Then I looked to device manager and there was an unkown device. So I tried to reinstall fingerprint drivers but even though it still does not work and in device manager is "unknown device". How to make it work? I tried to install this driver: [URL] ..... I use Win7 64bit.

Whenever Im on battery, dvd-rom automatically turns itself off and I'm not able to turn it on again, clicking "power on" doesn't have any affect, and there is no setting in power manager that is related to this.I tried to reinstall microsoft drivers for dvd device,I tried to update PM and PM driver, but it didn't work. When I remove it in device manager and reboot system then it is ok, but this solution lasts until next boot.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new Edge E531 that I have upgraded to Win 8.1. I am trying desperately to learn to use the TouchPad, and by tweaking the various settings I am able to get it to work ok.
Except for one thing: sometimes, it seems that the TouchPad will automatically perform the default action in a dialog box or click a button automatically.
I have gone through all the settings and see nothing related to this.
Is this known behavior? Can it be prevented?, I know I can disable the TouchPad and only use TrackPoint, but since Lenovo no longer has separate right and left mouse buttons, I find it hard to use.
I have a Lenovo E531 and Upon turning the Laptop on after having it unplugged for a short period of time, it will turn on to a screen that says..."Battery Critical" or something to that effect, telling me it can't boot and to plug the machine in. So I turn off the laptop, pull the battery out, plug the battery back in and then turn it on and it boots just fine.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo i bought a new refurb e531 i7 3632qm 4rb ram 500gb 7200rpm drive. Machine runs awesome however As soon as i turned it on i noticed it gave a battery not geunine message from the bios had to push esc to continue.
Ignored it figured maybe it would learn the battery or something.
Anyhow its been a good 10 hours now still give me the message as well as i noticed its not charging when plugged in. In an attempt to fix this i have.
updated bios. Uninstalled and reinstalled newest power management software and driver's shutdown system unplugged power cord pulled battery and waited 30seconds and reinsterted battery then charger.
Im so far not impressed with this geunine battery firmware built into the system cant even detect their own battery !!
I have a new Edge 531 just upgraded to Win 8.1. The Lenovo Solution Center gives me a Virus Protection Alert - even though Norton says all is OK. When i click to enable anti-virus in the Solution Center, nothing happens. How do I cancel the message?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI got an Edge 13 with Windows Ultimate installed. I want to replace the existing disk with a SSD and I collect the windows key for the installation with jelly bean keyfinder.
The problem ist that windows does not recognize this key to activate windows. I also did not find the key on the notebook.
The key itself is valid because on the old disk Windows is activated....
When my E531 is connected to Onelink Dock Pro and the lid is closed, at least 50% of times it won't boot up. When I open the lid, either there is a boot screen or the screen is blank. Usually when I hold the power button for a few seconds and then try again, computer boots normally. For me it seems this is some kind of a BIOS issue because Windows is not booted yet. Sometimes the problem occurs when the lid is open too. Without the dock the computer functions properly.
At first i had a BIOS version 1.23 (which I didn't found on the internet btw) and then tried to fix a problem by downgrading to 1.22. I also changed several BIOS options reagarding the booting process. I have the computer on a shelf where the lid cannot be opened.
After installation updates from Lenovo Update I always get error "rundll" when I start system with message: There was a problem starting C:Program The specified module could not be found.
I have new E531 with Windows 8 and after Windows Updates was all right.
I have a newish (4/2014) Thinkpad E440 with a 500 GB HD. All of a sudden, the hard drive has filled up. I cannot account for all of the space. Here's what the system says:
35.2 GB available of 452 GBApps: 31.4 MBPictures: 76.1 GBVideos: 137 MBMusic: 20.9 GBDocuments: 8.14 GBDownloads: 0 bytesRecycle bin: 0 bytes
So you can see this is a wee bit over 135 GB. Where in the world is the rest of the space? Here's what I've looked at / done so far:
"System Protection" is turned on and is currently using 10.48 GB. I have the max set at 3% (13.59 GB). There are currently 3 saved restore points. --> EDIT now it says it's using 5.97 GB and there are only two restore points now.I've run "Disk Cleanup" and it says I could regain 33.6 MB. Whoo-whooooo!The disk was 1% fragmented so I ran defrag.I ran the error checking tool on the drive and it said there were no errors on the drive. Now, after finishing the defrag, I've lost more space "as we speak"20.4 GB available of 452 GBApps: 31.4 MBPictures: 76.1 GBVideos: 137 MBMusic: 20.9 GBDocuments: 8.14 GBDownloads: 0 bytesRecycle bin: 0 bytes
FYI: When I go to Lenovo Solution Center and click on Support and then go to Configuration History, the calender there shows the yellow triangle with the exclamation point in it for "System Events" on every single day that I use the laptop. When I click on one of those days, it shows multiple "Application Errors". This has been going on since the day I got it. I don't know if there is a log somewhere that is spiraling out of control.
I forgot to say I use Kaspersky Pure 3.0 for virus software and I have it performing a Full Scan, a Vulnerability scan and a Critical Areas scan every day. I also scanned the drive with Malware Bytes and it did not find any malware. Also I am running Win 8.1 - it came that way from Lenovo.
I would like to know the interface type of the optical drive sata port of a ThinkPad E540. It's a sata I, sata II or sata III?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Sony VGN-S260 laptop. I got it fixed and installed a Western Digital 250GB Scorpio Blue EIDE hard drive. I updated to the latest bios available and also installed WINXP SP3. The HDD is only detected as 137GB on the bios and 128GB roughly on windows. I heard that WINXP SP1 and above supported 48-bit LBA and I did not see an option to add partitions to utilize all space on my HDD. I also tried PM 8.0 and it did not see the extra space. I am in a bind and would like to use my space on the hard drive.

Right now I'm not able to boot from CD, it will always boot into the preinstalled Windows 8.
I've tried the F12 method to select a different boot device during startup where I can see the installed DVD RAM drive and select it, but no effect it returns immediately to the select screen.
I've played around with the various BIOS setting disabling the secure boot option and changing the boot order so that the DVD drive is first. Then the system will check for the the CD (you can hear it spinning during start up) but will start into Windows 8 right afterwards again.
I checked with various bootable CDs as well as DVDs but always same effect.
What am I missing? Any other BIOS or Windows 8 settings I need to change for that.
I have other Lenovo notebooks running like the X230, the T520 or an older T61 where booting from CD never seems to be an issue.
As the DVD drive is working correctly within Windows 8 I assume that it is in general functioning and shouldn't be broken.
I have an Aspire 5750G that started out with 1TB of disk space. Now it says I only have 100GB free of ca. 650 GB! How did 1TB turn into 650 GB?! I've been trying to use Nero Backitup 2014 to back up my drive to my NAS, and couldn't - I think the capacity shrinkage is why. (Nero tells me there isn't room on my laptop to update, even though I'm trying to update FROM the laptop to the NAS. I went through the procedure with Nero Support, and they couldn't find out why it was happening.) I've done a disk defrag, but still haven't regained the missing capacity.

Problem: My 1TB capacity (not usage) appears to have shrunk to 650 GB.
Program troubles: Nero Backitup 2014 can't deal with the missing capacity, even when I try clearing out my NAS and doing a repeat backup. The exact error message is: It is not possible to sync because the space is full at this location: (My C: drive) Check the space and try again.
Tried: Defragging, no luck.
I don't have a lot of money to replace the laptop that just completely died a month after the warranty expired. It is a Lenovo Thinkpad SL510, S/n xxxxxxx and the product ID is 28479XU. Purchased 3 years ago. I would like to know if I can take the hard drive out (which I was told by a knowledgeable computer person that it is OK with all the data on it) AND put it in my working Lenovo Thinkpad SL410, S/n xxxxxxx, Product ID 28427PU ?The SL510 is really dead. All efforts were tried to resusictate by same computer person.

Effectively, I would like to have one version of windows on the internal HDD for general day to day stuff and one as a programming environment and be able to select which to boot from at start up.
I know I could just use a VM, but some of this stuff (Siemens PCS7) can put quite a strain on the system and I'd rather not have that overhead.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIt's been about 5 months since I started to use my Thinkpad X230. Only three days ago it could work for 5-6 hours without charging. I could charge it at home, bring it to school and use it without charging. But suddenly the battery started to die in a short amount of time. Then I explored the battery settings a little bit. I found out it says "Battery Condition: poor" and "Your battery can 47% of its original full charge capacity."
It has warranty until 2015. So can Lenovo send me a new battery if I want so? Or is it a problem that warranty doesn't cover?
I have an acer aspire 7520 with a 80GB hard disc.the problem is it is split in two partitions of 40GB and I wonder if I can have it as just one drive of 80GB.I have tried programmes such as partition magic and windows disc manager but I can't seem to change anything,
