Lenovo 11e E/Edge :: ThinkPad Control Key Always Down

ThinkPad Edge, Win 7 Sp1. For the last month I have had a problem with the control key always down. Programs react as if the control key were pressed. MS Word 7 gives an error message that the control key is down and asks if I want to go to Safe Mode. I have had the keyboard replaced with no change. The computer has been thoroughly checked, all drivers, patches, software upgrades have been made by my Tech, and the Bios has been flashed.
Last week, I found a post on Google for Win XP where the poster had the same problems. The fix was to ensure that the Sticky Keys were turned off in Ease of Access on the Control Panel. I went to Ease of Access and turned off all of the selections, and the fix seemed to work. However, yesterday the problem reoccurred. I don't know if it is a problem with the motherboard, hardware, or with Windows. It appears that this problem affects more than one version of Windows.

I fresh installed Windows 7 and installed all the drivers from Lenovo's website. Still I cannot adjust the brightness. It stays on MAX and drains the battery in 1h30min. All other F hotkeys work but not F7 & F8 for brightness control. Is this a BIOS/Drivers issue?

New just turned on a few hours ago. Brightness control was working before fresh install. Did fresh install to get rid of bloatware.

When I press Fn+F9, Wireless Radios Master Control will appear, but there's only WiFi icon and Bluetooth icon is missing (I installed all latest drivers for my model E520 1143-37G).
I have seen advices to reinstall Hotkey Features Integration Pack but here comes my second problem. This HFIP includes Lenovo Patch Utility 32&64 bit but it's old version (1.2.0.1), newer version is included in Power Manager and ThinkVantage Communication Utility (v1.3.0.9). That;s the thing I don't get at all...

My Edge E40 has no display, I tried
-Hard booting... 60 secs of holding power button without battery or A/c adaper
-Removing the RAM HDD CD and tried booting
-Attaching to my old CRT monitor
NOTHING works
How can one find if it is booting at all since there is no HDD indicator in E40..??

I just received my new E545 and booted it up. I've noticed the CPU is quite hot and so ran some software tests. It is showing the CPU temp around 92 degree C / 196 degrees F.
The chip is an AMD A10-5750M. I take it the heat isn't normal. Should I be sending this back to warranty?

I am experiencing issues with my touchpad on my Thinkpad Edge AMD with 4 GB Ram.
Sometimes the touchpad will work and sometimes it will not respond. When I restart the computer, it will work but not for long. I have the up-to-date drivers which came with the machine. I just received my machine 2 days ago.

I just purchased the E540. Running Win 7.1. I have 2 WD 3.0 Passport drives plugged into a USB 3.0 hub. The 3.0 hub has the correct cable for 3.0. They are not being recognized as 3.0 devices (I get a message). I updated the USB 3.0 driver on lenovo's site and BIOS is set to auto.recognize. I have also tried the 3.0 option in the BIOS but that didn't do anything. I also tried using the drives without the hub in one of the 3.0 USB slots but that didn't do anything either.
I have checked the forum but what I found was possibly purchasing a 3.0 cable (not necessary - my cable is 3.0 compliant) but that was for a Wn 8 system or updating 3.0 device driver (done). So much for plug and play.

This laptop shows "no operating system found" when I power up. I ran knoppix which works but I tried pressing F8 to get to the CMD prompt but it doesn't work, I can get into the BIOS, anything I can do in the bios to do either a system restore or run the recovery?

I just reinstalled windows 7 on my edge 13 (cause the system really slowed down), everything's working so far, expect the WLan Device. The network adapter (realtek RTL8168D/Familie-PCI-E-Gigabit-Ethernet-NIC) is properly detected, if i plug in a Lan cable I have got a connection.
I already tried this Lenovo Update tool, it installed some drivers and updates, but still no change. I already tried all Wifi drivers from lenovo homepage without success. Hitting the F9 Button didn't change a thing.

I've had several laptops but I am hating this one and is basically the Fn Keys and F# Key. I am pretty customed to use keys like F4(invoking word magic), F5 (update), Alt+F4 (closing windows)...
So, now I have to press Fn + F4 Keys, Fn + F5 Keys and Fn + Alt + F5 Keys....
So is there a way to continue pressing just F4 F5 and that's it?

Just a got a brand new Thinkpad 540-E. So far this CPU runs like a beast(with a new SSD installed). I have one minor issue though...
GOAL:: Make the F1-F12 keys function without having to press Fn first.
So I've tried the three tips I've come across online. Here is what happens:
1. BIOS(ThinkpadSetup): I only get the option to switch the Fn and Ctrl key. There are no option in my BIOS to do anything else with the keyboard/mouse settings.
2. Holding down the Fn key for 30 sec to 1 minute: Nothing happens. I even tried to do a three minute press and hold. I had a blast, but nothing came out of that neither.
3. Entering the keyboard settings in Win 7 manually: So I have no trouble entering the keyboard settings window, but mine looks extremely limited. In fact I see no options to do anything in there besides updating the driver.

I am planning to upgrade my RAM on my E420(1141CTO). It already has a 4 Gb on one slot. Couple of questions here.
1. What is the max RAM I can go upto on this E420 (Intel i3 2nd Gen) laptop.
2. As I have 4 GB on one slot can I put one 8Gb RAM (single module) on the other slot.
3. What brand of RAM I can use.
4. On this model can I fix another RAM myself easily or asking it the other way are the slots placed such that I can do it easily by merely oepning a couple of screws or do I have to tear everything apart.
5. Any other special considerations like about clock speed ?

With this laptop, the CPU usage rises significantly whenever the battery is charging. If I'm on running on battery power or it's fully charged, I don't have this problem. The CPU stays at 2-3% while browsing the internet, for example. But browsing the internet while the battery is charging will send the CPU up to 90-100%. It's not just browsing the internet, but any task, such as running Sony Vegas, using Skype, watching a movie, etc.
Again, this only happens while the battery is charging. Everything runs much, much slower. All power management settings are identical whether it be running on battery or charging with the AC adapter, so it's not that. I am also using the 65w power adapter that was supplied with the computer, and the adapter becomes very hot to the touch while charging.

I purchased a Edge E545 that came pre loaded with Win7 Pro 64. I created the Recovery disks for Win7 and used the Win 8 Disks to upgrade the OS. I have created a new NTFS partition on my hard drive and would like to install Win 7 to that partition. I have tried to load the recovery disks to install into that partition but I have not been successful; the boot disk won't even load. I downloaded the Win7 Pro 64 ISO to try and load it into that partition but the computer does not have the COA sticker under the battery like it's supposed to.
I have recovery disks that won't load at restart or cold boot and I have a perfectly good ISO that i don't have a COA to.

I just got a brand new Edge 335 with Windows 8 Pro 64 bit installed. It has 8 GB RAM, and AMD E2-2000 APU. I've had a couple of issues with this. One was that I couldn't turn on Bluetooth in Windows 8 (fixed by installing an older version of Thinkpad Hotkey features software). The other issue which is still unresolved is that of virtualization.
AMD virtualization is enabled in the BIOS. However, Windows 8 as well as the AMD virtualization tool both state it is turned off. I have, after searching these forums and the web, disabled it, cold booted the machine (removing battery), re-enabled it, cold booted again (also removed the battery). However, Windows just doesn't want to accept that it's enabled.
AMD virtualization and DEP were both enabled when I got the laptop from Lenovo. Is there anything else I need to turn on/ off?

I have bought my new E540 some days ago. My keyboard is Norwegian so there is a key called AltGr available which is used as a combinational key similar to shift. when I just press the key related to backslash ( it's '+') it works fine but when I want to type backslash (it's AltGr and '+' together) it does not work.

I have a ThinkPad Edge 15. It had a charging problem from the day I purchased it. The people I bought it from sent it back to IBM/Lenovo who apparently tightened the area where the charging cord goes into the PC?
That did NOT fix the issue, so when I got my laptop back, I called LEnovo, they sent me a new battery (even though I told them the 'Power Manager' said the battery was in good condition) which did nothing. Then they sent me a new charging cord, again-nada. They sent me a box to send the laptop back to them. As I was figuring out how to put the laptop in the box, I looked over @ my PC, and lo and behold; the light that tells you if it is charging was shining!
Last night. I looked @ the charging icon; '15%, not charging'! Oops! Oh dear, not again! Went to power manager, everything is just fine. Checked all of my connections, same thing. I left the laptop plugged in. This morning as I look over @ the laptop & Guess WHAT! It was charging, the light was on! I turned it on...

After i uninstalled Lenovo's Access Connection SW my WIFI does not work anymore.
1. My laptop does not see any WIF newtork (even though available)
2. In the mobility center there is no WIFI option (to switch on/of)

5. using the FN F9 key, i have the information that WIFI is on
6. wifi is enabled in BIOS
7. in the Network connections. WIFI adapter shows enabled and on properties says that is working properly

My touchpad is supersensitive and if I get anywhere near it I find I have selected text or opened a link or done some other activity that I didn't want to do.A previous thread said that the sensitivity could be adjusted via the Control Panel. Well, I have it at its lowest, and it doesn't seem to act any differently. I do not want to disable the touchpad, just make it act normally.

I just got my X1 Carbon with touch screen preinstalled with WIndows 8.1.
Wonderful machine, but I hate Windows 8. I can say a lot about that, but let's just state tha fact that I'm not compatible with Windows 8.
Can I install Windows 7 intead? If so, how? Since there's no DVD drive in the system.
And if I install Windows 7, will I lose touch funtionality? WIll I lose other things? (apart from things in Windows 8 of course)

I got an Edge 13 with Windows Ultimate installed. I want to replace the existing disk with a SSD and I collect the windows key for the installation with jelly bean keyfinder.
The problem ist that windows does not recognize this key to activate windows. I also did not find the key on the notebook.
The key itself is valid because on the old disk Windows is activated....

I've got a brandnew Thinkpad E530 with Windows 8 and integrated Camera. But the Camera is not wotking. When I start the Camera-App, the green Light of the Camera starts to shine, but there is no preview. Theres is only a picture of a crossed camera. Also if i start skype, my skype-partner can't see me.
I already had a look in the BIOS if the Camera is enabled (it is) and reinstalled the driver of the camera.

My laptop freezes for a couple of seconds randomly from time to time. The problem sounds like this one: [URL] .....But CC cleaner did not solve the issue.
The problem happens with almost every program such as microsoft word e.g. if I type and it freezes, the words will come out after it unfreeze.
Before the freeze, the laptop usually becomes very quiet then a few seconds later something spins and freezes the computer. I can assume that it is the HDD. However, the computer does not freeze every time the hard disk spins loudly.
When the disk spins loudly, the HDD activity spikes in task manager and the 'system' is the program that corresponds to the spike which is 'ntoskrnl'. However, the data transfer is no more that 0.1 MB/s during the spike.
I tried running in safe mode and I'm not very sure if it worked. The disk spins loudly much less often but the freeze did not seem to happen. Safe mode either tells me that it is a program/connecting to the internet/(maybe the system) that makes this freeze.
I tried a hard disk scan using lenovo solution centre and it found no problems. Also tried antivirus scan using windows defender and found nothing after a full scan.
Finally specifications:
OS: Windows 8
HDD: 1TB (upgraded from 750GB)
RAM: 8GB (upgraded from 4GB)
intel Core i5 3210M @2.5GHz 2.5GHz
Bios: v2.52
