I have a ThinkPad T431 with the 500GB HDD installed.tell me what the system drive is used for? When I go into the disk management view, I see 3 partitions: 1.46GB SYSTEM_DRV, 450GB for the OS and finally the 13GB Recovery partition.

Booted into Windows Installer via USB thumb drive running YUMI Multiboot tool (Win 7 Pro is the only OS on it currently). Installer loads perfectly, go into Custom (Advanced), blew away all existing partitions and create a new one using all available space (122104MB). New partition is created, go to format, expecting it to automatically create the System Reserved partition but it doesn't. Click Next, get an errors stating, "Setup cannot create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. Check setup logs for more details."
Did some research and decided to go into DISKPART and do all of the partitioning ahead of time. Ran the following sequence:
diskpart
list disk
select disk #
clean all
create partition primary align=1024
format fs=ntfs
active
exit
exit
Closed the Windows Installer to reboot the PC and went through the same installation motions, omitting making any changes when in the Custom (Advanced) section, same error.
I recently bought a Thinkpad T540P laptop. But there is always some noise made by the hard drive. The noise makes me feel uncomfortable. It sounds like it has been used for a long time, but actually only two days.

After a installing a few updates and program I noticed strange system beaver. So I did a system file check and it came back that files was corrupt and cold not be repaired.So I did a new fresh Windows install. But it to became corrupt after just running Windows Update and Lenovo System Update.So I ran some hard drive and memory diagnostic without find and problems.
Then I did a new Windows 7 install again. After I installed all recommended updates from Windows Update I did a system file check, all OK. The I installed Lenovo System Update and all its recommended updates and did a new system file check, Windows system files corrupt. What Lenovo update is destroying the system?
I just bought a new T440s at Lenovo online. But when I started my coumpter, I found that all the storage of my hard disk is under C. I want to partition them into C , D ,F and E. I don't want to get the new system mess up.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've just bought a t540p thinkpad and started migrating to the new machine with my all stuff from the old one. Unfortunately I've encountered a problem which I cannot resolve by myself.
I've got preinstalled Windows 7 which came with 2 partitions for itself - system_partition and os_files. After them there are 2 more primary partitions: Lenovo_Recovery and hibernation partition for 30-day standby.
I really want to rearrange these volumes so I can divide the files betweend OS C: partition and D: partition for my data. The problem is that there are already 4 primary partitions at this disk which is the limit for MBR so I can't create any more.
I've tried to boot up a linux mint live usb with gparted, but the system didn't start. Probably some UEFI issues which I cannot afford to deal with now.
So my disk looks like this at the moment:
- system_drv - 1,46 GB - system, active, primary
- os - 60 GB - bootable, pagefile, primary
- unallocated - 154,25 GB (space for D: partition which I got from shrinking OS partition)
- lenovo_recovery - 15,76 GB, primary
- (no name) - 7 GB - hibernation partition, primary
So, is there any possibility to change the volume with OS partition to the extended one and create second logical partition for my D: partition? Or maybe there is a way to change hibernation partition to the extended one?
If both options above are not possible I would be grateful for specifying the steps to fully disable the 30-day standby so I can delete hibernation partition (however the 7 GB at the end of disk will be unused then because I still won't be able to attach them to C: or D: partition). I assume that simply unchecking the option in the Global Setting of Lenovo Power Manager won't be enough.
I have new T430s with Windows 8 on it (preinstalled by Lenovo). Everything is fine except they cut a huge chunk of my expensive SSD hard drive for so called "recovery partition". So now I have 2 tasks to accomplish:
1. Create recovery media on DVDs;
2. Remove that recovery partition from my HD and attach the space to main partition.
On Windows 7 I would use "Rescue and Recovery 4.5" tool from Lenovo to do that. But it looks like the tool is not available for Windows 8. When (if) it will be available? Or any other way to accomplish the above tasks?

I ordered a T430s with low specs and Windows 8 and I dropped in an 8GB DIMM and mSATA drive. However, the Lenovo implementation of Windows 8 is maddeningly difficult to create backup media (you can't) and the Lenovo "restore" from the HDD partition won't allow you to restore to another drive. Plus, that kinda defeats my original purpose of a clean install without any bloatware onto a fast, user-installed mSATA or SSD.
I have Windows upgrade media I purchased for my desktop, but that install program says the installation won't work with the Lenovo Product Key specific to my Thinkpad T430s (I'm guessing it's an OEM product key while the install media is an upgrade looking for a previously installed Windows 7?)
Today I updated two Lenovo drivers (ACPI and Sound). After the installation I was asked to restart my Laptop. The restart did not finish and the system showed the bluescreen for a short time and the it restarted with the system recovery. All attempts to repair the system with Windows recovery were not successfull. I am still not able to start my Laptop.
My system is:
Lenovo Thinkpad T530 (2429DT7)
Windows 7 (64Bit)
What can I do to rescue my system?
I installed clean install windows 8.1 (iso directly from Microsoft) and I was thinking, that Lenovo System Update will install all necessary drivers and tools for me.Even newest bios wasn't offered for install. However, on lenovo's website all drivers was available.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is a brand new T440s, i7, W7 Pro that I have had for 3 days. On the first power-up, the system date was set on "tomorrow," in other words, one day ahead. I reset the date, time, country and time zone. It is set to sync with the internet. Each morning now when I power it up, the system date is "yesterday," one day behind. I have to manually change the date each morning. How can I fix this permanently. Other than this date glitch, it's a beautiful machine.

I wanted to try system restore but it did not work properly. There are numerous system restore points created but i'm not able to revert to one of these restore points. It says Local Disk (Unknown) - The station cannot be found. (Picture in Dutch)
After i received the T440, i created a new partition on the 256GB Samsung SSD. Maybe this is the reason system restore is not working properly?
I already fixed the mbr, but this makes no difference. In the picture below, you can see the partitions. I
only reduced the size of the C: partition and created a new D: partition. The *SYSTEM_DRV, Q: Lenovo Recovery and the *: 7.00 GB partition are not changed at all.

I have previously done a system image of to T500 OS and everything. The T500 is on it's last leg. I received a T540P as a replacement but I want to migrate the T500 system Image to be restored on my T540P.
I know it's doable because I have done it BUT the problem is, I think the downloads. It seems when I go to update software after the image is done the T540P downloads. (the Lenovo PM, Graphics and Display drivers) when the reboot happens I get to the Startng Windows screen and the 4 bubbles coming together and then pulses. But it always says there. It at least, I stopped it after like a 30 minutes.
The normal LED on thinkpad lid is a red dot that appears on top of i. This dot does not light up. Am I missing some thing to make this i on the logo blink again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my Lenovo ThinkPad T400 with a Crucial M500 (240GB SATA SSD 7mm) and 8GB Kit (DDR3 PC3-8500 NON-ECC) RAM.
After a couple of days of trail and error I eventually installed (successfully, I might add) Windows 7 via USB. I leave my laptop on when I sleep, but in the morning it's shut off. When I power it on I get to the Windows did not shut down properly and I always select the "Start Windows Normally" option and additionally Google Chrome informs me that it wasn't shut down properly and restores my tabs.
Why it randomly shuts itself off... Also, when I try to run my system rating after one or two flashes of the screen my laptop turns off, so I am unable to do this as well.
I recently purchased a Thinkpad T440.
As a finance person I need to use the F1, F2, ....., F12 keys on a regular basis. My issue is that I need to always use FN+F1, FN+F2, ....., FN+F12 to work, which is not the most convenient thing to do.
Is there any way to switch these two? Going in the BIOS offers me only the opportunity to switch between Ctrl and Fn.
I'm tried hard-booting the device, but no dice. When I push the power button, I show activity in the status lights and can feel heat coming out of the heatsink. I think I see the 'ThinkPad' screen displaying very faintly at that time, but it seems not to proceed through the regular boot process. I'm definitely not able to get to a BIOS post.

Today I had my fingers crossed that maybe with the installation of currently latest version it will work (systemupdate506-11-04-2014.exe). When I have ran the installation it has warned me there are some previous versions and it will be installed, but installation didn't went thru. After manually removing System update service (sc delete SERVICENAME) and running the installation again, the installation wizard completed successfully...
But then when I run System update I receive an error "T440S - System update Cuuldn't start properly".
How to achieve that System update would work properly on T440s laptop. My operating system is 8.1 x64 enterprise.
I am having no problems with my computer.Have recently installed/upgraded to Win7 from Vista.I have tried removing from add/remove and this is the error I get when I attempt to uninstall it:Error 1316 A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:WindowsInstallerSMAsetup.msi
I've tried re-downloading it-then uninstalling it,but I keep getting this error. I do not need this program and would like to reclaim the space it is using.It is not in my start-up and I do not see a listing in the services area(services.msc).
This issue has been resolved. I thought I had re-installed it,but it was only downloaded.I installed it-then uninstalled it with no problems.
So I bought a new battery for my T430 laptop in August and it was working great. Then suddenly tonight it started giving me the error above: '' The battery installed is not supported by this system and will not charge. Please replace the battery with the correct lenovo battery for this system,''
I tried troubleshooting my uninstalling and reinstalling the Lenovo Power Manager. I also updated the BIOS. Neither of those gave me any luck. I tried getting rid of the microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery, but that keeps coming back.

I recently updated a whole bunch of things on my T520, and afterwards experienced a significant slowdown in everything -- startup time as well as just general work. There's often a long lag when opening programs or documents, right clicking, etc. Part of this seems to be due to higher CPU usage. While idling (i.e. just sitting on my desktop) and looking at Task Manager, CPU usage seems higher than normal on some things -- SynTPEnh.exe will consume 3-8% of CPU, one instance of svchost.exe will take up to 10%, etc. My total idling CPU usage is generally 15-25% now. (I have a quad-core i7.) Also, my battery life dropped precipitously; it used to be upwards of 5 hours on a full charge when just doing general web browsing and word processing, but now it's less than 2 hours.
Going around in Process Explorer and Task Manager, I've found a few things that seemed somewhat unusual: A lot of my processes have many page faults -- slightly under 15 minutes after starting up my computer, SynTPEnh.exe has about 250,000, SimpleTap.exe has over 50,000, the instance of svchost.exe with the Base Filtering Engine, Diagnostic Policy Services, and Windows Firewall has about 250,000, and Process Explorer itself has about 250,000. There were also some items that seemed like they might be taking up more memory (Private Bytes, in Process Explorer) than they should -- dwm.exe is using about 150 MB, and SimpleTap.exe is using about 115 MB. Also, my CPU percentage of Interrupts jumps around, most of the time staying between 2-5%.
just got a slice battery 42T4739 for T430. I am getting an error - The battery installed is not supported by this system and wil not charge. Please replace the battery with correct lenovo battery for this system.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am unable to enter the BIOS (or the boot device and application menu) of my T530. When I press Enter at the 'Press Enter to interrupt normal startup' prompt, nothing happens. It just ignores my input completely. F1 doesn't do anything either.
Otherwise my ThinkPad is working fine, but I would like to change some settings (especially change the boot device, to boot from USB).
I've got a ThinkPad T520 and I just bought a Netgear N600 Dual-band Cable Modem Router but my laptop isn't seeing the 5GHz wireless network? Is it even capable of doing so?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm running Win 7, and I have the most up-to-date drivers from the Lenovo site. I have turned on loudness equalization, but it has not worked. This is an across-the-board problem. What I mean by that is, this problem persists regardless of the application, which I happen to be using. For instance, I use Media Player Classic: Home Cinema to watch movies. If the volume is at 0%, as I begin adjusting it upward, the volume level rises. However, as I reach about 70%, the volume stops increasing. There are audio adjustments w/in the application to boost the volume, but they serve to provide minimal effects. Overall, the volume is incredibly low. If you're sitting more than a few feet away from the laptop, it is inaudible.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI purchased a manufacturer refurbished Lenovo Thinkpad T410 2522EC8 a few days ago. My USB ports are simply not responding to anything. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. The only sign the USB ports show is when I plug in my mouse, the mouse lights up, but it doesn't actually work. Also, when I look under disk management, the only drives that show up are System Reserved, C: Drive, and D: Drive.

My configuration is ( i5/4gb ram/hd 4600/W7 pro/500gb hdd). The thing is that I am having second thoughts about having two modules from a different manufacturer and of different capacity.
