it boots to the acer start screen where you can press F2 to get in to bios but nothing happens when I press F2 and it justs goes to this screen:
And this text is on for like 3 secs then goes away then comes back for 3 secs and so on.
If I put in the acer recovery cd it loads the image file, then theres just a green background with a mouse pointer and the mouse is not functional..
Doesent sound good, right?
there is no HDD in it.
I have had a breakthrough in my laptop experience. I actually opened it up.
I followed the manual and no problems as of yet.
My question is the point in me opening up my laptop was to find the motherboard make and model and revision version number. I was checking to see if there was a bios update for this laptop and the advice given was to get the exact motherboard make etc..
and the best advice on how to get an exact match was to open it up. I did and I searched as far as my cheap tools would let me. I was able to remove the cpu fan but when I went to remove the cpu heatsink I could not get the screws to budge. According to the manual the cpu is beneath the cpu heat sink and this is where I thought I needed to go to find the motherboard make and model etc...
i'd like to input an ICL 50 inside of an Aspire 5100, but i have no idea if it will enter ? i know where to find the mobo.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer 5100 and the touch pad has died ( including all the buttons ). Was perfect one day , turned it on the next day and it was dead. I'm surviving on an old IBM mouse plugged into USB port at present.
Have checked the mouse properties and it says it is working properly ( which it obviously isn't ) . Have uninstalled and re-installed including checking for latest driver on line . The mouse properties still tell me everything is working properly .
It started with a faulty power cord with bad connection that resulted in interrupted power supply (after the slightest movement of the power cord computer showed the battery icon and the screen backlight dimmed - as if there was no power).
I managed to deal with that just fine until the computer started a bad habbit of draining the battery and running out of juice when left ON overnight with the power cord connected. SOmehow it lost the power connection even when I didn't even touch it.
I still didn't pay much attention to that until about a week ago it refused to turn on at all. It does not charge the battery, insted it makes a strange ticking noise, sometimes the charging light flashes sometimes it's constantly on, indicating that it's charging when it really isn't. Whith battery removed, it still won't turn on. It turns on for a split second and then it's off again, followed by that strange ticking sound.
A opened it up, removed all the removable components from it (HDD, DVD drive, RAM, CPU FAN, battery) and still the same wierd behavior. The ticking sound comes from somwhere under the power button, I can't precisely locate it but it's pretty loud.
As a computer it still works. I know that because when there was still a little reserve left in the battery it booted up until the Windows dektop before it ran out of juice. I think with a fully charged battery it would work 100% fine. But the problem is that laptop itself isn't charging the battery anymore and the AC is not provided directly to the system either. So I can't use it anyway.
Some sort of power supply subsystem must be dead but I am afraid that it's integrated in the motherboard. And if that's the case, it would cost a fortune to replace.
Do I have chances of cheap repair that does not involve replacement of motherboard?
Any retailers online sell just the motherboard? Or should we go ahead and just get a refurbed e1705 and salvage the hard drive and processor?
View 12 Replies View RelatedOn the back of my Sony laptop, the model says PCG-6L2L, but when I took it in to servicing to a SONY authorized dealer for a diagnosis, the paper it came back with said Model VGNSZ260P. What's up with that? Is this the same thing, just different numbers? My laptop is a Z series, but nowhere on my laptop does it say anything about Z series or VGN. Similarily, my friend just bought a brand new Z series laptop that was sold as a VGN (over $2500), yet again, on the back of his there is a PCG model number and nowhere does it say anything about VGN or Z series?
Secondly, and more importantly.
The diagnosis came back negative. Everything works (cpu, ram, video, lcd, etc etc), but the actual system board, motherboard, is dead. When I boot up, it shows the SONY screen and I can get to BIOS, but as soon as it hits bios, or about 5 seconds after SONY symbol, everything freezes.
Naturally, the $800 they wanted is ridiculous. I am very tech savvy, especially with computers, I've been building them for a very long time, but have little experience with laptops. I am convinced that I can fix this if I can find a motherboard for it....
After a night away from town, leaving my laptop on as I usually do, came back to find a black screen with computer still running. I suspect Windows Update ran and had trouble with something. Powered off, turned back on, and the startup hung as the OS was loading.
Safe mode said the hang was at crcdisk.sys (I searched for this on the internet, but was not able to do much with it, as will soon be seen). I got my Vista installation CD and tried to boot from it, but it would not -- not even if I removed the hard drive from the computer. A friend had a similar laptop, and we exchanged hard drives; his would not boot in mine, but mine would in his (all data intact). I tried reseating the RAM;
no good. Another friend lent me a Ubuntu boot cd, which also did not complete loading. Long story short, I can't get anywhere where I can do anything meaningfully useful. I can't get to a command line to run chkdsk, or to the internet to flash my BIOS, or to a text editor to write papers for school. The people I've talked with say probably the motherboard is bad.
I was able to get to an unhelpful IT fellow for a few minutes, and he was able to boot Windows 98 from CD, but he didn't let me do anything, or have the CD. I'm going to try to find one and see what I can do from it .....
My wife's T400 (2767-CP9) died recently. The beep codes indicate a dead motherboard. Her HD is fine and in fact I was able to pull off data after putting the HD in another laptop and booting with a live Linux CD. So...the data is recovered and safe with nothing lost.
Question is: I have found a few used T400's and am about to purchase one very close to hers and was curious if I would be able to just put her HD in the machine and just go from there.
The machine in question is also a T400, but the exact model number is 2767-H7U. Would the difference between a 2767-CP9 and 2767-H7U matter?

The only difference besides batteries seems to be the processor.If windows balks at this, can I just do a "product recovery" in the new machine with the old HD? The only reason this is an issue is.....her laptop was a refurb unit purchased from IBM and came with win7 as OS. The replacement machine in question has windows vista installed.
One of my mates has a dead M1330. I told him about the "oven" trick but his wife might hurt the both of us. It is however possible to replace the motherboard with the integrated X3100 motherboard correct?

I am wondering if anyone else has tried this and if so, did you have any problems installing. from what I have researched, AMD is using the same bios for the the Turion processors and the RM-70 seems to be the one that uses the same wattage range, socket and power consumption.

The laptop was purchased with Windows Vista installed. Im quite unhappy of its performance.
I want to format the lappy and to install XP version.
the problem is that I recieved no Vista installation disc, due it's installed in an hidden partition.
My question is : how to format the hard disk without deleting the hidden partition? so if my new installation will fail (due lack of drivers for example), I could return to the VIsta again.
I have an Acer Aspire 5100 AMD 62x dualcore tk-53 i think its at like 1.7ghz, it came with Vista, I put XP back on it, came with 1gb of ram I upgraded to 4gb hoping it would run fine. To get to the point. When I first got the computer it ran great, however now sometime with it has brought it to this annoying spike in my CPU. I've tried everything I could to keep it down, but it spikes over 100% randomly and at the worst times. I've ran Process Explorer and watched when it spiked, nothing unusual. I've watched my task manager, nothing unusual. I've defraged, ran virus scans, disabled my virus protection, uninstalled it, reinstalled it, reformated, restarted, any and everything I could. I bought a stand for the laptop and a fan so it doesnt overheat. I've check my power settings, my page file remains the same around 555 on average even during the spikes.

Telephoned acer for recovery disks! Problems is a bought laptop through a friend of a friend. As I didn't register laptop and can't provide password, they won't sell me disks.
Tried alt f10 but nothing happens. Enabled d2d and recovery in boot up screen. Still no joy.
I have managed to download recovery dvd's (x2) from bit torrent (Acer Aspire 5100 Restore DVD's) . I then set the boot priority to boot dvd first.
The files are iso. I have burned the image using imgburn on 2 dvd's. The disk starts the loading RAMDISK image. Then as it flicks to the acer recovery it quickly jumps to please wait.....
I am now going to decompress the files using winrar, then burn the files. But not sure this will make any difference.
Firstly the dvd rom stopped working about 6 months ago.Can live without it but now after getting a blue screen it wont boot or the screen is black.Connected it to a monitor and when it does choose to boot there is no display on the laptop screen until the login screen appears.Ran some tests on the HDD drive when its running but comes up ok.Is it likely to be a failing MB or some corruption on my OP system.

My internet lags so bad on my aspire 5100, like when im trying to watch a streaming video it loads 3 seconds then stops, loads 3 seconds then stops. But when I plug my wifes dell laptop or my desktop into the same connection theres no lag at all. Would this have anything to do with my hard drive?

When i turn it on it starts up normally but when it gets to the desktop part the "start menu bar at the bottom" shows up until the computer is done loading then it dissappears.. Anyone know wats wrong with it?? I reformatted it some time now and it worked until like 3 wks later it does it again. I have to push my window button to get to my stuff but i cant see the little icon at the bottom right corner and my wireless. My start menu bar is gone.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy son has an Acer 5100 series laptop. His friend decided to install Windows XP over Vista because he thought that it would make the laptop run faster. It crashed. Once past the initial Acer screen it just goes to a black screen. I had someone check it out for me and they said that the original recovery system that would have been partitioned on the hard drive has been wiped out. I need a recovery CD for this laptop but the serial number on the sticker on the back is very faded and not legible. The product key for Microsoft is still in tact though.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer 5100 complete with the godforsaken Matshita UJ-850s DVD recorder drive, and a few months ago, it started not showing up in Windows at random times. It stopped showing up altogether a month or so ago. I've done the registry edit suggested for this drive, as well as opened up the computer to check the connection to the motherboard. The drive light comes on when a disc is inserted or when the eject button is pushed, but nothing registers in Windows. In addition, the drive doesn't show up in BIOS setup.
