I'de need a pic of the mobo of a 1410/1810 after the TME mod for overclocking...
View 5 Replies View RelatedIntel's website says that the GS4500 chipset supports up to 8GB of RAM.

Don't the 1410 and 1810 use that chipset?
Has anyone tried running 8GB of RAM in these units?
if these will run on the machines mentioned?

I have Acer1410 and after reading alot about Ubuntu I want to install it on my Acer. Once again - I have no clue how to do it, what do I need and etc. My installation expirience is Windows XP, Vista, 7.
At present time I have Windows7 on my Acer. I want to create second partition for Ubuntu and have some type of boot menu with a choice.
Is there any guide avialable for dummies like me on How to install Ubuntu, where to get it from, how to make dual boot on Acer and etc.
my spacebar snapped off after moderate use on a one month old Acer. Tech support is willing to receive and fix it, but I need to be using this laptop and cannot be laptop-less for 16 days.
So I wanted to buy my own keyboard and was looking at this:
[url]
Now the page up and down keys are in 2 lines instead of 1 and these keys look bigger, but is the dimension of the keyboard identical to 1410 before I buy it?
The other one I saw on these forums is here:

From the timeline Thread from pookguy
The 2nd keyboard looks identical but the auction doesn't mention 1410.
Had a search on the forums and couldn't really find this.
Is it possible to change the Acer 1810T keyboard to a thinkpad one?
Are they the same size? Could it work?
I love the Acer, just not its keyboard and miss the thinkpad keyboard - which really encourages typing. The acer really doesn't.
If the thinkpad keyboard isn't possible, what else might be?
I'm interested in picking up an Acer 1410, but I've been looking at the specs for the new US version of the 1810TZ dual-core version. The spec sheet says that it comes with a 6-cell 5600 mAh battery, and the 1410 comes with a 6-cell 4200 mAh battery. I figure, since the bodies are the same, do you think that the larger battery from the 1810TZ will fit into the 1410? That would be an excellent upgrade to the already good battery life of the 1410.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got the 3G version of the Netbook with the 3 cell battery. I'm only getting a bit over 2 hour of battery life with 3G off, my wireless connection on, the screen brightness about half way, and the only program open is Firefox. For example, right now I have 90% capacity and it's showing 1:55. Is this the normal battery life. I know the specs say up to 3 hours, but I never believe in those, and I just want to make sure mine is about right.
I was thinking of getting the 6 cell battery, but I don't want to make the netbook any bulkier than it is (I'll be carrying it back and forth in my work commute).
i have an Acer 5920g, When i first purchased it (2 ish years ago) i would get around 1.5 hours use out of it after a full charge and on high performance. Now im gettin 45mins - half of what i used to get?
View 8 Replies View RelatedIve had my Acer 3680 since 4/07. I bought it brand new.
I keep it on the charger 85% of the time, and when its not on a/c power, I switch over to "power save" mode.
I was surprised about a month or two ago when my battery icon had a red "X" through it.
It would be there whether it was charging or on battery power. When I switched to battery power, it would be at 100%, but then be down to 7% in like 2 minutes and shut off. I was able to get a new battery on ebay and now I have no problems. I cant help but wonder though, how long are people reporting with their 3680's?
We have a Dell laptop at work that we've had for 5 years with the original battery. Im not trying to diss Acer or anything. It could be I just got a fluke battery. I'd like to see how long your 3680 battery lasted before you had to replace it?
i cant find any information of 6930G's battery life
I live in eastern europe so i doubt you guys have the same configuration available as we do, but i'll try anyway.
Model nr: AS6930G-733G25N LX.AVB0X.018
specs: Centrino2 P7350 (2.1GHz, 3M cache, 1066MHz FSB), 16.0" WXGA CB, NVidia GeForce 9600M-GS 512MB , 1x2GB & 1x1GB DDR2, 250GB S-ATA, DVD-SuperMulti, 802.11N, 6 cell battery, 0.3 CrystalEye, Fingerprint, 5in1 card reader, Dolby, Ture5.1, s/pdif, TubaCineBass booster, ExpressCard, HDMI, eSATA port, CIR, EasyPortIV connector
After upgrading to Windows 7 Professional the battery life on my 6920 has taken a dive.
I've always thought that the meter was just messed (never used it long enough on battery to test), but today my battery completely drained in a little over 30 minutes.
Under Vista, I was getting around 2.5-3 hours of usage....
My mom has an Extensa 4620 which couldn't have been already years old, but seems like its battery is giving way.. She told me she keeps noticing that instead of almost 2 hours battery life, now she only gets 30 minutes from it, in High Performance. I've installed RMClock on it not too long ago, but I'm sure it isn't because of that..batteries don't fade that fast, now do they? Can we like send it back to Acer or something since it already underperforms for its age?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI"m looking at the comparisons between the Acer 1810 T and TZ models. The primary differences are in processor and cache sizes. Could anybody guesstimate whether there would be differences in battery life on the two models, ie the SU4100 and the SU7300?
Battery life is probably more important to me than slight performance differences.
I am in the middle of choosing a new laptop (Acer Aspire Timeline 3810T with Core 2 Duo SU9400 versus this Acer Aspire 3935 with Core 2 Duo T7350).
Here are the sites that reviewed Aspire 3935.

I am interested to know the real world battery life with the powersmart function enabled since none of the reviewers tested it.
The Acer Timeline 3810tz is advertised to get 8+ hours of battery life. Those who have tested get about that amount while browsing the web and doing simple task, and this model contains a single core processor. I read somewhere that the Acer 3810 model with a dual core processor SU4100 get half that battery life and only goes about 4 hours.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI had originally planned to get an HP Mini 311, but the Timeline 1810 seems like I'd be getting much more for the money, even with weaker video capabilities. The problem is I'm having incredible difficulty finding any reviews or user feedback on the 1810.
How is the video playback on the 1810? Can it do HD flash with or without v10.1? Likewise, I'm not really a PC gamer at all, but I do enjoy playing Civ 4 once in a while - think it could run on an 1810?
What's bootup/shutdown time for Windows 7?
How is it in terms of noise and heat?
How's the keyboard? That's another big complaint I had with the Mini, the keyboard feels very cheap and breakable.
What is Acer customer support like? Are they easy to get answers from? Are they willing to fix things, or is it an argument even under warranty?
lastly: where's the best place to get a Timeline? It doesn't look like Acer sells them directly.
I am interested in buying an Acer 1810 Timeline, given all that I read in this forum. Just one brief question for those who own one:
The 1810 has both a HDMI as well as a VGA port. Is it possible to display onto *two* different external monitors, each one connected to one of these ports? (In thinkpads one can do this by switching off the internal LCD.)
I am looking for real world feedback for the 6 cell battery on the XPS 16. This would be mainly word processing and Internet surfing, with the screen at about 1/2 brightness

View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm new to OS X, got my MacBook the other day, and I can hands down say it's my favorite OS I've dealt with. It's so much simpler and just plain awesome. Okay, I'll ask my question before I get carried away...
So, I did some searching on Google after I noticed that my battery likes to hang around 99%. Apparently this is common. My question is, is this a BAD thing? When I see 99% I'm picturing that the computer is constantly pushing power into the battery so it can reach 100%. I mean, isn't that how fires start?
Simply put, is my MacBook trying to charge the battery consistently when it is not at 100%?
every time I'm running my uMBP from battery, I'm constantly checking the amount of time I have left and trying to figure ways to increase that time. Yes, CONSTANTLY. Whenever I can, I'm using the a/c adapter.
Even though I may see 6-7 hours left, I'm still not satisfied.
And just about every time I am running the battery, I'll open up Coconut Battery to make sure I still have a 100% charge hold left....even though my umbp is 7 weeks old with only 4 cycles...
I have Dell XPS 1530 and I have 2 problems,
1 – Keyboard. When I type cursor seems to jump around a lot. I would be typing and suddenly the cursor is in the middle of the previous sentence and it’s a mess. Is that something common, is that me or is that something I need to call Dell?
2 – Battery life is extremely short. I hear of such thing as deactivating your video card ( I have GeForce 8600 GT) and that supposedly helps you with the battery life. Does this laptop offer such opportunity?
Why is the Studio XPS 13 so terrible on battery life? ~2.5 hours on power saving mode, 1 on high-performance. I believe the Sony Z rates around 3-5 hours on power saving, as does the Latitude 6400. Is it normal to have this low of a battery life for a 13.3"?
What is draining all the power? How does the Z pull 4-5 hours on its battery life?
I don't want to shell out for a 9-cell and also have to deal with the added weight... but this is ridiculous.
Also, are there any new deals for the 9-cell batteries?
Here a bit of summary of how to enable some advance power plan settings, the highlights are disabling the core parking override and max % of unparked cores.
-Windows by defaults keeps at least one logical core active per physical processor core. With the nehalem architecture parked cores consume almost no power.
-Also keep in mind if you set max unparked cores to 50% it may still activate all cores because 50% of 8 hyperthreaded cores is 4.
-You can use resource monitor to see if cores are parking
-once you've done the registry tweaks below you should have some extra options in your advanced power plan settings
-Setting you power plan back to defaults nulls you the changes to it is harmless and reversable if you are careful
-If you are not comfortable making registry changes don't do this as you can really screw your computer up, if you mess up the wrong things in your registry
Open Regedit (type regedit into the startmenu search box)
Expand location to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlPowerPowerSettings54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00
In order to enable some advanced power plan settings you will have to rename the REG_DWORD "Attributes" to "_Attributes". This one it own does not change how your computer runs, it simply adds an extra option into your advanced settings for each power plan
Here are the relevant registry keys:
0cc5b647-c1df-4637-891a-dec35c318583
lets you set the minimum number of unparked cores (I set this to 25% for power saver)
3b04d4fd-1cc7-4f23-ab1c-d1337819c4bb
turns on additional processor throttle states, caution this throttled my laptop to the point that it was almost unusable you can change the attribute to _attribute but leave the power plan setting disabled.
447235c7-6a8d-4cc0-8e24-9eaf70b96e2b
Sets the processor power state when parked, I think the default is ok
5d76a2ca-e8c0-402f-a133-2158492d58ad
Option to Disable processor idle states, not really relevant on a laptop
a55612aa-f624-42c6-a443-7397d064c04f
Processor core parking override, this one is key, it you don't disable this in your power plan settings you will only park "virtual" cores
ea062031-0e34-4ff1-9b6d-eb1059334028
Maximum number of unparked cores, this is useful to put your computer into "dual core mode" in power saver if you set this to 25% or 50%
my S-XPS 1645 battery lasts only 1.5 hrs..
is this same with you guys as well or is this just in my case....
My battery charger doesn't charge and the blue light isn't turning on.
Is it safe to assume that it is dead?
Are there any tests I can do to verify if that's the case?
I've had it for a year and 3 months, is that the typical life of a battery charger?
I have a e6400 with SSD, a P series processor, LED screen and 9 cell battery. On the balanced mode, it is at 94% and 2h32m left. That sounds REALLY low to me. I have WiFi on, brightness up, etc. but still sounds extremely low.
