I have a Sony VGN-S260 laptop. I got it fixed and installed a Western Digital 250GB Scorpio Blue EIDE hard drive. I updated to the latest bios available and also installed WINXP SP3. The HDD is only detected as 137GB on the bios and 128GB roughly on windows. I heard that WINXP SP1 and above supported 48-bit LBA and I did not see an option to add partitions to utilize all space on my HDD. I also tried PM 8.0 and it did not see the extra space. I am in a bind and would like to use my space on the hard drive.
I have an Inspiron 700m and the hard drive finally died. I saw a few posts on what type of hard drive to get, but does anyone know what's the maximum size I can use?
I just purchased a Thinkpad Edge model E531. The shop transferred data from my previous laptop. I am getting an alert message that says I only have1.21G free of 13.67G on my primary drive. Is this a problem, and how can this be the case on a new machine...
I have an Aspire 5750G that started out with 1TB of disk space. Now it says I only have 100GB free of ca. 650 GB! How did 1TB turn into 650 GB?! I've been trying to use Nero Backitup 2014 to back up my drive to my NAS, and couldn't - I think the capacity shrinkage is why. (Nero tells me there isn't room on my laptop to update, even though I'm trying to update FROM the laptop to the NAS. I went through the procedure with Nero Support, and they couldn't find out why it was happening.) I've done a disk defrag, but still haven't regained the missing capacity.
Model: Aspire 5750G
OS: Win7 64 Home
Problem: My 1TB capacity (not usage) appears to have shrunk to 650 GB.
Program troubles: Nero Backitup 2014 can't deal with the missing capacity, even when I try clearing out my NAS and doing a repeat backup. The exact error message is: It is not possible to sync because the space is full at this location: (My C: drive) Check the space and try again.
whats the maxmimum GB harddrive i can put in the 5310, currently running a 250GB although i think the 500GB are SATA2 will the 5310 accept SATA2 hard drives?
I have inspiron 5520 with 2 gb RAM. I would like to upgrade RAM as it is loads of time to do multitasking. I tried to search to RAM with service tag but it not get any results on dell hardware purchase website. which RAM should I install and what is the maximum capacity of RAM it supports.
What is the maximum ram capacity of a older X31 2673? I would like to take it to the highest possible; is 4Gb ram an option? I'm hoping this will speed up things, as it's slow at times.
I have a ThinkPad x121e (from memory) which I like. However it has a maximum memory threshold of 8Gb.
I need more memory so that I can host some Virtual Machines to do some development work - I was just wondering which current ThinkPad models supported 16Gb of RAM (not necessarily out of the box, but by purchasing from Crucial or similar).
I've searched and found a page but it wasn't up to date: [URL] ....
i.e. it doesn't show the X1 Carbon or the Yoga (I know it's not thinkpad) models
Basically I'm after something similar to what I've got with improvements (a little bigger would be fine but not too big - say 14" max) - good battery life, can have windows 8.1, a touch screen and can get an SSD (again happy to upgrade via crucial or other third party) and can support 16Gb of RAM.
My Aspire E15's brightness is locked at maximum capacity. I can't change it in power options or with the Fn key. It is the same whether connected to the AC adapter or not. While using the Fn key and pressing Fn+Left Key or Fn+Right Key, the on-screen brightness indicator alternates between two levels but the brightness of the screen doesn't change.
I have a vgn260 that I got almost 5 years ago. I've been told that this is ancient for a Sony laptop and that I should just get a new one, but when my computer is working it does everything I need it to and is still very portable by today's standards. I had to replace the original hard drive a couple years back which I was able to do by myself, and I elected to install ubuntu instead of windows since I don't use the computer for anything beyond internet access.
The problem that my computer has developed is that a majority of the time it won't boot up. I'll press the power button, the lights near the wifi switch will come on, but the screen will remain dead and I hear no hard disk turning or other sounds of the machine "thinking." At this point my course of action is to power the computer down, shake it lightly, and try again. This tactic always works.
I have come to the conclusion that something is likely loose within the computer, although I don't hear anything when I shake it. I've opened it up twice looking for something that jumps out at me, but to no avail. I've also heard very bad things about Sony's customer support, so I'm hesitant to send it to them because A) they might not get it right, B) they will overcharge me, and C) the computer is worth less than a fresh version of microsoft office.
I have a sony laptop vgn-s260 and the problem i have is that each time that I try to turn on the wireless card, the laptop restart and the only way to maintain the laptop working is turning the wireless card off.
who opened I believe Z and connected a hard drive to dvd drive connector while leaving dvd drive in for cosmetic reasons. Can't find this thread. Where exactly can the hard drive go? Inside the tray?
I am afraid there will be too much vibration if I put regular HD there. For this reason I would rather put there SSD but is there a way to make this a primary OS drive? Seems like last bios allows to boot from optical drive.
I have a question about my dell Inspiron N4030 A05. am thinking about buying new pieces for my PC.
But I don't know exactly the amount RAM my laptop can expandAs mentioned at subject, i want to install more RAM for my laptop (up to 8GB or more) and i wold like to buy 1TB hard driver but i don't know he will work with my computer.
What is the maximum memory my laptop can install and so that for the hard driver ?
I currently have an FE790p. After a few years of use, its getting a bit slow, and I would really like to upgrade to Windows 7 (currently running Vista Business). I get Windows 7 for free through my school, and rather than simply upgrading, I want to do a clean install. I also want to upgrade my current 120GB 5400RPM HDD to a new, bigger 7200RPM HDD.
Is it possible to simply buy a larger drive, install it, and then boot up the computer with windows 7 from a USB flash drive? I'm not sure if this would work, as there would be no drivers present, etc.
I would really like to be able to just keep my old hard drive and all of its contents, and possibly use it as sort of an external hard drive. Is this possible? Furthermore, if I can keep the old hard drive, is there a way to connect it as an external hard drive, and still boot from it?
my laptop hard drive stop working is not recognized by the OS indicate no hd found, therefore i need to replace it. but i do not know how to do it. how to remove the hd, how to find it, etc.
i noticed my computer only has a maximum of 287 GB while it is advertised as 320 GB. Is this because something is taking up the rest of the space(ie: OS)? But even so would it really take that much space and shouldn't the hard drive in Local disk (C properties still say it's out of 320 GB?
sony is being sony and wont honor warranty. they say the dent in my chassis (happened 8 months ago) has affected the hard drive so they wont honor warranty. i am furious. i want to use this laptop. what do i do? and the preloaded software was on drive and now not avaialbe.
I purchased a VGN-SR430J/B and I cleaned it with killdisk and installed windows 7 32bit.
This model comes with a 320GB HDD, yet when I go to my computer it says that I have 273GB free of 287GB total. So I assume the 14GB (287-273) being used is somehow the 2.5 GB Windows 7 32bit. But 320 - 287 is 33GB, where did it go? Where can I look?
I have a Vaio with a damaged hard drive. I need to replace it, but don't know what to replace it with... I've looked online but can't seem to locate the specs of the hard drive. VGN-TXN15P
