View 1 RepliesI has just upgraded my Thinkpad t440 from windows 7 to Windows 8.1 pro. But i could not find Power Manager software to install in my laptop. I want this software to manage my battery to ensure that it stop charging when 80% capacity. I think that it is useful for my battery.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Thinkpad T440.
As a finance person I need to use the F1, F2, ....., F12 keys on a regular basis. My issue is that I need to always use FN+F1, FN+F2, ....., FN+F12 to work, which is not the most convenient thing to do.
Is there any way to switch these two? Going in the BIOS offers me only the opportunity to switch between Ctrl and Fn.
This computer originally had an issue with the 2100 Detection Error. This computer was previously built with no issues when it was imaged with our company's Windows 8 configuration in which I am highly sure our IT engineers have worked closely with Lenovo on. Also out of the tens of thousand computers that were imaged this way this is the only system I have dealt with that has this issue. I luckily had a good T440 I could test this system's SSD in. The hard drive appears to be fine with no issues. So that rules out to be the SSD. I ordered a system board under warranty and installed it. Everything so far responded fine with the system board replacement until I performed the model type/serial number and UUID update using my 1.86 maintenance update USB thumb drive. After that completed the computer froze on the Thinkpad Logo screen. I verified again for my piece of mind that the memory module and SSD was fine. Sure enough those components were tested fine in a known working T440. So I submitted the system board as a DOA with an explanation. I received another system board to replace with the DOA. I installed that system board to once again update the Model Type/Serial Number and UUID using my USB maintenance disk 1.86 thumbdrive to once again end up with a locked computer at the Thinkpad Logo screen. I have replaced a couple of other T440 and T540 system boards during this time also with using the same USB maintenance disk thumbdrive used for updating those system's model type/serial number and UUID. So I know the issue is not with the USB thumb drive. I am very frustrated with this system. I hate to keep submitting DOAs for the same system.
Since the BIOS is part of the system board and I have not had these issues with the many T440 system boards I have replaced successfully that performing a BIOS update is not a good excuse why this doesn't work on this particular T440 and since after replacing a system board under "DOA" and updating with the maintenance disk and froze there is not a way I can run a BIOs update on this system now right?
I use a T440 with WIN8.1 pro machine but for whatever reason the external battery has stopped charging. As this laptop is only 3 months old Lenovo send me a brand new one but the outcome was the same, the charge symbol comes up on my screen when rebooting the machine and shortly after stops completely. I have now had my internal battery pack changed and again no improvement.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using T440. I just upgrade the operating system from windows 7 to windows 8 using recovery disk. I upgrade according to the manual paper in the box.
The issue is, the windows 8 is installed in my HDD with capacity 500GB and the SSD 16GB are not detected. My question is, it should be installed in my 500GB HDD or the SSD drive? What are the correct steps to do recovery if I 500GB HDD and SSD drive?
I have a T440p with a Windows 7 professional 64 bit. I got the same problem: camera light is on, but I can't see any preview but only a crossed camera on a grey background.
Since my operating system is Windows 7, I don't have a "setting app" in my laptop.
Something strange happened on my T440s today when I first turned it on...it booted to windows, then I entered my windows login pin, and then the screen went blank/dark instead of going to the windows 8 tiles. so I closed the lid, and it went to hibernate. and when I opened the lid again the screen came back on and it worked fine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI use a T440 with Windows 8. External battery not charging. Always 0%. The internal battery is charged to 80%, external battery will not charge. If I disconnect the external battery, the internal charging to 100%. Did fully discharge, it is still only charged internal battery.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just opened my laptop today, and when I used F1 to unmute, it 'clicked' a sort of odd, plasticky click. I hit it again a few times, and it always clicked. So I took the key off to check. I didn't see anything wrong, no broken plastic. After taking it off and putting it back on a few times, it now only clicks when I apply pressure in the top left area of the key.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow to enable VT-x on T440s? I tried to enable Security -> Vritualization setting in the BIOS menu. After a cold restart, the virtualization setting stays the same Enabled state, but the Win8.1 doesn't seem to recognized it and CPU-Z shows no VT-x like the image below. The BIOS is the latest, update yesterday.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got my new laptop today - but I can't open it to turn it on. My old T61 has a little latch on one side you just flicked and it opened right up. This has two silver things on the front, but I've tried everything and I can't get it to open. I've pressed one, both at the same time, pressed hard, pressed lightly. Been trying to open for over 20 minutes now but it won't budge.
Will I have to send it back solely because I can't open it?
since the start, the scroll option will sometimes work, and sometimes not... i've written to lenovo (On site warranty) and they switched out my motherboard + touchpad. That didnt work either, sometimes it works fine, but sometimes it just wont react at all?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just bougth the T440 and I have two main problems related to sleep mode, which both seems to happend randomly. The most common problem is that when I close the lid (the action suppose to activate sleep mode), the computer seems to freeze during the time it is going to sleep : The red light is still on as when the computer is in 'normal mode', but there is no display and the keyboard seems unresponsive. I have no choice but to restart the computer.
Sometimes the computer seems to enter in sleep mode correctly (the red light slowly goes on and off, which according to the manual indicates that the computer is in sleep mode), but when I open the lid, the screen remains black and I can see nothing but the mouse. I have no choice but to restart the computer.
It also happened once that the above problem (the second one) kept occuring even after multiple restart of the computer. The only way I could solve it was by using 'windows safe mode'. As the problems occur randomly, I am unable to say if they were already there when I received the computer, or if they started to happen after the few windows updates/software installation I did.
We currently purchased some T440 20B6-005BUS for our users and are applying our Windows 7 SP1 x64 Enterprise image to them through SCCM (and yes, ExpressCache gets installed). After imaging the first couple we noticed that at idle these laptops sit at 2-2.5GB RAM usage (4GB total in these machines). Thinking it may be something wrong with our image, I created a new gold image and applied it. However, the RAM usage is still very high.
To verify that it wasn't our image I started up another couple T440 out of the box with the Lenovo default image, and sure enough, it's also using 2-2.5GB at idle. It seems that some service(s) in svchost are using the most at idle (around 100-200MB).
I plan on installing Windows 8.1 Enterprise (fresh ISO) just to see if the T440 is just poorly configured for Windows 7, but I don't really expect Windows 8.1 to facilitate much. the T440 (especially 20B6-005BUS).
How to automatically enable CSM Support on ThinkPad models (preferably T440s) during OS deployment? CSM Support is required in order to install Windows 7 on UEFI enabled machines and is desired within my organization in order to be prepared for a migration to newer Windows OS:s later on in the future.
I've been reading through the documentation (sb_deploy.pdf) and the supplied samples found in the link below, but I'm unable to identify the correct setting.

I have a wonderful new T440 here and am wishing to load Windows 7 x64 from a bootable usb memory stick, which I've always used and works fine on other computers (tested again this morning).
However when I try to boot my T440 from this drive, I can bring up the temporary boot menu and see the usb drive in the list, but when I select it (press enter) the screen just flashes and comes back to the temporary boot menu. IT will not accept my memory stick!
I tried with another stick with Win7 on , but got the same problem.
Interestingly I also have a X240 here and this behaves exactly the same. So I don't think it is the USB Drive and its not the T440. What can I do.
Just out of interest I was able to boot from a Windows 8 prepared USB drive... which is great but I don't want to load win8, I need to load win7.
I have recieved at work a lenovo t440 notebook, everything worked fine, untill one day I noticed that I cannot conect to the internet via lan cable. I plug in the cable and it is not detected. I checked the cable to another notebook and it was working. I have a Intel Ethernet Connection I218-LM controller, I have re-installed both network drivers from lenovo and intel websites and nothing works. I've tried as well to get automatically from windows update, no result. Went to bios cheked if the lan connection is enabled, everything was in place. Is there anything I missed? I noticed a weird behaviour, if I connect through wireless network, after sometime the lan connection is established and I can use it, but without wireless connection it doesn't work.

I've seen a few threads about this but not 100% if there's been a resolution...
running 8.1 windows
I have a T440, and I've set in BIOS to swap places for fn and ctrl. This works great until the machine goes to sleep or similar. After awakening the machine the keys are back to their original setting, with fn being fn, and ctrl being ctrl.
I havent explored this in detail but just found the machine sporadically losing the setting, but never while I'm working on it. So either from sleep or from locked screen.
I always use FnLk as well and that is also lost when this happens. I have to restart to get back the setting for fn-ctrl swap, but FnLk i can just enable,
I run Windows 8.1 on my T440.
Got a new T440 yesterday. Good machine, only a small issue with the Windows 7 System Restore feature that i'm not able to fix:
I wanted to try system restore but it did not work properly. There are numerous system restore points created but i'm not able to revert to one of these restore points. It says Local Disk (Unknown) - The station cannot be found. (Picture in Dutch)
After i received the T440, i created a new partition on the 256GB Samsung SSD. Maybe this is the reason system restore is not working properly?
I already fixed the mbr, but this makes no difference. In the picture below, you can see the partitions. I
only reduced the size of the C: partition and created a new D: partition. The *SYSTEM_DRV, Q: Lenovo Recovery and the *: 7.00 GB partition are not changed at all.
System specs:
Windows 7 SP1 x64
i7-4600U
256GB Samsung SSD
8,00GB Ram
On my T410 i was able to save my username and password to my network so that loggin in was super quick.
Sit, swipe, and surf.
Now on my t440s the finger print reader software only allows you to save your password. So i have to:
1. ctrl-alt-delete
2. type my user name
3. swipe (it would be just as fast to type from there)..
I was just reading the Lenovo Competitive Side-by-Side sheets and for the T440/T440s/T440p, it says this for docking: "Yes (No Mechanical Docking with Discrete)"
I take this to mean that if a PC is equipped with discrete graphics will not be able to dock using the mechanical (driverless) docks. Why would that be?! Why is there a dock with a 170W adapter, which would be to power discrete graphics, if it can't dock?

How I assume the switch between headphones and speakers should work: I turn on music or anything esle and if no headphones are plugged in, every sound comes from the internal speakers. Now if I plug in headphones then the sound comes exclusively from the headphones. If I pull then out again the sound comes from the speakers and so on.
In my case the situation is the following: If I have no headphones plugged in and turn on music, then I hear if via speakers. If I decide to continue listening to that music via headphones and plug them in, then the music continues to come from the speakers, but for example the notification sound from outlook comes from the headphones. This works vice versa.
If I open, say youtube to watch a video, while having the headphones plugged in, I will hear the sound via them. If I now unplugg them, the speakers will stay silent.
What can I do that if there are no external speakers plugged in (headphones etc.) every sound will be played by the internal speakers, if I plug in some sort of external speaker it comes from them and if I unplugg it it switches back to the internal speakers?
I have a new T440 running win 7 pro 64bit. The audio is not working.
When I first boot, the sound icon in the task bar shows that the system is muted, but the mute button (f1) is not lit.
-If I press the mute button the light goes on and the indicator on the task bar shows the system is no longer muted.
-If I have sound playing, when I toggle from the light on and the tray indicating not in mute to the ligt off and the tray indicating the system is in mute, I get a split second sound.
I have installed the realtek device drivers
I have installed the lenovo system update and all of the critical and reccomended updates.
The device manager indicates that everything is working properly.
I'm running Win 7, and I have the most up-to-date drivers from the Lenovo site. I have turned on loudness equalization, but it has not worked. This is an across-the-board problem. What I mean by that is, this problem persists regardless of the application, which I happen to be using. For instance, I use Media Player Classic: Home Cinema to watch movies. If the volume is at 0%, as I begin adjusting it upward, the volume level rises. However, as I reach about 70%, the volume stops increasing. There are audio adjustments w/in the application to boost the volume, but they serve to provide minimal effects. Overall, the volume is incredibly low. If you're sitting more than a few feet away from the laptop, it is inaudible.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a Thinkpad 540p and wanted to know a way for stopping the battery from getting charged after a certain level. Its a very common feature to stop a battery from charging say after 80% and run on AC power supply directly.
Other lenovo laptops do support it, under various apps like Energy Manager, or Power Manager but I am not able to find any such options/app on my laptop?
I bought a T510 few days ago and was surprised to see this machine has ridiculously low volume. I have tried everything including the tweaks in Smart audio and removing audio limiter but still the volume is very low. On my dell 1525, I never go past 40% volume on my headphones but on T51o, I am using 90-100% volume to watch videos on live streaming websites.
Is there any solution to boost the volume on T510? My system is with windows 7 ultimate (64-bit) and audio device is Conexant 20585.
I was looking for the software to disable the touchpad. I saw a video that had the option but it was windows 8 and I have been unable to find the same options for 7. The thinkpad tab in the screen shot is not showing up in 7.

I have purchased a Lenovo Thinkpad T430. This laptop came with pre-installed Windows 7 Pro. However I want to use Windows 8 which I have a recovery disc for.
I built in a SSD instead of the optical drive. So I don´t have a optical drive. On this SSD I want to run my OS.
With a software from Samsung (manufacturer of my SSD) I was able to copy the Windows7 OS on my SSD.
As I mentioned above I bought a laptop with installed windows 7 pro and a Windows 8 upgrade disc. Therefore I got the "Operating System Recovery Dis Windows 8 Pro. (OEM Activation 3.0 Required)".
The problem now is that I have an upgrade disc but no optical drive. So I created an image of the upgrade disc and with this image I have created a bootable USB stick with the following program:
[URL] ....
When I boot my laptop using the bootable USB stick everything seems to be working until to the point where I have to accept the EULA.
So I chose a language, and clicked on "I accept the agreements".
When I want to click on "next" I got a error message "recovery failed".
Please have a look on the following picture taken with my smartphone. The language used in this picture is german as i live in Austria.

How I can upgrade to Windows 8? Why the upgrade disc is not working?
