what I'm looking for in terms of purchasing a new hard drive for this machine?
i.e. does it need to be a specific Acer hard drive for this model, or a compatible one, or can it be any hard drive of the right size?
I have purchased a DVD Writer to replace the DVD-ROM the laptop came with. With some of my old laptops, these drives were held by one screw or a spring loaded lock, but this does not seem to be the case with the Acer.
which screws in which order need to be taken out to replace the drive?
I assume it's a Sata drive (think I have that right) I'm hoping I can replace it with a 320GB new drive.

I've planned on buying a WD Scorpio Black later and the replacing it.
How complicated would that be? What I mean is, that I can do the hardware replacing and all that, but is it enough that I would do a recovery disc with the original HD inside and then replace the HD's and then just boot from the disc. Or do I need to fiddle around with the SATA drivers,
I had two questions about replacing the hard drive on the 1st generation (rev A) MacBook Air (with the 80GB hard drive):
1. I believe I read somewhere that it uses a not-so-common connector/interface. So, does anyone know where you can get the type of hard drive the rev. A MacBook Air takes?
2. Has anyone ever done this? Is it hard to get inside the case? Hard to swap out the drive?
My laptop hard drive is about to fail and I plan on replacing it myself. However, if I'm unable to locate the original system drives, rescue disk, or Windows 7 software, what files do I need to make sure I copy before installing the new drive? I may go ahead and purchase a new copy of Windows and do a clean install but I'm concerned about the BIOS and other drivers.

when i switch the laptop on the screen comes on full white and then fades slowly to the bios screen (no hdd installed right now). I put a windows vista installation cd in to test it further and it faded slowly to the installation screen, everything moved in slow motion, the mouse cursor moved across the screen really slowly and leaves a trail. I've replaced the ribbon cable and that hasn't fixed it, it's not a motherboard fault that i know of because i've plugged an external monitor in and that worked so i've narrowed it down to either being a fault with the lcd or with the inverter.
i'll try to get a video of what i'm trying the explain, it's difficult, the screen sort of fades into view in blotches and patches all over.
I have a Acer Aspire 3610 and it works really well. (after turning the video card up in the bios). anyway, i wish to overclock it to get around 1.8 to 2 GHZ out of the cpu. unfortuntly this means more heat, im wanting to replace the fan with something faster. but after a fustraiting battle, i cant find out how to open it. i removed all the screws and pried the edges open but it wont budge. it would be awesome if someone could give me a step by step way to open it. some pictures would be cool too.

I have an old HP DV4000US laptop that has issues and does not stay on for long.
Is it possible to remove the hard drive from the HP notebook and put it in the Gateway notebook?
Whenever I try to launch Acer ePowerManagement I receive the following error:

The specified module could not be found.
I have uninstalled the program, deleted the driver and re-installed the program but to no avail.
I can right-click the ePowerManagement icon in the task bar and change cpu speed and Brightness but I can not launch the utility.
I am running Windows XP Home on an Aspire 3610.

I was pinmodding it so the pentium m 735 (1,7ghz) is running on 2,26ghz now...
everything works fine, but my rams are still running on 400mhz (200)... they support 533, 667, 800 mhz... i don't understand this!
i thought it have to run on 533mhz (266)... as fast as the fsb...

I am going insane, on the device manager it says I have two HDs, but I think one of them has been partitioned, the one with the windows data on (C drive) the HDs in my computer are displayed as this:
I've been told of a program call 'Raid' or something, but I'm really not sure what it actually does.
I just want to know if the two smaller HDs are partitioned and if possible, how to join them up again,
I picked up a 4730Z last week, and it has a 120GB HDD in it. I need a little more room, and am looking to add the full 4GB's of ram.
My question is which hard drive to get for this model. I'm not sure if I can use a 3.0 GB/s SATA or not or if I should get a 1.5 GB/s. I want at least a 320GB drive, but can't find any that specifically say there's a jumper option for 3.0/1.5. Search function yielded me no results either for the 4730Z specs.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was trying to replace a cracked screen and was having problems so tried to put the original one back in and order another one. However now when I power up the computer the front 2 lights - charging and lights come on but the hard drive doesnt even flicker nor does the wifi and the screen remains black. It doesnt even try to boot. SOmething else must have come loose or shorted I guess. Should I pull the laptop completely apart and check all connections now or what is likely to be the problem? Everything was working ok previously as I hooked the laptop with cracked screen up to a monitor and it worked perfectly before i started mucking about with the screen.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was given a laptop aspire v5-122p and the ALT+F12 for internal recovery is not working. The hard drive and partition seems corrupted and damaged. Windows 8 try to start but a message says there was something wrong and that it will try to fix fit but it restart and do the same in a loop. I scanned the hard drive with an application that let me run it from a usb bootable flash drive. The hard drive came with sector errors.
If i install a new hard drive, can i order an erecovery disc and install everything or do i have to do something special? i read somewhere that clean hard drives need to be prepared first with another set of tools provided by Acer. The tools provided in the link are in an ISO named "Format CD".
My high school-age son was working on an English paper when something fell off a shelf and whacked his Aspire 3680 right above the hard drive bay. It started clicking and finally crashed.
The computer won't run with the hard drive installed. It makes nasty clicking sounds trying to boot, and finally beeps and powers off. Without the hard drive, the laptop powers up and runs BIOS just fine.
We can buy a new hard drive, but it seems awful to pay Acer another $20 + $10 shipping for the Vista restore disk!
My old Aspire 1690WLMi runs Windows 7, but can`t run Aero cause it has an integrated graphics card. Hard drive space is super tight since it`s only 80gb. Thinking of getting a new laptop around $1000, but also considering just getting a new 320gb hard drive for $100. What do you think i should do - new laptop or new hard drive.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire 5750Z notebook which has fallen out with it's best friend the 2TB USB 3.0 Seagate expansion drive. The acer does not want to communicate with the external hard drive and will freeze, crash and stop responding. When the hard drive is not connected, the Acer is quite happy infact it works faster than it did before. Here is a list of the things:
1) I have removed the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers software. The acer restarted 3 times (to be expected) and reinstalled the missing drivers.
2) I have managed to gain a limited amount of access to the seagate where I partitioned one sector but it crashed again before I have the chance to do the other, and I have been unable to access the seagate since.
3) When I view disk management, I am never able to see the seagate drive sectors E and F but occasionally after running the seagate drive settings software I will see drive E but I am unable to access it.
3) I have checked the device manager for hardware conflicts both with the seagate connected as well disconnected and there are no hardware conflicts
4) I am tempted but not sure if I should flash the BIOS with this BIOS_Acer_1.21_A_A
i was wanting to boot from a usb stick to try out ubuntu. and acer rep told me that in order to do that, i needed to set a password in the bios system. so i did so, and turned off security to set the password. when i boot now, i get that little blue screen to put in my password, and i know what is is, but when trying to turn that off and using f2 to enter the bios normally it won't let me. it will ask me in a different format for the password.
My password that i put in is blue. and it takes me to the default screen where i can put in another password to get into windows. acer told me i needed to send in the computer and pay 100 dollars which isn't gonna happen anytime soon. i really need to get into the bios system to change the order up the boot sequence so i can try out ubunu. or any other program i want. i just tried to update the bios driver, and it still asks me for a "sato security password" just to clear the air. it has some number and letters associated with the pop up.
how to reset jumper setting for hardisk and cdrom drives. ...this problem occurred after setting-up cd-rom drives as master using eeprom utility. when i check the bios utility hardisk not detected and cd-rom drives shows instead.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have an Aspire 5750G that started out with 1TB of disk space. Now it says I only have 100GB free of ca. 650 GB! How did 1TB turn into 650 GB?! I've been trying to use Nero Backitup 2014 to back up my drive to my NAS, and couldn't - I think the capacity shrinkage is why. (Nero tells me there isn't room on my laptop to update, even though I'm trying to update FROM the laptop to the NAS. I went through the procedure with Nero Support, and they couldn't find out why it was happening.) I've done a disk defrag, but still haven't regained the missing capacity.

OS: Win7 64 Home
Problem: My 1TB capacity (not usage) appears to have shrunk to 650 GB.
Program troubles: Nero Backitup 2014 can't deal with the missing capacity, even when I try clearing out my NAS and doing a repeat backup. The exact error message is: It is not possible to sync because the space is full at this location: (My C: drive) Check the space and try again.
Tried: Defragging, no luck.
I bought my E15 without dvd-r, I cant access to the bios pressing F2.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Acer Aspire 5742G notebook and I'm having problems installing the Windows 7 OS on my new SSD hard drive (I bought the SSD because the original hard drive is failing and making blue screens all the time...)For the factory restore, I'm using restore discs. I burned the discs few years back when the laptop insisted me of doing it (by using eRecovery or something, 3 dvds total).
The computer tries to install the OS with the dvds (asks to insert a dvd and then press a key). The actual problem is that the installer is just going in loops, restarting and eventually freezing in the end.. Reboot -> Acer logo -> Windows is loading files... -> Starting windows -> Reboot -> etc.That kept going for more than a hour (on the first dvd!) and suddenly it just froze on the "starting windows" screen.. So I had to reboot and star over again.I can still use my old formatted HDD, should I make new set of recovery discs or use an USB drive?
In admin mode my hard-drive password is locked. My Acer is an eBay refurb w/ out warranty. What are my "free" options?
