I purchased a Latitude D505 from a police auction and the BIOS setup is locked by password. It will not allow me change setups, such as system time.
Under system security it shows Primary Password unabled, Admin Password Enabled, Configure Setup Disabled and Configure Password enabled.
I need to clear these in order to setup new HDD and operating system.

Recently I purchased a Dell Latitude D830 motherboard as a replacement for the damaged one in my own system.
The seller didn't tell me that the system has a customized bios and a password, instead he announced it as 'password free'. The board is working and I can enter the BIOS but all settings are locked with a password.
As the seller refuses to take it back, I need to reset the system. The first owner of the board is known and I have the service tag ready. Is there any chance to reflash an original DELL BIOS and to reset the password(s)?
My friend was given an E1705 (electronics pallet) that has BIOS p/w locked. It has an MX25L8005 bios chip. Can the password be read using an eeprom reader?

I know this laptop is quite different and that even removing the cmos battery for like a day is not going to help. There is no 24xxx chip that I can short on the mobo.

View 9 Replies View RelatedBack before Xmas, I had to reinstall the os so at the same time I changed the password for the hard disk that is set in the bios, before installing the os.
Problem is after the OS had installed and said it was shutting down to reboot, it never shut down properly so after 5-10mins I pushed the power button to force it to shut down.
Switched it back on, typed in the new hard disk password and it wouldnt accept it. Tried again but no success so tried the old hard disk password but even that didnt work. PST revealed no problems, also no virus on system from scanning.Verified that it is either the keyboard or the port on the mother board, as removal of keyboard prevents the beeps and activation of letter g.External keyboard working well with no problems. how to check whether the problem is the keyboard or the motherboard's port, as I want to purchase a replacement. Would a latitude D820 keyboard have the same pin arrangements to test the mother board's port?
I Recently purchased an Acer Aspire One D257 - 13473 with mfg. date 2011/07/04 pre-owned at a garage sale. it had a dead hard drive when i purchased it, which was not a huge issue, and i replaced it.
then i was severely disappointed.
I went to try and configure this computer for my own use, but turns out there's (what im assuming to be a BIOS password, since the HDD has been replaced) a password to access the F2 SETUP Menu on this machine. i was really hoping that since I've already upgraded the RAM and replaced the hard drive that i could get this machine actually functionable again.

I bought aDell Latitude E6410 laptop yesterday and every time it turns on it says no boot or something. So I push the enter button and it resets. Then when it shows the dell logo again I press F12 and go to the boot sequence and its set on cd drive and not the internal HDD. So I choose to redo that all over again and then press boot from internal HDD and it works no problem but its a lot to go through just to start a laptop. How can I figure out how to change the admin password so I can set the boot sequence right.

I am locked out of my BIOS but manage to use the laptop using finger print. I forgot my password and with that problem I am not able to modify anything inside the BIOS. I am afraid to do a reset because I might lose the A08 upgrade.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI’m testing some E4200s (with SED SSDs and regular SSDs) and have run into a possible bug with the HDD password “bypass” option in the BIOS. The “bypass” option in BIOS allows you to specify if the HDD password needs to be entered during warm boots (restarts), standby, etc. I’ve set it to “disable”, which means that the HDD password must always be entered (even for restarts). However, the E4200 does *not* prompt for the HDD password during warm boots (restarts). It correctly prompts for the HDD password during cold boots and standby/hibernate only. I’ve tried upgrading the BIOS to the latest version (A13 to A20), but that didn’t work.
At this point I think it's a bug in the BIOS. I've tried this with different e4200 laptops and different drives (regular SSDs, and self-encrypting SSDs).

If I had used a new/different password when I set this up, I would have written it down and I can't find anything in the file that would suggest I didn't use my normal PC password.
