Lenovo T400 / T500 :: ThinkPad T410 USB Ports Not Working
Dec 1, 2013
I purchased a manufacturer refurbished Lenovo Thinkpad T410 2522EC8 a few days ago. My USB ports are simply not responding to anything. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. The only sign the USB ports show is when I plug in my mouse, the mouse lights up, but it doesn't actually work. Also, when I look under disk management, the only drives that show up are System Reserved, C: Drive, and D: Drive.

My thinkpad T410 (2537-UQF) with an OCZ Vertex 3 SSD only boots if the power supply is plugged in. If i have full battery and try to boot without the power supply i get a blue screen after being about 60 seconds in the screen where the windows logo appears. I have Windows 7 installed fresh a few days ago.
I think its possible, that i have made some failure with the drivers. The ThinkPad Power Managers always stops working after booting. So i have removed the program by using the "msconfig" functionality.

I have a Thinkpad T410 model 2518. I think it may be having fan issues. From time to time the machine will just shut off. It has a brand new battery so I know that’s not the issue. While it often runs in the 60’s for temp for CPU and Motherboard it sometimes gets up to 81 – 91 for the CPU and 81 – 83 for the motherboard. What the normal temp range is for this computer? Would 81 and above be considered a hot temp that could lead to these computer shut downs ....

I connect my T410 to an ethernet connection, open up Access Connections, and try to get the Mobile Hotspot feature working. When I click on "Start", the button just turns to "Starting..." and hangs there forever.

I received a T410 and worked two days on it. From one office I moved to another location and worked for some hours. After lunch I started the machine again, but neither touchpad nor keyboard is working. If I connect a pointer via USB on the machine the pointer is working, keyboard unfortunately not.
Ok. Admins installed it new. I worked one day, next morning same issue. Well, back to admins, reinstallation completed. Again for two days I could work without any problem. So as it happened the third time admins decided to provide me a new hardware: I received a T420. I have been working with this one week without any error.
I took the notebook home. I had been working with it for one hour. I used a USB-to-bluetooth wireless pointer. No problems so far.
I got back in the office this morning an guess what?!?!?! Same problem as for the T410: Windows is starting up but touchpad and kayboard is not working at all!
What did I? In my opinion nothing special:
1) Started up machine
2) Added pointer
3) Connected via WLAN to network at home (settings for Home-Network applying)
4) Packed the notebook into my suitcase and took the flight.
5) Back at the office connected via LAN to network, connected via VGA to monitor, added usb-keyboard, added pointer.
What can this be? I mean I'm able to destroy to different machines! Only common is Windows 7 and T4xx series...

I have a wireless mouse and printer plugged into the USB ports of my docking station and generally have no issues with them functioning. However, when I take my laptop off the docking station and then return it to the docking station, the laptop no longer recognizes the keyboard and also says that the printer is not connected. Once I restart they both work. I have also tried to unplug the wireless receiver for my keyboard from the docking station and plug into the laptop, but it still does not work without reboot.

I have a T430s computer model 2352CTO, running Windows 8.1, 64-bit version. Prior to upgrade from Windows 8.0 all drivers were updated. The USB 3 ports worked correctly, in particular running an external 1gb hard drive. After update to 8.1, the USB 3 ports still work, but only for about 30 seconds then the hard drive shuts down. The power light is still lit on the hard drive, but it no longer shows in windows explorer.
In device manager, I went to Universal Serial Bus Controllers -> USB Root Hub ->Properties->(under General it says "This device is working properly)->Power Management->Unchecked the box for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". Unfortunately this does not seem to stop problem.

So I've replaced my fair share of T61 CPU fans due to them dying out, locking up and giving a fan error upon boot.
Now I'm starting to see a rash of CPU fan failures with brand new T410 units.

I've cloned my HDD to a new SSD, but it will not boot. It goes into a Lenovo Think Bios splash screen / Black screen loop. I booted off a repair disk and performed a repair, but it is still doing the bios loop thing. This has happened with both an OCZ and a Kingston SSD.

I have a T410 with Win7 (x64) at work and the following problem: It does not shutdown anymore. More precise: Windows shuts down, than the Screen turns black, but the fan is still working...so the notebook is still turned on. To start it again, I first have to push the power button for a few seconds (so it really shuts down), than I can start it.
I used the Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools to update everything, cleaned the Registry...

My T410 with i5 520M and integrated graphics idles at about 70C when just browsing facebook. When I power up a program like photoshop or play a low intensity game like starcraft 1, my cpu spikes to about 100C. I have cleaned the fan many times, but I can't get the temperatures to go down. I'm out of warranty too ..... What should I do to make my computer actually usable? Btw these temperatures are measured from when I run TPfancontrol on disengaged at all times.
I checked the load, and the CPU indeed idles at 70C when at 0% - 1% load. I also get god awful 1.5 hour battery life on a 9 cell battery.

Running on Windows 7. I've read similar problems that others have posted, which is the monitor goes black during bootup. My machine boots fine, but every few minutes the monitor goes black / dies - no backlight.
This lasts a minute or so, then the display go back to normal. Then it goes black again. Then it goes back to normal. It's not sleeping, the HDD keeps on spinning.
I've checked the graphics driver - no update available. I reinstalled it anyway. The built in lenovo utility -thinkvantage- is of no support.
At this stage I'm wondering about the integrity of the motherboard.

I replaced the hard drive on my T410 2516-CTO with an SSD and booted the system with the recovery disc created from the original hard drive/OS. Neither the Recovery/Rapid Restore disc or the Product Recovery discs (1-7) are booting. The Recovery/Rapid Restore discs produce blue screen and the Product Recovery discs appear not to have a bootable operating system.
I am unable to create new recovery media from my old hard drive because I used it to create the defunct recovery media.
How to get the Win7 (64-bit) operating system and recovery partition installed on the new hard drive.

Have been trying to upgrade my T410 running Win7 SP1 64bit from 2x2GB to 2x4GB RAM (KVR13S9S8/4, Kingston ValueRAM 4GB SO-DIMM, 204Pin, DDR3-1333MHz, 4GB, DDR-1333 (PC3-10600), CL9, 204-Pin) but Windows doesn't start with this memory.
The weird thing is that the PC boots and i can enter the BIOS and can see the 8GB installed, but Windows 7 hangs at the startup screen and never comes up. I first thought of defect in RAM and have requested replacement from vendor, but same issue with new RAM modules.

On my T410 , at the front RHS of the keyboard, there's the group of Left, Up, Right and Down keys.
Each side of the Up key are two keys wih sort of browser page icons on them which I find extremely annoying because it's so easy to touch them by mistake while typing and have the browser (FF 30.0) abandon the current page and go somehere else.
After googling around this problem, I've downloaded and installed the TpKMapAp utility. However, on the KeySensitivity tab, the checkbox "Enable Browser Keys", which I assume refers to these two keys (seems to be confirmed by the results of the test on that tab), is not checked.
So, why do these two buttons still work and what else can I do to prevent them?
Fwiw, I made a registry change google found me to disable the Windows key two left from the space bar, which I found as annoying as these two browser keys. Is there a similar one for them?
And finally, a question for the TP designers: Why don't you provide a simple way to turn keys like these ones off, rather than relying on undocumented registry hacks and utilities that don't come supplied with the machine and, in the case of the browser keys, don't work anyway.

I am new to having a thinkpad and I know that my system has a the intigrated graphics and the discrete nvidia nvs 3100m Optimus card. Here is the issue though. I have been trying to run some programs that are more video oriented (gaming). I discovered that my system is only reading the intigrated graphics and doesn't even acknowledge that the nvidia card is there.
I have updated to the latest drivers and checked the Bios to make sure things are there. Sadly they are not. I looked at the bios, followed the directions I found on the forum to set that to card to on only to find that the the only card it recognizes is the intigrated graphics. So the question is, how do I get the bios and the computer in general to recognize the nvidia card on my T410 (2522)?

I got my thinkpad T530 last week. I tested the skype after opening the box and it works. Then I took off the original 320G HDD and put my 830 SSD on it, reinstalled the win8.Just last night when I tried to chat with my parents on skype i found out the the camera is dead. I tried by doing so:
1) according to others threads I uninstall most of the unnecessary drivers;
2) reinstall the camera driver;
3) deleted the ricoh media driver;
4) updated the BIOS;
5) tired to locate someone mentioned, the "privacy" problem. But the video/camera option is not even showing up by Fn+F6;
6) downloaded and installed the thirdparty AMCAM and it says no camera device can be found.

I upgraded my T410 with an Intel 520 240GB drive. It works fine but I cannot set the hard drive password. Whenever I go into BIOS and want to set the password, it would require me to enter it, then will work for some time (about 20 seconds) and say the operation was successful. However the option remains "DISABLED".
I found this thread which talks about the same problem with a W500. The only hint it gives is to put the hard drive in compatibility mode and retry it. I did that but it did not work. There is also a link to the Intel forum where this problem is discussed but the link is broken/the forum is down.

I have a problem with my microphone mute button on my T410. It does not mute the microphone when pressed. I verified this by opening the Sound settings in Control Panel and the fact that the amber light doesn't come on to indicate it is muted. When I mute the microphone through the Control Panel Sound option, the light does not come on either.
This started happening after a reinstall of Windows. I made sure to install all the software and driver updates using the Lenovo Driver and Software update tool. I also individually downloaded and installed the Conexant drivers, too.

I recently bought a reconditioned Lenovo T410 and have to perform certain actions to get myself set up. One of these was to create factory recovery discs using Rescue and Recovery.
As this wasn't already installed on the machine, I have downloaded it (tvtvrnr4.52_005en.exe) but it won't install. I am getting the message 'Error 25014 There was an error installing the Rescue and Recovery boot manager. Return code: 6'. How to resolve it or an alternative way or creating recovery discs?

I have purchased a Lenovo Thinkpad T430. This laptop came with pre-installed Windows 7 Pro. However I want to use Windows 8 which I have a recovery disc for.
I built in a SSD instead of the optical drive. So I don´t have a optical drive. On this SSD I want to run my OS.
With a software from Samsung (manufacturer of my SSD) I was able to copy the Windows7 OS on my SSD.
As I mentioned above I bought a laptop with installed windows 7 pro and a Windows 8 upgrade disc. Therefore I got the "Operating System Recovery Dis Windows 8 Pro. (OEM Activation 3.0 Required)".
The problem now is that I have an upgrade disc but no optical drive. So I created an image of the upgrade disc and with this image I have created a bootable USB stick with the following program:
[URL] ....
When I boot my laptop using the bootable USB stick everything seems to be working until to the point where I have to accept the EULA.
So I chose a language, and clicked on "I accept the agreements".
When I want to click on "next" I got a error message "recovery failed".
Please have a look on the following picture taken with my smartphone. The language used in this picture is german as i live in Austria.
Link to image
How I can upgrade to Windows 8? Why the upgrade disc is not working?

I installed the most recent ThinkVantage Password Manager software yesterday through the Lenovo Solution Software. It is version 4.70.20. Today, when I booted my computer, my fingerprint reader is no longer working (it worked yesterday before the installation and all day yesterday after the installation). I cannot find a fingerprint reader in Device Manager, but there is one "Unknown USB Device (device Descriptor Request Failed)" which is listed as not working in device manager.
I feel like the software update killed the fingerprint driver as it is no longer available in any application (windows logon, website logon, etc.).
I've installed no other software recently and have uninstalled and reinstalled both the ThinkVantage Password Manager and Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro (version 8.01.26(x64) today to try to resolve the issue.
