Sep 30, 2013I'm trying to fix my neighbours computer, it's a Pavilion dm3 and somehow she managed to completly lock the system. When it boots it just asks for the administrator password and will not continue to boot, not even bios menu is available.
I've read some other posts on this forum that the way to unlock it is to post the "halt code" given when 3 passwords have failed, in my case that code is: 51019908
Also, how does one even end up in this state, I've never seen this kind of lockdown before?

Jan 27, 2014set a BIOS password on my HP DV8 1250 ea laptop a couple of years ago and now I cant remember what I set it too.
I want to install a fresh copy of windows 7, but cant as I locked down the BIOS and so cant boot from CD.
IF I enter tha password wrong 3 times I get the message "System Disable 5xxxxxx1"

Aug 4, 2009Everytime I boot up the laptop, I get halted with the blue box asking me for the bios password.
I know this laptop is quite different and that even removing the cmos battery for like a day is not going to help. There is no 24xxx chip that I can short on the mobo.
Then I found SST39VF040 bios chip on the back of the mobo and also found a 93lc86 bios chip too .....

Jan 4, 2013I was formatting dell inspiron N5050, first we created recovery disks, I tried to do a system recovery first off the partition, after which I was recieveing a BSOD, so I used the recovery disk we created to do the system recovery again this time there was no BSOD however after it said it was setting up windows for first use, it brought me to a log in screen with no user name, asking for a user name and password. It will not accept any of my friends old user names and passwords, I am unable to log into the administrator, and I am unable to log into safe mode cause it needs to set up windows 7 for the first use. Feb 17, 2010Got a new Envy 15t and spent a couple of hours with it and then left town and had a big project and when I came back 3 weeks later and powered up, the password I always use didn't work.
If I had used a new/different password when I set this up, I would have written it down and I can't find anything in the file that would suggest I didn't use my normal PC password.
Is it possible that I never reset the password? If so, is there a standard password that the laptop is shipped with?

Dec 9, 2013Recently I purchased a Dell Latitude D830 motherboard as a replacement for the damaged one in my own system.
The seller didn't tell me that the system has a customized bios and a password, instead he announced it as 'password free'. The board is working and I can enter the BIOS but all settings are locked with a password.
As the seller refuses to take it back, I need to reset the system. The first owner of the board is known and I have the service tag ready. Is there any chance to reflash an original DELL BIOS and to reset the password(s)?
