My Aspire 5741z-5539 is locked up in the disk repair mode from system recivery (repir my computer). I have ordered a new hardrive. I would like to use a disc imge to transferr all the partitions and system restore data to the new hard drive. How can i do this. And is this the only option left open to me. to restores the operating system and system configuration.

View 2 Replies View RelatedVista Home Premium, didn't have a disc so ordered one from Dell. Upon startup it ask me to put a disc in to repair.
Will this work, my understanding you needed a Vista disc, and this computer does not seem to have a partition with Vista on it, for the repair. I wondering if this will work? I tried diagnostics everything seems fine, but it loops to safe mode.
In admin mode my hard-drive password is locked. My Acer is an eBay refurb w/ out warranty. What are my "free" options?

View 2 Replies View RelatedBack before Xmas, I had to reinstall the os so at the same time I changed the password for the hard disk that is set in the bios, before installing the os.
Problem is after the OS had installed and said it was shutting down to reboot, it never shut down properly so after 5-10mins I pushed the power button to force it to shut down.
Switched it back on, typed in the new hard disk password and it wouldnt accept it. Tried again but no success so tried the old hard disk password but even that didnt work. Anyway I've locked the hard disk now, not updated the bios or anything but wondered if there is anything I can do or Dell can do to unlock it?
Its an E6400 with the finger print scanner (can post the tag number) , I know its old laptop but still got all the receipts and everything to prove its not nicked and owned by the original owner.
my Windows is not able to boot and I have to repair it with a Windows Vista DVD taken from another Dell (Desktop) PC. The installation is not able to detect a drive and so I am not able to select a Windows installation to repair. I need the drivers for the Harddisk (or controller) to add it to the repair process. The problem is that on the Driver support page only firmware for the hard drive is available but no .inf file that I need for the repait.
where I can find the .inf file or if it is possible to extract the file from the destroyed windows installation (via live-linux).

I sent my Acer Aspire 4315 notebook to their repair center in Texas. I had a problem with the jack input for the power. It wasn't responding and found out that it was broken (Update: it wasn't actually broken it just felt very loose to the point were it might break). Also the left corner of the notebook was loose. In order to send in your notebook you have to use there online acer depot repair request system. So I sent it in using UPS ground which cost me $40. After 3 days I received and email saying it was received. 2 days later I receive another email saying it was fixed and will be shipped back using Fedex. Then 4 days later when I got home I received a "door tag" saying i wasn't there to pick up the package and sign for it. It came at 11:30 A.M and I get home a 4:00 P.M. So obviously I couldn't sign for it. Because of this problem I called and requested that they ship it after 4:00. They said they can ask the driver but it doesn't guarantee that will be shipped at the time you requested. So the next I come home I get another "door tag" saying I missed my package the second time. This time I asked them to leave it at there facility and let me pick it up. They said I would have to wait until tommorow to get my package. Tommorow arrives and I pick it up. Finally I have my notebook. I now drive back and open up the box. It came with a paper saying it was fixed. So I now get my AC adapter to plug it in. And guess what? They didn't fix the problem. I carefully looked at the paper and it said that they fixed problem stated which in there mind was the loose left corner of my notebook. WTF? They didn't even bother to fixed the important problem, the POWER JACK! That's horrible service! I then call them saying they didn't fix the problem. after being transferred 5 YES 5 TIMES! The support person said they will pay for the shipping to send it back. Which means that I will have to wait even more to get it back AGAIN and actually have it fixed. The only good part about it being shipped back is that they are going to use Fedex priority overnight. WOW WHAT A TREAT!
UPDATE: I havn't shipped the laptop back. I was about to until I decided to take one last "explore" inside of it. I found out that the power jack wasn't directly attached to the motherboard, just a wire leading to it. So with a little superglue or epoxy it would be fixed. Now that I know what to do. There will be no need to send it back and wait another horrible week!

My Aspire E15's brightness is locked at maximum capacity. I can't change it in power options or with the Fn key. It is the same whether connected to the AC adapter or not. While using the Fn key and pressing Fn+Left Key or Fn+Right Key, the on-screen brightness indicator alternates between two levels but the brightness of the screen doesn't change.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI Recently purchased an Acer Aspire One D257 - 13473 with mfg. date 2011/07/04 pre-owned at a garage sale. it had a dead hard drive when i purchased it, which was not a huge issue, and i replaced it.
then i was severely disappointed.
I went to try and configure this computer for my own use, but turns out there's (what im assuming to be a BIOS password, since the HDD has been replaced) a password to access the F2 SETUP Menu on this machine. i was really hoping that since I've already upgraded the RAM and replaced the hard drive that i could get this machine actually functionable again.
My xps was having start-up issues and when trying to run the Vista Start-up Repair disk I received an error:
'The instruction at 0x7336e159 referenced memory at 0x00000076. The memory could not be read. Press CANCEL to terminate the program'.
Then at re-boot I accessed the boot menu and ran a PSA Diagnostic and received the following error code while scanning the processor memory:
' ERROR CODE: 0142 MSG: Error 2000-0142 MSG: Hard Drive 1-Self Test unsuccessful STATUS: 79'.
I have installation disks as follows:
Dell Drivers and Utilities for XPS M1530, Dell Windows Vista Home Premium 32BIT Reinstallation DVD, Dell Media Direct 3.5 for XPS Reinstallation Disk.
What can I do?
Need my WiFi drivers for my Acer Aspire 5560. I no longer have the repair disc for the Aspire, but was reciveing a lot of errors and decided to use another disc to reinstall Windows 7. Once W7 was installed I was still missing my network drivers.

The wifi light is on and the system green light is on but nothing will wake it from its slumber. I was considering just turning off standby mode because I have to reboot the system whenever this happens. My aunts aspire one also does this so it would be helpful to get this figured out.

I just purchased an Aspire V5-561PG laptop. It has Windows 8.1 installed. I'm encountering a very frustrating problem with it and it seems to be a very common problem after searching on various tech forums. I am not able to get the laptop out of sleep mode once it goes into that mode. It's gone into sleep mode via inactivity, closing the laptop lid and by pressing Function+F4. I cannot get it to wake after each of these instances. The only thing I can do is hold down the power button to manually shut it down and then press the power button again to restart it. I'm not even 100% sure it's going into sleep mode with any of the 3 above scenarios. The screen goes black as you would expect but the lights in the bottom, front of the laptop are still all lit up. I would expect the lights to turn off when it's in sleep mode (maybe I'm wrong about that). I've changed the video drivers multiple times and that hasn't worked. I have the latest BIOS installed.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two aspire one running XP and one is very slow. I switched the HD and the problem remains with the notebook. I did upgrade the BIOS to the latest one, no change.
What I found is that the ATA/ATAPI controller is set to MODE PIO on the slow notebook and I cannot change it to ULTRA DMA. When I change the driver to the right one then at startup I need to get back to the previous correct configuration as oit will not load windows..
I have an Acer Aspire One with OS Win XP. This morning I went in the Power Management and decided to try Hibernate. I went away for a moment. When I returned, the On Switch was still green, but nothing worked. Black screen, HD dead like everything else. I tried F-Alt-F4 to no avail !
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Asprie 5739 appears to have gone into sleep mode. When I push the power button the power charge LED below the touch pad blinks, but it does not boot, even when I hold it for a long period of time.
I removed the battery and power, then plugged it back in, tried holding down the power button with the same result. Left it unplugged for a day, same result.
Have tried to hold the power button + FN F4, still not response.
I was given a broken 5600 - if I could fix it, it was mine. I fixed the electrical fault, but also foolishly deleted the hidden partition 1, which apparently held the restore image. The donor doesn't have the recovery CD, and I now need to do a full recovery. The drivers on the Acer site don't quite do the trick, and there's nothing I can find on the site to buy a new recovery disk.

I have to (I guess you would call it hard start it), reboot it to get it working again. Usually the screen is black when I reopen my laptop. Today, browser was barely visible. What is going on with my pc?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire E5-511 that stopped booting last saturday, from what I've found I have the black screen of death (or a dead motherboard, but I'm trying to keep it positive). I think I have the proper bios .fd files, but I'm not too sure, and I can't be sure about what to name said file. I can't be sure I'm going into the Crisis mode, but I do know that If I'm holding down fn+esc when I hit the power button then the processor fan runs alot faster.

I click the button that is suppose to clean the files but when it's done the words "low disk space" pops up again. Can you help me with this problem?
I've opened the my computer and I see Acer (C) It has 0% free space. Underneath acer (C) it says 8.35 MB free of 33.5 GB. I also see Data (D) underneath data d I see 33.1 GB free of 33.2 GB. The last thing I see is something that says unspecified, and underneath it it says DVD RW Drive (E). I don't know what to do next.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had to buy the recovery disk for my Aspire V5, when I start I change the bios to UEFI with secure enabled, then I use the disk Recovery System, once that I´m in the Acer Console Management, and I Selected the restore full, a pop up came with the message "Please Change your bios to Legacy¨ so I click on the exit button, and I enter to the bios and select the legacy mode, then the acer console management starts and says that the systems recovery fails because this is only for UEFI mode. So I dont know what to do, I have another 4 disk for the recovery but none of this is a booteable disk. Also I tried with UEFI and boot secure disable and same result .
