One day I came home and opened my laptop to see a black screen with a blue bar and white font saying Harddisk Security SAT Port 0 Hitachi HTS723232A7ALock. I don't know what to do, nobody put a password on it, and the manual doesn't give a password.
View 4 RepliesBack before Xmas, I had to reinstall the os so at the same time I changed the password for the hard disk that is set in the bios, before installing the os.
Problem is after the OS had installed and said it was shutting down to reboot, it never shut down properly so after 5-10mins I pushed the power button to force it to shut down.
Switched it back on, typed in the new hard disk password and it wouldnt accept it. Tried again but no success so tried the old hard disk password but even that didnt work. Anyway I've locked the hard disk now, not updated the bios or anything but wondered if there is anything I can do or Dell can do to unlock it?
Its an E6400 with the finger print scanner (can post the tag number) , I know its old laptop but still got all the receipts and everything to prove its not nicked and owned by the original owner.
In admin mode my hard-drive password is locked. My Acer is an eBay refurb w/ out warranty. What are my "free" options?

I know this laptop is quite different and that even removing the cmos battery for like a day is not going to help. There is no 24xxx chip that I can short on the mobo.
Then I found SST39VF040 bios chip on the back of the mobo and also found a 93lc86 bios chip too .....
can i make the partition for hard disk without formatting the disk . Laptop model is dell Inspiron N5110.

When I purchased it, I opted (among other reasons) for Windows 8 Professional because it comes with BitLocker. I then discovered that some ThinkPads have hard drives that support hardware encryption (FDE).

I've tried to figure out whether mine has this feature, but haven't had any luck. The BIOS gives me the option to set a hard drive password, but I'm not positive that it actually encrypts the hard drive with this setting.

If I get a Studio 17, will I be able to fit this hard disk into the second bay in there? As far as I'm aware the disk itself should be okay, but the caddy might be slightly different for that model - is that right? If so I'll just buy a new caddy or modify this one - otherwise I'll be £100 down for this hard disk!

Dell Inspiron 15Z model 5523 laptop less than 2 years old. Locked up during a Windows update. Refreshed it and lost all my programs. Downloaded Firefox accidentally from a bad site and it was bundled with malware. So I refreshed the laptop again. Had everything working and then later that day it just quit. Locked up and when I rebooted, it said no hard drive could be found. I have a new hard drive, but how do I get my Windows 8 (paid for with the computer) and a boot disk from Dell?

1) Dell Utility 41 MB FAT
2) OS 5.4 GB FAT
3) 310 GB ext 4
4) Extended 4.2 GB
5) 4.2 GB Swap ...
There is only one partition which is useful to me with a storage of 310 GB. But, I want 4 useful partitions. I don't need any recovery partition etc.
My friend was given an E1705 (electronics pallet) that has BIOS p/w locked. It has an MX25L8005 bios chip. Can the password be read using an eeprom reader?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI am replacing the installed Seagate Momentus 160 gb 5400 SATA disk with a Seagate Momentus 320gb 7200rpm SATA hard disk as I need the extra space to hold my growing itunes collection and feel the extra speed would also be welcome.
I have the original Dell installation disks (Operating System, drivers etc), the installation disks for the subsequently installed software (other than the freebies including iTunes etc available on the net) and have backed up all my critical data to an external hard drive using the vista backup facility for subsequent restoration once all the software has been installed.
I will of course keep the 160 gb drive available with all it's data intact as a secondary safeguard until I have satisfactorily completed the installation and testing of the new disk.
internal hard drive disk not found; no bootable devices; start up repair finds no solution..... I have reseated the hard drive several times. the computer runs extremely slow. Dell Data Safe had recommended replacing the hard drive ''couple of months" ago.

Â I removed the hard disk drive from our old Inspiron 6000, installed it in an enclosure, and hooked it to the new laptop to be able to access the document files. Â (The hdd from the old computer is a Western Digital 250 GB and was newly installed six months ago).
When I plug in the enclosure, the power light comes on and it shows up on the new laptop as local disk E. If I had used a new/different password when I set this up, I would have written it down and I can't find anything in the file that would suggest I didn't use my normal PC password.
