Dell Inspiron 1764 :: Will Not Boot After Using Windows 7 Installation Disc In Repair Mode
Mar 31, 2013
My Dell Inspiron 1764 laptop will not boot up after using windows 7 installation disc in repair mode, as it has to restart several times during set up, it would not restart after first phase of operation. It never got to finish operation. Now it is just coming up with a black screen saying, Windows boot manager
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change it might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. insert windows installation disc and restart computer (which it will not let me do)2. choose your language settings and then click next 3. click repair your computer
if you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance
file: BootBcd
status: 0x000000f
Info: an error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data
After start up even pressing F8 before logo disappears numerous times it will not let me into that menu, so I cant access start up in safe mode or last known good configuration. No matter what I do it will not go past the above message on screen. I do have 1 year left on my warranty

I have a dell xps17 (l702x) laptop recently had a problem with it , that is it wouldn't start up and when i turn it on after 2 seconds it would just crash , so i changed the motherboard , processor and and it fixed the problem to some extent .. now my problem is i that when i turn on it loads to a certain extent then when it reaches the windows start-up logo it would just crash and restart again . so i tried the diagnostic test available by pressing F12 it dint show any problem .. looks like my windows got corrupted due to the sudden crash earlier
I tried to boot from the windows repair disc but it wouldn't boot ( i did change the boot up to cd / dvd) then i tried to boot up from the windows 7 disc , it would say "press any key to boot from cd or ddvd " after doing so it would load the files and and crash again at windows start up . i even tried the safe mode option . it wouldn't load it completely and get stuck , i tried to restore to the last good backup it would still get stuck at windows startup .

I have a Lenovo Y410P that will not boot. The BIOS only sees to PXE boot. It does not attempt to boot from the Windows 8 installation disc, or from the hard drive that I reinstalled Windows on myself. I can boot to both of these on other computers, so I know they are not the problem. I'm thinking it's BIOS or motherboard related, but I'm not sure where to go from here.

My Inspiron 1764 won't boot. It worked fine up until this morning. This morning it stopped booting. I removed and reinstalled the battery and reseated the RAM and hard drive. Then it would boot but would constantly go into sleep mode. Now it will no longer boot at all. When plugged in the battery light stays illuminated and will stay on even after the cord is unplugged. When I press the power button the power button may light for a few seconds and then go out.

Is there a way to create a Windows Vista Installation disc from either the Hidden Partition or Recovery discs? I am not talking about a "Factory Restore"... I am talking about installing a clean version of Windows using the product key on the bottom of the laptop and then using the sony website or Recovery discs to install the drivers.

I'm looking for a downloadable recovery image for a Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 Windows 7. I had Linux on it since I bought it and now the wife wants to sell it and need to re-install windows. I deleted the recovery partition also, so I'm stuck trying to find a bootable installation disc.

I recently got this laptop and wanted to upgrade to Windows 8.1 immediatly since it came with Windows 7. This was of course and option with the disc set that came with the laptop. Unfortunately i have encountered problems in the installation/recovery of Windows 8.1.
When the laptop is finished using the actual disc's (i say finished because it spits out disc 4 which is the last one) and is booting into the OS to do the last installing it "freezes" in the middle of "dowork.cmd". In the cmd window it tries to access a destination directory which it can't. Instead of writing it here, i'm just gonna link a picture of it:
I just don't understand why simple recovery discs would cause a failure... Googling the problem has only lead to this: URL....

my Windows is not able to boot and I have to repair it with a Windows Vista DVD taken from another Dell (Desktop) PC. The installation is not able to detect a drive and so I am not able to select a Windows installation to repair. I need the drivers for the Harddisk (or controller) to add it to the repair process. The problem is that on the Driver support page only firmware for the hard drive is available but no .inf file that I need for the repait.
where I can find the .inf file or if it is possible to extract the file from the destroyed windows installation (via live-linux).

Vista Home Premium, didn't have a disc so ordered one from Dell. Upon startup it ask me to put a disc in to repair.
Will this work, my understanding you needed a Vista disc, and this computer does not seem to have a partition with Vista on it, for the repair. I wondering if this will work? I tried diagnostics everything seems fine, but it loops to safe mode.

I received my Dell Inspiron 15R - 5520 laptop and am attempting to set it up to perform a UEFI boot to a Windows 7 (64 bit) installation. I am using bios version A11 which is the latest available.
If I use legacy, I am able to boot fine to the Installation DVD and install/use the system. If I use UEFI (non-secure boot), it will freeze during the boot process for a long period of time. I do not ever get to the GUI to attempt installation. I have tried clearing the disk partitions using diskpart -> clean to ensure it is not due to having GPT vs MBR and have also tried changing the SATA adapter to ATA vs AHCI.
Alternately, I am able to boot to, and install Windows 8 RTM in UEFI mode.
Before I get a lot of responses of "Don't use UEFI", the reason I purchased this laptop was for the purpose of dual booting between windows 8 and windows 7 for development purposes, and require the use of secureboot to properly test the software I am developing. If this laptop is not able to run Windows 7 in UEFI mode, I will need to return it and select an alternate vendor.

My mums computer has ended up in a Black screen "Preparing automatic repair" loop and therefore will not boot :(
None of the repair options work from the boot options etc, so I need the OEM win 8.0 installation disk, so that I can at least boot to safe mode and maybe correct from there once out of the boot loop.

My 15-g092sa came with the atrocious win 8.1. I need to get some work done so I am trying to install my Windows 7 64 Pro. That DVD has been used for several times everytime I had replaced hardware. It boots up fine on other hardware. However, it will not boot on this machine. I found the BIOS settings and put the hard drive (windows boot manager) in the bottom. Everything else is on top of it and should boot before it. The DVD won't boot, a USB bootable ISO won't work...When trying to install from a running win8.1, the setup won't let me manage my partitions, a crucial reason for me to want to handle the installation myself. How do I boot things other than the bloatware that came with this PC?

I'm very stuck with my Y580, and I'll start by saying that I purchased the laptop about 1.5 years ago, and it came with Windows 8 installed. I didn't like Windows 8 so much, so I decided that I would get Win7. I also decided that I'd put it on an mSATA to speed things up. After doing so, I just formatted the boot partition on the older drive to use for storage. But I kept the recovery partition on there. Everything seemed to work fine until I was recently informed that I should update the BIOS. I followed all of the instructions from Lenovo in updating to the version 8.00, something like 89WW in the file name. Then recently I noticed my temps were realllly hot when gaming... and I don't play graphically demanding games. I monitored my temps and found out that my CPU (i73630QM) was running over 90°c when playing games like LoL, Dishonored, RIFT, Darksiders, and a few others, all on lower settings.
I did some googling about temps and a lot of people were saying that BIOS is often a culprit for high temps. Maybe you've already put two and two together, but it took me until this point to discover that the BIOS I had updated to is a Win8 BIOS, and I'm using Win7. I figured, this is probably a big part of my issue (and even if it's not going to solve the heat issue, I'd still like to have all my ducks in a row and have all my hardware/software/firmware compatible.
As we all very well know from the few years of tampering with these Y580s, the BIOS can't simply just be rolled back. But I figured there had to be a way. After googling around for some time, I ended up trying a few different things; editing the Config file for the earlier version of the Bios (which just resulted in another error and locked up the keyboard and mouse), I tried booting the BIOS image from a USB, but to no avail (I tried both booting from USB and also a force BIOS update, using the fn+B method, which I realize I may be doing incorrectly, as I am not entirely sure what I should name the ROM file... I can't boot windows to use ANDYSTOOL, so I named a bunch of different ROM files with different names that have worked for other people) ... so on and so forth...
The last thing I've tried was Restoring the BIOS to factory settings (within the BIOS) and now the computer will not boot windows. The Lenovo screen Posts, and Windows starts to load, freezes a moment, Blue Screens for a second, then reboots, saying that there is an issue with either Hardware or software, and gives me he option to either boot windows normally (which just results in the same thing again) or to run an automatic repair. I tried the automatic repair and it just sits on the "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen, and will do so for hours with no progress.

I bought a recent Inspiron 7720 laptop, with Win8 pre-installed. It seemed to be installing some updates, when it shut down(with them having installed only 35%). When I attempt to power on, it passed the Dell logo screen, then sticks FOREVER (doesnt load the w8OS apparently). I tried the battery out-in trick - doesn't work.
If I press F2, it guides me to BIOS (Phoenix A10) Disabling secure boot and starting Legacy mode has NO IMPACT WHATSOEVER, exactly the smae startup issues but without the "F12 Boot Option)
If I press F12 during logo screen, it takes me to "F12 Boot Options", which is a black screen with an empty progress bar in the middle(apparently this should have the option to run a PSA diagnostic but it DOESNT SHOW ANYTHING!)....

I start the laptop and I get the black screen with the Dell logo on it. There is a progress bar at the bottom that moves across to the right as the boot up progresses. In the bottom right corner, it shows the option of hitting F2 for Set Up or F12 for Boot Menu. I can access both of these menus. It then progresses to a screen with the Windows logo with the words "Resuming Windows" underneath. Once that completes, I get a black screen!
I was told that I should boot up the laptop in safe mode by hitting F8.....
I can't seem to get this to work.

I received the Dell N5110 laptop without OS today. Strangely package also didn't contain any disc with drivers. When I installed Windows 7 as usually it didn't recognize many devices. Ethernet controller was among those devices, so I couldn't connect to the internet and use Windows Update to find the drivers. Using my mobile phone as a modem and Windows Update I managed to get Ethernet Controller, so now at least can connect to the internet directly. But Windows Update doesn't find drivers for rest of the devices as it did for my ASUS notebook. Drivers and Download Support section for this notebook also isn't very useful, there are basically no drivers at all... So how am I supposed to find them? So annoying.. Dell, is it that hard to list relevant drivers in the downloads?
How can I find the right drivers? Meanwhile I'll try my luck with these: [URL] ....

I'm doing a bit of shopping for friends... they're on a tight budget and have basic needs, so I thought the Inspiron 17 would be a good choice.
I was looking at the core i3 model listed at 799$ here.
In all the images we can clearly see an HDMI port on the left side of the laptop, but it is not listed in the Tech Specs section.
I asked a sales rep through chat but he couldnt provide me with convincing evidence that this laptop did/did not have an HDMI port.

I need to upgrade (get larger) external hard drives for my Photography Folders, plus an identical Backup HD...
Can the Dell Inspiron 1764 with Win 7/64 support external HDs over 2TB as one partition?
I am thinking of getting 2/3TB or 2/4TB External HDs (not RAID), to replace what I have now..
