View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Sony VGN-S260 laptop. I got it fixed and installed a Western Digital 250GB Scorpio Blue EIDE hard drive. I updated to the latest bios available and also installed WINXP SP3. The HDD is only detected as 137GB on the bios and 128GB roughly on windows. I heard that WINXP SP1 and above supported 48-bit LBA and I did not see an option to add partitions to utilize all space on my HDD. I also tried PM 8.0 and it did not see the extra space. I am in a bind and would like to use my space on the hard drive.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a ThinkPad x121e (from memory) which I like. However it has a maximum memory threshold of 8Gb.
I need more memory so that I can host some Virtual Machines to do some development work - I was just wondering which current ThinkPad models supported 16Gb of RAM (not necessarily out of the box, but by purchasing from Crucial or similar).
I've searched and found a page but it wasn't up to date: [URL] ....
i.e. it doesn't show the X1 Carbon or the Yoga (I know it's not thinkpad) models
Basically I'm after something similar to what I've got with improvements (a little bigger would be fine but not too big - say 14" max) - good battery life, can have windows 8.1, a touch screen and can get an SSD (again happy to upgrade via crucial or other third party) and can support 16Gb of RAM.
My Aspire E15's brightness is locked at maximum capacity. I can't change it in power options or with the Fn key. It is the same whether connected to the AC adapter or not. While using the Fn key and pressing Fn+Left Key or Fn+Right Key, the on-screen brightness indicator alternates between two levels but the brightness of the screen doesn't change.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm doing a bit of shopping for friends... they're on a tight budget and have basic needs, so I thought the Inspiron 17 would be a good choice.
I was looking at the core i3 model listed at 799$ here.
In all the images we can clearly see an HDMI port on the left side of the laptop, but it is not listed in the Tech Specs section.
I asked a sales rep through chat but he couldnt provide me with convincing evidence that this laptop did/did not have an HDMI port.
My Inspiron 1764 won't boot. It worked fine up until this morning. This morning it stopped booting. I removed and reinstalled the battery and reseated the RAM and hard drive. Then it would boot but would constantly go into sleep mode. Now it will no longer boot at all. When plugged in the battery light stays illuminated and will stay on even after the cord is unplugged. When I press the power button the power button may light for a few seconds and then go out.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy Dell Inspiron 1764 laptop will not boot up after using windows 7 installation disc in repair mode, as it has to restart several times during set up, it would not restart after first phase of operation. It never got to finish operation. Now it is just coming up with a black screen saying,Windows boot manager Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change it might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. insert windows installation disc and restart computer (which it will not let me do)
2. choose your language settings and then click next
3. click repair your computer
if you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance

After start up even pressing F8 before logo disappears numerous times it will not let me into that menu, so I cant access start up in safe mode or last known good configuration. No matter what I do it will not go past the above message on screen. I do have 1 year left on my warranty..Even pressing power button for 30 seconds with power disconnected, or pressing F8 button several times on start up doesn't go into menu at all....
I have tried ctrl+alt+prtsc, just prtsc alone and just ctrl+prtsc and nothing works. How do I print screen from this laptop?

Can the Dell Inspiron 1764 with Win 7/64 support external HDs over 2TB as one partition?
I am thinking of getting 2/3TB or 2/4TB External HDs (not RAID), to replace what I have now..
When upgrading windows 8 told me to remove the old bluetooth driver... then at some point I also formated and installed windows 8 clean
When I go to instal the driver that worked for win7 64 bit it does not let me do it.. because there is compatibility problems

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 1764 about a month ago it started having internet problems. I have ruled out the problems being related to the actual internet service. I have excellent wifi signal and yet my laptop constantly connects and disconnects. The length of time varies. Some days I get to be on the net while others I dont at all. I have run diagnostics, downloaded darn near every update imaginable.

Is there a BIOS limitation on the 5160 for HDD capacity? I had to replace the drive and it is seeing a 160G drive as 70G.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've had this laptop for just over a month and the battery capacity is only at 83% (tested with Dell Support Center). A couple of days ago this was at 87%.
If this is normal for the battery to lose capacity so quickly (nearly 20% in just over a month seems a lot to me..) or should I consider asking Dell for a replacement?
Is it possible for me to upgrade my memory capacity?

I have a Dell Inspirion 5520 that has Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230 built in.Also I have a TP link TL-WR740N wireless router.I have an 80Mbps/25MBps internet connection. My Speedtest result with no router:When I connect all these via an Ethernet cable, I get the maximum even through the router:But when I try to do the same with WiFi I get 30/20 Maximum speed, and I'm sitting next to router!I have this configuration:*router:* -
Channel: auto - Mode: 11n only - Channel width: 40Mhz - Max Tx rate: 150Mbps - Enabled Wireless Router Radio - Enabled SSID Broadcast - Security: WPA- AES - Beacon Interval : 100 - RTS Threshold: 2346 - Fragmentation Threshold: 2346 - DTIM Interval: 1 - Enabled WMM - Enabled Short GI *Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230:* - 802.11n Channel width for band 2.4 : Auto - 802.11n Mode: enabled - Ad Hoc Channel 802.11b/g: 1 - Ad Hoc QoS Mode: WMM enabled - Bluetooth(R) AMP: Enabled - Fat Channel Intolerant: Disabled - Mixed Mode Protection: CTS-to-self Enabled- Roaming Aggressiveness: 3. do get the fact that speed through wireless is slower than with wire, but losing 50Mbps is a bit too much!
Is there any way how to "charge" battery to its designed capacity?
My battery is 2 years old and I was wondering if there is any way how to "renew" it (except buy new one)?
I have a new XPS 12 and has been working fine until today, I lost the cursor for a while. When that came back, I can no longer click (left or right) anything. HAVE to use touch screen. I use mostly as laptop rather than tablet, so would rather get my click back!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm a photographer, and bought an XPS 15 9630 to do my photo editing. The machine came with the 30Gb mSATA and 1Tb HDD, which wasn't nearly enough for my needs. I've successfully fitted a Samsung 1Tb mSATA, but I would like to upgrade the other drive also. At the moment I have 2 1Tb hard disks, and 2Tb total storage. (After a fair bit of fiddling in BIOS)
I have a Seagate Spinpoint M9T 2Tb disk which I would like to use,but when I fit it, it didn't show up in the BIOS or O/S. It works fine in other laptops. The disk that came with the laptop is 6mm, this one is 9mm, but seems to fit fine. The disk shows up if I remove the mSATA.Is this a problem that can be overcome?
I just received a Genuine Dell XPS M1530 9 Cell 85Whr Battery. Now i plugged the battery in and it is now fully charged but i am confused as the capacity is at 69/66whr(105%).
Isn't this battery meant to be 85whr? Is this normal as i believe my other battery which is a 6 cell is at 52/50whr(103%) and that is a 56whr battery. If so that sorta sucks a fair bit considering im loosing almost an hour of run time just in calculations the same as HDD Sizing.
