I take I can't upgrade to anything else?
i would like to upgrade my video card, if it is possible and if it is worth it. my 1720 has the mobile intel 965 express chipset family. ive seen sigs (dr650se and someformofhuman) stating that they have the nvidia 8600m gt and was wondering if this is compatible with my 1720.
also i found out through this forum that i can upgrade my cpu (which is the measly t5450 1.66 ghz) to the beastly t9300, and add a 2nd hard drive (which is my first step in upgrading this dell because i only have a 160 gb drive).
i was looking for a new laptop until i came across this forum and found out the possibilities of my dell. i decided to stick with this and just upgrade it! thanks for the insight, and thanks in advance for all the help that i will be asking for!
I have a 15-f023wm laptop. I am trying to find the maximum memory that I can install.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a ThinkPad x121e (from memory) which I like. However it has a maximum memory threshold of 8Gb.
I need more memory so that I can host some Virtual Machines to do some development work - I was just wondering which current ThinkPad models supported 16Gb of RAM (not necessarily out of the box, but by purchasing from Crucial or similar).
I've searched and found a page but it wasn't up to date: [URL] ....
i.e. it doesn't show the X1 Carbon or the Yoga (I know it's not thinkpad) models
Basically I'm after something similar to what I've got with improvements (a little bigger would be fine but not too big - say 14" max) - good battery life, can have windows 8.1, a touch screen and can get an SSD (again happy to upgrade via crucial or other third party) and can support 16Gb of RAM.
how to upgrade memory my notebook, because I have a notebook inspiron 1564 with 4Gb RAM and I'd change to 8Gb RAM. But searching int internet I' ve found only memories with frenquency 1333Mhz and the memories in the my notebook are 533MHz.
Is there any problem and is it possible upgrade memory ispiron 1564 4Gb to 8Gb?
I upgraded my dell n411z to one block 8gb memory ram, after this, the laptop doesn't boot. Also not enter to the bios. In a old post i read that the laptop has two memory slots, however, when i replaced the memory only see only one slot. Previusly i cheched the memory compatibility and it's acording to the specs. When i returned to the original memory it works. Why can't i upgrade the memory?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a used Elitebook 8540w with i7 quad core and four memory slots (I love it!). It is running 64 bit Windows 7 Professional It came with one 4gb memory module and I purchased an additional 4gb module to bring total RAM to 8gb.
I have the HP document that shows for two 4gb memory modules, one should be in memory slot 1 and the other in memory slot 3 for correct functioning of dual channel memory. All set right?
Not quite. In the Elitebook 8540w, the primary memory slots under the keyboard are clearly labeled "1" and "2" However, the expansion memory slots on the underside of the chassis are also clearly labeled "1" and "2" Opps! There is no "3" and there is no "4" In which of the unfilled three slots do I install the second 4gb module for correct functioning of dual channel memory?
i have a dell 1720 with a t2390 cpu running at 1.86 ghz with 2gb of ddr2 667 mhz ram and was wondering what is the fastest cpu i can run in this system without modification, just want a quick upgrade where i can drop in the cpu without changing heat sink etc? would i have to change the ram aswell?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had this laptop for just over a month and the battery capacity is only at 83% (tested with Dell Support Center). A couple of days ago this was at 87%.
If this is normal for the battery to lose capacity so quickly (nearly 20% in just over a month seems a lot to me..) or should I consider asking Dell for a replacement?

looks and i would much rather prefer this to upgrade to SSD, rather than buying a new laptop
I have a 2.5 year old E1705 notebook. I'm going to upgrade to W7 soon and in the process I thought I'd upgrade my memory from 2GB to 4GB.
I ran Dell's utility from their tech support page and it seems to be the case that the maximum my computer will support is 2GB! Is that possible?
In any case, I ran a diagnostic program (from Dell's utility) and it says my computer has two memory slots, and currently each slot on my computer has "Dual In-line Memory Module 1GB, 533, 128X64, 8K, 200", whatever that means.
I assume the 533 is memory speed (Hz) value. So according to Dell's utility, I am unable to increase the amount of RAM, but I could, for instance, "upgrade" to better chips (i.e., Dell sells DDR2 SDRAM Memory Speed: 800 MHz). Price would be $56.
I'm planing to upgrade Ram Memory of my DELL XPS 15z for running some virtual environments. My question it's about the max amount of memory that the laptop support and the compatible memory modules. In some forums I read about 16Gb, but Dell PcCheckup shows 8Gb as the max amount of memory.

I have seen taht a number of Inspiron 1720s have the 8600m GT card in them with 512 mb of memory, while others such as mine have the same card, but with 256mb memory on them.
I'm getting ready to start doing some photoshop work as well as some CAD work. I'm going to start my engineering degree as soon as I finish my current degree. Would this increase in memory help out in what I will be doing?
Will it also help in gaming? I pretty much use this laptop for everything and am trying to learn what I can about it so I fully understand it's capabilities and such.
I am stuck looking at a black screen. Also, when closing the lid I am unable to open the lid and restore my previous session.
Although I am not sure if this is directly related but it seems to only deter me from restoring the session if the computer has been plugged in, otherwise the laptop comes back exactly as it was.
I have tried reinstalling the video driver twice, both times doing a complete clear and removing all registries tied to them
can i upgrade from 2GB to 3GB or necessarily i have to go to 4G?
tks, Douglas
I have a Dell Inspiron 9300, about 4 years old. I bought it with 1 gb RAM, and I'd like to extend the life of it by a few months, and make it a little faster.
This is the RAM that dell recommends for my laptop to upgrade:

Unfortunately, looking at my order when I first got the laptop, it says this .....
I have a Dell XPS M1210 notebook with 2x512MB DDR2 533MHz Memory. Now i wants to upgrade my memory but there is a lot of confusion in what module
i should buy.
After going through several sites i have came up with a few options and understanding them is so far above my knowledge.
There are 533MHz and 667MHz available ...
i do not know which one should i use .
There is also question of dual channel and shared channel ... where i am totally lost.
My hdd crapped out and I'm replacing it - I am toying with the idea of upping my memory as well. Current memory:
DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 256, 333, 32X64, 8K, 200
I am looking at one stick of:
Transcend 1GB 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR 266 (PC 2100) Notebook Memory Model TS128MSD64V6A - Retail
I mainly use office and surf the net.
PROCESSOR, 80535, 1.5G, 1M, PENTIUM M BANIAS, PLASTIC GRID ARRAY, INSPIRON
1) Given my usage and proc, is adding 1gb overkill?
2) Is there any advantage to getting 2 new sticks of 512, rather than one new stick of 1gb and 1 old stick of 128mb?
3) Is there any advantage to getting higher-speed ram (PC>2100)?
I was bored tonight so I ran some benchmarks on my 1720, Specs in Sig
Only change was the GPU was overclocked.
1st Pic is 3DMark @ stock clocks.--------3449
2nd Pic is 3DMark Overclocked-----------4366 Old 4259, 4271, 4280
3rd Pic is Vantage @ stock clocks--------P1115
4th Pic is Vantage Overclocked-----------P1457 Old P1410
I didnt get time to finish a Vantage run on my last set oc clocks since it needed tweaking due to display driver crashes. GPU temps never reached higher the 67*C when overclocked
Whenever I close the computer it will crash. Upon re-opening it I am greeted with the BIOS loading screen and the the message telling me my computer was not properly shut down.
I'm not really sure why this happens. If anyone has had this problem and knows how to fix it ....
my friend bought a new inspiron 1720 with an 8400m graphics card and he is trying to play counter-strike and it sucks so he wants to replace that with a different a better graphics card what are his choices, does he have the opportunity to put like a 7900 gs or no
View 10 Replies View Relatedanyone run a benchmark utility such as Lavalys Everest or Sisoft Sandra or similar to tell me the name of the manufacturer of the Firewire chipset in the Inspiron 1720 please? Not the motherboard or CPU chipset, just the firewire component of the laptop, please.
The benchmark software is free, and they tell you what components are inside your particular computer.
Reason I'm asking is that I have an external firewire soundcard (for professional music recording), and for maximum compatibility the soundcard manufacturer recommends the soundcard only be used with certain firewire chipsets.
