Dec 3, 2013Yesterday my fingerprint reader worked correctly, but today I turned on my computer and I could not log in using my fingerprint reader. Then I looked to device manager and there was an unkown device. So I tried to reinstall fingerprint drivers but even though it still does not work and in device manager is "unknown device". How to make it work? I tried to install this driver: [URL] ..... I use Win7 64bit.

Sep 16, 2013I have a problem with my dvd-rom. Whenever Im on battery, dvd-rom automatically turns itself off and I'm not able to turn it on again, clicking "power on" doesn't have any affect, and there is no setting in power manager that is related to this.I tried to reinstall microsoft drivers for dvd device,I tried to update PM and PM driver, but it didn't work. When I remove it in device manager and reboot system then it is ok, but this solution lasts until next boot.

Nov 13, 2013I have a brand new Edge E531 that I have upgraded to Win 8.1. I am trying desperately to learn to use the TouchPad, and by tweaking the various settings I am able to get it to work ok.
Except for one thing: sometimes, it seems that the TouchPad will automatically perform the default action in a dialog box or click a button automatically.
I have gone through all the settings and see nothing related to this.
Is this known behavior? Can it be prevented?, I know I can disable the TouchPad and only use TrackPoint, but since Lenovo no longer has separate right and left mouse buttons, I find it hard to use.
Lenovo 11e E/Edge :: Battery Critical Error On E531
Sep 5, 2013I have a Lenovo E531 and Upon turning the Laptop on after having it unplugged for a short period of time, it will turn on to a screen that says..."Battery Critical" or something to that effect, telling me it can't boot and to plug the machine in. So I turn off the laptop, pull the battery out, plug the battery back in and then turn it on and it boots just fine.

Dec 11, 2013So i bought a new refurb e531 i7 3632qm 4rb ram 500gb 7200rpm drive. Machine runs awesome however As soon as i turned it on i noticed it gave a battery not geunine message from the bios had to push esc to continue.
Ignored it figured maybe it would learn the battery or something.
Anyhow its been a good 10 hours now still give me the message as well as i noticed its not charging when plugged in. In an attempt to fix this i have.
updated bios. Uninstalled and reinstalled newest power management software and driver's shutdown system unplugged power cord pulled battery and waited 30seconds and reinsterted battery then charger.
Im so far not impressed with this geunine battery firmware built into the system cant even detect their own battery !!

Jun 20, 2014When my E531 is connected to Onelink Dock Pro and the lid is closed, at least 50% of times it won't boot up. When I open the lid, either there is a boot screen or the screen is blank. Usually when I hold the power button for a few seconds and then try again, computer boots normally. For me it seems this is some kind of a BIOS issue because Windows is not booted yet. Sometimes the problem occurs when the lid is open too. Without the dock the computer functions properly.
At first i had a BIOS version 1.23 (which I didn't found on the internet btw) and then tried to fix a problem by downgrading to 1.22. I also changed several BIOS options reagarding the booting process. I have the computer on a shelf where the lid cannot be opened.

I'm talking about when laptop is turned off and you're charging.. When its powered on and you're charging then obviously you can see the percentage. Can I do something from the settings or its like that?

Shortly after I began using it, a system message popped up explaining to me that since I often have my laptop plugged in, it would conserve battery life if I let the system change my settings so that the battery didn't fully charge -- this would save battery life over the longterm and I would be free to change the setting whenever I wanted to. Well, this has been the biggest mistake ever. I now essentially have a desktop because I cannot find any setting that allows me to change the battery to fully charge (it only charges to 40 or 50%). There isn't any mention of this feature in the user guide materials that I can find and none of the Power Options allow me to change the battery charge capacity.

Nov 14, 2013just received my new E531 Edge Thinkpad from Lenovo.
Right now I'm not able to boot from CD, it will always boot into the preinstalled Windows 8.
I've tried the F12 method to select a different boot device during startup where I can see the installed DVD RAM drive and select it, but no effect it returns immediately to the select screen.
I've played around with the various BIOS setting disabling the secure boot option and changing the boot order so that the DVD drive is first. Then the system will check for the the CD (you can hear it spinning during start up) but will start into Windows 8 right afterwards again.
I checked with various bootable CDs as well as DVDs but always same effect.
What am I missing? Any other BIOS or Windows 8 settings I need to change for that.
I have other Lenovo notebooks running like the X230, the T520 or an older T61 where booting from CD never seems to be an issue.
As the DVD drive is working correctly within Windows 8 I assume that it is in general functioning and shouldn't be broken.

Dec 10, 2014Today I received my brand-new E540 from Amazon. Upon inserting the battery and starting the laptop for the very first time, I was greeted by the following error message:
The battery installed is not supported by this system and will not charge.
Please replace the battery with the correct Lenovo battery for this system.
Press the ESC key to continue.
The message has only appeared once and hasn't been shown on subsequent reboots.
I proceeded to install Windows 7 which worked fine. Under Windows the battery symbol in the taskbar would say "66%. Plugged in. Not charging". I then shutdown the system and re-inserted the battery. Since then the battery appears to be charging normally and when I inspect the battery symbol in Windows it says something like "89% charged. Plugged in. Charging."
Seeing how this is a brand-new laptop, do you think the battery is broken and I should return the laptop, or should I keep it since it seems to be working normally now.
Lenovo X1 Series ThinkPad :: Carbon Will Not Charge
Aug 27, 2013My X1 is about 18 months old. It was fine until today. The battery was low, so I plugged it in. The little blue light where the power connects illuminated, however the battery indicater in Windows did not change to show "charging", and the battery continued to drain.
Over the next hour or so I tried many things like shutting down, waiting, new A/C outlet, new power settings, etc. Tried the little reset hole on the bottom of the laptop. Nothing mattered... the little blue light is on, but the battery just drains.
Eventually, the battery drained and the X1 shut down. When I try to boot, I get a pre-boot message about a critical low power error, even plugged in, so my laptop is now a brick.This is a 3448-34U Thinkpad Carbon X1.

Aug 13, 2012ThinkPad Edge, Win 7 Sp1. For the last month I have had a problem with the control key always down. Programs react as if the control key were pressed. MS Word 7 gives an error message that the control key is down and asks if I want to go to Safe Mode. I have had the keyboard replaced with no change. The computer has been thoroughly checked, all drivers, patches, software upgrades have been made by my Tech, and the Bios has been flashed.
Last week, I found a post on Google for Win XP where the poster had the same problems. The fix was to ensure that the Sticky Keys were turned off in Ease of Access on the Control Panel. I went to Ease of Access and turned off all of the selections, and the fix seemed to work. However, yesterday the problem reoccurred. I don't know if it is a problem with the motherboard, hardware, or with Windows. It appears that this problem affects more than one version of Windows.

1. When I plug charger in to my SL510 lights don't turn on. If battery are take out - laptop is impossible to turn on;
2. If I plug same charger to my second (old r60 thinkpad - lights is turning on and all boots normally);
3. I take charge from my second laptop and test on SL510 - lights still not turning on;
4. If I try to boot without charger (on battery) laptop is working fine.
Is it possible that - when my battery be empty I can never turn on my laptop?
Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: W540 Won't Charge While Running
Nov 18, 2014My W540 recently became unable to charge while the laptop is running. When the laptop is off, the battery will charge completely. As soon as Windows (or Linux) boots, the charge terminates and the computer starts running off battery power. The computer will boot without the battery installed, but the computer turns off as soon as either operating system is booted (a few seconds after the desktop appears).
I have tried a different power adapter without success (both adapters are Lenovo 170W supplies) and also put a different battery in (also genunie Lenovo battery) but the issue still remained.
The laptop is still under warranty, could it be the charging circuit on the motherboard? Will I have to ship the laptop back to Lenovo for repair? I am out at sea and might have to wait a while to get back into port to be able to ship the unit back to Lenovo, so I would like to investigate other options.

Jun 1, 2014I just received my new E545 and booted it up. I've noticed the CPU is quite hot and so ran some software tests. It is showing the CPU temp around 92 degree C / 196 degrees F.
The chip is an AMD A10-5750M. I take it the heat isn't normal. Should I be sending this back to warranty?

Sometimes the touchpad will work and sometimes it will not respond. When I restart the computer, it will work but not for long. I have the up-to-date drivers which came with the machine. I just received my machine 2 days ago.

Oct 5, 2014I just purchased the E540. Running Win 7.1. I have 2 WD 3.0 Passport drives plugged into a USB 3.0 hub. The 3.0 hub has the correct cable for 3.0. They are not being recognized as 3.0 devices (I get a message). I updated the USB 3.0 driver on lenovo's site and BIOS is set to auto.recognize. I have also tried the 3.0 option in the BIOS but that didn't do anything. I also tried using the drives without the hub in one of the 3.0 USB slots but that didn't do anything either.
I have checked the forum but what I found was possibly purchasing a 3.0 cable (not necessary - my cable is 3.0 compliant) but that was for a Wn 8 system or updating 3.0 device driver (done). So much for plug and play.

May 11, 2013This laptop shows "no operating system found" when I power up. I ran knoppix which works but I tried pressing F8 to get to the CMD prompt but it doesn't work, I can get into the BIOS, anything I can do in the bios to do either a system restore or run the recovery?

Apr 5, 2011I just reinstalled windows 7 on my edge 13 (cause the system really slowed down), everything's working so far, expect the WLan Device. The network adapter (realtek RTL8168D/Familie-PCI-E-Gigabit-Ethernet-NIC) is properly detected, if i plug in a Lan cable I have got a connection.
I already tried this Lenovo Update tool, it installed some drivers and updates, but still no change. I already tried all Wifi drivers from lenovo homepage without success. Hitting the F9 Button didn't change a thing.

Sep 16, 2009I've had several laptops but I am hating this one and is basically the Fn Keys and F# Key. I am pretty customed to use keys like F4(invoking word magic), F5 (update), Alt+F4 (closing windows)...
So, now I have to press Fn + F4 Keys, Fn + F5 Keys and Fn + Alt + F5 Keys....
So is there a way to continue pressing just F4 F5 and that's it?
Lenovo 11e E/Edge :: Disable Fn Keys - ThinkPad 540E
Jan 11, 2014Just a got a brand new Thinkpad 540-E. So far this CPU runs like a beast(with a new SSD installed). I have one minor issue though...
GOAL:: Make the F1-F12 keys function without having to press Fn first.
So I've tried the three tips I've come across online. Here is what happens:
1. BIOS(ThinkpadSetup): I only get the option to switch the Fn and Ctrl key. There are no option in my BIOS to do anything else with the keyboard/mouse settings.
2. Holding down the Fn key for 30 sec to 1 minute: Nothing happens. I even tried to do a three minute press and hold. I had a blast, but nothing came out of that neither.
3. Entering the keyboard settings in Win 7 manually: So I have no trouble entering the keyboard settings window, but mine looks extremely limited. In fact I see no options to do anything in there besides updating the driver.
