Acer :: Aspire 6930G - Whats The Max HDD Size I Can Use With This
May 9, 2009
I have a laptop acer aspire 6930G with the configuration listed below in red ink.............I need to knw how to gain more performance out of it in terms of gaming and applications usage.........Also, whats the max HDD size I can use with this laptop
So far I think its a great notebook for the price. I have'nt ran into any serious issues.
1. Sound - When playing music the sound is ok, However with Bluray or DVDs the sound is very low, even on 100% volume level. I tested the Bluray disc that came with it and the DVD to Twister, and in a quiet room its too low to capture all the details of the sound. Agian music (ie.MP3s) sound fine, but movies are very low. I tried enabling the Dolby Pro IIx but that didn't help.
2. Webcam - How exactly do I turn it on/off. I found the crystal eye software that works with it automatically turning the camera on, but it has no options to do anything with it. No record button or anything. I read that Windows Movie Maker can be used, but it does not detect the camera at all.
3. Acer Arcade Deluxe. - The album art of the music that I add does show up. I have them embedded in the idtags, They show up in Vista Media Center however.
4. This is probably more of a Vista issue, but I noticed the hard drive is constanly being access most of the time, and I can't figure out why. I googled and learned about potential culprits like Superfetch, and Search Indexing, Auto defraging, and Malware Scanners. And after disabling all of that the drive still read/writes like crazy when its idle. In Task Manager, I've discover that a file lsass.exe and svchost.exe are the primary culprits, but I don't know if and how I should disable them.
yesterday evening our Acer Aspire 6930G ( windows vista premium ) was in standby mode , i wanted to go back into the normal mode to shut down the laptop but suddenly the screen went black and the laptop couldnt recover to normal situation anymore, the laptop's battery also went silent now. I needed to call the Dutch ACER helpdesk for making a repair agreement. I will need to send my laptop via UPS to their Repair centre in Germany .... I still have guarantee/warranty fortunately. But does anyone have the same experience with their Acer Aspire 6930G's screen suddenly going black and after that the battery going down ?
This is my current laptop: Acer Aspire 6930G T5800 4 GB RAM 500 GB 7200 RPM 9600M GS
I've upgraded my HDD recently and now have a spare. I've though about adding in a second one into the second bay but those two legs are in the way. Has anyone found a distributor for the hard drive bay door that allows a second HDD or can anyone who has shaved off the legs tell me how much would be a safe length to shave off and what tool would be best for the job.
I've also considered getting a T9900 online (after being put down that it can't support quad cores) and I'm wondering if anyone has successfully installed a T9900 into a Aspire 6930 or 6930G. It sounds fine theoretically but I'm not sure if the CPU would fry my motherboard or not without proper BIOS support. My BIOS is currently on version 3204 and for odd reason, Windows says I have no administrative privileges when I try to phlash it, so I haven't been able to phlash it to version 3236. If I can upgrade it to a T9900, I'm wondering if anyone who has done it before can make a short guide. I remember lucino mentioning that it is more difficult than most laptops.
I've also read on the forums somewhere on a post by aditya900 that the 6930G can supposedly support more than 4 GB of RAM, has anyone verified this? Since messing with video rendering programs and hosting GMod servers tend to use up a lot of RAM, I'm very interested in sticking in a 4 GB stick to get 6 GB.
I'm also interested in getting a ATI 4670 if it does come out in the MXM-II factor or the GT 130M or whatever is the most powerful at the time . I've cracked open the case and the video card is right at the top next to the removable plate.. I'm hoping that you can just slide out the card or do you have to disassemble the case and remove the motherboard in order to upgrade the video card. I'm really hoping it's not the latter. I am wondering if anyone has done this before......................
This is a vague guide and quite clumsy so I have no responsibility whatsoever if you damage your laptop or you lose your data or anything bad happens to your laptop or you etc.
I have to mention though that there is another guide written by lucino but unfortunately he hasnít finished it and there are no photos. His guide looks more appropriate and safer than mine which is a bit risky but much quicker. Here is the link. lucino's guide I am not sure if there is an update or if he is planning to include photos and finish the guide.
You will need a cross-head screwdriver around 3.0mm (you donít say!!!) but also a flat one
Please use some kind of protection from ESD (electrostatic discharge) like an antistatic or grounding strap or gloves. This will prevent the static sensitive components from being ruined (memory, video card, motherboard etc).
Sometimes I donít use it but I know how to discharge myself (i.e. by touching a metallic surface) before touching the laptop........................
This laptop (Acer Aspire 6930g, T5800, 9300M GS, 250gb HDD 3gb DDR2/3 unsure about that bit) has stickers all over saying FULL HD 1080p playback
The problem im having is there is no 1080p resolution since in installed Windows Vista Ultimate x64. The max resolution used to be 1920x1080 the best i can see is 1366x768 which IMHO is pap,
The geforce drivers i am using are these ones

i recently got an Aspire 6930g , very nice lappy etc, the only issue i have is , when i'm using the wireless and the laptop is not on charge , the wireless will disconnect itself , then reconnect, 3 times already whilst typing this, edit 4 times , it doesn't matter how much charge is in the battery , it still does it
when on charge the wireless works perfectly , i've had my other Acer laptop connected at the same time , and that works ok whether on charge or not , so its deffo something in the 6930
changed settings as much as i could , but to no avail
I just bought a new Aspire 6930G, which obviously comes preinstalled with Vista. I want to install XP on it and I need the drivers. Does anyone have a list of all the drivers that I need in order to complete this installation?
i have an acer aspire 6930g and i'm worried about the Temperature, this Temperature is while playing "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl" is this normal? also the left side ( under the HDMI port ) is very hot, should i worry or is this normal
i have had my laptop for a few wks now and keep tryin to work out whether it is bluetooth or not. if i press the bluetooth button on my laptop i see the message no device. last night i read notes to do with another laptop and followed the link to the acer website and tried to download the bluetooth drivers for my pc. when i downloaded the utility to my laptop i get the following msg "no bluetooth device was connected. please makesure that your bluetooth device is plugged in properly in order to continue installation" does this mean i need to physically plug something into my laptop or is my laptop not bluetooth afterall. how can i find out.
How to zoom (increase text size) on the aspire switch 10?   My other computers have a settings for this,  Also, where can I get a user's manual.  They are requesting a number I neither can find, or can't understand where it is, or can't read even with a magnifing glass.
I have a refurbished aspire 6930G, fairly new, and for some reason it will not play my GTA IV disc. The drive just makes a whirring noise as it tries to autoplay and nothing happens. I've tried the disc in other machines and it works fine, and my computer has no trouble playing other CDs, DVDs etc. It's just that particular one. Does anybody have any idea why that might be, and what I could do to fix it?
I'm running vista home premium and I have service pack 2.
I've been plagued with this problem for the past month and a half at least, so much so that the laptop has spent the last 3 weeks with Acer and their technical support team in Plymouth (I only got it back last week).
The laptop was sent off with a fault to the screen. It intermittently flickers, mainly when the screen is moved, but sometimes not. The laptop was sent off to Acer 3-4 weeks ago and was returned last week. A report was returned with the laptop and reads as follows:
Problem Description: SYSTEM FUNCTION - SYSTEM FAIL TO FLASH BIOS
Repair Description: STORAGE - OPTICAL DEVICE WILL NOT READ/WRITE
Diagnosis/Repair Details: fitted new ODD and middle cover
As you can imagine, this report left me completely perplexed but I assumed that somewhere within that they had fixed the screen problem and left me with a fully functional laptop again. And of course I'd been without it for 3 weeks and just wanted to turn it on again!! lol (On a sidenote, I had asked them to check the disk drive also, because back when I first got it, it struggled to read any type of disk. This explains the apparent replacement disk drive)................
I therefore have felt the need to come back, because I now now have a new problem (well its actually been around for a good few months). This problem is also a buzzing noise, but this time from the speakers and in particular, what sounds like the subwoofer. They randomly start making a crackling/buzzing/distorted static sound at random intervals when listening to music or videos or when using Skype, etc.
I've had this problem for a while and it hasn't bothered me as normally going to 'Acer eAudio Management' and simply swapping to '5.1 Output' and then back to 'Built in Speakers' solved the problem, albeit temporarily. Its been more of an annoyance than anything.
However, on Tuesday (2 days ago) I got my copy of Windows 7 through the post to replace my Vista installation. 7 is fantastic it really is, but since I have installed it all hell has broken lose with my speakers. The buzzing noise is now much more frequent, particualry when simply opening something such as Skype or Windows Media Player, whilst listening to iTunes. Swapping between the '5.1' and 'built in speakers' does stop the buzzing, but now, it comes back almost instantly.....................
I have an Acer Aspire 6930g and want to upgrade its CPU, but I don't really know it enough to know what CPU to choose from. So far the "Fastest" cpu I can find right now is a P8600 2.4ghz, when I am using a T5800 2.0ghz. Are there any better ones I can get right now that is compatible?
I just got my Aspire 6930G yesterday and noticed something which may be a problem. Above the keyboard there is a row of blue lights and buttons for multimedia controls like volume, play, etc. The buttons light up and work fine. My question is on the volume section.
It looks like this:
- | | | | | | | | +
The minus button turns down the volume and the plus button raises the volume. The vertical bars in the middle look like they are supposed to light up to indicate the volume level, but they do not light up. Does anyone know if they are just for decoration or if they are actually supposed to work? If they are supposed to light up, is it possible this is controlled by a setting someplace? I looked in the likely places (Keyboard, Sounds, etc.) but didn't find anything.
Everything else with the volume works fine: the controls make it louder and softer, I see the on-screen display of the volume when I press the +/- buttons, etc.
I have acer aspire 6930g lapotop came with preinstalled windows vista ..my problem is this preinstalled windows vista now has to much troubles and I want to reinstall to get red of all these troubles and I heard that I can reinstall it using ((factory default)) DVDs which I made by acer eRecovery program when I bought this laptop but I must tell you that when I bought this laptop ,its hard disk came with only 3 partitions so I used its windows vista tools to create 2 new partitions and now I has 5 partitions so If I used ((factory default )) DVDs to reinstall windows vista ,AM I going to loose new 2 partitons I created and all data in them?
I have an Aspire 6930G and I used Vista 32bit for some time without any problems but I decided to try Windows 7 64bit and everything went fine except the sound. I downloaded the drivers for this version of windows straight from the Acer site (Realtek version 184.108.40.20688) and the sound is fine almost every time but sometimes it goes all weird and starts making a lot of noise. I've tried to delete all the sound drivers from device manager and installing them again and it happens just the same thing after a while.
Bought an acer aspire 6930g(6049) couple of months back.
im happy with the performance & all that, but one thing that really bothers me is the lower center part of the display (to be exact, rite on the acer logo) gets extremely hot.
now i've heard that some samsung lcds have overheating problems & this particular acer's display is a samsung-made. so i was wondering if its normal for these acers to get the display heated or is there something wrong with my piece?
Since a couple of days ago my laptop has been shutting down randomly, ranging from right after the Acer screen to hours into use.
I've noticed that when plugged in with the battery, the power light and the battery light will flash on and off. Sometimes the screen will go darker then brighter; I've set the screen darker when not plugged in. Which leads to the fact that the battery icon on the screen constantly goes from "Plugged in" to "Not plugged in". My battery will be dead even if I am plugged in for a few hours. I noticed that taking the battery out will cause my laptop to shutdown minutes after.
I cannot help but suspect something is wrong with my battery, as I have been using it today without putting in the battery for 3 or so hours, and then trying to put the battery in to see if anything changes, and the above problems came up. After taking it out, it shuts down and now it won't go as far as the Acer screen.
If indeed it is the battery that is causing this, do I send it back to Acer? Are there retail stores that would sell or even fix batteries? I live in Canada if that matters.
I have a Aspire 6930G, I want to upgrade to windows 7, from Vista. But this laptop came with Vista recovery CD's so the drivers are on those CD's can I still reformat and just put the drivers CD inside and reinstall them after I've changed to windows 7? By the way, I want to completely format the Hard Drive before I do any of this...
I've recently bought an Acer Aspire 6930G and am overall very pleased with it.
However, in the few weeks since i've bought it there has been one concern I have had.
Whenever the laptop is unplugged from the mains, it starts to make a faint buzzing sound. The sound seems to come from the 'tube' near the subwoofer on the back (where the power socket is on one side, and the Kensington Lock is on the other side). The buzzing also only seems to be coming from the right side of the laptop above the number pad.
What is also strange is that i am able to stop the buzzing by tipping the laptop sideways or moving the screen. This seems to indicate that something might be vibrating, but again only when the power cord is unplugged?
Like i say, i don't think its enough to take the laptop back (unless somebody tells me differently), but i am concerned enough to ask on here if anyone with the same or similar laptop has any ideas as to why this might be happening.
I'm An Acer Aspire 6930G user and it has vista home premium installed as OS. Today When I was trying to install Windows Xp on it A blue Error Screen Appear in the beginning of windows installing...I tried with 3 different Xp cd's but still the same problem.
Here's the full form of what that blue screen says:
The problem has detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage on your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow this steps:
Check for viruses in your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers.Check your hard drives to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.
I have the problem that my normal enter acts as numpad enter.
This is a big problem in games I play like Starwars Galaxies and Just Cause 2 as they don't react to the key being pressed and in SWG I cant chat or use key commands.
In Just Cause 2 I cant get past the menu and into the game.
I tried flashing my bios with the newest bios available and I also tried remapping using a program called KeyTweak (where it also told me I was pressing numpad enter when I used the normal enter) but neither solved the problem.
Acer Aspire 6930g : -Windows Vista -Intel Core2 Duo processor P7450, 2.13 Ghz -4 GB DDR2 -Nvidia Geforce 9600M 1GB -320 GB HDD -16" -Gorgeous laptop .. lol love it
It had a few sound problems ( not that annoying but I'd rather get rid of them ^^ ) with my subwoofer, now and again it did some annoying sound like grzzzz when it went to the bass. I had to change the sound to the normal settings, then go back to the high definition sound. ( the one with 6 or 7 different "speakers", instead of the normal stereo one which has only 2, Left and Right. )
Sometimes, my music stopped playing "problems with the audio card" or something.
So I decided to get rid of those problems by installing the latest ( i think ) realtek audio driver.
After the installation, i realised that : 1. The sound didn't work anymore AT ALL 2. When I went in that audio sound properties, it only showed me the stereo, and I can't see the 2nd one which had a better sound quality ( more speakers, more 3d sound .. )
Anyway, I just would like to know if the weird noise coming from the subwoofer is a big problem, and if I should get it back to the shop, or if it's only a driver problem. And I also would like to know how to get my sound back, and my high quality + subwoofer aswell.
