Feb 14, 2010Im not sure if other owners of this laptop have this problem, but the screen display has a blue tint to it. Ive tried adjusting the color in the graphic property, but i can never seem to get it right so the colors on pictures are never accurately depicted when compared to my other laptops or monitors.

Nov 15, 2009I was looking at the Acer Timeline 3810t and I am thinking about purchasing it because the battery life is great and so is the performance. Yet, the one thing I found that may hold me from purchasing is the stiff mousepad buttons brought up in many reviews. I was wondering if anyone who has this laptop has experience with the touchpad buttons. Are the really stiff that it would annoy someone who uses their laptop on the go without an external mouse?

Sep 16, 2009My 4810T has the fan always on (not too loud, but on nevertheless...). I can't tell if it's because of the CPU (intel SU9400) or the GPU (intel gma 4500mhd).
Is there any option where I can control this? I'm on Ubuntu and I'm using the "CPU frequency scaling monitor" applet to throttle the CPU, but even in it's lowest frequency, the fan never shuts down.

The second-gen X25-M's extensive under-the-hood changes are capped by a new skin. Gone is the black exterior of the old drive; in its place is a bare metal casing that's gone unpainted in an attempt to further reduce costs. A black metal shim has been added to bring the drive up to a standard 9.5-mm thickness, though.
It's a good thing that there's a color contrast between the old and new models, because Intel intends to produce both as its customers make the transition to the new hotness. One may also differentiate between generations based on their model numbers: The old ones end in G1, while the new ones are tagged as G2.

Acer :: Just Got My Timeline 3810T-6415
Jun 29, 2009I've only had it for about an hour and a half so I don't many first thoughts but the keyboard is nice, build quality seems excellent, screen is beautiful, and just an amazing machine. I tried to take some pics but my camera isn't that great and unfortuantely the LCD is broken so I can't see what the picture is going to look like.
If you want me to take a picture of anything I can try or ask anything go ahead I'd be happy to answer. I'm thinking of doing a video in a few days and putting it up on YouTube because there isn't much about this laptop.

Aug 9, 2009I've previously had good experiences with HP until their past few models which have been a nightmare for a long, long list of reasons. But this post isn't about HP it's about Acer. This is my first Acer product and I've had a very positive response to the quality of their design but a very poor experience with the quality of manufacturing.
The unit I purchased is the Acer Aspire Timeline 4810T (1.4Ghz, 4gb, 14", 320GB WD) from Staples (US retailer) for the bargain price of 544.98 USD.
The most attractive aspects of the 4810T includes:
* The battery (wow!)
* The excellent, bright LED screen
* Fantastic keyboard (the fn key is to the right of ctrl, perfect!)
* Synaptics touchpad (the best)
* Super quiet fan even when playing games and doing heavy processing
* Decent speakers (dolby) with great sound through headphones
* USB ports on both sides
Some of the less attractive aspects include:
* Keyboard audio functions seem to rely upon software instead of hardware and can fail during heavy processing or if the OS hangs
* As a single piece of platic instead of separate buttons. The touchpad button only works on the edges with the center being "dead"
* No dock
* No expansion slot
* The speakers beep loudly when power is connected/disconnected if the speakers are on (annoying)
* The wireless light blinks during activity instead of just being on or off (annoying)
* The screen hugs the keyboard too closely creating key-shaped oil deposits on the screen (not uncommon but undesirable and a source for damage if something hard like a grain of sand is on the keyboard)

Aug 7, 2009I have a 4810T (SU3500) and the wireless connection is giving me some issues. After a suspend or restart the wireless connection does not reconnect properly. Sometimes the icon says I'm connected but there is no data transfer. I have to disconnect/reconnect or turn off/turn on the wireless via the touch sensitive button. Once I do that the wireless connection is rock solid.
I'm using the newest Intel drivers and Bios version 1.23

Sep 12, 2009I have an Acer Timeline 4810T, and recently, I have been having a really weird issue with power. When I first got the laptop, I would plug in the power adapter and it would immediately start charging. Now, when I plug it in, it takes 30 seconds to a minute for the adapter to be recognized and the laptop to start charging. I'll plug it in and nothing will happen, and then after a while, the green battery off icon will appear on the screen and the charging light will come on.
Its a really weird issue, and I really hope is not going to get worse. I already had to return one of these because keys on the keyboard stopped working. I really don't want to have to send this one back.
Acer :: Timeline 3810T Not Recognizing IPhone
Nov 5, 2009I've got an odd problem - my iPhone neither charges nor is recognised by USB2 on my 3810T. Tried same lead and phone on desktop and other PCs no problem. I'm running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit on both laptop and main PC.
My normal iPod classic connects and charges fine via the 3810T as do other peripherals like the external DVD-RW and memory sticks. Sony Ericsson mobile phone connects and charges too.
Can anyone explain this or has anyone either had the same problem or have connected successfully with an iPhone?

Oct 3, 2009Just got my new notebook and registered successfully for the win 7 upgrade.
I notice that the machine has 4GB RAM so it surely makes more sense to install Win 7 64 bit...? Anyway I have two other copies of the full version of Win 7 on pre-order for our home desktops which come with both 32 and 64 bit versions.
One of our desktops is generally used for office tasks so could I use the Win 7 32 bit upgrade intended for my Acer Timeline for that and do a fresh install of one of my full Win 7 home premiums on my new Acer Timeline?
Basically, is the upgrade locked to the associated Acer laptop?

Do 4810t stream multimedia content better if running Windows 7? I guess i can wait till then.
Videos from Vimeo and Streetfire.net ( i work in automotive media ) are slow, stuttering or just plain unwatchable. Some of it isn't even HD content, and even when you wait to cache up and load then play it still is choppy.

Jun 7, 2009Just purchased the Acer Timeline 4810T from Staples. This is is the 14.1 inches variant, thought I might post some initial impression for all who are interested.
Spec
Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500 1.4 ghz, 800 Mhz FSB, 3MB L2 Cache
4GB DDR 3 ram
320GB 5400rpm Western Digital
DVD+RW super multi
Wireless A/B/G (Atheros)
14.1 in 1368 x 768 LED (720P)
Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bits
HARDWARE
Contained the Acer Timeline, small form factor adapter/charger, 6 Cell 5800mah, 63WHR battery. manual and the usual documentation. No operating system dvd nor driver disc were included, however, the laptop did give me an option to create recovery discs.
The initial inspection of chasis was favorable, as you can see in the picture, it is thinner than a white macbook, roughly same thickness closed as the aluminum macbook. Chasis was rigid with no flex, the only part of the laptop that exhibit any kind of flex is the keyboard. Should you type hard, you can see the center of the keyboard being compressed downward. The chicklet style keyboard however, remained very usable and responsive.
Sound is loud and clear unlike tinny netbook speaker.
Mine comes with 3 USB port, 1 VGB, 1 HDMI, 1 ethernet port and 1 DVD+RW super multi. It also has a 5 in 1 memory card reader towards the front. 1 headphone output and 1 microphone input..........................
Acer :: Aspire Timeline 4810t-8480 With Windows 7 RTM
Sep 2, 2009I recently wiped out my Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit partition and installed Windows 7 Professional RTM 64-bit on it. I see the performance of booting up increased (using a SSD), programs opened faster (SSD), and shut down is a bit more faster also. The thing I'm concern about is the battery life. It seems to get shorter battery life.. the meter says 5 hours 31 minute on a 98% battery when windows vista says around 8 hours on that percentage. Both were idling. Is that normal that Windows 7 uses more battery or what?

Acer :: How To Add Bluetooth To Your Timeline 3810T And Other Interesting Tidbits With The Machine
Jul 16, 2009Disassembly, Bluetooth Install and other interesting findings:
A view from above find the tabs holding the keyboard in on the top edge above the F keys:
There are 5 of these tabs on the top row of the keyboard. Press in the middle one with a micro flat head, and use another to pry up the back of the keyboard. Press the rest of them in and they will bow the keyboard out. Only pry from the middle, as this will enable the keyboard to slip under the 2 tabs on the sides.
Once the keyboard is popped out, flip up the black tab to release the ribbon cable. Set the keyboard aside.
Remove the screws at the yellow dots, and disconnect the ribbon cables in the red squares. Simply stick your fingernail under the black tab and gently pull up. They are the same style as the keyboard connector.
Flip over the machine, and remove all screws at the yellow dots. The red dots are rubber stoppers that must be pulled out of their holes to expose the screws below. They come out fairly easily using a small micro flat head screwdriver to pry them out. There is double sided tape on the bottom to keep them in place, and it is good for more than one application, so you need not worry about them falling out later.
Take off the hard drive door and the memory cover and set them aside. To remove the hard drive itself, lift up the black plastic tab and gently pull on it. The whole unit will come out.
Remove the battery, and under the battery there are 2 smaller silver screws in plain sight. These must be removed also.
Flip the machine back over, and gently pull the top plastic piece off. This is one of the easiest laptops I've ever disassembled. DO NOT use a screwdriver to pry the pieces apart, you WILL mar the plastic and it will look bad. There is still 1 small pair of wires connecting the top to the motherboard, but there is enough slack to set the top off of the bottom, exposing the motherboard........................

Jan 17, 2010Is there any way to disable the blue LED that stays on once the battery is finished charging? It only stays on when connect to AC power. The light is very annoying in the dark.
If it makes a difference, I'm running windows 7 64-bit.
Acer :: Bios 1.23 Killed My Timeline 4810t, Now Hangs At Boot
Aug 3, 2009i've successfuly flashed my 4810t to bios 1.10, 1.20 and 1.22.. but yesterday i tried to get to 1.23, it installed ok in windows and restarted... now it wont go past the "press f2 to enter"... i press f2 and nothing... after a few keypresses it starts to make a sound... oh and the leafy button works here...
is there anything i can do? or i must use the warranty?

Just to explain how awesome this modded BIOS is: It enables a new INTEL-ONLY graphics setting in the BIOS for the TG models. This disables the ATI chip entirely, basically making the Switchable Graphics TG models act like the T models, which "fixes" the bug where both graphics chips are active after a Resume from Standby.
This gives 3810TG owners the promised battery life of 8+ hours. One caveat - it disables the HDMI port. For HDMI you have to use Switchable or ATI-ONLY modes.

I fresh install win7, update drivers and it's the same deal. 10-15fps for a 10yr old game.

Mar 9, 2010I'm having problems with my DVD drive on this laptop. Since 3 days ago, any cd/dvd I insert in the drive is not being 'read' properly. When I open windows explorer, it says that there is a driver with removable storage. But when I try to open it, the disk is immediately ejected, and I get a notice saying 'please insert a disk. At first I thought it was because I was using a copied dvd, but now it does the same thing with a normal dvd.

Aug 29, 2009While I'm working on it(internet explorer, msn, not too many things running), somehow it gets 'stuck' and doesnt work properly, very slow etc. If i"m lucky, task manager works, and I open it only to find that my cpu usage is at 100%, whereas the programs running shouldnt be anywhere NEAR that usage. I tried to see what processes are running while the cpu usage is at 100% but as I said i"m not an expert, so I couldnt see something. I took it to the Acer distributers here in Cyprus, and they said that it had caught a virus(while having nod32 installed) and they reformatted it. But ever since I got it, this happened twice in 4 days. And I'm sure it has no virus, I have Kaspesky installed and did scans. And right now, it's working perfectly. And it did all day, till this afternoon, with no apparent reason.
