View 1 RepliesI was given a laptop aspire v5-122p and the ALT+F12 for internal recovery is not working. The hard drive and partition seems corrupted and damaged. Windows 8 try to start but a message says there was something wrong and that it will try to fix fit but it restart and do the same in a loop. I scanned the hard drive with an application that let me run it from a usb bootable flash drive. The hard drive came with sector errors.
If i install a new hard drive, can i order an erecovery disc and install everything or do i have to do something special? i read somewhere that clean hard drives need to be prepared first with another set of tools provided by Acer. The tools provided in the link are in an ISO named "Format CD".
I have an envy laptop m6 and when I turn it on a blue screen comes up that asks for an administrator password. I have tried it multiple times and then it says system disabled and gives the code 85508345. Is there a way to reset the password?
View 5 Replies View Relatedi was wanting to boot from a usb stick to try out ubuntu. and acer rep told me that in order to do that, i needed to set a password in the bios system. so i did so, and turned off security to set the password. when i boot now, i get that little blue screen to put in my password, and i know what is is, but when trying to turn that off and using f2 to enter the bios normally it won't let me. it will ask me in a different format for the password.
My password that i put in is blue. and it takes me to the default screen where i can put in another password to get into windows. acer told me i needed to send in the computer and pay 100 dollars which isn't gonna happen anytime soon. i really need to get into the bios system to change the order up the boot sequence so i can try out ubunu. or any other program i want. i just tried to update the bios driver, and it still asks me for a "sato security password" just to clear the air. it has some number and letters associated with the pop up.

View 1 Replies View RelatedBought this notebook on Oct.30/14. Used it this past Friday; was working fine. Plugged it in for the night and the next day, I noticed the fan was running and I wasn't able to boot it. It won't shut off using the power button on side. The only way to shut it off was by using a paper clip on the reset on the bottom of the notebook.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Acer is detetecting my home wifi but cannot connect. I have the laptop just over a year and this problem has just cropped up.
It detects iPhone hot spot and connect to that.
There is no issue with the home wifi as other devices are coneecting without issue.
My laptop touch screen doesn't work consistently. my laptop suppose to have "full windows touch support with 10 touch points", but then when i checked out my pc info, it says "limited only".
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to reflash my BIOS from a USB stick to save a dead Aspire V5-122P. All I find is that I should extract the BIOS files found on the Acer website and load the resulting .fd file onto a USB.However, as my laptop is dead I have only a borrowed MacBook to work with, and none of my efforts to unzip the .exe file to its constituent parts have been successful. What is the BIOS files available for the V5-122P can be extracted, and if not tell me if there's any other way to find the correct files to reflash the BIOS?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire V5 122P-0408 notebook. I am considering upgrading the 5400 rpm hdd inside to an ssd. I will also be buying a new copy of Windows 8.1 to install. I have version 2.04 of the bios now. The latest bios version is 2.12. I was wondering if I would be able to install an ssd and 8.1 without updating the bios as I don't want to accidentally brick my laptop.
If not, would updating the bios fix any compatibility issues or add any new improvements?
My acer aspire v5 - 122p went through an automatic update recently after it powered back on it never booted past the initial Acer boot screen I eventually did a hard resetbut now the screen stays completely black the fan is on the blue lights are on but nothing else. From what I have read online you can flash the bios but the file I have downloaded on the Acer website does not match any of the tutorials I have read or watched.
View 7 Replies View Relatedwhen my computer boots up it says "automatic repair" then it says "diagnosing your pc" then it goes from the logo screen to a blue screen that says "automatic repair" it gives you options and plenty of them but none of them work for my notebook computer. im starting to think of just throwing it away because it cannot be repaired and i dont have a warranty on it anymore in order to send it in. even if i did have the warranty it would take months to get back to me. so.....anyways ive tried command prompt to somehow reset it to factory defaults but i do not know how to do that. when i click on refresh your pc it says "there was a problem with refreshing your pc." and then when i click on "reset your pc" says "there was a problem resetting your pc" ....
View 1 Replies View RelatedLast night I was using my laptop and it had about an hour of battery left when I put it in hibernate. Today, I tried to turn it on and absolutely nothing happened at all.
I tried taking the battery out, hard drive out, and the CMOS button battery out and leaving it for about half an hour. Put it back together again and nothing. I've had it plugged in for a while and the charge light is on, but it's not turning on still...
(Windows 8.1)
In the specs listed on the website, and on the sticker on the laptop itself:
320 GB Dual HDD
(160 GBx2)
I am going insane, on the device manager it says I have two HDs, but I think one of them has been partitioned, the one with the windows data on (C drive) the HDs in my computer are displayed as this:
I've been told of a program call 'Raid' or something, but I'm really not sure what it actually does.
I just want to know if the two smaller HDs are partitioned and if possible, how to join them up again,
I picked up a 4730Z last week, and it has a 120GB HDD in it. I need a little more room, and am looking to add the full 4GB's of ram.
My question is which hard drive to get for this model. I'm not sure if I can use a 3.0 GB/s SATA or not or if I should get a 1.5 GB/s. I want at least a 320GB drive, but can't find any that specifically say there's a jumper option for 3.0/1.5. Search function yielded me no results either for the 4730Z specs.

Caution to all Aspire One users?
I am considering upgrading my original HD in my Aspire 5672.
what drive I should consider?
I would like at least 200GB to make it worthwhile to do.
Great if I could increase performance as well.
I'm considering a HD replacement for my 5610Z and am considering the HITACHI Travelstar 7K320 HTS723232L9A360. I'm currently running the 0riginal HITACHI Travelstar 5K160 HTS541612J9SA00.
View 4 Replies View Relatedwhat I'm looking for in terms of purchasing a new hard drive for this machine?
i.e. does it need to be a specific Acer hard drive for this model, or a compatible one, or can it be any hard drive of the right size?
I was trying to replace a cracked screen and was having problems so tried to put the original one back in and order another one. However now when I power up the computer the front 2 lights - charging and lights come on but the hard drive doesnt even flicker nor does the wifi and the screen remains black. It doesnt even try to boot. SOmething else must have come loose or shorted I guess. Should I pull the laptop completely apart and check all connections now or what is likely to be the problem? Everything was working ok previously as I hooked the laptop with cracked screen up to a monitor and it worked perfectly before i started mucking about with the screen.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've tried disabling certain services, which seemed to work but only for a little while. Is 5400 rpm's too slow to run Windows 8.1 just because of all the programs and services that run in the background?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy high school-age son was working on an English paper when something fell off a shelf and whacked his Aspire 3680 right above the hard drive bay. It started clicking and finally crashed.
The computer won't run with the hard drive installed. It makes nasty clicking sounds trying to boot, and finally beeps and powers off. Without the hard drive, the laptop powers up and runs BIOS just fine.
We can buy a new hard drive, but it seems awful to pay Acer another $20 + $10 shipping for the Vista restore disk!
My old Aspire 1690WLMi runs Windows 7, but can`t run Aero cause it has an integrated graphics card. Hard drive space is super tight since it`s only 80gb. Thinking of getting a new laptop around $1000, but also considering just getting a new 320gb hard drive for $100. What do you think i should do - new laptop or new hard drive.
