I have a sony laptop vgn-s260 and the problem i have is that each time that I try to turn on the wireless card, the laptop restart and the only way to maintain the laptop working is turning the wireless card off.

I have a Dell Vostro 1500, and I recently re-installed Windows Vista on it. I installed the drivers from the Dell CD that came with my laptop, along with the utilities.
But my wireless won't work, it says the driver isn't installed =[ But I installed all the drivers that CD told me to.
These are the utilities I installed:
Dell OS Tolls Rev:A00
Dell Notebook System Software Rev:A00 .....
I'm having major problems with my laptop. Will try and tell you as much as possible.
I have an HP Pavilion DV2700 (DV2799ea) that is about a year old. It has built-in bluetooth which can be quite tempremental. A week ago I searched the net for a way to get my bluetooth working properly and decided to download the latest version of bluetooth for my laptop from the HP website. I then restarted my laptop, like it said. The bluetooth worked perfectly. My internet connection, however, wouldn't work.
I tried going into the very beginning of the laptop and rolling the computer back to a few hours before I installed the new bluetooth in the hope that the bluetooth would be gone but my internet would be back (as I would rather obviously have internet than bluetooth). This did not work.
I also started the laptop in safe mode, but this made no difference.
I also tried diagnosing the problem, finding a new IP address, restarting the laptop again, changing router numbers etc.
I also tried disconnecting the bluetooth, but this didn't make any difference.
I also tried completely removing the wireless connection and then reconnecting it all, this also did not work...................
I have been dealing with this for a while now, and it just happened out of no where. I turned on my computer one morning and it wouldnt allow me to connect to my wifi. I have tried EVERYTHING. My computer does allow me to connect an ethernet cord to it and the router and use the internet that way. I know it's not the router because I use the internet on my iPhone and tablet. When I attempt to connect to internet it has a red X where the wireless icon used to be, now the icon looks like a computer screen instead the the little bars. When I tap my wireless button on my key pad a message comes up and notifies me that i just turned my wireless connection off, but no matter if it's off or on that little button always has the orange light on. I can't figure out whats going on

I have typed in my security key, yet it is still saying that it cannot connect to that network. I have been on the phone with my ISP and they cannot see why it does not connect. Usually, in these cases, I would hard-cable it to the router, but the laptop does not have an appropriate connection port. Obviously, being new, it is Win 8.1 ..........
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Pavilion g7-1205ev laptop with Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium. I bought a new hard drive so I had to install Windows again. After the installation the laptop can't connect to the internet either by wifi either by Ethernet. After trying troubleshooting it says that windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter.
At the device Manager I can see that there is an exclamation mark to these exact components:
Standard VGA Graphics Adapter
BCM20702AO
Ethernet Controller
Network Controller
PCI Device
PCI Simple Communications Controller
SM Bus Controller
Can I download all these from somewhere ? And of course I will download them to another PC as my laptop doesn't go online at all. I also tried to run Ubuntu from a flash drive on my laptop and the Ubuntu uses the Internet just fine.
I have a vgn260 that I got almost 5 years ago. I've been told that this is ancient for a Sony laptop and that I should just get a new one, but when my computer is working it does everything I need it to and is still very portable by today's standards. I had to replace the original hard drive a couple years back which I was able to do by myself, and I elected to install ubuntu instead of windows since I don't use the computer for anything beyond internet access.
The problem that my computer has developed is that a majority of the time it won't boot up. I'll press the power button, the lights near the wifi switch will come on, but the screen will remain dead and I hear no hard disk turning or other sounds of the machine "thinking." At this point my course of action is to power the computer down, shake it lightly, and try again. This tactic always works.
I have come to the conclusion that something is likely loose within the computer, although I don't hear anything when I shake it. I've opened it up twice looking for something that jumps out at me, but to no avail. I've also heard very bad things about Sony's customer support, so I'm hesitant to send it to them because A) they might not get it right, B) they will overcharge me, and C) the computer is worth less than a fresh version of microsoft office.
I have a Sony Z11, and sometimes my job takes me far away from Wi-Fi coverage, however my 3G iphone does get 3G reception.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a Sony VGN-S260 laptop. I got it fixed and installed a Western Digital 250GB Scorpio Blue EIDE hard drive. I updated to the latest bios available and also installed WINXP SP3. The HDD is only detected as 137GB on the bios and 128GB roughly on windows. I heard that WINXP SP1 and above supported 48-bit LBA and I did not see an option to add partitions to utilize all space on my HDD. I also tried PM 8.0 and it did not see the extra space. I am in a bind and would like to use my space on the hard drive.

The wireless connection is never actually dropped. When I have it hooked up with ethernet, it works perfectly fine with no issues

He is in the hospital at the moment, and I'm wondering what kind of card/fob etc., if anything, is available to allow him to have wireless access (like 3G) to internet?
The hospital doesn't have any wireless available, nor do there appear to be any 'hotspots' accessable from the hospital, so looking for what I'd need to access a local internet service etc?
It's been some time since I've sought assistance here, and I've returned now that my mother has purchased for herself a Dell Inspiron 1564. Being a typical technology-impaired elder, she asked me to set up her system for her. Specifically, she wants me to connect her to our internet. However, I can't for the life of me figure this out.
My router is set on WPA security, but I was able to connect to it without a problem when I purchased my current system - input a password and go. When I try to connect it on her system, it bypasses the password prompt and simply states that it cannot connect. As I try to figure out the problem, I am met with several warnings along the lines of "connect a cable" or "connect a network adapter."

It says no for wireless. So does it mean that this laptop cannot hook up to a wireless network and must be plugged directly into with an ethernet cable from my router?
I got an Aspire 1360...has worked great since the last month. The wireless has been having a mind of its own. All of my other wireless computers are working and theres no router conflict. I can stand right beside the router and there will be no connection. I took out the wireless card underneath and put it back in hoping that it would do something to make it work...but sure enough its going all wacko. Sometimes it'll stay at 54/sec or it'll go down to 24, back up to 36 and then to 1mbps all within a matter of like 3 seconds...
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been having this problem for a long time now and a friend pointed me here to beg for some advice. My internet connection works fine for general browsing purposes and i have a good quality of signal strength where i usually use it.
The problem is, every time i run a game such as Football Manager or World of Warcraft my internet connection will be lost. This can happen as soon as 5 minuites after starting the game or can take up to an hour, but without fail it will happen. After this disconnection my wireless adaptor is still shown as being turned on however i am unable to detect any networks in range. The problem is not solved by turning the adaptor on and off and i am forced to restart the system.
I'm not sure what the cause of the problem might be, CPU and memory usage looks normal. I was wondering if perhaps overheating could cause issues like this? My laptop is generally quite warm but with the graphics card coming into play as well... I tested the internet connection whilst connected to world of warcraft but keeping the game minimised and i was not disconnected. I also installed Speedfan to monitor my core temperature and it measures at 55C idle, but after one minuite of switching to and playing the game this rose to around 75C. Not sure if i should include anything else sorry if i overloaded this a little but not very good with computers so wasn't sure what info i should include.

I installed Elementary OS on my notebook the other day. I can't connect to the internet via wireless.The problem persisted on Debian and OpenSUSE. Also, I've seen that HP provides drivers for SUSE, but I can't install them on OpenSUSE.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an XPS M1710 and it has the 3945ABG wireless card. Just today I upgraded my internet speed to 15Mb down. When I go to www.speedtest.net I get a result of 5Mb down.
I have tried the same test on one other laptop (not a Dell) and another desktop. None of the components involved are capable of 802.11N so I know its not that. The wireless router being used it Linksys WRT54G.
One more note, when I connect the router, or modem up directly to my NIC I will get the fill 15Mb.
i got an Extensa 4420, and after hearing everyone say vista is out, I installed XP.
Im new to PC's [been a mac user for years] and this is confusing me.
The laptop has 2 partitions - C: and D:
Vista is on C: so i installed xp on D:
It appears that i can now only access XP and cannot ever boot into vista off C: is that true?
Also, when running XP i have no internet via the ethernet cable nor the wireless card that comes with this laptop. Can someone explain what drivers i need to install to make those work?
I got the Extensa_4200 driver folder off the website, but i am clueless as to which need to be installed - as im new to PC.
Any advice is much appreciated.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Notebook hp430 with Windows 7 64 bit ultimate. After having some sort of driver/virus that was freezing my computer, again i reinstalled my laptop with windows 7 64 bit ultimate .
Now it can't connect to the internet through wireless. I've tried all the basics: pressing the WIFI enable/disable toggle key on my keyboard, restarting my computer, enabling disabling the internet connection in the network area, etc.
Under Device Manager I see 4 devices related to the wireless internet:
1. Other devices >1> Network Controller
2>pci device
3> pci simple communications controller
4> Sm bus controller
- all the above devices have yellow warning sign next to it - the error is for having no drivers installed.
What should I do? How can I get my wireless internet to work again?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI contacted HP support yesterday because my HP Spectre 13 Pro notebook has a lot of difficulty getting wireless internet access. Sometimes it works well, sometimes it works then drops out; and it is never able to connect using my iPhone as a hotspot for more than 10 seconds.
HP support person instructed me to install 2 updates. Now my laptop is completely not working!! It says "Boot Device Not Found". I have to wait for a technician to completely replace the hard drive, then wait a week for a USB plugin to load up a new system.

I have one problem though, when I try to connect to my home network, it says im connected but I can't go on the internet or sign into msn anything related to connecting to the internet i cant do. I disconnect and reconnect and it only sometimes work. This also happens when I close the lid~put the computer to sleep and i turn in bk on again, it connects to my home network by itself but still I can't go on the internet.

Recently I've been having issues where the wireless internet will drop without warning. I've already established that the problem is not with my router or ISP, so I can only assume that there is an issue with my wireless adapter, either hardware- or software-related. I can usually connect to my home internet with no problems. However, as I've stated, the internet has been dropping unexpectedly on my computer when it can be demonstrated to be working fine on other computers and internet-connected devices in my home. Now, the thing is, running the troubleshooter and having it reset my wireless adapter usually does the trick. Unfortunately, it's often a temporary solution, as the connection will usually drop right back out after a few minutes. I've attempted to manually update my drivers, but that seems to have been fruitless. Also, the rate at which it drops seems completely random. Sometimes I'll reset my adapter and it'll work for the next six hours, and sometimes I'll reset it and it'll drop within thirty seconds.
