Dell :: M6400 Battery Life / Capacity After 5 Months...
Apr 16, 2009
Got my M6400 in early December.
Now, using RMClock I note that my fully charged capacity of the battery is now only 85% of the designed capacity. (72361mWh out of 86580 mWh)
What does everyone else get?

Just got 2.5hrs usage on battery from my M6400 (QX9300, FX2700m, 16GB RAM, 500GB RAID 0 disk array). I was pleasantly suprised by this, as previously I've only managed 1.5hrs.
I was working on a virtual PC hosted by the M6400 - developing C++ code - (connected via RDP), included lots of builds and test runs etc to the (also hosted as a VPC on the M6400) sql server.

Is there any way how to "charge" battery to its designed capacity?
My battery is 2 years old and I was wondering if there is any way how to "renew" it (except buy new one)?

I've had this laptop for just over a month and the battery capacity is only at 83% (tested with Dell Support Center). A couple of days ago this was at 87%.
If this is normal for the battery to lose capacity so quickly (nearly 20% in just over a month seems a lot to me..) or should I consider asking Dell for a replacement?

Just recieved my haswell xps 12 yesterday, overall the machine is great, but I have one outstanding issue that has just made me call dell support to return it . The battery life is showing as only holding 75% of it's design capacity in the my dell software and widows 8 battery report. As battery life is one of the major reasons I'm upgrading, I don't think I can put up with the battery being so degraded at this stage, and I'm not getting anywhere near the stated time in the various reviews.

I am buying a dv5t off ebay but none of the laptops on there come wit the high capacity 6 cell battery offered on HP's website. Is there any place I can buy one? I've tried ebay but it doesn't appear there are any on there.
Also, model number or serialnumber for the high capacity 6 cell so I can check online for it that way.

I have 2 extra high capacity 6-cells (compatible with dv4, dv5, and several other compaq models) that i don't need because hp will be sending me my replacement dv7 soon and they dont fit. i want to sell them but i don't even know what a good asking price would be(hp does not even sell them individually on their website). they've been sitting in my fridge for the last month and have hardly ever been used, one of them i believe is still 100% capacity.

to prolonging my 6-cell high capacity battery that just came with my dv4t? My previous laptop which was a Sony Vaio(purchased new in Jun of 08) had a battery life of two hours. In December of 08, it all of a sudden only was able to last 50 minutes, and this became a huge problem. Are there any tips for prolonging a battery's full life as much as possible?

I did a clean install of Windows 7 ultimate 64bit a few days ago.
All is fine except one major issue; My battery capacity dropped to half of that in Vista. I am now lucky to get over 3.5 hours. In Vista I had an average of 6-7 hours.
What could be the cause of this? I have updated all drivers and empowering software. I also installed the Vista version of the Optical Drive Power Management just to see if that was the cause.
Anyone else experiencing poor battery times in W7? Is 64bit known for reducing battery times?

Recently my T510 9 cell battery suddenly stopped working. According to the Lenovo battery utility, the battery condition is poor and it suggests replacing a battery.
Â
However, the battery seems still have 99% capacity, either by Lenovo utility or by other softwares. Before the failing it lasts 3-4 hours and charges normally.Â
Â
I read several posts online and see some people have similar problems. It is suggested that maybe one of the cells fail so the circuit stopped the battery from working/or the safety circuits just malfunctions? Or indeed I need to replace the battery.
Â
I understand that messing with battery is risky and I believe it is detected as not working for a good reason. However, Â I am wondering if there is a way to assure that my battery is completely dead, but not a problem with other hardware or the OS, before I purchase a new battery. For example, using a volmeter on the whole batteryto see if I can get a reading, or opening up the battery case and test on each cell?Â
Â
Is it doable to replace a single cell if one of them fails?
Â
PS: For people who says that they connect two terminals of the battery to a volmeter and see no readings, I believe you also need to ground the safety pin to turn on the battery.Â

I check my battery count almost every day, what I have noticed is that the full charge capacity decreases by around 5 every day. Three days ago it was at 5182, and now it's at 5169. I run my laptop on external power most of the time. Is such steady decrease normal?

I have a look at my battery report today and found something really awkward. I bought the computer seven months ago, and the battery start with Design capacity 44,000wWh, while the full charge capacity is quite closer to the design capacity. However in the battery report it shows that two weeks ago the design capacity suddenly drop from 44000 to 40734mWh in one week, and then afterwards it drop to 39000mWh. And the actual full charge capacity seems to linger around 37000mWh. Is there something wrong or is my battery just wear out naturally?

It's been about 5 months since I started to use my Thinkpad  X230.  Only three days ago it could work for 5-6 hours without charging.  I could charge it at home, bring it to school and use it without charging.  But suddenly the battery started to die in a short amount of time.  Then I explored the battery settings a little bit.  I found out it says "Battery Condition: poor" and "Your battery can 47% of its original full charge capacity." Â
Â
It has warranty until 2015. So can Lenovo send me a new battery if I want so? Or is it a problem that warranty doesn't cover?

I have Dell XPS 1530 and I have 2 problems,
1 – Keyboard. When I type cursor seems to jump around a lot. I would be typing and suddenly the cursor is in the middle of the previous sentence and it’s a mess. Is that something common, is that me or is that something I need to call Dell?
2 – Battery life is extremely short. I hear of such thing as deactivating your video card ( I have GeForce 8600 GT) and that supposedly helps you with the battery life. Does this laptop offer such opportunity?

Why is the Studio XPS 13 so terrible on battery life? ~2.5 hours on power saving mode, 1 on high-performance. I believe the Sony Z rates around 3-5 hours on power saving, as does the Latitude 6400. Is it normal to have this low of a battery life for a 13.3"?
What is draining all the power? How does the Z pull 4-5 hours on its battery life?
I don't want to shell out for a 9-cell and also have to deal with the added weight... but this is ridiculous.
Also, are there any new deals for the 9-cell batteries?

Here a bit of summary of how to enable some advance power plan settings, the highlights are disabling the core parking override and max % of unparked cores.
-Windows by defaults keeps at least one logical core active per physical processor core. With the nehalem architecture parked cores consume almost no power.
-Also keep in mind if you set max unparked cores to 50% it may still activate all cores because 50% of 8 hyperthreaded cores is 4.
-You can use resource monitor to see if cores are parking
-once you've done the registry tweaks below you should have some extra options in your advanced power plan settings
-Setting you power plan back to defaults nulls you the changes to it is harmless and reversable if you are careful
-If you are not comfortable making registry changes don't do this as you can really screw your computer up, if you mess up the wrong things in your registry
Open Regedit (type regedit into the startmenu search box)
Expand location to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlPowerPowerSettings54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00
In order to enable some advanced power plan settings you will have to rename the REG_DWORD "Attributes" to "_Attributes". This one it own does not change how your computer runs, it simply adds an extra option into your advanced settings for each power plan
Here are the relevant registry keys:
0cc5b647-c1df-4637-891a-dec35c318583
lets you set the minimum number of unparked cores (I set this to 25% for power saver)
3b04d4fd-1cc7-4f23-ab1c-d1337819c4bb
turns on additional processor throttle states, caution this throttled my laptop to the point that it was almost unusable you can change the attribute to _attribute but leave the power plan setting disabled.
447235c7-6a8d-4cc0-8e24-9eaf70b96e2b
Sets the processor power state when parked, I think the default is ok
5d76a2ca-e8c0-402f-a133-2158492d58ad
Option to Disable processor idle states, not really relevant on a laptop
a55612aa-f624-42c6-a443-7397d064c04f
Processor core parking override, this one is key, it you don't disable this in your power plan settings you will only park "virtual" cores
ea062031-0e34-4ff1-9b6d-eb1059334028
Maximum number of unparked cores, this is useful to put your computer into "dual core mode" in power saver if you set this to 25% or 50%

My battery charger doesn't charge and the blue light isn't turning on.
Is it safe to assume that it is dead?
Are there any tests I can do to verify if that's the case?
I've had it for a year and 3 months, is that the typical life of a battery charger?

i like having my m1530 on my lap (unplugged) in the living room while i watch tv/babysit so far i can only make it last 2 hours at the most(surfing the web, messengers) with the brightness 30% and powersaver mode.
well i was reading on the thread on how to underclock your cpu...theres a problem with that:
-numero first im too lazy (hurts my head when i try to understand the thread, hence the "[ADVANCE]" on the title ^^")
-numero dos having a t5450 on power saver mode (50% max perfomance) is slow enough... so i tried to look for a better solution and found this...

i think its great...my battery up to 2 hours and 20-ish minutes.
i think vista users should give it a try
