Lenovo T400 / T500 :: T430 Battery Installed Is Not Supported By This System And Will Not Charge

Dec 22, 2014

So I bought a new battery for my T430 laptop in August and it was working great.  Then suddenly tonight it started giving me the error above:  '' The battery installed is not supported by this system and will not charge. Please replace the battery with the correct lenovo battery for this system,''

I tried troubleshooting my uninstalling and reinstalling the Lenovo Power Manager.  I also updated the BIOS.  Neither of those gave me any luck.  I tried getting rid of the microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery, but that keeps coming back.

Lenovo B5400 B / G Series :: Battery Installed Is Not Supported By System And Will Not Charge

May 16, 2014

I have with my Lenovo B5400 is related to the battery. For about two months, on start up I get a loud beep and a message that says "The battery installed is not supported by this system and will not charge. Please replace the battery with the correct Lenovo battery for this system." It's impossible for the battery not to be genuine because I purchased it together with the laptop, so it's all original and stuff. Of course, the toolbar icon for the battery says "plugged in, not charging", so my battery is currently stuck at 88%, although it's not going down. Recently made a BIOS update, but nothing changed ...

Lenovo 11e E/Edge :: E540 - Battery Installed Is Not Supported By This System And Will Not Charge

Dec 10, 2014

Today I received my brand-new E540 from Amazon. Upon inserting the battery and starting the laptop for the very first time, I was greeted by the following error message:

The battery installed is not supported by this system and will not charge.
Please replace the battery with the correct Lenovo battery for this system.
Press the ESC key to continue.

 The message has only appeared once and hasn't been shown on subsequent reboots.

I proceeded to install Windows 7 which worked fine. Under Windows the battery symbol in the taskbar would say "66%. Plugged in. Not charging". I then shutdown the system and re-inserted the battery. Since then the battery appears to be charging normally and when I inspect the battery symbol in Windows it says something like "89% charged. Plugged in. Charging."

Seeing how this is a brand-new laptop, do you think the battery is broken and I should return the laptop, or should I keep it since it seems to be working normally now.

Lenovo X230 X Series ThinkPad :: Battery Installed Is Not Supported And Will Not Charge?

Apr 15, 2014

I bought a genuine x220/x230 battery. After I power on the laptop, I got a message: the laptop doesn't support this battery. I tried to update the bios but nothing happend. The power manager said the battery voltage, performance, cycles, LGC battery. If I unplugged the laptop, it is works so the laptop can use the battery just not charge. If it was not a genuine battery I can't see these description or I should also?

Maybe this is not compatible with my x230 because it compatible just x220 and the seller didn't know it?

Lenovo T400 / T500 :: ThinkPad T430 Battery Dying Fast

Feb 8, 2013

I've owned a ThinkPad T430 for about one year now. Originally I was fairly impressed with the battery life (around 4.5 hours) but now after owning it for a year I am very unimpressed with it's short 3 hour life now.

I have read that batteries should be expected to do this, although I have friends with a MacBook Pro which has lost maybe 20% of it's charge over three years not one year like my ThinkPad!

My specs are listed below:

OS: Windows 8 (upgraded from 7)
Ram: 8GB (4*2 DIMM - came with 4GB and I upgrade it with 4 more)
CPU: i5-3210M 2.5GHZ
Hard Drive: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD (upgraded from the 320GB 7200RPM HDD before...if I have got those specs right)

I recently installed the new SSD and expected to see my battery life shoot up again (hopefully at least half an hour) but I really haven't noticed any such improvement.

I use the battery frequently for school and run the battery down to about 20% maybe twice a week on school weeks?

Is this kind of deterioration to be expected and should I simply purchase a new battery if I need that extra 1.5 hours?

According to the Windows 8 battery report the original full charge capacity was: 49,286 mWh, now it is: 39,780 mWh.

Lenovo T400 / T500 :: HDD Failure Indicated On T430

Nov 26, 2012

I'm an owner of T430. I have toshiba hitachi 500gb and mini ssd 16gb running windows 7

Right now as I was working on an assignment i got a Microsoft Warning that my Hard drive was failing and that i have to run a back up (which I am doing right now)

Never had this problem and I've been using computer for awhile now and it's my first time seeing the warning window. Is there a way to see if this is a "real" problem? is it caused by viruses? and is it covered by my warranty?

I just ran lenovo solution center hard ware scan and passed everything except my mini ssd. with a code WHD00D001-UI4W8F.

So it seems like my hard drive is working fine, I had some problems with hardware scan failing my mini ssd before.

Lenovo T400 / T500 :: T430 Heating While In Sleeping?

Sep 17, 2013

bought my T430 this week.

after installing every software i will need on my notebook, i closed it (sleeping) and put it in my backpack. i only needed it again after 2 days. when i touched the bag it was already hot in the outside, i opened it, and my Lenovo was burning... i turned my computer on, the battery went down to 13% from 100% (2 days ago), as it was sleeping, i would have suggested it uses roughly 10-15% in 2 days.

my questions are:
1. is the heating thing normal while sleeping? what could have caused the problem?
2. is it possible that some parts of the computer got damaged in such a hot atmosphere? (note that i kept it in a closed bag)

possible solution to question 1: i ran a command prompts, typed in the code that tells me what is allowed to wake my computer. noticed the external Logitec mouse and that Intel giganet networks were allowed, so i disabled both. it was probably the mouse as it was in the same bag, i guess it was moving in the bag and waking the computer?

I have imaged the M4 to an HDD and find that the C: partition is 12% defragmented and the recovery partition Q: is 99% defragmented. I have a Lenovo T430s laptop running Windows 7 Professional. Should I defrag both partitions before installing the new SSD, or not bother? Also the Q partition had only 2GB free on the M4. Should I increase this when I change to the M500?

I recently uninstalled, and then reinstalled, the lenovo driver for power management in windows 8 64, because I was having the same problem with putting the computer into sleep mode via Fn+F4 (I think by reinstalling the driver, it fixed the sleep mode problem but screwed up my "toggle wireless" ability via keyboard). I go into the app store, start installing 8.1, it downloads, starts installing, and fails just after that point -- at 54% -- with the error message 0x80070002. That apparently means "File not found", but the Windows Update logs don't point to which file is not found, only giving:

WARNING: CSerializationHelper:: InitSerialize failed : 0x80070002

Going into Event Viewer gives the equally cryptic "English ESD Bundle Parent" as a possible cause for the failure.

SFC and chkdsk do not report anything out of the ordinary.

I know the Intel 4000 video can only handle dual video, but is there any way have both those streams on external monitors.  I have one that is extended and I would like to use another port to simply passthrough the interal display signal.  I am using the series 3 miniport plus which has two digital/dvi ports and a vga out.  In connecting to the second digital or the vga I get no signal.  Likewise with the side VGA on the PC.  I wouldn't even mind if the laptop display stayed lit as long as I could see it duplicated on a real monitor AND KEEP MY EXTENDED DESKTOP on another extenal monitor.

Seems like an obvious feature for a docking station.

Lenovo T400 / T500 :: T430 - Connecting To TV With VGA Or Display Port

Sep 17, 2013

I have a brand new  TV with USB, RS232, HDMI connections and of course with a screen in16:9 aspect ratio.  I want to use my existing RS232 cable to connect my T430 to the TV and display videos/movies that I want to view with others.  HOWEVER, the video output always gets a black bar top and bottom from the T430 when the TV is connected.  As a result, the image is stretched side-to-side both on the TV and on the T430 simultaneously showing the video.  It is ugly.  If I watch a movie in the very wide movie format 2.35:1, the bars are of course even larger and the movie is simply unwatchable it's so thin, top-to-bottom.

This is true regardless of the video source on the T430, either a movie via VLC or MediaPlayer off the hard drive, or streaming.

Two odd things:  it does not happen if I play a movie on the TV directly from a USB key - it has a USB port and that works just fine.  Also, if I simply unplug the RS232 from the TV then everything gets restored and the image on the T430 is perfect without any bars top and bottom.

In summary, a 16:9 video source connected to a 16:9 TV via RS232 is given black bars top and bottom, and there is no control on the TV that can correct this (TV has two settings for RS232 display, 4:3 and 16:9.  4:3 actually displays the 16:9 ratio correctly, but with a large black frame around it.  And 16:9, the "auto" setting, gives the problem above).

So I have two questions:

1.  Is there a setting on the T430 that I can adjust to resolve this issue so that the black bars are suppressed for 16:9 video replay?

2.  If I switch to using the more expensive T430 minidisplay output (via an HDMI adapter) and connect that way, is it likely to fix this issue?  I don't want to go to the expense of the adapter and HDMI cable if it will give essentially the same result.

This only applies to videos.  That is, when I close down the video, the 16:9 desktop that shows on the TV is identical to that on the T430 and aspect ratio is not squished on either display.

So it's something to do with how the machine sends out the video streams via RS232 that's screwed up somehow.

Lenovo T430 T400 / T500 :: Fan Always Above 3800rpm (noisy) With Psu Connected

Aug 5, 2013

After using for about 12 months my Lenovo T430 2349-GRS without problems, the fan started working loudly all the time I have turned on the PC (all working day from Monday to Friday, T430 connected to the powersupply/charger).

I used the tool HWINFO64 to monitor the temperature and fan speed and realized that the motherboard temperature is working continuously all day above 65°C, and the fan speed is above 3800rpm, so it becomes very noisy.

Then I realized that if I unplug the power supply from the T430, in a few seconds the noise goes, and the computer become silent again.

Below is the image with HWINFO64 log results, in green you will see the T430 with the power supply UNPLUGGED, and in yellow when I connected the power supply.

In the last column of the image, you will see the fan speed in RPMs.

Is there any way to solve this? The fan is very noise above 3800rpm.

Lenovo T430 T400 / T500 :: Audio Over Display Port?

Feb 3, 2014

 I wanted to go today and get an adapter for my Lenovo Thinkpad T430 and first I thought I should do some research. This is how I found out that most of the Thinkpads do not send audio over DP, as I would have expected.

 I have the T430 (no discrete graphics, just the integrated one) and Mini Dock Series 3 with USB 3.0 (EU1) docking station. The laptop has mini-DP and the docking has a normal DP. The normal DP works fine  with my monitor, but it doesn't have any speakers in it , so can't test the audio part.

 I checked in Audio properties in Windows (7 x64) and I don't see the video card there, so I am assuming it is not supported. I don't want to buy adapters if the laptop is unable to send audio over a DP-> HDMI adapter.

Lenovo T400 / T500 :: T420 - Maximum Supported Memory Size?

Nov 10, 2011

I consider buying a new notebook and T420 is a hot candidate for me. I'm not sure yet whether I would go for a Core i5 or i7 processor, however I'm sure I'd like to upgrade the RAM in the future and 16 GB . I found out in the Intel specifications that (not only) the i5 2540 and i7 2640 that are available in the T420 configurations support up to 16 GB RAM, however in the T420 specifications concerning those processors I found that only 8 GB of RAM are supported. AFAIK the memory controller is integrated in the processor in these cases, so is there another factor that limits the size to 8 GB, or is it only an improper information in the T420 specs?
