizontally). Many other resolutions, none compatible, are listed up to 2048*1536. I have a second lower quality vga cable, which when I bought the Monitor, I managed to use it at 1440*900, but it causes ghosting. However, it no longer gives the option for 1440*900, and gives the same options as the high quality one.
(I haven't used it in almost a year)
I was wondering if there would be a way to force the resolution change, or maybe video driver update would help? (intel x3100/GMA965)
I recently got an Aspire 5315 laptop and have been slowly getting it set up to run XP instead of Vista. However, the one problem I am having at the moment is with the Intel X3100 Graphics Accelerator. I have looked all over the internet and can't seem to find any info on how I can define the memory that is allocated to the card, it's all well and good the card using dynamic memory allocation but it's not allocating enough memory. I want to have a fixed 128MB dedicated to the graphics but I can't see any way of doing this either via the Intel software or the BIOS.
I thought I ought to be able to assign a minimum memory amount via the BIOS but graphics memory is locked on my BIOS setting. Would flashing to a later BIOS fix this?
