Acer :: Timeline 4810TG Windows 7 Battery Capacity Dropped
Nov 7, 2009
I did a clean install of Windows 7 ultimate 64bit a few days ago.
All is fine except one major issue; My battery capacity dropped to half of that in Vista. I am now lucky to get over 3.5 hours. In Vista I had an average of 6-7 hours.
What could be the cause of this? I have updated all drivers and empowering software. I also installed the Vista version of the Optical Drive Power Management just to see if that was the cause.
Anyone else experiencing poor battery times in W7? Is 64bit known for reducing battery times?

On my 4810TZ with Vista I was easily getting 8-9 hrs of battery life, but once after installing Windows 7 its hardly 6 hrs. I have installed the latest ePower Management, Optical Power Manaement softwares. The drivers are the latest for the Windows 7. I have not updated my BIOS, a little reserved about that. The display is at minimum brigtness, the Optical drive is truned off, so is the WiFi and bluetooth, but still just near 6 hrs.

For the past 5 months that ive owned m laptop, i have been running the Windows 7 RC.
However, given that i will be leaving the country for the next four months (during which time my RC license will expire) i did a clean install to an RTM (retail) copy of windows 7 ultimate 64 a few days ago. Since then, ive noticed some bothersome issues:
battery life is fluctuating heavily, and the predictions are nowhere near as high as they used to be (with the win7 RC i got 7 hours or so in practical use)
the Launch Manager software is not really working, when i unplug i dont see the battery logo come up on screen like i used to when i unplug, and instead get random changes in brightness and beep sounds when nothing seems to be happening (i think thats related to the optical drive management software) the other touch buttons, like wifi do show a logo on screen when clicked, but the battery button does not.
in the time i have spent writing this post, the battery indicator has predicted 5 hours, 5 hours 30 min, 7 hours 30 min, and 6 hours, all between 85 and 83%. i know it fluctuates some because its calculated based on usage, but this is way more than it ever did before.
in addition i cant install the VGA drivers from acer because it says my computer doesnt meet the minimum specs when i try to install.

here we go, acer 3810tz :
1.Laptop turned off -> charger unplugged -> turned on after 15h, battery bar:
99,99-93,0= 6,99% of drain
2.Laptop turned off -> charger stays plugged -> turned on after 15h, battery bar:
99,7-99,0= 0,7% of drain
3.Charger unplugged (laptop goes to on battery mode) -> laptop turned off ->
-> turned on after 48h, battery bar:
98,0-97,0= 1,0% of drain
Conclusion:
There seems to be a bug in BIOS power managment, so:
1. Unplug charger, laptop goes to on battery mode (green leaf).
2. Turn off laptop

Is there any way to disable the blue LED that stays on once the battery is finished charging? It only stays on when connect to AC power. The light is very annoying in the dark.
If it makes a difference, I'm running windows 7 64-bit.

I've had this laptop for just over a month and the battery capacity is only at 83% (tested with Dell Support Center). A couple of days ago this was at 87%.
If this is normal for the battery to lose capacity so quickly (nearly 20% in just over a month seems a lot to me..) or should I consider asking Dell for a replacement?

Just recieved my haswell xps 12 yesterday, overall the machine is great, but I have one outstanding issue that has just made me call dell support to return it . The battery life is showing as only holding 75% of it's design capacity in the my dell software and widows 8 battery report. As battery life is one of the major reasons I'm upgrading, I don't think I can put up with the battery being so degraded at this stage, and I'm not getting anywhere near the stated time in the various reviews.

how are folks preparing to upgrade their Acer Timeline to Windows 7? Are you assembling the drivers on Acer's website, or are you content to rely, at least initially, on Windows 7 drivers? For folks who will be upgrading to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, what are you doing about the fact that there seem to be very few drivers and applications currently on Acer's support website?
I keep telling myself that Acer is going to release something, anything, in the next few days giving customers at least some guidance and help on how to get their Timelines fully compatible with Windows 7, but those are probably pipe dreams. So... as folks upgrade to Windows 7 over the coming weeks, it might be helpful to post experiences--good and, in particular, bad--for the benefit of the community.

I am buying a dv5t off ebay but none of the laptops on there come wit the high capacity 6 cell battery offered on HP's website. Is there any place I can buy one? I've tried ebay but it doesn't appear there are any on there.
Also, model number or serialnumber for the high capacity 6 cell so I can check online for it that way.

I have 2 extra high capacity 6-cells (compatible with dv4, dv5, and several other compaq models) that i don't need because hp will be sending me my replacement dv7 soon and they dont fit. i want to sell them but i don't even know what a good asking price would be(hp does not even sell them individually on their website). they've been sitting in my fridge for the last month and have hardly ever been used, one of them i believe is still 100% capacity.

to prolonging my 6-cell high capacity battery that just came with my dv4t? My previous laptop which was a Sony Vaio(purchased new in Jun of 08) had a battery life of two hours. In December of 08, it all of a sudden only was able to last 50 minutes, and this became a huge problem. Are there any tips for prolonging a battery's full life as much as possible?

Recently my T510 9 cell battery suddenly stopped working. According to the Lenovo battery utility, the battery condition is poor and it suggests replacing a battery.
However, the battery seems still have 99% capacity, either by Lenovo utility or by other softwares. Before the failing it lasts 3-4 hours and charges normally.
I read several posts online and see some people have similar problems. It is suggested that maybe one of the cells fail so the circuit stopped the battery from working/or the safety circuits just malfunctions? Or indeed I need to replace the battery.
I understand that messing with battery is risky and I believe it is detected as not working for a good reason. However, I am wondering if there is a way to assure that my battery is completely dead, but not a problem with other hardware or the OS, before I purchase a new battery. For example, using a volmeter on the whole batteryto see if I can get a reading, or opening up the battery case and test on each cell?
Is it doable to replace a single cell if one of them fails?
PS: For people who says that they connect two terminals of the battery to a volmeter and see no readings, I believe you also need to ground the safety pin to turn on the battery.

I recently wiped out my Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit partition and installed Windows 7 Professional RTM 64-bit on it. I see the performance of booting up increased (using a SSD), programs opened faster (SSD), and shut down is a bit more faster also. The thing I'm concern about is the battery life. It seems to get shorter battery life.. the meter says 5 hours 31 minute on a 98% battery when windows vista says around 8 hours on that percentage. Both were idling. Is that normal that Windows 7 uses more battery or what?

I check my battery count almost every day, what I have noticed is that the full charge capacity decreases by around 5 every day. Three days ago it was at 5182, and now it's at 5169. I run my laptop on external power most of the time. Is such steady decrease normal?

I have a look at my battery report today and found something really awkward. I bought the computer seven months ago, and the battery start with Design capacity 44,000wWh, while the full charge capacity is quite closer to the design capacity. However in the battery report it shows that two weeks ago the design capacity suddenly drop from 44000 to 40734mWh in one week, and then afterwards it drop to 39000mWh. And the actual full charge capacity seems to linger around 37000mWh. Is there something wrong or is my battery just wear out naturally?
